“hi, im dylan minnette and i’m auditioning for the role of guy who has to wear a band aid on his forehead for 75% of the show/film.”

Dear Clique,

There is this very specific feeling I got when I first started listening to twenty one pilots.

An understanding of what Tyler went through. A connection with Josh when I found out he struggled with the same anxious feelings as me. A deep stirring in my mind that brought me to think and create.

When I first heard their music, forests sprouted in my mind. Acres of hidden land I didn’t know I had. Stars I hadn’t counted, rivers I hadn’t crossed. But now I think the trees are dying. The stars are silent. The rivers are running dry.

And I see this drought spreading. Suddenly the jungles of minds we possess are worried about other things: where is Tyler? Why isn’t Josh in a relationship? Why didn’t I win tickets? why don’t I have more followers? why are the big accounts more popular? why isn’t everything going according to plan?

We are turning to love the very thing we accused twenty one pilots of gaining in the first place: popularity. Suddenly creating isn’t enough. We want more numbers, more information, more opportunities. More, more, more, more.

And so, our forests are wilting. And I am just another writer among a thousand. Just another teenager with too many words in my brain. But I beg you this: grow your forests. Return to what you first found when you started listening to this band. Strip away the numbers, strip away the fame, strip away the drama, and return to the reason why you came in the first place.

There is something very special in this music, and we cannot lose that.

anonymous asked:

Do you know if we've seen the 'Louis fond nose scrunch' in any of Harry's solo interviews? Asking for science. xx

Now that you mention it…

Well.

I think the closest we’ve gotten is this

I’m shakin my damn head because this simply will not do. I mean, we’ve had his talking about Liam face

But no one except that rude ass radio host has mentioned Louis. Ugh. Every time I think about that interview I’m like

Well that and

Because sometimes I seriously can’t believe that happened. I can believe that someone was that rude and gross but I have for a very long time harboured the theory that based on the things that they have said and done that Louis and Harry had some kind of agreement to never verbally deny their relationship. Every denial has come either from Louis’ twitter or from a print interview with one of the other boys. It seemed logical to me given that aside from

And

After which Harry had to be consoled by Niall

There has never been a, “It’s funny because people think that because we’re really good friends that we’re dating, but actually we just lived together and we’re both very happy with our girlfriends” said out loud.

So when someone said to Harry, “The fans are convinced that ‘Sweet Creature’ is about your relationship with Louis Tomlinson,” he was given the perfect opportunity to say, “Actually we’re not in a relationship,” but instead we basically got

Versus

Him literally screaming, “NO!” when asked if it was about Taylor Swift.

Harry flat out spent about a minute not directly answering whether or not “Sweet Creature” was about Louis and took less than a second to completely deny that it was about Taylor Swift, despite his previous insistence that the songs were completely up to interpretation. I guess they’re up for interpretation as long as you’re interpreting it as definitely being about Louis. Which is probably why his management was like

And did a complete 180 from this

To their Tessperado stunt that exactly no one believed so they had to contrive some one night stand origin story for “Carolina” that could only be described at Dan Wattpad’s laziest creation.

As uncomfortable as that radio interview was to listen to, I think the aftermath proves how massively Harry blew it for the sake of not outright denying that he in in love with Louis William Tomlinson.

When asked why people think “Sweet Creature” is about Louis, Harry might as well have been like

So the fact that Harry can talk about literally every other member of the band except Louis without completely losing his shit is pretty testament to what I’ve thought all along. And the fact that he can openly discuss every other band member’s solo projects except “Just Hold On” is like

So the reason we have not seen Harry’s Fondlinson face is because he is probably under distinct instructions not to talk about Louis.

Also I’ma just say Harry Edward Styles is so aware of the fandom. He KNOWS. That’s why I don’t get why people say he doesn’t care or whatever. He knows that people love and support him as a solo artist and he appreciates it, but he /also/ knows that the only reason people were even here in the first place was because of 1D. He knows what people say about him; that he hates the band, that he’s selfish/ungrateful of where he comes from. And he’s just… Out there playing 1D songs on the Today Show – 1D songs from FOUR NO LESS, which was a masterpiece album, and any 30-50 year old who wasn’t familiar could look it up and see that – to show just the opposite and to simulataneously say that he hears what we’re saying, that he knows what we want, and that he’s NOT erasing 1D from his history just because he’s solo… This was just a genius move for so many reasons and I don’t know who made it but Bravo

Since you mentioned it, Ironhawk college AU where everyone thinks tony and Clint are just friends and Tony has a terrible reputation for being a slut but it turns out he and Clint have been monogamous for YEARS and it's just rumors.

