I am just going to post this here once and for all.
The main reason why I love The Amazing Spiderman so much is that ( yes aside from Andrew Garfield), I thought Gwen Stacy’s character was the epitome of the modern woman.
She is in control of her life. She did not depend on Spiderman, she did not need a man to feel happy. She made her own choices, one of which was to break up with Peter Parker because she did not want a relationship that would leave her hanging on to the thought of losing him everyday– not because his job was dangerous, but because he kept wanting to protect her by staying away from her. It was unstable. it was not what she wanted because Peter kept breaking up with her for the same reason over and over. So SHE was the one who broke up with HIM.
Also, Gwen is a career-driven woman. She DECIDED to go to Europe. She DECIDED to pursue her education and her career. She made her own decisions, stood up for herself, even if it meant that she could not be with Peter Parker no matter how much she loved him. But their relationship was too unstable, and she did not want to live a life like that. This, my friends, is why I am in love with this movie. It is okay to be selfish once in a while. It is okay to pursue the things you love even if it meant that you should let go of the people holding you back.
When she DECIDED to stay and help Spiderman fight with Electro, she was in control of her life. She was not the damsel in distress; quite the contrary. She was helping HIM. And I loved that Peter was the one who actually had the intention of FOLLOWING her to Europe, to pursue her because he finally realized that he wanted her and that it was his own choice all along. It just took too much time for him to realize that. :)
Okay, but do you ever cry because Andrew Lincoln puts his all into playing Rick and kills it every time? Or because Danai, with her complete eloquence, can talk about Michonne and who she is in such a beautiful way? Or Melissa, who loves her character so much that she cries just talking about her, and understands every little thing about her?
