Renisance paintings, fields of wildflowers, old abandoned mansions with overgrowth, Greek mythos, old decorative bibles, the smell of hot herbal tea, early mornings, fresh dew on a spiderweb, makeup, large elaborate fountain sculptures, and the sound of the wind rustling leaves as they fall
Emerson Lake and Palmer:
smashed guitars, large cities at night, dusty church organs, metropolis movie posters, elegant gilded swords, old sifi novels, old alcohol bottles, the smell of cinnamon, bruised knuckles, sunsets, the smell of summer air, and the sound of a forest in winter
the ocean, iridescence, mountain air in the early morning, water lilies, greenhouses, the smell of the sea after a storm, holding hands, glittery capes, fae, ripples in a cup of water, elegant lace dresses, warm raspberry tea, daisies in the early morning sun, and grainy mermaid footage
large abandoned castles, old music books, smeared crimson lipstick, crowns made of gold and rubies, velvet robes, gold flakes, the smell of autumn, the sound of leaves crunching, baroque shattered mirrors, elaborate gilded daggers, red candle wax on a skull, the smell of insense burning, shattered crystals, blood soaked books, torn midevil tapestries, and empty parlor rooms with nothing but old broken furniture and paintings on the floor
Light shows, prisms, torn up money, the smell of old cigarettes that linger years after one was ever smoked, mushrooms, silhouettes, vintage postcards, erupting volcanos, broken walls, abandoned factories, the smell of an old book, dusty rooms, big fuzzy wool sweaters, and decorative tobacco pipes
the night sky, old science textbooks, silk kimonos, skeletons, the desert, the smell of new technology, dusty Ayn Rand novels, the sound of music through an old radio, the smell of an old maple table, the Canadian tundra, apples, smashed synthesizers, gears, grandfather clocks, and carved statues of trees
For @hoechlindylan. Happy Birthday, Andi! You deserve nothing but the very best. A wonderful presence in this fandom and a cracking human being all round! <3
P.S. I still can’t believe you’ve never had a milkshake.
“That is it,” Stiles
snaps, throwing the box of cupcakes- the ones he just bought- at his dorm room wall.
That’s how upset he is.
Pink and cream explodes against it and later, later, Stiles will probably be angry
with himself (for wasting good cupcakes, obviously, because screw you beige
wall “you’re not allowed to put anything up on”) but right now he is just angry.
At the world.
At his professors.
At his thesis. Especially
But most of all? He is angry at the milkshake people.
For twelve years, Stiles has pledged his undying love
to Hale’s Howling Milkshakes. For
twelve years, he’s has lived off of them. Cherished them. Cared for them as his
And now this:
We understand how disappointing it can be when your
expectations are not met. We regret to inform you that some of our milkshake
recipes have been altered. We are sorry to
hear you do not like the improvements we have made to them. Over the past
several months our customers were asked to try new blends and we found they preferred
them to the originals. Please accept the enclosed coupon for ten free ‘Hale’s
Howling Milkshakes’, so you might find a new favourite. We look forward to
receiving your further orders, and hope you will remain with us.
Your loyal friends at,
Hale’s Howling Milkshakes.
“Loyal friends,” Stiles mimics, sighing
and throwing himself down onto his bed, Disney princess style. “More like ex-friends.
Fiends. Life ruiners.”
Logically, he knows he shouldn’t be
making a deal out of this, but those milkshakes meant a lot to him. His mom
introduced them to him. She bought him his very first Strawberry and Banana Moon. They were there for him when she got
sick. They were they for him when she died.
Trying not to think about it, Stiles
closes his eyes, picturing the time his mom “accidentally” spilled a Hale’s Chocolate and Raspberry Wolf down
her dress on his sixth birthday, just to make him laugh. His dad had gotten
called into work and Stiles has been devastated because he had promised him
they would all watch Star Wars for the very first time that night with curly
fries and cake.
As it turned out though, watching Mulan for the very first time with just
his mom instead was the best birthday Stiles ever spent.
“Hey Batman – what’s got your panties
in a twist?”
Erica is already holding out a mug of steaming
hot chocolate to him as he enters the coffee shop. Life might suck balls right
now, but at least he still has his loyal Catwoman and her fondness for sneaking
him extra marshmallows every Tuesday and Friday.
“When I finally buy a pair, I’ll let
Erica rolls her eyes and Stiles shoots finger
guns at her, because apparently he will always be fifteen at heart.
“The worst has happened,” he says, sitting
down at the counter and taking a sip from the mug. He expects the liquid to
burn his tongue but, surprisingly enough, it doesn’t. This is why Erica is his
favourite person in the world. When his dad and Scott learn to be expert hot
chocolate makers, he’ll consider moving them back up the list.
Erica gasps, leaning across the counter.
“Did…plaid come back in fashion?”