Send all your love and praise to @summerpipedream. They beta read this fic (and did a fantastic job). Without them this fic probably would not have been posted for a few more days, so thank you, summerpipedream. <3

Freshman Year

“So, how would you feel if we stored the XL twin beds and we got bunk beds instead.” Tony, Clint’s new roommate, motioned at said twin beds as he stood in the middle of their dorm room. They had bumped in each other as they had been moving in, and learned that neither one of them had a parent or friend helping them, so they’d spent most of the afternoon bringing in their boxes of stuff and building a fort instead of setting up their room.

Clint was currently rearranging one of the walls of said fort. “I can chip in to pay for bunk beds, but unless you can afford to pay the storage fee, we’re sticking to the twin beds.”

“So bunk beds it is.” Tony clapped his hands together. “You can even take top bunk. I like to stay up late, so if I’m on the bottom bunk you won’t notice the light from my computer as much. I can even put up a sheet.”

“Seriously?” Tony was going to pay for storage and let Clint have top bunk? Either Tony was the best roommate ever, or this was some sort of trap and Tony was going to be the worst roommate ever.

Tony nodded, then gestured to the wall where one of the twin beds was located. “We can put a TV over there. I’ll pay for cable, unless you’re already set up for a streaming service.”

“Dude! Are you for real?”

Tony pinched himself. “I feel real.”

A smile spread across Clint’s face. “I think I’ve just fallen in love with you a little.”

Sophomore Year

“So, you up for it?” Bobbi shouted over the music and drank from her party cup. She nodded at the yellow laminated paper dangling from his neck.

It was the makeout party of the year. Everyone had to wear tags: green, yellow, or red. Red signified no kissing allowed at all, yellow was “ask first,” and green was “go for it.”

Tony and Clint had discussed it. Both had been tempted to wear green, but they had agreed it would be better to wear yellow instead.

Clint considered Bobbi. She was attractive. Very attractive. He really wanted to kiss her, but Tony had made a comment two weeks ago that he thought Bobbi had a crush on Clint. Even if it was a makeout party with no strings attached, Clint didn’t want to risk the fall out.

Besides, he had a suspicion there was a reason why Tony had brought up the crush.

“Sorry. Tempting, but my significant other might not be happy.”

“You have a girlfriend?” Bobbi frowned and cocked her head. “How come I’ve never seen her?”

Clint just smiled.

“Clint!” Tony shouted over the music as he barreled toward Clint. He shoved people aside, only pausing to grab someone wearing a green tag by the face to kiss them loudly and comically, then push them away.

Tony threw himself at Clint, his arms flopping over Clint’s shoulder and around his waist. He kissed Clint messily around his mouth, his lips never quite landing on Clint’s just right. His breath reeked of alcohol. “I love you. This party is awesome. You’re awesome. So glad we agreed to this.”

Finally, Tony’s lips found Clint’s and he shoved his tongue into Clint’s mouth.

Clint sputtered and pushed Tony’s face away. He laughed when Tony pouted at him. “You were using your tongue like my mouth was the bottom of a Nutella jar with the last bit of chocolate inside.”

“Hey, Tony,” Bobbi started hesitantly, “Clint is wearing yellow.” She pointed to Clint’s tag for Tony.

Tony scrunched his face, his alcohol addled brain not comprehending. “I think you’re missing something, Bobbi.”

Clint waved away Bobbi’s concern. “It’s okay, Tony can kiss me whenever he wants, as long as I’m not mad at him.”

Tony grinned. “Isn’t he great?” Tony asked Bobbi.

Bobbi gave them an odd look. Like she didn’t know quite what to make of them. “Yeah.”

Junior Year

“Looks like Tony’s made a new friend.” Sam chuckled as he elbowed Clint in the side.

Clint looked up from his stir fry bowl.

