Digital Painting: tips for beginners

Heyo! I got asked if I could make a tutorial on digital painting so I’m gonna throw together some advice meant for people who are starting out and want to figure out exactly how this stuff all works. Because it’s hard! What I hope to accomplish here is to make painting more approachable for you.

Firstly, I have put together something like this before, so for archival purposes here it is: http://holy-quinity.tumblr.com/post/89594801811/i-dont-know-how-much-of-this-kind-of-thing-you

For those of you who don’t wanna bother reading that, here are the main points:

1. Learn your program and its tools, from brush properties to layer styles. And I mean learn them. Make a cheatsheet that shows you exactly what each button and scale does, both in isolation and in conjunction with other buttons and scales. Refer to this as much as possible until it is intuitive. The end goal is to know exactly what to do to your brush’s settings to achieve a given effect.

2. It’s perfectly okay to use your sketches, linearts, and other forms of line in your paintings. They can help guide the form and there’s no need to make something fully “lineless”! I never make things “lineless.”

3. Study other people’s art and try to think how they could have possibly achieved the effects they did. You can learn a lot just by observing and mentally recreating the process stroke by stroke—muscle memory is a powerful tool at your disposal. This becomes easier to do once you’ve started doing item 1 above.

OKAY!

So where the heck do you even begin?

What I’m gonna do is try to make digital painting as approachable as possible for someone who’s never really done it. The main idea here is that digital painting is just like real painting. So if you’ve ever done real painting, you already kinda know what’s coming.

I’m gonna assume you know the basics of digital art: you can sketch, line those sketches using layers and opacity changes, and fill the lines with color, maybe even opting to add some shading…and you’ll get something like this:

You know, cell-shaded, or maybe the shading’s blended, but you’ve still obviously a line drawing with color put down on layers beneath the lines.

The next intuitive step is to try going “lineless”…but when you remove the lines you get this:

idk about you but I’m laughing at how stupid this looks

When I was first teaching myself to paint digitally, I didn’t really know how to deal with this. Without lines, the form of the subject vanished or became a mess like the above. Even if I was meticulous and careful about placing down the color such that without the lines layer turned on, the shapes fit together, it didn’t look quite right. There’d be gaps, I wouldn’t know how to incorporate the subject into a background, the contrast wouldn’t be high enough, or it’d just in general look too much like a screenshot from Super Mario 64.

Painting requires a different process than the above. You’ll have to let go of some of your habits and conventions. Such as staying in the lines. Such as fully relying on the lines. Like, I love my lines, I love my sketches—but in painting, they are guides for form, and are not the form itself. So let me go through how I approach a given painting:

My painting process starts with a sketch (here a boring portrait for demonstrative purposes). I make the opacity of the sketch layer something like 30%, and then throw down my base colors on a new layer underneath. I’m not being meticulous about the sketch itself, because again it’s just meant to guide my placement of color. I’m also not meticulous about my placement of the color.

We’re essentially sketching with color. Because ultimately what we want is for the color to take on the form and shapes conveyed by the sketch.

There’s a lot going into this about how to use value, how to shade, how to use color, etc. that I’m kinda skipping over because it takes a lot of time to explain…but there are hundreds of tutorials out there on those topics so please, google around! I found some helpful tuts that way when I was starting out.

Something I find v useful is to keep selecting colors that already exist in your image for shading and hue adjustment. This is why I start with really blendy, low-opacity brushes when throwing down color on top of the background. I can then select colors within there that are a mix of the two.

For instance, I’ll select the color of the lines here:

…and use that to shade:

And maybe I’ll select one of the darker shades around his eye, but not the darkest, to make the shading a smoother gradient…and so on.

What I do in general at this point is go over the shapes and lines of the sketch. Such that I can turn off the sketch layer and see this:

I’m replacing the lines with shading and value. I’ll continue to do this as I keep adding color.

This is all super loose. I am not dedicated to any particular stroke. I just want the colors and shading and light source to be right. I’ll use overlay layers to boost contrast or add a hue.

