Nesta curls up against the chill in the air but even through her clothes she’s freezing. She and Vassa have guard for the moment, mostly because they’re the only two who haven’t been able to fall asleep. She seems to relish the cold, as it’s such a change from the flames that normally rise off her body. Nesta can’t bring herself to feel the same way.
“Do you think they’ll have us split up?” It’s Vassa who breaks the silence first. “Amren and Cassian, I mean?”
They’ve discussed the plan many times, day and night, but this idea has never been a part of it. “Why would we?”
“As much as I hate to say this, I think it might benefit us if I go back to the lake before you all come thundering in to break the curse.”
“How can you want to go back?”
“I don’t. I just know I’ll have to.”
“Is the nymph the only one who can break the curse? He never gave you any terms? No, I don’t know, true love’s kiss?”
