Pomiędzy słowem i miłością
(Eng. Between a Word and Love)

self-portrait
poetry by H. Poświatowska (excerpt)
translation by Marek Lugowski

nie ma żadnej przestrzeni
pomiędzy słowem i miłością
jesteś w przestrzeni
pomiędzy słowem i miłością
nie ma żadnej pewności
tylko słowo miłość
miłość w słowie

kocham cię bardziej niż wszystkie słowniki świata

there is no space
between a word and love
you are in the space
between a word and love
there is not any confidence
only the word love
love within a word

I love you more than all the world’s dictionaries

ten pocałunek
pachniał jak rozgryziona łodyga maku
czerwono posypał się z warg
ten pocałunek
zakwitł
w miękkim wgłębieniu dłoni

this kiss
smelled of a chewed poppy stalk
red it spilled from the lips
this kiss
blossomed
in the soft hollow of the palm of hand

self-portrait
 (November 8, 2015)

I was invited for a dinner to an Indian family during Diwali. I put on a yellow Indian dress which I was offered a year ago and never worn, but with all the accessories I chose for that outfit and my hairstyle it turned out that I looked more like Frida Kahlo, I guess. Ah, well, everyone has their “fashion idols”. ^.^

Chcę cię nakarmić sobą II

chcę cię nakarmić sobą
dotknij ustami
wypukłego brzegu ziemi
niech cię upije
bolesna świadomość wieczności
kwitnący a przydrożny
zgięty przeczuciem plonu
jak sad jestem

I want to feed you with myself
put your mouth
to the ground’s convex edge
let me make you drink
eternity’s painful awareness
I am like an orchard
blooming and roadside
bent under the portent of the crop

przyjdź do mnie ręką wiatru
usta okrutne połóż
na mojej ciepłej szyi
w liści szept wszystkie palce
żeby umilkł

come to me with the wind’s hand
place your terrible mouth
on my warm neck
put all your fingers into the leaves’ whisper
make it fall silent

istniejemy przez miłość
miłością jesteśmy
my rozkwitłe w seledynowym maju
pod wielkim pustym niebem

we exist through love
we are love
we blossoming in the aquamarine May
under the great empty sky

jeszcze głos twój usłyszeć chcę
zapachem się zaciągnąć
pojąć cię raz i na zawsze wszystkimi zmysłami
i nigdy nie zrozumieć i ciągle na nowo
dochodzić prawdy pocałunkami

I still want to hear your voice
to breathe in your scent
to apprehend you once and for all with all my senses
and to never understand and to always arrive anew
at the truth with my kisses

W zapachu konwalii goją się rany i otwierają się
szczeliny w ziemi ziejące próżnią bez dna.

In the fragrance of the lily of the valley wounds heal and
the cracks in the earth open gaping in a bottomless void.
