2002 Château Léoville-Las Cases “Grand Vin de Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases”

This is some special stuff - Léoville Las Cases is a neighbor to the famed Château Latour and by many accounts, deserves to be a Premier Grand Cru Classé as well! Blackberries, cassis, purple potpourri, eucalyptus, leather, and meat with fruit compote on the nose. Definite minerality on the nose as well (even a bit tinny on first opening the bottle). Ripe and rich blackberries, cassis, and perfumed violets on the palate with a hint of cocoa and a lovely finish. Nice acidity and fine tannins. Delicious!

2012 Château Barde-Haut

Nothin’ like a little Saint-Émilion Grand Cru to get you in the holiday spirit. Plums, boysenberries, cherries, cassis, dried strawberries, and chocolate on the nose. Similar on the palate with a smooth mouthfeel and a nice tannin structure. Could use a bit more cellar time for other flavors to reveal themselves.
