Pagan Festivals: Walpurgisnacht

We’ve covered Beltane, and now I want to cover

Walpurgisnacht.

Walpurgisnacht, known in English as Walpurgis Night, is the German name for the night of the 30th of April. It is the eve of the feast that celebrates Saint Walpurga.

In Germanic folklore, Walpurgisnacht is also known as “Hexennacht” - which literally translates as “witches night” - and is the night that witches gather upon the highest peak in the Harz Mountains in central Germany.

Walpurgisnacht is celebrated throughout Europe (Germany, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, Slovenia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), in locally varying forms.

March 9, 1953

Russia´s boss died a few days ago. Wild rumors tell that he was murdered, but apparently those mysterious doctors who he accused of plotting his murder had nothing to do with his death. I don´t even want to know what happened there…

I was at his funeral, only because I was invited there. I was the only non-communist country there… Russia was sad and confused because of his death. I guess he doesn´t know who will be their next leader.

Comparing the Elissa costumes of Carlotta and Christine in (professional) replica and non-replica versions of Phantom of the Opera

There seems to be three main design philosophies:

  1. Christine should look more or less identical to Carlotta (many replica productions, Czech Republic, Finland)
  2. Christine should somewhat resemble Carlotta (many replica productions, Hungary, Estonia, the Restaged Tour)
  3. Christine should look totally different from Carlotta (2004 movie, Poland, Romania)

I’m really in love with Czech Republic <33 She’s a precious sinnamon roll. And Netherlands dressed like that just demanded a flower crown. Plus Bulgaria… Maybe I should give the stick a flower crown too…

Manifest kõigile Eestimaa rahvastele (Manifesto to All Peoples of Estonia) is the founding act of Republic of Estonia.

The first paragraph translated:

MANIFESTO TO THE PEOPLES OF ESTONIA

In the course of centuries never have the Estonian people lost their desire for independence. From generation to generation have they kept alive the hidden hope that in spite of enslavement and oppression by hostile invaders the time will come to Estonia “when all splinters, at both end, will burst forth into flames” and when “Kalev will come home to bring his children happiness.”

Now that time has arrived.

so there are a lot of you on here from different states and countries, and i’m genuinely curious to know who is from where. bold which applies to you and reblog. it’s super simple and takes little time to do. you never know who could be your neighbor.