Here are other examples where I used this process:

I am constantly changing brushes and brush settings as I paint. It really depends on what effect I want where. I am also constantly selecting new colors and applying or blending those in. I don’t believe in having some uniformly applied base color and then shading with only one or two…that’s what I’d do if I was cell-shading like the first drawing I showed you here, but painting should be about messing with color and opacity and blending to make millions of hues!

Good rule of thumb: Hard, opaque brushes for applying color. Soft, dilute brushes for blending colors. Sometimes hard, dilute brushes can make some cool blending effects! I personally prefer harder edges on my shading so that’s a brush I use often.

This is getting a bit long so I’m gonna split it up into multiple parts, but really what I want you to get from this is:

1. learn the tools at your disposal until they are intuitive

2. sketch and line are guides for form, not the form itself

3. rather, hue and value will produce the form

And of course, practice makes perfect!!! Every drawing you make, every painting you make, will bring you one step closer to the artist you want to be, and thus every drawing and every painting, no matter what, is a success.

give him an even dye job please

I really hope that once Cas is back and the initial shock has passed, Dean sneakily tries to keep Cas at the bunker by randomly doing little things for him. Like one day, cas searches for his phone and when he eventually finds it in the kitchen it has a new case with tiny little bees on it. And about every second night, Dean will call him to the library so they can watch the new season of orange is the black together. One morning, cas even finds a solid blue tie on his bedstand, albeit in a lighter shade than his original one. When he asks Dean about it, he just gets a rumbled “y'need more than one tie, man” and a blush in return.

Summary: Five snapshots of Jughead’s and Betty’s life when Jughead had nowhere to stay and Betty was hiding him in her room.

Read on AO3

(Okay, I know this is long; I know. But seriously I can’t help the fact that I want to fill entire books with how adorably cute those two are! <3 So grab your snacks and drinks and dive in hahaha! Also I’m sorry if there are any typos, it’s really late and I’m way tired to notice my mistakes. I hope you all like it guys!!!)

Two days had passed since the night Betty Cooper had stormed inside the Blue & Gold office like a wild force of nature, catching Jughead on the act as well as learning about his secret of not having a place of his own anymore, and coexisting under the same roof was going smoothly for the two friends. Every morning they would wake up way earlier than most people in their town, and especially than Betty’s parents, and Jughead, although not being a morning person, would sneak out with a grateful smile plastered on his lips and hands full with every new snack Betty seemed to always prepare for him, and every night she would sneak him back in once she knew her parents were retired to their bedroom for the night. Their system seemed to be flawless.

Today was a low-key Wednesday night and the first time they had the house entirely to themselves, since the Coopers had yet another late night at the newspaper, the two teens finally enjoying some peace and quiet without closed doors and hush whispers. Betty was sprawled over the bed, text books and colorful markers all around her as the blonde girl was trying to finish her homework, elbow holding herself up and chin resting on her palm, head aching over an answer sheet and calves crossing and uncrossing behind her. Jughead was over the window with blinds shut – he had made Betty promise that his secret would stay between them – sitting comfortably on her white desk chair and having his long legs crossed at the ankles, outstretched against the wooden window frame, while typing furiously on his laptop that rested on his lap. Since no one was at home he didn’t have to lurk at his usual booth at Pop’s. Plus, he found Betty’s presence a very good remedy for writer’s block.

“I tell you, we will have the finest furniture in all of Ferelden.”

He had to admit he had zoned out of much of the chatter as they drank. Pointless small talk about drapery, and carpets and-

“Particularly the desks.”

“Oh, the desks are good, so I hear.”

“Sturdy is what I have heard.”

“Mh. Well, Cullen has the largest out of us all…desk that is. Perhaps we should ask for his consideration?”

He glanced up, suddenly aware of a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. “It’s, er…a desk? A fine desk? No complaints.”

“But Commander, do tell.” Dorian’s smirk grew to a positively mammoth grin, curling at the edges as he leant forward. “Tell us your thoughts on just how sturdy a desk should be.”

And he froze.