“Ha-ha, very funny.” Stiles levels her
with a look, taking another sip, upset he’s too tired to think of a better
Winking, Erica slides a full bowl of
marshmallows towards him. “Would it help if I brought Derek out?”
“Mmm, you look so good, baby” he murmurs against your skin, placing wet kisses along your jawline, before his lips are on yours again, his hands in your hair.
“Luke, we are at your Aunt and Uncle’s silver wedding anniversary” you bring your hands up to his face to push him away, “you can’t kiss me like this.”
“Well, you shouldn’t look so beautiful then” he licks his now swollen bottom lip. It had been almost a month since the two of you had got together and, still, no one knew about you both. Admittedly, that was your choice. Luke wanted to shout to every person he saw that you were his girlfriend. It was due to your reluctance to tell everyone that meant you were currently stood in the cold, hidden behind a garden wall. Will and Luke’s Aunt and Uncle were having a big party for their wedding anniversary, and, naturally, your family had been invited. The party was at a fancy hotel, so your mum had insisted you make an effort with your appearance. She didn’t realise that the amount of time you’d spent on your hair was now wasted, due to your boyfriend’s lack of self control. He’d dragged you outside, to the secluded spot at the side of the building, the second you’d walked through the door.
“Romantic” you’d raised an eyebrow as your eyes adjusted to the lack of light.
“Shut up, Princess” he’d chuckled, before pulling your body roughly against his own. It was hard to resist him when he looked so good in his suit.
“We need to go back inside, before people realise we’re missing” you push him away, firmly, ignoring his pout.
“You may want to fix your hair” he bites his bottom lip.
“I swear to god, Hemmings” you mutter, trying to flatten down his hair, before running your hands through your own, as you walk back inside. You’re sure your lips are as swollen as his are too.
“Y/N!” A relative of Luke’s appears in front of you, as soon as you’ve stepped in the door, her arms wide open.
“Hi, how are you?” You smile, hugging her awkwardly.
“What are you doing all alone?” She ignore your question, “where’s that lovely boyfriend of yours?”
“Oh, there he is!” She looks around the room, “Will! Come over here.”
“Hey, Aunt Kate” he smiles.
“I was just about to tell this lovely girl how good a couple you two make” she beams at you both. You notice the figure behind her, who’s just walked in the same door you had not minutes earlier, hearing every word his aunt had said. Luke’s mouth sets in a firm line, as he looks at you before walking away.
“We, um…we’re not a couple” you mutter, “excuse me a minute.” You find Luke by the bar.
“Shouldn’t you be with your boyfriend?” He says, childishly.
“Luke, come on” you try to take hold of his hand, “you can’t listen to what your family say, they don’t seem to understand that people of the opposite sex can be friends!”
“It’s not just them though, is it?” He shakes his head, “everyone thinks you two are a couple! Even my friends have thought it before!”
“Your friends were just trying to wind me up!” You try to keep your voice down.
“They have a point though” he shrugs in an attempt to seem casual, although his voice is anything but, “you and Will are best friends, you have a lot in common, you’d make more sense as a couple than me and you.”
“Stop trying to set me up with your brother” you bite out.
“I’m just…” He begins but is quickly interrupted by the last person in the world he wanted to see.
“Y/N, my grandma is asking where you are” Will’s hand rests on your forearm, already pulling you away.
“Wait a minute” you turn back to Luke.
“Just go with Will, Y/N” Luke shakes his head, downing the rest of his drink in one.
“Y/N!” Their grandmother grins at you, “you look lovely, sweetheart!”
“Thank you! So do you, I like that colour on you!” You gesture to the simple, raspberry coloured dress she’s wearing. So far, this evening had just felt like you were being passed around Will and Luke’s relatives, but this time you didn’t mind. You loved this woman, you felt almost as if she was your own family.
“You’re happy” she muses once Will has left the two of you alone, tilting her head, “I’m glad.” You don’t know how happy you looked at this exact moment, seeing as your boyfriend had pretty much implied that you should be dating his brother.
“I…am I?” Your eyebrows knit together.
“He makes you happy, and you certainly make him happier than I’ve ever seen him,” she has a sparkle in her eyes, “he loves you, you know.”
“Oh, no…we….it’s not…me and Will are not together.” You sigh, feeling frustrated more and more by the second.
“I wasn’t talking about Will, Y/N” she takes hold of your hand, giving it a small squeeze, “it’s never been you and Will, I know that. Anyone with sense can see who you’re meant to be with.”
“So far, you’re the only one” you breathe out, suddenly feeling relieved.
“Well, that’s the thing about common sense” she shakes her head, “it ain’t bloody common. It’s always been you and Luke.”
You weren’t listening a word Will was saying. Your focus on the miserable looking boy on the opposite side of the room. The words his grandmother had said to you were repeating in your mind, and as soon as your mind had made the decision, you started to move towards him, before you managed to talk yourself out of it.
“Hey” you nudge his arm so he looks at you, “will you dance with me?” His parents both look up at hearing your words to their son, and not the son they were expecting.