Tony was chatting with Helen Cho from his Cellular and Molecular Biology class outside of the checkout line for cafeteria food. The two were laughing. Helena hugged her tray in one arm then reached into her pocket with the other. She pulled out a pen. Tony offered his arm for her to write on.

“Damn.” Sam smirked at Bucky across the table. “Tony may have more game than you.”

“Doesn’t change the fact that you’re still single.” Bucky snatched a fry off of Sam’s plate.

“Quality, Bucky. That’s what I’m looking for.”

“Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun while looking.”

Tony and Helen had separated. Tony headed over to Clint’s table.

Clint smiled and nudged Sam to scoot over to make room for Tony.

With a grunt, Sam did so. “So how’s the new girlfriend?” Sam teased Tony.

Tony rolled his eyes. “More like lab partner.” Tony sat beside Clint. Tony had only been seated for a second when he wrapped his ankle around Clint’s under the table. “Clint’s the only person for me.”

Tony pecked Clint on the cheek.

Bucky rolled his eyes. “We get it. You two are soulmate-roommates. No need to kiss each other in front of us.”

Clint and Tony shared a look and grinned.

Clint grabbed Tony’s face and gave him a hard, messy kiss that went on until Sam threw his french fries at their faces.

Tony and Clint laughed as they broke apart.

Senior Year

“Clint. Tony,” Steve spoke like he was talking to a potential jumper who was standing on the edge of a rooftop. “We all know you love each other.”

“Maybe a little too much,” Rhodey added.

Steve sent Rhodey an annoyed look, and Rhodey sent it right back.

“Listen, you two can’t marry each other just because you make good roommates,” Sam cut in when he saw Steve and Rhodey headbutting.

“I don’t see why not,” said Tony, who was pacing his dorm room as he looked up wedding venues on his tablet.

Clint laid sprawled on the couch, his chin resting purposefully in his hand to show off the gold band around his finger. “I think it’s the perfect reason. I mean, we have been dating for almost four years now, and we clearly enjoy living together, so why not-”

“What!” Steve, Rhodey, and Sam shouted in unison.

Clint smirked. “Have you three really been this oblivious?”

Tony scoffed. “More like they assumed I was banging every girl I talked to.”

Clint feigned ignorance. “But the kissing, Tony. We kiss all the time. We’ve even held hands when walking. For the last two years we’ve gone on vacations with each other for the holidays. We also share clothes and stuff. I feel like we’ve been pretty blatant.”

Tony gave the trio a pointed look. “I don’t know why they’ve never figured it out. All I know is, none of them should become detectives.”

“This has gotta be a prank,” Sam said.

Rhodey shook his head. “Nope. I know when Tony is lying. He’s serious. Congrats, you two. Sorry, for being a thick dumbass.”

“Does anyone else feel like everything they know is a lie?” Steve asked.

Sam huffed and clapped his hand on Steve’s shoulder. “I feel you on that. However, you have to admit, looking back on it, it does seem obvious. We should have questioned them when they started talking about sharing showers to conserve water.”

“Or you know, when we both answered the door naked that one time,” Tony added.

“So, do you three think our last name should be hyphenated, or should we make up an awesome last name?” Clint asked. “How about ‘Legend of Zelda’ for a last name?”

“Only if both of us change our middle names to ‘the’,” Tony responded.

Clint looked up at Tony adoringly. “You complete me.”

Superstar Justin Timberlake finally reveals why he left *NSYNC, in the February issue of The Hollywood Reporter. Two of the main reasons the Sexyback singer states are that he cared more about music then some of his band members and that he was growing out of the boy band lifestyle. Timberlake further explains his feelings,

“I felt like I had other music I wanted to make and that I needed to follow my heart.”

When it comes to his love of acting and singing, the father of one had this to say,

“I want to do both things. I really do idolize the golden era of Hollywood, when actors were required to sing and move.”

Justin Timberlake’s full interview hits newstands February 17th.

What was it like when you found out the news that Rostam won’t be in the band anymore?

