I sometimes have moments of such despair, such despair … Because in those moments I start to think that I will never be capable of beginning to live a real life; because I have already begun to think that I have lost all sense of proportion, all sense of the real and the actual; because, what is more, I have cursed myself; because my nights of fantasy are followed by hideous moments of sobering! And all the time one hears the human crowd swirling and thundering around one in the whirlwind of life, one hears, one sees how people live—that they live in reality, that for them life is not something forbidden, that their lives are not scattered for the winds like dreams or visions but are forever in the process of renewal, forever young, and that no two moments in them are ever the same; while how dreary and monotonous to the point of being vulgar is timorous fantasy, the slave of shadow, of the idea…

Congratulations! It's melancholy to see the end of Bad Machinery, which for someone who started with OG Scary Go Round, really came into its own and into my heart. I would say even taking the top spot. I'm not fully sad though, because I know that you will continue to use these characters, and because I always look forward to what you can cook up. Good luck going forward!

Thanks! I always feel a bit melancholy at the end of a project but it’s a process of renewal,  a bit like a snake shedding its skin. Afterwards, it’s still the same snake.

Frustrated and panicked

I got an email a couple of months ago, telling me my teacher’s license expires in June. I keep meaning to get to it, but I’m busy actually teaching. You know… Doing my job.
And I know, at the outset, that the process of renewing will be complex and irritating. Because.
Well, it’s much, much worse than that.
The website for our DPI is incredibly complicated. Labyrinthine. On one page you may find instructions on how to do something, but no link to the place to actually do it. You might find a checklist, but no explanation what anything on the checklist means.
I’ve been struggling with the system, just trying to figure out what I need to do, for the last three hours.

It’s my fault, I’m aware, that I haven’t done a damn thing with my PDP (professional development plan) for the last four years. But, in my defense I HAVE been working very hard at actually teaching. And it’s not like there are any checks in place to make sure things happen.

At this point I can’t even get into the correct places to look at my existing PDP, much less to update and submit it. Frankly, I don’t even fucking remember what I wrote five years ago.

I don’t know if I’ll manage it. I don’t know what happens if I don’t.

The Proposal Movie AU where Alexander is one of the top lawyers at the famous Washington Firm and always gets chosen over Jefferson and has a secretary who's trying to climb the ranks from the very bottom (I don't know how it works tbh just following the movie) named Eliza who he is very mean to. Anyways Alex is in the country on a work visa and while it was going through the renewal process he left the country for work (going against Washington's warning) which causes him to be deported

(2) So because Alex is going to be deported he can’t work for the firm anymore he’s going to be replaced by Jefferson so in a desperate attempt he makes Eliza marry him so he can stay. But like they hate each other so she says no but Alex explains to her that if HE leaves Jefferson will fire her and Eliza can’t let that happen her family thought her moving to New York was enough of a bad idea because they thought that she wouldn’t be able to handle it and not to mention all those late nights
(3) Late nights with Hamilton having gone to waste because Jefferson would want to get rid of everything even remotely Hamilton related. So she agrees but the case work doesn’t believe their story and explains if it’s all a lie then Eliza would go to jail for 50 years and holy shit she can’t go to jail. But their meeting is postponed because Eliza was going to go celebrate her sister’s birthday that weekend up in Alaska. And holy shit Alaska?!? Hamilton wasn’t expecting that. So when they get there
(4) Alex learns Eliza is the middle child and that whole her life she’s been working as hard as she could because she’s had to compete with her older sister who’s the governor of Alaska and totally up in that Women’s rights movement and her pretty and talented little sister who’s a fashion designer on the rise. And that he family didn’t believe that she would have made it out on her own. So that’s why Eliza didn’t speak about them much. And Eliza learns that Alex has been an orphan since he was 12
(5) And over all they just learn about each other and become friends and they secretly fall in love with each other so ultimately means that Alex can’t go through with the deal tells Eliza’s whole family and the case work and goes back to New York to get his stuff so he can go back to Puerto Rico (idk i really like Puerto Rican Alex) and Eliza has to run after him to stop him and tell him that she loves him.