Maker, how could they possibly know…

He couldn’t help the colour that had started to rush to his cheeks, deliberately refusing to meet the eyes he knew were locked on him, awaiting his response. A quick, sideways glance to Dorian once more confirmed his worst fears - the smug bastard knew.

Andraste, preserve me.

“You’ve gone a very adorable shade of magenta, Commander. Something you’d like to impart upon us?”

“N-No!” He managed to splutter, forcing himself to look at the assembled parties around him. “I have n-no idea what you are…to suggest…nonsense!”

“Really?” Bull’s deep voice cut in. “I heard some most interesting news floating around camp this week.”

“Did you really? Why, I wonder if it was the same news that managed to reach my ears too?”

There was a chorus of sniggering, and Cullen began to twitch, starting to rise to his feet.

“I should really get back to-“

Bull’s hand on his back caught his armour, pushing him back down in his seat. “No, no, Commander. Five more minutes. Indulge us.”

“Would someone like to tell me what I am missing here?” Cassandra was staring over her flagon, an eyebrow raised, and Dorian’s shit-eating grin grew wider.

“Yeah, Curly. It’s rude to leave the lady out of our discussion.” Of course Varric would be supporting this.

“I do not think it is gossip that the Lady Seeker would be even remotely interested in!”

Gossip? Are you saying there is no truth to it, Commander?” Smug bastard.

“Would someone care to explain to what exactly is going on?” Cassandra’s patience was wearing thin.

“My Lady Seeker, we were simply passing through the barracks earlier this week when we happened upon some interesting information. A scout by the name of Jim-“

Jim?!”  That damned scout. He would swing him from the tower when he saw him next.

“Happened to be passing along the ramparts when he saw a most flabbergasting proposition…Imagine, the dear Commander and the Herald of Andraste…testing out the very limits of our fine desks…”

“Perhaps that is why…“ Holy preserve him, not Josephine too. “There was a most interesting comment from our dear Inquisitor, enquiring as to why Commander Rutherford had a very large hole in the roof of his personal quarters that had not been repaired.”

There was silence, and Cullen wholeheartedly agreed that if a rift were to open above him, and a demon to seize him, he would have gone willingly into the Void.

“Curly? Anything to add to that, or have we got the story covered? I do like to be thorough. Remember, the Maker is watching and knows your heart, and all that jazz, so no lying.”

He saw the dawn in Cassandra’s eyes as they shifted to him, and he felt the sweat on his palms under her scrutiny. Maker, he hadn’t been this embarrassed since he was a mere boy, and damned Mia had told his parents about…

You and the Inquisitor?”

It was a fruitless endeavour to continue to pretend now, and he gave in with a heaving sigh, mumbling into his flagon as he drained it.

Sweet Maker, I need more wine.”

The table erupted into a roar of laughter and shouts, and he laid his head against the table, burying it beneath an armoured arm, Dorian’s slap to the back stinging even through the armour.

It was going to be a long, long night.

How To Art when everyone just keeps telling you to practice and you don’t know how to do that

I’ve seen a lot of stuff going around that’s like “The best think you can do when you’re a beginner artist is to practice!!!” And while that’s true it can be very difficult to get started in art when everyone just keeps telling you “practice practice practice” without giving you any tips.

I’ve seen one post that explains this pretty well but anyway here’s how to start doing art a lot besides practicing (which you should be doing):

