really starting to like my coloring

It is spring cleaning time so I’m updating my commission info!

MY ART TAG in case you want to take a better look in what I can do

  • Fullbody: sketch 15-20€
  • Fullbody: ink and color 25-30€
  • Another character + 15€
  • Background + 20 - 40€

My list is really flexible and if you want something not mentioned here (like bust or bigger pic), contact me and we can come up with a price!

I price my stuff mostly for detail and the amount of work it takes me to do it, especially backgrounds vary a lot. I’m most comfortable with nature themes like forests but love drawing buildings too!

I use paypal invoices and will send you one after we have discussed and agreed with the commission and price. I’ll start working after you’ve paid and will post thumbnail sketches and final sketch before inking for you to check, unless you’re against that. When finished, I’ll scan and send the pic to you.

IF you want the original piece for yourself that’s totally possible and I’m happy to send it to you as I’m slowly drowning in paper. I ship everywhere. Price will be packaging (2€ for sturdy letter that keeps stuff safe) and postage fee to your destination. Obviously you need to be comfortable with giving me your address :D

Contact me here in tumblr via insta messenger (please don’t use asks as I usually don’t see those) or via email at mareliini91 (at)

Have a nice day & reblogs are always appreciated!

hi berry! I'm rereading splash of color today and I just wanted to, like, drop in and point out how proud I am of the improvement you've made in your writint over the years. it's amazing and so are you. ❤

Aww thank you!! Ahaha to be perfectly honest, when I first started out, I really was more interested in pretty pictures and not so much for the words. I grew to really enjoy the writing as I progressed. I am glad you can tell!

Much love, my dear! ♥

anonymous asked:

It's weird but, can you give some advices to draw digitally?

omG tbh i am super duper new to digital art, so idk if i’m the best person to ask for advice…,,,i have lots of friends like @vess-hs and @mintykoi a nd @bear–art who have way more experience with digital art than i do so this would probably be a better question for them

BUT!!!! since you asked!! my advice would be to practice a lot :3 i know everyone says that but like,,its so super important! ALSO!!!! WATCH VIDEOS THAT OTHER ARTISTS HAVE ABT THE PROGRAM UR USING! ive watched so many videos about sai and like,,,tips and tricks from artists who have been using the program for YE ARS, and it really helps u learn all the ropes and shit. and its important, esp when you’re just starting out, to FINISH drawings. cause if you never go through the last steps of a drawing, like shading and coloring and adding effects and stuff, than youll never learn how to do it properly. aND ALSO! if ur close with any experienced artists sometimes it helps to show them what youre working on and ask if anything can be improved. its a learning process!

i hope this helped! im new to art so lets cheer for each other :3

Yo yo yo! What if we called prinxiety 'greyscale'? I mean, Princey always wears white and Anxiety always wears black, their colors representing their personalities, and everything between is a greyscale!

oh my! I really like this idea

you can take it so many ways too! like, theres a bar that has from white to black and maybe when they meet it was in the middle of the greyscale, and then it moved to black but it slowly starts moving to white and its at the purest white when tey realize they love each other ;;

(sorry, i had to type that!)

An afternoon date~

and a bonus

warm and soft like a fireplace….a heith….

Fishing: digital painting walkthrough

So I got a question on anon asking me about my drawing coloring process, and unfortunately I accidentally deleted it, because I have clumsy fingers on mobile.

Thank you so much for your interest, I’m really honored! I will try and give a brief overview of my drawing process, and hope this is helpful or useful to you! I just started experimenting with Photoshop last summer around July, so I’m definitely not the most experienced, I’m still learning a lot!

I’m going to be using this drawing of Lapis, because it’s one of my favorite pieces and it is more detailed than my average drawing:

This drawing was inspired by the episode “Alone At Sea”, where I wanted to illustrate this concept:

This was my main reference, but I also throughout, used a lot of google images of water and colorful fish.