CT: I had heard that, I’d knew that for a while. I personally felt bummed, I sorta liked the idea of the classic phase being the only phase, the original member sort of thing. Would never put things in his mouth or speak to the reasons why he made that decision. I feel like he had sort of said and brought it up and after this point had more serious talks and heard about it; I love that guy, I hope he does very well, and like I said I just saw him play and he seemed really happy on stage, but yeah that’s all i could ever hope for.

If you look at the tapes from - if you check the books on Bonnaroo ‘14, well then I was getting a little emotional that show because that was fresh for me, and you know this is maybe revealing a little too much, but I’m a bit of a crier, straight up. I just remember playing that show being like “fuck, man”, like this is weird, this thing has been a constant and like this governing factor for my entire adult life is gonna change and like change is weird and change can be painful, and you know, even when there’s nothing you can do about it and even if it’s the right choice for everyone involved. I don’t think I shed tears but I definitely was like feelin’ it. I was feelin’ it. So I have no idea what exists from that show in a video sense. But at this point that was now 2+ years ago, like he’s doing his thing, everyone’s doing their own respective things, there’s still a lot of collective stuff to come, but you know I think Rostam’s happy and he’s doing what he wants and that’s all I would want for him.

This new Columbus tour is one of the reasons why I love this band and why they inspire me so much. They never forgot where they started. They never forgot about what it’s truly important. They never forgot their home and their first supporters. This is something huge.

This band still feels like home.

anonymous asked:

Any thoughts on the chatter before 'Olivia' ("rest for four bars")? And the 'writing' noises on 'I want to write you a song'? Are the of any added value to you?

I do have thoughts about that, anon, really complex and conflicted thoughts.

I’m going to refer you to this brilliant Masters thesis, written by a Scott Interrante, who is the host of the popunlimited podcast.

http://onedirectionthesis.tumblr.com/

When One Direction adds in these ambient studio sounds– the insider musician chatter in “Olivia,” the scratching of a pencil in “I Want to Write You a Song,” the fans in “History,” the purpose is to add an illusion of authenticity. The illusion gets fans closer to being in a live experience, a folk music, intimate, small venue, acoustic experience.

It is musical gesture– a way for the band to evolve away from pre-packaged, cookie-cutter boyband pop songs and closer to music they would prefer to make, closer to what they personally like to listen to. They are striving for the authenticity of making “real music,” not the typical boy band, “bland-as-fuck” (Zayn’s words) pop music.

This question of authenticity is a complex one. As consumers, we know that what we consume has a veneer of artifice. We know that voices are auto-tuned and distorted by reverb. We know that 1D songs go through a production process that transforms the raw material into the polished radio hits.

We like to listen to professionally produced music. And that’s okay.

But as Scott’s thesis argues, this question of authenticity goes to the very heart of the question of One Direction.

Selling authenticity of music is a way of selling an authentic fandom experience– the same way that @Louis_Tomlinson seems authentic when he tweets that Pizza Hut should DM him, as if this is Louis Tomlinson charmingly asking for a pizza, rather than Louis Tomlinson™ being paid to endorse Pizza Hut. The lines of authenticity are being blurred without informing the audience.

It isn’t as clear-cut as seeing a celebrity sell perfume in a magazine ad. In the same way, any fashion endorsement, interview, or brand ambassadorship through SM or pap photos strives to seem authentic. It is reflective of the huge confluence of social media and product placement in our culture. It’s the reason for Zigi.

One of the boys said in an interview once– “pressured by the modern age.” This is how modern advertisement works.

But, I mean, they’re just songs. Why get so worked up about them? Do they really have to do with all this– other stuff?

The reason it’s different for One Direction is that inauthenticity, sold as authenticity, is the badge and pride of 1DHQ. It is their modus operandi.

They hold contests to meet band members or go to special listening sessions in which the winners have already been pre-determined– and it’s rarely the casual fan without insider connections. I, and people I know, would have loved going to the London sessions. But I knew that would never have been a possibility. It’s always the people in service of 1DHQ.

This philosophy is what allows stalkers to appear as lucky fans who bump into the boys “by chance,” and allows these stalkers access to the boys time and again, often without security.

Inauthenticity as authenticity as a philosophy is extended to selling a band member’s image TO THE BAND MEMBER’S DETRIMENT. Just look at Louis Tomlinson’s representation with the James Grant Group since January 1st.

