So I’m kinda going to cheat on this one by picking my favorite series from my childhood and my favorite “more grown up” series.
The Pendragon Series by D.J. MacHale was one of the first series I read as a kid in elementary school. I actually remember sitting in the library reading The Reality Bug and having my librarian come up to me and ask me why it was i liked the series. I told her that I liked it so much because Bobby Pendragon was unlike any other protagonist I had followed thus far. He was just a normal kid, afraid of what he had fallen into and who made mistakes with (sometimes) grave consequences. Even now I still love re-reading Bobby’s amazing story.
Now that I think about it, The Pendragon series and the Night Angel Trilogy have lots of similarities (which is why I like them both so much). Kylar Stern changes throughout the series, much like Bobby, although in Kylar’s case it isn’t so much about growing up but about a change of morals. This series is dark and gritty and maybe not for the faint of heart. The story is full of twists and turns and everything is necessary, no matter how brutal.
Overall, both of these series are great reads and I highly recommend both. Don’t forget to submit suggestions for book reviews and feel free to ask me anything!