AWW That’s a sweet Au, thank you for sharing ;w;

5 Tips To Clear Skin

As we go through puberty, sadly, every single one of us has to or has had to deal with the odd pimple, they can come at the most unexpected and worst time and unfortunately they can be quite noticeable and painful. These are a few tips to help reduce pimples and to keep your skin healthy and glowing:

Tip #1 Maintain whole body hydration.

The human body is 70% water- we need to maintain our hydration to ensure our body functions the way it should; this is how our cells remain nourished, our organs work properly and our bodily tissues (SKIN) keep moist and smooth.

  • You should aim to drink 1.5- 2L of water everyday
  • You can flavour your water with lemon, lime or mint to make your water extra tasty

Tip #2 Eat a healthy and clean diet.

It’s true.. we are what we eat.

  • Eat well-balanced nutritious food
  • Organic food especially gives the skin what nature intended for us
  • Choose low Glycemic Index (GI) foods!! Try and avoid carbs :(
  • Your skin loves essential fats- Omega 3,6,9 and antioxidants

Super foods packed with antioxidants:

  • Carrots/sweet potato
  • Berries
  • Tomatoes
  • Spinach
  • Brocoli
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Beans
  • Salmon
  • Green tea

Tip #3 Stress less

Under stress

  • Cortisol levels rise (body’s stress hormone)
  • Oil production increases- can lead to oily skin, acne and other skin problems

So…

  • Allow time for adequate sleep and relaxation
  • Exercise as much as possible (even just a 20 minute walk)
  • Meditate

Tip #4 Maintain good basic skin care

Basic three step process:

  1. Cleanse- Cleans the skin
  2. Tone- Hydrates the skin
  3. MoisturiseProtects the skin

Other important steps:

  • Exfoliation- Scrubs/peels removes dead skin and helps the renewal process
  • Eye cream and eye masks
  • Serums/medication for targeted concerns

Tip #5 Ensure your skin is always clean.

  • Wear minimal make up and insure you take it all off before you sleep (facial wipes are easy and quick)
  • Keep your skin always clean; away from dirt and germs. For this keep your hands off your face and ensure your pillow cover is spick and span.

All these tips are essential and fast effecting ways to get your skin to recover and glow!!!

Are you worried about the ratings this season? Theyve been dropping and its making me think season 5 will be our last season....:(

Season 5 will only be the last season if Jason wants it to be the last season. The CW literally doesn’t give a shit about ratings (only accounts for about 5% of their decision-making process when renewing TV shows, apparently) and they always let TV shows finish their stories, even if that means warning them before they start writing a season that it will be the last.

In case you’re worried about closure, or anything …

I have a deep, terrible fear that everyone born with a vagina or XX chromosomes is going to hell. we'd go to hell *because* of those things, because we bleed and the world hates us. I know this is irrational, but it's still one of my deepest fears.

I am so sorry to hear that. I am not sure what happens after death, and I am not going to pretend that I do. However, something tells me that you aren’t going to go to Hell because of your molecular structure. Your soul is not your body.

The menstrual cycle is rough (I know that) however it is not a divine punishment, but rather just a part of living in this world. I oftentimes think of the cycle as a renewal process, the end of a journey and the start of something new. When I bleed I think and pray about the things I can let go. To me, it is a gift of cleansing that comes from my body.

I know my reassurance won’t fix your fears because it probably goes much deeper than what my words can reach, however I am here for you and if you need to talk about this privately please approach me. Peace and Blessings.

What would it take to survive in space? (Part 2)

Prolonged space travel takes a severe toll on the human body. As we seriously consider the human species becoming space-faring, a big question stands. Even if we break free from Earth’s orbit and embark on long-duration journeys among the stars, can we adapt to the extreme environments of space?

Variation in gravitational strength is another challenge for space travelers. Until we develop artificial gravity in a space ship or on another planet, we should assume that astronauts will spend time living in microgravity

On Earth, human bone and muscle custodial cells respond to the stress of gravity’s incessant tugging by renewing old cells in processes known as remodeling and regeneration. But in a microgravity environment like Mars, human bone and muscle cells won’t get these cues, resulting in osteoporosis and muscle atrophy. So, how could we provide an artificial signal for cells to counteract bone and muscle loss?

