rebellious quotes

dream big, they told us,
as they took control of our minds,
shut all the windows and closed up the blinds.
dream big, they said,
as they pushed us onto paths already paved,
using methods described as depraved.

they told us to dream big,
but those dreams were never our own,
they were the ones of a brain washed society
that made us feel alone.
they said to dream big,
but by dream they meant fit and by big they meant in,
we couldn’t be smart if we weren’t good at maths,
and we couldn’t be pretty unless we were thin.

dream big, they told us,
as they put a box around each of us,
and when we complained told us to not make a fuss.
dream big, they said,
as they pulled us down away from the sun,
and chained our feet if we tried to run.

they told us to dream big,
but laughed at us and shook their heads when we tried,
then they would cut off our wings
and watched us as we struggled to fly.
they said to dream big,
but ‘no that’s impossible, get your head out of the clouds’
they said we were free but ‘no don’t do that’
that we could be ourselves but ‘no that’s not allowed’.

‘dream big’, they never meant what they told us,
they never meant what they said,
it was just a lie so that we thought we had a choice,
so that we thought we had a voice.
It was just another way to keep us silent and glue shut our eyelids,
because they’re scared of the truth getting out,
scared of losing control to a bunch of misfit kids.

Cheng Xiao: Where’s Eunseo?

Dayoung: She said she was feeling sick, so she went to the skate park.

Cheng Xiao: What? Why would she go to the skate park if she’s feeling sick?

Dayoung: I don’t know, but she took a skateboard and Exy’s shades.
