Re-enactment groups, collectors, historians and serving soldiers helped photographer Thom Atkinson assemble the components for each shot. ‘It was hard to track down knowledgeable people with the correct equipment,’ he says. ‘The pictures are really the product of their knowledge and experience.’

This week at Draugar Vinlands, our sparring was heavy and intense. Everyone faced off against everyone, and under the warmth of the sun armor was shed so as to not tire everyone out too quickly. All of Draugar Vinlands fought fiercely and with great passion, and all have shown terrific improvement under the guidance of Ælfgifu. After sparring many drinks were shared amongst comrades, and we forged a path through to woods to reclaim the meeting place by the Jarl fire, an area seldom visited in the warmer months but greatly enjoyed nonetheless. It truly has been a wonderful meeting before the coming of the harvest season, and the future only looks brighter for our oncoming winter.
