I am profoundly saddened that friend, hero and creator of the rainbow 🌈 flag, Gilbert Baker died today.
‘We are a people, a tribe if you will. And flags are about proclaiming power, so it’s very appropriate. We needed something beautiful, something from us. The rainbow is so perfect because it really fits our diversity in terms of race, gender, ages, all of those things.’ – Gilbert Baker (June 2, 1951 – March 31, 2017)
Bryan Fischer, the rabid far-right activist and evangelical American Family Association radio host, turned up the unintentional self-satire to 11 on Sunday by claiming the LGBTQ movement appropriated the rainbow flag from the Bible.
“Worst example of cultural appropriation ever: LGBTs stole the rainbow from God,” Fischer tweeted. “It’s his. He invented it. Gen. 9:11-17. Give it back.”
The Bible verse in question is from Genesis 9, where God — having destroyed Earth in a massive flood — shone a rainbow down on the Noah’s Ark survivors as a symbol of his promise to not destroy the Earth again. Thrilling stuff. Read more.(4/2/2017 5:30 PM)
Pride bubble teas! I wanted to make an ace one for myself & then thought it’d be cute to do some of the other pride flags. Does anyone else think these would make cool stickers/ have more flags to add to this tasty order of drinks?
Check out the Redbubble link on my profile for stickers.
I found this moment quite symbolic as I stumbled across these two girls intertwined with each other, hiding underneath a Pride rainbow flag as they shared a private moment together. In a way it shows how they feel protected underneath the rainbow, free from prejudice and labelling. In another light it could show them hiding from the world underneath what they find safe, but either way I think this is my favourite photo from London Pride, 2015.