“You actually want to be seen with me, in front of all these people?” His voice is bitter.
“Not really, I know how bad a dancer you are” you tug at his hand, “but I just want to dance with you.” He allows you to lead him to the dancefloor and places his hands on your waist. Far too formal than you were used to from him. You lock your hands around his neck and pull him closer to you. You can feel peoples’ eyes on the two of you, confusion probably etched into their features. Why would Will’s girlfriend be dancing so closely with Luke?!
“Everyone is staring” Luke finally wraps his arms around your waist, holding you tightly.
“Believe me, they’re staring at you” you grin, “I told you you were an awful dancer.”
“Shut up” he tries to hide his smile, “aren’t you worried what people might think?”
“They’re going to be thinking a lot more in a second” you whisper.
“What do you…” His words are cut off by your lips on his. You can feel him smile against your mouth, his hand coming up to your hair to hold your face close to his.
“That will have cleared things up for everyone” you pull away, breathless.
“Thank you” he presses a soft kiss to your lips, “are you staring at me so you don’t have to look around at everyone else’s reactions?”
“You look first.” You focus on the blue of his eyes.
“He looks pissed off” Luke glances over your shoulder.
“At me or you?” You have to ask.
“At me, obviously” he sighs.
“I should talk to him” you look down at your feet, still not wanting to see Will’s reaction.
“I’ll do it” his response surprises you.
“But…” Your eyes shoot back to his.
“He hates me, Y/N,” Luke gives you a sad smile, “and I’m dating his best friend, he’s going to be angry. But he needs to understand that this, me and you, is serious. I should be the one to tell him.”
“Okay” you nod.
“Really? Not even a bit of a fight? You’re just going to throw me to him?”
“Yes” you giggle.
“It’s a good job I love you” he chuckles, placing a kiss on your forehead.

I don't know if this is even possible... But can I just, like, ask you to do another Olicity meta? I don't even care what it's about - I love to read what you write, no matter the subject! You really have a talent for explaining character interactions and expressing your opinions.
OMG. NONNIE. You are soooo sweet. Um, sure. LOL. I’ve yet to really dive in about this moment from the Season 3 SDCC Trailer:
AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHY BECAUSE WOULD YOU LOOK AT IT? Noooooo, really look at it. Oliver’s vigil here is spectacular. His clothes are charred, his hands are scarred and maybe even blistering; he’s probably having trouble breathing because his lungs are now black from doing all he can to save his Felicity and now, after doing all he can, all he can do to keep it together is to hover over her.
Oh how I wish there was more of his face. I wish that there was a spotlight brighter than the northern star casting over his face, so that I can really see Oliver Queen unglued. He’s definitely been unhinged, unafraid, unmoved plenty of times, but I have never seen him unglued, from every corner of his soul, folding over and bowing to how much he can love another human being so much to want to attempt to dream a dream he never thought he would even conjure again for years.
Oliver Queen is made up of pieces of the past (both pre-Island and Island) and present (both Oliver Queen and the Green Arrow) glued together, with a good many of these pieces edged into shards that still draw from him. He’s always trying to reconcile himself, all of these parts, some moving, some not, but Felicity, she stills all of this for him. I don’t think Oliver has ever really been grounded. Yeah, he came home, to his family, he’s been adjusting, compromising, sacrificing, but for what? His city’s safety? Sure. His family’s protection? Absolutely. But, what of a man without more than that? Companionship, love, trust and truth, honesty and a home. What of Oliver Queen without something more?
“We’re not our masks, and we need people in our lives who don’t wear one.”
I don’t think he ever started truly wanting things for himself again until Felicity, and it shows in the limb he went out on. Asking Felicity out on a date, which for me, was his asking her to share his life and burdens (although he thought those burdens were no longer a factor). He opens up about the five years of hell, and he doesn’t feel pressed into that. It’s all so natural. He wants Felicity to hold those pieces of him and feel their weight and know that they are always going to be there for him. He knows she won’t object, run off. He’s trusting her not to again and again out in the field, but it’s so much more now, here. He’s grounded so much in how at ease his life is with this woman in it.
Now, in the lair, he stands there watching over her, apologizing a million times, for bringing her into his dream and for dreaming at all. I bet he can still see the flames, the barrels and barrels of smoke, his hands and fingers reaching and scraping until he cacthes the fabric of her once spotless raspberry cocktail dress. Digging her out and into his arms. I can’t even imagine his horror.
He shouldn’t have asked. They shouldn’t have gone. He’s in love. He’s stupid. He finally wants something for himself. He can never have it.
I know with all of my heart that this man has finally fucking had it. This will be the moment. Felicity will wake up, and want to touch him, tell him that she’s still standing, and he’ll balk, and he’ll run. It’s one of those moving parts of him that will never stop long enough now. If not for the life he leads, he could share it with someone he really cares about, he really loves. Felicity.