  • Find motivation!! This is the hardest part because in the beginning it’s really easy to give up since you’re not “good enough” yet but just keep pushing forward
  • Look to others for inspiration. Did you see a really good drawing today?? What did you like about it? Maybe try to draw something using similar elements as their art did, but try not to copy them completely
  • Find a style that you like. If you really like the art style for Steven Universe, great!! Or if you like another artist online, that’s cool too!! Don’t copy their art completely, but look at things in their style that you appreciate and try to incorporate that into what you want to draw
    • Also developing an art style takes FOREVER so don’t force yourself into a style right away. It’ll come to you
  • Do studies. What that means is realistically drawing something using a reference. Seriously, draw a ceramic mug or a pencil to practice shading if you want, or draw a person to figure out anatomy. this can help a lot with just getting basics like lineart and shading
  • Practice using different techniques. For example, once you have a sketch and lineart done of your drawing, how do you want to color it? Flat colors, smooth shading, or cell shading? Don’t just stick with one thing all the time unless you really love it. It’s okay to go out of your comfort zone!
  • LOOK FOR RESOURCES. Tumblr is a good place for tutorials (@drawingden is a great blog to find some things). Look online for different techniques people use in their art that could help you
  • It’s okay to use reference images. You will thank yourself later. Google image search what you want to draw and then draw the thing

And like it’s been said before, practice. And practice every day. If you think you don’t have time to practice, make time for it. If you really want to progress in art you’re going to have to find time to practice doing it.

Also???? Do some traditional drawing before you spend money on a drawing tablet. If you’re interested in digital art that’s great but try just drawing on paper and see if you really want to go on to digital.

It’s easy to get discouraged by looking at other people’s art so try to stop comparing yourself to others too much and just use them as inspiration or your goals for the future

Anyway I guess that’s all I have to say. Thanks for reading if you made it this far :)

i listened to 20 nirvana songs while drawing this

This was it; in a few moments, you’d be sealing what had been the greatest adventure of your entire life; Harry Potter had brought you love, eternal friendship and so much happiness. You looked at yourself in the mirror, still feeling the same nerves you felt ten years ago when you were turning up to the Philosopher’s Stone premiere - now here at the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere, you quarrelled on how quickly time flied. You still recognised yourself yet you had matured - you had experienced so much and you were so lucky.

Practicing your mantra in an attempt to control your breathing, you took a breath for seven seconds, held it for five and exhaled for six. “Having fun?” You heard an all too familiar voice chime from behind you. You turn around, spotting Tom stood leaning against the doorway. “I’m so nervous.” You declare, walking over to him to give him a peck on the lips. “You look ravishing.” Tom comments looking you up and down with a smirk. You were wearing a navy full length dress that hugged your curves in all the right places. He was wearing a navy suit (which just so happened to be the same shade) and his hair was tousled just the way you like it. “So do you.” You replied in an oddly surprised tone. Tom hadn’t really bothered with the previous premieres, even turning up in jeans and a t-shirt to the last one. “You sound so surprised, love.” He chuckles, intertwining his fingers with yours. “I am, I didn’t think they’d make you look this sexy. Now I have to compete with all the other girls.” You chime, reaching up to peck his lips once again. “You’re not competing, Y/N, I’m already your boyfriend. Besides, you look amazing, should I be worried about any man trying to steal you away?” Tom asks with a grin on his face. You shake your head. “Of course not.”

anonymous asked:

AU where Skye never joined SHIELD and was born with her powers due to genetic experiments by Hydra when she was a baby. As she gets older she decided to become the Vigilante Quake of LA and would develop a rivalry with the Ghost Rider

I believe that’s close the original origin story for Daisy Johnson, right? Her father, Cal Zabo, performed genetic experiments on himself though that meant her powers were able to be activated without Terrigen Mist when she was a teenager. (I’ve never read the Secret Warriors or Quake comics so I wouldn’t know for certain).

Either way, I like it! In a world where New York is overrun with vigilantes, I like the idea of these two badasses trying to establish themselves as the "Dark Knight" of Los Angeles (I know wrong universe shame on me :P). Like, Skye (who has moved around her whole life) rolls into L.A. the same time Robbie makes his deal to become the Ghost Rider and the two constantly are at odds with each other when they show up at the same place to save the day.

On a semi-related note, these two have the worst powers to protect L.A. Like, can you imagine when they argue:

Robbie: “Quake? Seriously? Like L.A. doesn’t have enough problems with earthquakes already?”

Skye: “Says the guy with a flaming skull! In case you haven’t noticed, L.A. is in a drought! What? Are you trying to burn the whole place down?”