There are so many layers of inauthenticity there, that it’s both embarrassingly hilarious and inhumanely immoral.

Inauthenticity sold as authenticity is a way to double back at fans who point this out, to target and invalidate fan theories by calling them crazy, conspiratorial. By having “authentic” band member interviews (Liam Attitude interview, Zayn Fader) stating as much. By having “authentic” band members tweet angry diatribes to fans (Louis Bullshit 1.0, 2.0).

So to your question of whether these ambient noises do anything for me, I would say, yes, on the surface, they’re incredibly charming. They give off a hipster-ish vibe. I love hearing Harry’s and Louis’s voices in Olivia. The pencil scratching in IWTWYAS is a bit cheesy but ok. The fans in History are lovely.

Other musicians include ambient noises on their discography to sound authentic. At the end of Carlie Rae Jepsen’s “Let’s Get Lost,” you can hear this incredibly charming, haunting sound of a dog howling, synthesizers and percussions dying away as if the music itself is being disassembled, put away. Another example would be the weird but lovely oscilloscope sound in Wilco’s “I am trying to break your heart.”

Will there ever be a time when authenticity for 1D is, well, authentic?

It’s like a little ink seeping into water. The water can never be clear again. It can only get clearer if diluted by a lot more clear water. Honesty is a difficult thing to reclaim.

Generally I love a little fun and games in music– and actually love all sorts of ambient noises being incorporated into music. But as usual with One Direction— it gets me thinking.

Reasons why I really appreciate this:

  • First off, thank you for including my smol son in this Yugioh Rock Band AU!!!! yes!!!!
  • Look at him being a DJ, he’s so excited!! i bet he’s doing such a good job, you go lil Yugi.
  • RIPPED JEANS OMG LOOK AT THIS LITTLE PUNK
  • Those gold converse shoes and his pimped out fingerless gloves and the ankle buckles and jewelry. like he is more decked out that Yami, I love it.
  • that pose, he’s totally multitasking with all the different equipment. My son is so talented, I’m so proud.
  • THAT CUT  OUT SHIRT OH MY GO D  YUGI

Sometimes I forget that Yugi is the one who picks out all the leather bondage slave outfits and that Atem canonically doesn’t like his taste, but look at him going for it anyway. You go Yugi, you follow your dreams. And your strange, strange fashion sense.

My thoughts on Riverdale so far...

I don’t watch CW shows anymore because they’re all shit (usually after S3) but I was a HUGE Archie comic fan so here goes - Ep 1-7

- Veronica is a boring. Literally no depth. Or maybe there is. It’s just not interesting enough. Bathroom breaks.

- Archie and his Troy Bolton story line can go kiss my ass

- All my RL friends hate who they chose to play Archie (KJ) but I don’t think he’s so bad. The only funny thing is the difference in him and Jughead’s voice….LMAO Cole is a man with a deep voice while KJ is a more realistic 16 year old (he’s only 19 so that’s understandable).

- Jughead is cool and emo. Doesn’t eat 500 burgers in one sitting like the comics but I appreciate that the writers are trying to do something different.

- LOVE Betty. And the actress who plays her is AMAZING….and she’s only 20??!!!

- Kevin is great but I already sense that he’ll be reduced to a side gay character thats just there. I miss him and Betty’s interactions :(

- Beronica will never happen. They’re just playing y’all

- Jughead was asexual in one out of the THOUSANDS of Archie comics. Get over it. He’s straight in the series just like he was straight in 99% of the comics.

- Cheryl is amazing. Truly an iconic queen. They picked the perfect actress.

- Josie and the pussy cats is spot on. All that sass. Plus they have AMAZING voices. Not the same as the comics….but better!

- Why are the parents so mean to each other’s kids. You’ve literally known them since they were BABIES

- Ngl I love Alice Cooper tho. So much fun to watch

- I love Bughead and the reasoning behind it. If you re-watch the episodes you’ll see all the not-so-subtle hints of Jughead bing jealous- like when Betty had a date with that one ex-football player

- I LOVE that the show is addressing all these issues like sexism and racism without being extra and actually incorporating it into the storyline.