This is speculative, but biochemically engineered microbes inside our bodies could churn out bone and muscle remodeling signaling factors. Or humans could be genetically engineered to produce more of these signals in the absence of gravity.

Radiation exposure and microgravity are only two of the many challenges we will encounter in the hostile conditions of space. But if we’re ethically prepared to use them, gene editing and microbial engineering are two flexible tools that could be adapted to many scenarios. In the near future, we may decide to further develop and tune these genetic tools for the harsh realities of space living.

It sure seems like Michael Flynn lied to federal investigators about his Russia ties
Embattled ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn is in even more trouble than we thought. On Monday afternoon, Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, published a letter detailing strong evidence that Flynn lied about his contacts with Russia during a 2016 security clearance renewal process — which is a felony. “General Flynn told security clearance investigators that he was paid by ‘US companies’ when he traveled to Moscow in December 2015 to dine at a gala with Russian President Vladimir Putin,” Cummings writes. What about really really horrible cities? Like the old rust belt, Buffalo/Detroit etc? People avoid going those places because they're broken down and full of crime. Wouldn't gentrification help?

by definition gentrification is never a good thing

the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents.

“urban renewal” is a whole different subject but it is so crucial to empower the communities that already exist in the place and provide them a way out of the cyclical poverty instead of just getting rid of them and building a whole new city on top of them

also, before you call Detroit a horrible city, i suggest you read this, and this. you cannot judge the current state of any city (..or anything, really) without examining its history

and honestly the history that destroys things is almost always white people and $$$$

Whats neoliberalism? Its a term I hear a lot,but everyone seems to have a different definition.

Bourgeois ideology and practice that equates “unrestrained market forces” with “freedom”. Reaganism and Thatcherism were veritable examples in the 80s. Basically capitalism with even less of a pretense that it’s beneficial to the working class (whereas Keynesianism and social democratic welfare capitalism operate under that pretense, for instance). The Dictionary of Revolutionary Marxism gives a really good description of it. Source link: http://www.massline.org/Dictionary/NE.htm

“A set of economic and political views and policies used to administer a capitalist state, which is characterized by attacks on (or even the total destruction of) many previous concessions to the working class, such as unemployment insurance, welfare and other social programs, including public education; by further attacks against, and the destruction of, labor unions and whatever little pro-labor legislation may have previously existed; by promoting the lowering of real wages and, especially, benefits for workers such as abolishing retirement plans; by a freer hand granted to corporations to operate as they please and with many fewer (and weaker) regulations, including weakening or eliminating environmental safeguards; by much lower taxes for the rich and for their corporations; by international free trade, again for the benefit of big corporations; and by a general turn back towards the laissez-faire capitalism of the 19th century. More briefly, neoliberalism is the bourgeois dogma that everything should be left to the so-called ‘free market’ to work out all on its own, and that things will always ‘work out for the best’ if unrestrained market forces are given full play. Thus, neoliberalism is a very reactionary trend in modern capitalist rule which is serving to dismantle the welfare state and drive down the working class and the masses.

Neoliberalism became necessary for the bourgeois ruling class as a means of trying to deal with the long developing U.S. and world capitalist economic crisis. The leading capitalist-imperialist countries in the world over the past century made welfare state concessions to their own working classes in order to keep the peace at home while they plundered the rest of the world. However, with the growing overproduction crisis these concessions are no longer 'practical,’ and to keep corporate profits up they must now be rapidly eliminated. Neoliberalism amounts to a policy of trying to take out the very negative effects of the worsening capitalist economic crisis on the backs of the proletariat.

The advent of capitalist-imperialism initially permitted a temporary interruption in the trend toward the immiseration of the proletariat in the advanced capitalist countries, and even allowed for their partial embourgeoisment and the growth of a labor aristocracy. But the slowly developing, but inexorable, world overproduction crisis is forcing the ruling class to reproletarianize the working class and to renew the overall capitalist process of the immiseration of the proletariat and the broad masses—even at home.”
