Solid Saturday morning run in the middle of BFEastern Ohio. This is the only paved trail in Guernsey County and I ran it end to end. It was actually in great shape and had a few portable restrooms. (Something I keep an eye out after my run from 2 weeks ago) Cap City Half Marathon is a week from now and feeling great leading up to it. Hope you all had great runs too! ❤️✌️🏃

Dark shadows glided across the tan pavement, fiery rays from behind their sources blasting them into presence. The Lincoln Park Zoo was buzzing with visitors, you and Rob among them. People flickered in and out of your sight, impatience and excitement riddling their features as they made their way from exhibit to exhibit.

You had been to a zoo once in your life, and you hadn’t even been at home. You were young, eyes full of wonder, full of expectation for life, mouth always twisted up in some sort of small smile. You had been sent to Arizona to visit your mother’s side of the family, your grandparents before they had both passed away some years later. It was the only time other than when you boarded the plane for California that you were away from home. You were a kid, carefree and passionate about anything and everything. You remembered rushing from exhibit to exhibit, completely fascinated about the sights around you, intrigued with the unknown. It always counted as one of the best days of your life, especially when you returned home and your father died not too long after, forcing Chase to take over and then recruit you years later. So, the zoo was a fairly bittersweet place for you.

Healing.

I was going through my small library of old pieces and came across this Jily piece with a little flicker of Wolfstar.

Lily has nearly perfected her healing magic and it comes in handy more often than she would like. And sometimes, she doesn’t even need the charms to do a little healing.

Enjoy.

  • Lily pressed her cheek further into the arm rest of the chair she had curled up in
  • She had taken refuge there after a certain Head Boy got her kicked out of the library earlier and was ultimately the last one standing when the clock struck midnight
  • She wasn’t sure what time it was now as she tugged at the blanket wrapped around her body
  • There was a faint breeze coming in from the window, autumn was fast approaching at Hogwarts
  • She could still feel the heat radiating from the fire she had lit ages ago, it was still crackling and her books were still snuggly tucked between her thighs and her chest
  • She knew she should force herself out of her cozy little spot and crawl into bed but the peaceful feeling of the common room was lulling her back into her sleepy haze
  • That was of course until she heard the portrait hole swing open and multiple bodies come clamoring inside
  • Her head shot up immediately at the noise
  • She knew the sound of the Marauders anywhere
  • And she figured they would come bustling around the thin corridor sooner or later
  • It was the night of a full moon after all

The moon rose huge and fast and golden,

a great flowing disc that slid upward, out of the water and into the sky like a phoenix rising. The water was dark now, and the dolphins invisible, but I thought somehow that they were still there, keeping pace with the ship on her flight through the dark.

It was a scene breathtaking enough even for the sailors, who had seen it a thousand times, to stop and sign with pleasure at the sight, as the huge orb rose to hang just over the edge of the world, seeming almost near enough to touch.

Jamie and I stood close together by the rail, admiring it. It seemed to close that we could make out with ease the dark spots and shadows on its surface.

“It seems so close ye could speak to the Man in the Moon,” he said, smiling, and waved a hand in greeting to the dreaming golden face above.

“‘The weeping Pleaids wester / and the moon is under seas’“ I quoted. “And look, it is down there, too.” I pointed over the rail, to where the trail of moonlight deepened, flowing in the water as though a twin of the moon itself were sunken there.

“When I left,” I said, “men were getting ready to fly to the moon. I wonder whether they’ll make it.”

“Do the flying machines go so high, then?” Jamie asked. He squinted at the moon. “I should say it’s a great way, for all it looks so close just now. I read a book by an astronomer – he said it was perhaps three hundred leagues from the earth to the moon. Is he wrong, then, or is it only that the – airplanes, was it? – will fly so far?”

“It takes a special kind, called a rocket,” I said. “Actually, it’s a lot farther than that to the moon, and once you get far away from the earth, there’s no air to breathe in space. They’ll have to carry air with them on the voyage, like food and water. They put it in sort of canisters.”

“Really?” He gazed up, face full of light and wonder. “What will it look like there, I wonder?”

“I know that,” I said. “I’ve seen pictures.” It’s rocky, and barren, with no life at all – but very beautiful, with cliffs and mountains and craters – you can see the caters from here; the dark spots,” I nodded toward the smiling moon, then smiled at Jamie myself. “It’s not unlike Scotland – except that it isn’t green.”

He laughed, then evidently reminded by the word “pictures,” reached into his coat and drew out the little packet of photographs. He was cautious about them, never taking them out where they might be seen by anyone, even Fergus, but we were alone back here, with little chance of interruption.

The moon was bright enough to see Brianna’s face, glowing and mutable, as he thumbed slowly through the pictures. The edges were becoming frayed, I saw.

“Will she walk about on the moon, d’ye think?” he asked softly, pausing at a shot of Bree looking out a window, secretly dreaming, unaware of being photographed. He glanced up again at the orb above us, and I realized that for him, a voyage to the moon seemed very little more difficult or farfetched than the one in which we were engaged. The moon, after all, was only another distant, unknown place.

“I don’t know,” I said, smiling a bit.

He thumbed through the pictures slowly, absorbed as he always was by the sight of his daughter’s face, so like his own. I watched him quietly, sharing his silent joy at this promise of our immortality.

Meetup with Mar!

Some people are just really fun and easy to talk to. @mar-kicksass is one of them; we had a great early morning run around uptown Charlotte and then chatted over coffee. It was over way too fast.

We ran the Charlotte Rail Trail into uptown, past the new museums, past the new Romare Bearden Park and the Knights baseball stadium, through Trade and Tryon and down to the Seventh Street Market. Then we rode the light rail back.

Cool weather, sunshine, good run in good company. 10/10 excellent time! Let’s not wait another four years!

‘Elle required a bit of aid while sliding down the balustrade. So I greased up the rail, and WOW! - how she did sail!’

I wore pants of suede that failed the 'strade to sail. I was quite pale, afraid my progress stayed by escapade, a snail would wade that trail to more avail. I thought to bail, and played out a scale enactment tale I’d made inside my mind, but the frayed braid of shame assailed my head, and weighed my heart, and so I stalely wailed instead. But then in sailed the knight in mail, with blade and oil, and hailed the maid afraid on rail (me). He blazed a trail of oil, arrayed along the balustrade. Thus laid, it conveyed the maid in sailing staid to safety, on the promenade.