Bonus shitpost content: Los Angeles quickly grows to love these two vigilantes at almost a Hollywood star level and their superhero personas are constantly put in gossip magazines and such. They even get a huge Hollywood blockbuster movie based on them starring Nicholas Cage as the Ghost Rider and Scarlett Johansson as Quake with Michael Bay-level exploding action and a huge romance between the two leads. Robbie and Skye (who have a friendly rivalry at this point) agree to see it together one night in an empty theater and spend the whole time laughing at how terrible it is (although it gets awkwardly quiet during the huge steamy romance scene).

QUICK INK PICKS

I’m still in the process of writing a thorough piece on this, but in the interest of getting your foot in the door I’ve got a handful of different black inks that’re good for drawing! I’ve got them divided into two categories - dye-based and pigmented. The vast majority of fountain pen inks have liquid coloring agents, or dyes, which are low-maintenance and have no clogging issues. The downside to this is that they tend to be a bit less saturated and are quite a bit less waterproof, so depending on the brand and how much ink is on the paper you could see some blending, bleeding or smudging.

Course, there are a couple of fountain pen inks out there that ARE pigment-based, with particles small enough to pass through the feed without clogging. They’re rare, and universally pricier than most normal inks, but boy are they worth it - incredibly dark, water-resistant, quick-drying AND multimedia-friendly. Really the only downside to them other than price is more diligent upkeep on your pen; while the particles won’t ever damage your feed, buildup overtime could potentially lead to inkflow issues down the road if you don’t clean your pen out once a month or so. Hell, even if that does happen, a good flush with the proper cleaning solution or a quick scrub with a toothbrush will shake loose that buildup and you’ll be good to go again.

One last thing before we begin: if you’re just getting started with fountain pens and bottled ink, some of the prices here might seem a bit shocking. It’s a higher overhead when beginning, but one bottle of ink can easily last you 8-12 months, if not longer. Think about how fast a $9.00 3-pack of rollerball pens winds up in the garbage, or even a fistful of Sakura Microns. Most fountain pens worth their salt will be doing heavy lifting for north of a decade, so in the long run they’re pretty damn economical!

Noodler’s ($13): Your mileage may vary on some of these. Noodler’s is like the Willy Wonka of ink manufacturers - they’ve got an enormous spread of color choices, plenty of imaginative limited-edition stuff, and their formulas can have some pretty wild properties from freeze resistance to anti-feathering. Bulletproof Black is their most popular black, famous for its unique permanent properties - it binds to cellulose in paper. While this makes it water-resistant and tamper-proof, I’ve also found it to behave strangely on certain papers like moleskine pages. X-Feather’s another good choice, especially for those using less-than-ideal paper; on top of being a spectacular black, it resists bleeding/feathering. X-Feather takes forever to dry, so you’ll need to be careful while sketching, but if you’re a printer paper junkie with a hard-on for crispy lines, this might be your ticket. Sometimes they even bundle free pens with their inks, so keep an eye out!

Diamine Onyx Black ($7.50 - $15.00): Gotta hand it to Diamine, they can make a hell of a nice ink on the cheap. Onyx Black is quite saturated for the price, with some minor purple shading that tends to show up in a lot of even the pricier inks. You can get 30ml of this stuff for just a bit over seven bucks, which is absolutely perfect if you’re looking to score a good ink and pen at once on a tight budget.

Pilot Iroshizuku Take-Sumi ($20-28): This one’s on the steep side, but it also happens to be the darkest and most well-behaved dye-based ink I’ve yet used. Very saturated, you’ll only see this stuff shade if you’re laying it down wide and fast.

Platinum Carbon Black ($20): Now we’re talking. PCB’s been my go-to for years now - it’s abyssal, water-resistant, plays extremely well with other media, and is just really fucking black. Jumping to this from the dye-based inks of yore was like night and day, and I haven’t turned back. On the rare occasion it does wind up shading it’s an extremely dark gray, and it dries quickly with a very minor reflective finish. I’ve yet to find a paper or liquid medium that causes it to smear or otherwise misbehave, and I’m not quite sure I ever will. It’s a quantum leap in quality, and considering it’s only about 5 bucks more per bottle than many dye-based inks of the same volume I’ll take that hike any day.