Sketch: My canvas size was 3000 px wide and 2000 px high. I tend to sketch with the standard brushes and I actually have like 2 layers of sketches (one for basic shapes/sizes of things, then one for rough details and things).

Lineart + base coloring: I add lineart, usually px size 6-8, with the pencil brush. I then add base colors, using the default solid brush. Usually they are the generic color I’m going for. I try not to get too stressed about the base colors because I usually cover most of them up.

Primary highlights/light sources: It gets more interesting once you establish primary light sources, so where the main light source is coming from, as well as reflections of things. I use a larger brush and add these on new layers, set to either overlay or screen or pin light. So I wanted light to be shining through the water, making the color reflect on Lapis, which is how it works with real light.

Detail/color: I think this is the most fun part, where you choose colors to paint over. I think I painted this the way I normally use watercolor, which is combining a lot of complimentary and contrasting colors with varying amounts of saturation. It’s more complicated to explain that, but it’s a lot of eyeballing. For example, referring to the reddish colors, I tried spreading them around the drawing instead of having them just in one place. The reddish fish reflects around the water bubble, and the light is reflected on Lapis’s clothing as well.

Highlights: This makes your drawing really stand out - often at this stage, many layers are on ‘luminosity’, ‘screen’ or ‘overlay’. I also do this with the lineart layer as well, so there are not just harsh black lines, which can be distracting. There are also secondary light sources, such as at the back of Lapis’s head, because I felt like there was still not enough red-orange in the drawing.

Small white lines also make a big difference (such as those on the bubble, and on the edges of her jacket/in her hair).

I later went and adjusted the color balance a bit, as well as increased the contrast so some more areas would appear darker and it was a bit less green in color.

That is kind of the overview! I hope this was helpful at all, or at least interesting! If you have any more questions I would be happy to answer, I enjoy rambling. Sorry if this was a bit long!

Thank you so much for taking an interest!

Storm in the Room thoughts

I’m about to go to sleep but I wanted to share a few thoughts on Storm in the Room!

I loved it. Easily one of my favorite episodes of the series (maybe even like, top ten). This meeting between Rose and Steven is something people have been thinking and theorizing about since literally episode one, and I just felt like the payoff was so good.

The thing that cements it as great in my book is the last couple of minutes, when the storm starts. First of all, the storm is so visually striking and the animation is stunning!! Rose’s hair looks great, Steven’s expressions and the framing of everything felt totally perfect. I really, really liked the way the colors of the room changed to a darker pallette that was still colorful. Normally depicting storm clouds in cartoons is so dull, because the only thing that changes is the clouds turn gray. For this, we got a beautifully animated and colored scene that definitely sticks out. The visual of Rose in the center of a storm with Steven kneeled down in front of her was really heavy hitting. And I feel like making peace with his role with regard to Rose will help Steven move forward, for sure.

It seems like he has to come to terms with the fact that he will never *actually* know or have a relationship with his mom. But then, the ending really tied it together by showing that despite not having his mom in his life, he still has a *great* support network and a loving family that will ALWAYS be there for him, so he’s never truly alone. Plus oh my gosh it was adorable seeing them all roll in and cheer Steven up, even though they had no idea what had just happened–it was exactly what he needed. And you know what I need? More adorable fluff, slice-of-life type stuff that includes the Gems. Cuz this pizza party is just so cute?? I also need sleep, so I’m gonna head out. Love you guys!

I had a really fucked-up body horror dream last night. I’m going to describe it now. Consider yourselves warned if you keep reading.

The right side of my body was lightly encrusted with what I told myself was “acne”. They were hard, stiff, and scab-like, varying in color and texture. Some were large pale craters, others raised brown pustules. I avoided looking at or touching them even when they started to creep across my jaw and neck.

