If you’re looking for a tranquil getaway, give a good look at Amelia Island, along Florida’s northeast coast. Just 30 miles from Jacksonville, it is a world apart. Golden-hued sands and guided horseback rides along the shore. Dolphin and osprey and maybe even a glimpse of the endangered right whale. All of this, plus luxury hotels and a wonderful selection of bed and breakfasts make Amelia Island the perfect spot for gentle recreation, historical exploration (it was controlled by France, Spain and England) or just enjoying a good book. In fact, the Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards panel agrees: Amelia Island consistently ranks among its “Top 10 U.S. Islands.”

Vanity Fair’s Caitlyn Jenner Issue Named Cover of the Year
Caitlyn Jenner has another award to add to her impressive trophy case.
Vanity Fair’s “Call Me Caitlyn” cover has been named the Cover of the Year by the American Society of Magazine Editors, the organization announced Wednesday at the American Magazine Media Conference at the Grand Hyatt New York.
ESPN The Magazine’s “Body 2015: Chantae McMillan” was named the Readers’ Choice Award winner.
“The cover contest judges had tough decisions to make this year,” said ASME chief executive Sid Holt. “Any time you have to choose between an already legendary Annie Leibovitz shoot on the cover of Vanity Fair, a Mark Seliger comedy special on GQ and one of the year’s most talked-about news covers, ‘Cosby: The Women’ on New York — plus Serena Williams on both Sports Illustrated and New York — that’s a good time to be a magazine editor and an even better time to be a magazine reader.”
The ASME Best Cover Contest finalists were chosen by nearly 100 of the industry’s top editors, art directors and photo editors. Thirty-eight magazines were finalists in at least one of the 10 Best Cover Contest categories this year, including New York and The New Yorker with multiple entries each.
James Bennet, editor in chief of The Atlantic and president of the American Society of Magazine Editors was joined by Maggie Murphy, editorial director of Texture by Next Issue, to announce the winners at the conference.