Graaf von Faber-Castell Carbon Black ($30): Holy shit, I only recently procured a sample of this stuff and it’s even more intense than Platinum’s offering. It’s darker and more matte somehow! Maybe one day when I’m swilling the blood of the proletariat and licking coelacanth caviar off toast points I’ll be able to afford this stuff on the reg, otherwise it’ll remain an extremely indulgent acme of ink. If you’re feeling the itch, I don’t think you can do any better than this stuff!

A Raven Breath

This can be a spell, a way to cleanse your energy, and/or remove curses. Great for closet and neurodivergent witches. Even more: requires almost no spoons. Only requires intention, presence, and your breath.

The Spell/Curse:

This is somewhat tricky because it involves creating a tulpa/thoughtform.

Step #1:
Gather energy from around you or from an anchor and collect it in your lungs.

Step #2:
Begin pumping your intention into your lungs. Give the energy a mind to target the person or location and stalk it like a shadow.

Step #3:
Once the spirit and spell are fully powered, slowly breath out the viscous smoke. The smoke’s color and shade will depend on the type of spell. It should fly off towards the target, ignoring matter.

The cleanse:

I use this every day, almost 20 times. It is so simple and requires 0 spoons and is entirely unnoticeable, except to maybe some really strong empaths. It is extremely useful for fighting anxiety, removing weaker curses, depression, and is overall calming and uplifting.

Step #1:
Feel the energy racing around your body. Begin to feel for any impurities: emotions, curses, or sustos (soul-fright/trauma).

Step #2:
Begin to draw all of the bad shit into your lungs, collecting there like a drag from a cigarette in tandem with your breath.

Step #3:
Exhale slowly, feeling all of that shit flow out of your mouth as a thick charcoal black smoke. Allow the smoke to diffuse into the air or get absorbed into the earth.

(Be careful not to give the smoke a mind, the last thing we want is all your bad shit becoming a spirit. and becoming attached your ass.)

Dinner

Request from anon: Can you do a story where you (a muggle-born Hufflepuff) go to dinner with the Malfoys, but they’re a little rude and snarky and Draco defends you?

Thanks for requesting anon, may I please note to you all that requests are in fact closed and I am writing requests from the queue. I hope you all enjoy:)

That was, until you stepped inside the manor.

To say you weren’t what Draco’s parents were expecting would be an understatement. You’d finally convinced Draco to let you meet his parents after nearly a year and a half of dating; he said he didn’t want you to get hurt and over the course of the dinner you understood.

that one botched ask (sorry about that), now with images.

Hey! I absolutely adore the way you colour and I wondered if you’ve ever explained or would ever explain your process from the sketch to the finished drawing? I really struggle with shading and blending skin and especially blending the lines of the sketch in with the rest… do you happen to maybe have any tips about that? 💕 from @gay-street

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Sometimes I don’t know exactly how to answer some of the asks, and I have to plan it out :)

I already answered an ask like this, but I whipped up another process rundown for fun :D It’s simpler, but I’ll break it down anyway. (ft. nightwing)

“Get in the car love,” you couldn’t believe what you were seeing. Harry was in an outfit you knew he must’ve gotten from a costume shop. “Why are you looking at me like tha?” You had to cover your mouth with your hand to try to hide your laughter. You knew he had just gotten done filming with James but you didn’t expect to be picked up for lunch by Harry wearing a mesh tank top and a leather vest.

“Aren’t you cold?” You knew he would roll his eyes but you couldn’t help but laugh as you climbed into the passenger seat of his car. “I mean with all those holes? Are you sure you’re even properly dressed for lunch lovey?” This just rolled his eyes again as he shook his head before watching you buckle up before putting the car in drive.

