ranger memorial

A little series I want to start doing–whenever I have time for doodling–of Zack taking selfies/pictures of his teammates. He seemed to like observing people in the film, I can imagine he would love to capture their moments together.

Have ideas for more cute selfies? Send them to my ask and I’ll check them out!

Pat Tillman stands as the most famous example of a 21st century athlete giving up his playing career for military service. The former Cardinals safety enlisted in the Army Rangers with his brother Kevin in 2002. On Tillman’s second tour of duty, in Afghanistan, he was killed in a friendly fire incident. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart, among several other military honors. (Gene Lower for SI; Courtesy of Tillman Family)

Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman appears on the May 3, 2004 cover of SI, celebrating after making a tackle for loss against the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 20, 1998 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. Inset is a portrait of US Army Cpl. Patrick Tillman taken in June 2003. Tillman, who walked away from the NFL and became an Army Ranger following the terrorist attacks on 9/11, was killed in a “friendly fire” incident while serving with the 2nd Army Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004.