- Can’t wait for Archie’s band vs. Josie’s band in Battle of the bands

- But most of all I can’t wait till Archie actually gets a storyline worth watching

- Also interested and excited for the Jughead/Betty/Archie love triangle that the cast has teased. The actress who plays Betty (Lili) has great chemistry with both

Short analysis of the MysMe characters

Ok so I’ve been seeing a lot of posts either praising or criticizing single characters … and I couldn’t help but think about it myself. So I’ve collected my own take on the whole crew, positive as well as negative. Because let’s face it – all of them have good and bad traits to them! And that’s okay!

Pls be aware that this has been written by someone who loves (almost) all these characters to bits and pieces. (^_^;)

Yoosung

— the flaws —

  • Lazy bum who spends his nights gaming instead of studying and sleeping, then complains about it
  • Passive personality, can’t motivate himself to do anything for himself and needs others to give him a push
  • Has not processed his apparent crush on his cousin properly
  • So screws up quite a bit when it comes to romance
  • Some of the flirting can be cringy and he can turn slightly yandere

— and why I love him anyway —

  • He is genuinely a sweet and nice guy and probably couldn’t hurt a fly (well, unprovoked)
  • Cares a lot about the others and their wellbeing
  • Often a heart on his sleeve type of guy
  • Relatable as hell, because I’m sure a lot of students were in his situation once
  • Actually really smart
  • Likes to help both people and animals
  • Great character development!

Zen

— the flaws —

  • Tends to force others to give him the praise he craves
  • And will give it to himself, too, no matter if he was successful with the last point or not
  • Is almost immediately overprotective of MC, seemingly just because she is a girl
  • Despite being the one who comes on to her the strongest of all of them
  • Shows uncalled for aggression and rudeness towards Jumin who actually never did anything wrong to him

— BUT here’s why I still love him —

  • Is actually sweet and caring, and genuinely supportive
  • And his protective instinct can be a good thing
  • Can take care of you and himself, too, so he might actually be the most well adjusted adult of all of them
  • Talented and passionate and willing to fight his way through life to follow his dream
  • He’s outgoing and usually open about his emotions
  • Also relatable, because a lot of people have hidden insecurities

Jaehee

— she does have … some flaws —

  • Not very good at taking care of herself and her own needs, sacrifices her health and wellbeing out of fear of what would happen if she lost her job
  • Can be slightly annoying at the beginning of Zen’s route because she is a bit overprotective of him
  • Kind of in the closet about her bisexuality

— though not a lot of them because —

  • She is sensible, capable, reliable – and still humble
  • Also kind and helpful, despite seeming a bit unapproachable at first
  • A hard worker who only came this far through her own efforts
  • Her thoughts and troubles about work and life in general are very relatable
  • Has a hidden passionate and excitable side to her, which is cute
  • Also is a hidden bad ass

Jumin

— the flaws —

  • He’s … well, a trust fund kid who relies on his ridiculously inexhaustible resources a lot
  • Has a bad case of repressed emotions
  • And detachment from other people
  • Slightly unhealthy relationship with his cat because of this
  • His romance becomes very intense, in a … concerning way at first, also because of his emotional and inter-personal issues

— but again, here’s the good about him to consider —

  • Very hard to offend or intimidate because of his pragmatic and confident mindset
  • Good at handling difficult situations
  • Cares a lot more about the people around him than anyone would expect
  • He is actually quite open minded and curious, eager to learn about new things
  • His social awkwardness and his more “human” moments are surprisingly cute
  • Also, actually does work for his money, and is very generous

Seven

— the spoiler-ish flaws —

  • He got very used to being dishonest
  • Tends to go to extremes when his protective side is triggered – and not necessarily in good directions
  • Latent self-hatred, awkwardly mixed with arrogance concerning his abilities
  • Not above lashing out at people when distressed (though only verbally)
  • Is kind of pushed as the “main route” which may be annoying to some

— and why I love this cute hacker anyway —

  • Exceptionally entertaining with his quirkiness and random sense of humor
  • Quick thinking and open minded
  • Relatable for a lot of reasons, ranging from the silliness, to the nerdiness, and to the deflecting from serious issues by turning them into a joke thing
  • Actually a dedicated and caring person, and really protective of those who are dear to him
  • Wants nothing more than them to be happy and safe

Spoilers ahead for the rest.