“I feel a bit overdressed actually.” You couldn’t help but full on laugh at him, he just smiled that signature Harry smile that let you see all his teeth and his dimple. “But wait, this will make it a bit more casual.” You watched him pull his sunglasses off the neck of his tank top and slide them on, he looked over at you and gestured to his now complete look and you couldn’t help but laugh even more as you shook your head.

“Harry you look like you’re about to either go perform with Magic Mike or sing the YMCA!” You choked out in between fits of laughter. Harry just let out a dramatic sigh as you tired to contain your laughter. He looked over at you when you finally managed to get your laughter under control and you just shot him a smile.

“I’m getting the sense ya don’t like my outfit love.” His tone seemed serious but you knew him better, you knew that under those dark shades his eyes were glowing a lighter shade of green and you could tell by the way he was bitting the corner of his lip that he was fighting to hold himself together. “I’m really offended, I picked this out knowing you like to get an eyeful of my chest and this is the reaction I get? A fit a laughter and giggles!” By the end of his little rant he has lost his composure and was now just smiling like an idiot and you couldn’t help but once again be caught it a fit of giggles.

“Oh I love to get an eye full of the chest Harry but you might as well just take the damn tank top off and wear the vest alone!” He put the car in park in front of the restaurant before looking down at his outfit and then he looked out his drivers side window before looking back at you. You unbuckled yourself so you could lean over the center consul and take the collar of his leather vest in between your fingers feeling how soft it was. “I mean this is really soft I’m sure it would feel good on your skin.” Your voice was low but you knew he heard you when you heard him take in a deep breath and exhale through his nose.

“Now love,” his hand was grabbing at your hand that held his vest in it, giving it a good squeeze before bringing it to his lips for a quick peck. “That wouldn’t be proper attire for lunch.” He added and you just rolled your eyes at him as you took your hand out of his.

You grabbed your purse before climbing out of the car and you smiled at the valet man who took Harry’s keys, you reached and interlocked your fingers with Harry’s as the two of you walked into the restaurant. You felt Harry’s grip on your hand tighten as he pulled you closer to him so he could place a sweet kiss to the top of your head as the two of you waited to be seated.

“Maybe you can wear my vest when we get home love.” Was all he whispered to you before dropping your hand and shooting you a wink as he slid his glasses up and into his hair. You knew your cheeks were turning red by the heat that rushed to your face. He always loved getting you riled up in public, and here you were the one red faced while Harry walked around in a ridiculous outfit in a crowded resultant.

“It’ll look better on you.” He added as he took the seat across from you, he gave you this smug look because he knew what he was doing to you. He could tell by the flush of your cheeks what you were thinking about and that just made him smirk even more.

“Cheeky today are we Styles? Is all this leather and mesh getting to you?” You teased and he just rolled his eyes and reached for your hand that was sitting on top of the table. “You gonna add this to the normal rotation?” You couldn’t help but giggle at the thought of him wearing this outside a second time. Harry just huffed as he dropped your hand and crossed his arms over him chest.

“Don’t poke fun at me, I happen to like how breezy it is” His tone was playful and you knew he wasn’t upset with you, he knew this outfit choice wouldn’t ever be considered for a second wear. You looked at him and gave him a smile as you leaned over the table and placed your left hand on his cheek.

“Maybe I will wear the vest then,” you whispered as you brushed your thumb up and down his soft cheek causing him to lean into your touch. “But just the vest.” You added before you suddenly dropped your hand from his face causing him to stumble a bit from the abrupt loss of contact. He looked at you with slightly wide eyes and you couldn’t help but smirk as he was now the one with flushed cheeks.

june is pride month, so for your consideration, neil being aggressively full of pride

  • as a general rule, neil doesn’t like his public life being for consumption
  • he and andrew never “come out” they just don’t hide that they’re together
  • he may have twitter and sass the shit out of everyone but he doesn’t really reveal anything about his life ever much to the dismay of his hordes of fans
  • but goddammit he’s spent too long fighting just to be alive that he refuses to put up with being told he’s going to hell for being with andrew
  • he’s literally the brat who replies to assholes online with pictures of rainbows or gay couples
