ramadhan reminders

H-10 Ramadhan: Rugi

Lets talk about patience

“And be patient for your patience is but by Allah…” [an-Nahl 16:127]

” Await in patience the command of your Lord…” [at-tur 52:48].

“So lose not heart nor despair…” [Al ‘Imran 3:139].

“These shall be granted their reward twice, because they are steadfast…” [al-Qasas 28:54].

“…Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.” [az-Zumar 39:10]. (the reward for every deed is known except patience!)

“And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs. “ [as-Sajdah 32:24]. (patience is a prequisite for leadership in religion!)

“…and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” [al-Anfal 8:46]. (patience earns the companionship of Allah)

“And seek assistance through patience and prayer…” [al-Baqarah 2:45].

“…And the angels will enter upon them from every gate, [saying],”Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home.” [ar-Ra’d 13:23-24].

“Except for those who are patient and do righteous deeds; those will have forgiveness and great reward.” [Hud 11:11].

“And whoever is patient and forgives – indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination” [ash-Shura 42:43] (Allah has made patience a standard for courage and determination in ones affairs)

” And how many a prophet [fought and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allah , nor did they weaken or submit. And Allah loves the patient.” [Al ‘Imran 3:146]. ( its a condition of his love)

“But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good].” [Fussilat 41:35].

“Do you not see that ships sail through the sea by the favor of Allah that He may show you of His signs? Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.” [Luqman 31:31].

” And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains. If He willed, He could still the wind, and they would remain motionless on its surface. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful” [ash-Shura 42:32-33].

Dear nafs, I want to go to war with you and win. — Yasmin Mogahed

Allah was always ready to listen to me, I was just not ready to hear him.

We speak to Allah five times a day atleast, he is always listening, he is the best listener there is. But when did you last allow Allah to speak to you? When did you last long to hear your Lords word? Allah speaks to us through the Qu'ran. Cling tightly to his word, hold it close to your heart, I promise you his word is like a love letter to the soul of the believer.

At the doorstep of Ramadhaan,

The Sahaabah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and those who followed them upon righteousness would spend 6 months asking Allaah to ensure they reach Ramadhaan, saying “oh Allaah let us witness another month of ramadhaan” and then the other 6 months they would make dua’ah to Allaah and ask “oh Allaah accept the month of Ramadhaan from us.”

Our generation struggles to find 6 days to dedicate in worship, du’ah and Qur’an. We have grown haughty and negligent, our words say one thing and our actions bear witness to something else.

May Allaah purify our hearts, rectify our intentions and solidify our faith so we willingly, happily and hastily run to Allaah’s obedience.

The One who answers du'aas

Oh you who saved Nuh AS and so he was victorious and you carried him on your ark.

Save me from drowning in my sins

Oh you who protected Ibrahim AS from the fire by saying be and it is.

Protect me from the fire within myself

Oh you who ordered the whale to release Yunus AS and sheltered him

Release me from my grief

Oh Lord, have mercy on your servents who are like Nuh, who are like Ibrahim, who are in desperation like Yunus.

Narrated ‘Āisha (radhiAllāhu ‘anha):

“The Prophet (ﷺ) used to kiss and embrace (his wives) while he was fasting, and he had more power to control his desires  than any of you.”

Said Jabir bin ‘Abdullah (radhiAllāhu ‘anhu), “The person who gets discharge after casting a  look (on his wife) should complete his fast.”

—  [Sahīh Bukhārī Vol. 3, Hadīth no. 149. Translated by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khān]

As we enter this blessed month of mercy, I give this advice to myself first, and then to you:

Don’t let this Ramadan be just a holiday of rituals. Don’t finish reading the Quran without it transforming you. Don’t feed your body at suhoor, but starve your heart of Qiyam. Don’t reduce this downpour of mercy to just a month of sweets and lavish iftars. Seek Him, you will find. Take a sincere step towards change, transformation, redemption. If you do, you will find Him in front of you. Find Him this month. He’s been there all along. Closer than your jugular vein. Look and you’ll find. Walk and you’ll arrive.

—  Yasmin Mogahed

Narrated Abu Huraira (radhiAllāhu ‘anhu):

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allāh is not in need of his leaving his food and drink.”

—  [Sahīh Bukhārī Vol. 3, Hadīth no. 127. Translated by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khān]
