Several new followers joined up recently, so you may not be familiar with Dee Dee’s origin story. Long story short, she was on death’s door when we found her. Long story long, read it here. People can still read, right?

My sweet boy has made some excellent progress! He’s gaining his colour back, cleaning himself, jumping up on the bed again and… Actually going to the litter box! Benny, you scared us, but the doctors at @bcahtoronto have helped bring you back to life!

Since I told the tales of my other two kitties, Valkyrie and Loki, I thought it only fair to share my last, but not least, baby’s story of how he came to be mine!
I wanted a tortoiseshell cat and I wanted one badly! Every pet we own is male, even our lizard, and I wanted a fellow female in the house. But, with two cats, a rat, a fish and a lizard my husband said no more pets.
My rat developed a tumor on his lung and we had to say goodbye to him a few months later.
One night my husband walked to the gym instead of driving like he normally did. When he came home, he burst in the door grumbling angrily about something and I looked up and saw…a cat.
He held out the small tabby and said “Sarah, how did this happen?! How did he get out without you knowing?!”
I just stared at him, utterly confused, and then he looked around the room and saw Loki sleeping on the cat tree and he just looks down at the tabby in his hands and goes “Oh…this isn’t Loki, is it?”
The little tabby was just hanging from his arms (my husband still isn’t an expert cat handler), looking around with this really calm and happy expression and I noticed immediately how scrawny the thing was!
I immediately took the cat and gave him some food and water on our front step, wondering how he was so friendly and yet looked like a feral cat. I told my husband he must have been someone’s cat once but he hadn’t had a decent meal in a long time!
It was October and getting chilly outside so I asked if we could keep him in our garage until we could find him a good home.
My husband bought a heat lamp for him and I knew right then…we were going to keep this cat. My husband doesn’t dish out good money unless he’s serious about an animal. He kept telling me “we can’t keep it”. Well, a few days later, Dante, as I christened him, was inside the house with the other two cats and my husband admitted to me “I knew as soon I as brought him inside and showed him a life he didn’t have on the streets that I could never put him back out where he came from.”
And now he is a full-fledged member of our little family :)