My cat, however, was oddly fixated on them. Every time I walked into the room, she would rush over to me and start biting at them. It didn’t hurt much, but it made it impossible to ignore my affliction, and it grossed me out. I had to continuously push her off and lock her in different rooms, but it got to the point where my parents and I decided that it was time to surrender her to a shelter for adoption.

I tearfully went to pet her one last time. As expected, she latched onto my hand and began gnawing at the scabs there. I tried to pry her off, but she was biting down hard. With a shout of pain, I finally managed to shake her off. She’d torn open one of the scabs and had something else in her mouth - one end of a long, black, wriggling worm. The other end was still under my skin. I watched in horror as my cat yanked backwards and the worm was pulled completely out of my flesh and was followed by a thin trail of blood. It writhed on the floor for a moment before escaping through a crack in the boards.

“Mom, Dad… I think I’m very, very sick,” I cried, holding my cat tightly and trying not to pass out.

Here is one of my new favorite characters in all his asexual glory, Jughead from the Archie comics. I am not great at working in a graphic style usually I work more painterly so I will probably go back and work on this some more but my wrist started hurting and I wanted to post it, so here it is. I have been animating so I haven’t been posting because nothing is really finished yet. Also my first fan art in a while so I at least had fun with it. Also included the sketch since I like it better than the colored (but I had to color it to show the ace flag colors on the shirt)

i love night in the woods so much now, it’s so nice

also, what better way to start trying out lineless art than drawing something night in the woods related?

i really like how lineless art looks though, i might do it more often

I really need to start pushing my expressions more, so! Starting small with some basic practice. Sprinkles is totally one of my faves to draw, hands down.

Gotta keep these as sketches in the future though, cause I like coloring too much (even if I’m rather mediocre at it) and take too long doing it for these to be really effective as an exercise.

being autistic is a lot to live up to tbh. people like your cutesy aesthetics and sophisticated sense of color, but they hate explaining jokes, watching you stim irl, and get offended when you don’t have the spoons to have a conversation with them. being a sapphic autistic is really hard, bc all these messages get to you and make you feel undesirable and you start to doubt you’ll ever find a girl who really, genuinely likes you and accepts you. I make a conscious effort not to flap in front of my girlfriend, who loves me very much and reassures me I’m not a freak 24/7, because so many people have told me I look weird doing it. and I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure that’s fucked up.

So the joke is going around that this character in the new MLP movie has “Bad OC” syndrome, and it’s really starting to get on my nerves. I’m just like ???

FFS people, just because she’s redish and dark doesn’t mean she’s a black and red Mary Sue God-Alicorn. I mean first off, she’s maroon, fuscia, and purple with a seaform green accent; that a very good color scheme.

Sure, she’s got a broken horn and scar, but this is THE pony movie, so of course the stakes are gonna be a bit higher and that’ll be reflected in a new character design. And I mean, are characters NEVER allowed to look badass? It’s not like she has an edgy-grim dark demeanor or anything. She just looks like a cool action girl whose been in a major scrap or two–scarcely different than than the future designs from the S5 finale that so many people loved.

And guarantee you that was way darker and edgy than the movie will ever be.

I don’t know man. I get the impression people are over-reacting to a false perception, because this character’s design is vaguely peripheral to the much maligned black-red OC.

I’m a professional artist (or at least an aspiring one), and I’ve seen some bad OCs designs, most of which don’t have any black or red in them; Black-Red OCs are frankly a small minority, only made infamous by being the single largest category (while others follow no particular grouping).

And on the inverse, I guarantee you that I and just about every other aspiring professional artist who draws ponies could made a pretty awesome OC using mostly or only black and red.

My point is, don’t mistake a common symptom of bad character design (black red colors) for the actually underlying problem of bad character design (which is usually far more varied).

Tempest Shadow’s design is just fine–stop being a bunch of tryhard cynics and lighten up already.

(EDIT: I get that some people are more light-hearted in their derision of this character, but I still find it annoying since there are people who definitely fully mean it)
