I’m a new grad nurse who recently had a very volatile patient. This patient claimed she hadn't eaten anything for “5 days," but had only recently become NPO for an endoscopy procedure. She said she was very hungry. While I was listening to her bowel sounds during my assessment she picked up my stethoscope and yelled into it, “IT’S HUNGRYYY!!!” I was completely taken aback and didn't know whether to be angry or laugh out loud. Afterwards, it was determined that she couldn't have the procedure that day for other reasons and she left AMA, after requesting a lunch of 6 chicken nuggets with mayo and green jello.
