He is more than I can hold in
two hands and sadly for me,
That’s all I have but I am fascinated
by the way he looks seeping out
of my fingertips, I am fascinated
by the way he pours over my wrists
down my arms, and into the creases
of my elbows

He is more than just a lullaby
because baby, he rocks me to sleep
but lullabies end but he is on repeat
all night, and again, and again
until the morning

He is more than a metaphor
because he is two, or three, or four -
more than a novel, but equal to
A 7-word letter to his mother,
“He is more than I asked for”
