reboot! red robin

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but just imagine Damian's face when he realized that his grandfather wanted that imbecile Drake as his apprentice (Pre reboot, in the Red Robin issues)

Always the right place dear anon.

But I think about this a lot. Because, of all the Batkids and every affiliated with Batman, I feel that Tim comes to the closest to being a Batman like Bruce. Tim has that same mentality as Bruce, that same single-minded focus on Justice and getting the bad guy, his health and personal relationships be damned. I think it all cumulated in the first part of Red Robin. Ra’s acted like Tim was just a foolish sidekick on a crazy errand and could be manipulated, but in the end Tim was able to turn the tables and come out on top.

It’s been a while since I read RR, but I do believe Ra’s even gifts Timmy with ‘Detective’ nickname he only uses for Bruce which I feel is very significant. He’s never given that same curtesy to any of the other sidekicks. Because even though Dick may be the Batman in RR, he’s too kind and incorruptible while Jason is unpredictable and not always in control of his emotions. Those aren’t traits Ra’s would seek in an apprentice, no, he wants someone brilliant and in control, who can and will fight viciously, who will bend the rules. Bruce is like that and, as Ra’s finds out, so is Tim. I’d love to see that relationship explored further, y'know, once DC realizes that Timmy is worth more than ‘tech support’

Ahem yes but Damian would not react well. First of all, at the beginning, he would see Tim as Ra’s initially saw him: a sad, sniffling child who is chasing after Batman’s cape for approval which is probably what initially causes Damian to be so antagonistic towards Tim. But as he grows closer to the family and actually watches Tim at work, you see that they are somewhat able to work together as they at least develop respect for the others skills. But I’d like to see, down the road, Damian realizing that Tim is probably closer to Ra’s ideal than Dami himself. I want Ra’s to try and sway Timmy, who just might be tempted, and Damian and the rest being forced to intervene and pull Tim back from the brink. Wow, that would be a great story. Someone shop it to DC, Tim needs a good character arc like yesterday.

you're so sweet omg!!! Ugh I dont want to annoy you with this but I do really like batman and all the robins (I'm completely basing my opinion of the movies and cartoons I've watched lol). I think my favorite robin is Jason. Also, I don't know much about cass or steph because they weren't really mentioned in any of the shows so I'd love to read more into them too. Haha so basically the whole batfamily

Hey, no annoyance at all : ) I love to help fellow superhero fans and I’m honored that you’d ask me!

Well, first and foremost, there’s actually a bit of a split in the comic fandom currently. DC did a relaunch of their entire company line in 2011, and there’s a difference in how they manage their stories and in the histories of all the characters that “survived” to make it to the new universe. So there’s going to be a bit of a difference between  some characters in the “pre-reboot” and “post-reboot”, and in other characters it’s huge. (For example, Tim Drake was Robin in the pre-reboot before becoming Red Robin and he was actually the star of three solo series (one with over 150 issues) where he was Robin; in the current comics he was never Robin and Tim Drake isn’t his real name.)

This is really a problem with Cass and Steph because, even though they were fan favorites, they were erased in the new timeline entirely with the reboot. Steph just recently made it to the pages of Batman Eternal, and I do think of the current published Bat Books that’s one of the best to pick up, but she’s really not the same character either. Particularly her parents are in a much different relationship with her.

Regardless, here is my personal suggested list for the members of the Bat Family as financially effective as possible! (By default I will only list titles available through digital release, because these are definitely available, if they’re collected in a book format I’ll put that with an *asterisk — and if they’re the free downloadables I was talking about earlier they’re FREE)

Uh, hello. I have a question for you. Is Jason Todd a smoker in canon or is it just fanon? I'm confused.

Jason Todd is a smoker in canon.

He was a smoker before Bruce found him, and it was a habit Bruce forced him to break as soon as he became Robin.  We didn’t really see it come up again until much later.

(Batman 408)

In Gotham Knights 43, it’s shown that Jason never really kicked the habit, he just hid it from Bruce.  This is a little questionable, since hiding something as obvious as smoking from Bruce would be extremely difficult, and because Gotham Knights was written more than a decade after Jason died.  But yes, there is a canon basis for it.

(Gotham Knights 43)

We haven’t officially seen Jason smoking again since his return from the grave, but in defense of the “pro-smoking Jason Todd” coalition (of which I am admittedly a part of), we have’t really seen much of Jason outside of his ‘work’ at all since he returned.  There hasn’t been a comic that really got into Jason as a character, showing his day-to-day life outside of being the Red Hood.  Does Jason smoke?  Does Jason drink?  Does Jason have hopes and dreams and aspirations outside of being a pain in Bruce’s ass?  We don’t really know.  He hasn’t been given the time and credit he’s due.  And personally, I think it’s likely that Jason would pick the habit back up, if for no other reason than the fact that it would really piss Bruce off.

So really, you could go either way.  If you wanted to say Jason has quit the habit, there’s no canon basis to disprove you.  If you want to say he still smokes, then I think you have a basis for that too.  Once upon a time I’d hoped for a Red Hood solo title so that Jason could really get fleshed out as his own person in the way he deserves to be, but those hopes and dreams were brutally murdered by Red Hood and the Outlaws and the New 52 reboot.

It’s been WAY TOO LONG since I last drew Tim

Is it terrible of me to forget when was the last time I drew Tim?

*Clutches heart* Senpai, bless your soul. Thank you for making me draw Tim again. XD

ALWAYS. ALWAAAAAYS draw pre-reboot Red Robin Tim ala Marcus To’s run. ALWAYS.

I hope you like this! And once again, THANK YOU.
