♥  anna and the french kiss

I’m surprised by how much I’ll miss Paris. Atlanta was home for almost eighteen years, and though I’ve only known Paris for the last nine months, it’s changed me. I have a new city to learn next year, but I’m not scared. Because I was right. For the two of us, home isn’t a place. It’s a person. And we’re finally home.

I'm actually looking forward to what happens with Alli's abuse storyline

A lot of people are saying they’re done caring about Alli’s guy issues, and they think Alli hasn’t learned anything…or people are getting pissed off because Alli’s staying in this situation…and I see where they’re coming from, BUT I disagree 100% with people writing her off as stupid and annoying.

First of all, it actually makes so much sense that this storyline would fall on Alli.

Alli has been this smart, beautiful girl from the get-go. But also from the get-go, Alli has been “boy-dumb” as the promos say. She was brought up in this great family, but the same family has kind of tried to shelter her, so maybe she doesn’t understand that she isn’t solely responsible for the success or failure of her relationships, that it takes two. So I feel like she’s the girl who would look at every relationship failure as something where she would question what she did wrong. Breaks my heart, but it’s true, and realistic, and I know girls like her.

Anyway, her boy-crazy ways fall right in line with this story. Abusers smell potential victims like sharks sense blood in the water. She is definitely a people-pleaser, especially where guys are concerned. Even Dave, who worshipped her for so long, ended up making her question her own self-worth. And I was as pissed off as everyone else by this, but I’ve known guys who fight like hell to get a girl (like Dave did with Alli) and then after they know the girl thinks the world of them, they get cocky and believe they are doing the girl a favour being with them. Delusional, but it happens. So it makes sense.

But back to Leo. One thing that people might miss is that abusers are manipulative and they are really fucking good at being manipulative. So I hope people keep this in mind while we watch this unfold, and they don’t turn off their feelings for Alli because they are upset she is sticking around in the relationship with Leo.

I think Mindy is going to kill it for this storyline, and as much as I hate it and I’m terrified, I look forward to watching her kill it.

The whole point of this, I think, is to show how there can be such a grey area with this kind of thing - abusers aren’t necessarily adorned with fangs and horns or whatever.

It can happen to anyone.
