*hysterical laughing in the distance*

Weak, noncommittal language allows readers and listeners to hide from reality, weasel out of accountability, interpret facts in whatever way flatters them most. Stark truths demand either action or an admission of complicity.

i dont trust people who rely on “the law” for morality.

it’s always some smug “well that’s the law, vote and change it if you don’t like it!” presented as some sort of gotcha. ignoring the fact that we know laws and legal precedents in the past have been ethically wrong, abusive, racist, bigoted, you name it, and many laws continue to be such to this day; ignoring that changing these laws has always been a much more complicated and dangerous ordeal than “just voting”. “we” as in “we the people” didn’t make the laws; we never have. the rulers did, and those same rulers enforce those laws through force. always have and always will. the “social contract” theory is horseshit, we don’t get to negotiate away laws we disagree with without a significant investment of time, money, and labor; these things are out of the reach of most people. therefore, the idea that the law is any kind of metric for morality -even in so-called ‘democratic societies’- is inherently fallacious and ahistorical.

which brings me to my conclusion that people who say shit like this don’t really care about ethics at all; they’re just going “Yeah, well the Law is on my side! If I call the police/a judge/some other representative of the State, they’ll side with me and you’ll be forced to comply!”

it’s intellectually lazy at best and an insidious philosophy of Might Makes Right at worst. usually a combination of the two imo

“I don’t see color” when referring to race is not good. You shouldn’t mush all races and ethnicities together in a big blurry ball. You should acknowledge their differences. Acknowledge that poc face unique problems. Acknowledge white privilege. Acknowledge that the US oppresses poc. “I don’t see color” doesn’t mean you’re not racist, it means you’re ignorant.

White man loses his job after posting racist selfie with 3-year-old black boy

After Gerod Roth, also known as Geris Hilton, posted to Facebook an image of himself with his colleague’s 3-year-old son Cayden, accompanied by racist comments both from his friends and himself, people were justifiably pissed. Sydney Jade, Cayden’s mom, started the hashtag #HisNameIsCayden in defiance of the derogatory and objectifying remarks — and it took off. Roth was promptly fired — but that didn’t stop him from making excuses and claiming to be a victim.

nah, r/ylos are all racist. i don’t care if you ain’t going around calling finn racist names, but you guys are still turning a blind eye to the vast majority who constantly erase him from the narrative or do it yourselves. you still constantly take finn’s story and characteristics and push it on your white fandom creation “ben solo”. you were still laughing when neither finnrey nor stormpilot made it to the top 10 ships of the years.

and when fandom asks for people to acknowledge the internalized racism within  fandom you all cover your ears and act like “you just don’t see it” or “not all reynos” or how “you just want to have fun” instead of idk thinking of ways to make fandom not feel like a shithole for fans of color.

like thousands of you can reblog a meta that literally refers to finn as inferior to kylo ren. but all magically can’t see the racism rotting inside your own walls when people call it out.

i'm cuban and colombian and i don't have a typical "latinx" name but i get S O tired of ppl saying to give lance the last name mcclain. like, for once i'd like nice cuban rep and it'd be the cherry on top if he had a cuban last name- bc he's a fictional character and his last name can be CHOSEN. (sorry for the caps i just get frustrated ahjdkf)

🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

thank u like im literally a biracial latinx who is part white and im like…i get it…biracial rep would be cool and all….but yall need to chill and listen to like Literal Cuban Fans telling you that using mcclain for vld lance is racist lmao he can be biracial with a hispanic last name too

plus all yall insisting on a white last name….so you want him to explicitly be part white?? what about all the afro-latinxs, the asian-latinxs, the native-latinxs, the latinoxs who are mixed but definitely NOT part white. y’all are ALL for mixed representation, but only when it’s for people that are part white?

if he gets a hispanic last name literally everyone wins. he could be full cuban (which like, lbr he honestly most likely is), he could be half asian, half black, half native, or yes half white. he COULD be half anything else and then half hispanic with a hispanic last name.

but nah he’s gotta be half white y’all right, we’ve Gotta use the last name they gave Literally Fully White Versions of him in OTHER canons right like those are apparently The Rules lmao

World Series 2016

Im not a sports fan really. Not a big fan of the Cubs, I’ve always preferred the Sox. But I’ve never been more invested in any game before (even if it wasn’t against a Chicago team I wouldn’t have wanted Cleveland to win simply on principle of their racist mascot/team name). The underdog effect was super influential on me, especially this year. And this win was important I think.

This is a team that hadn’t won the World Series in 108 years out of 112 years of it existing. The biggest underdog of this classically american sport won it all in one of the worst years that most of us have witnessed since we can remember. Even the Cubs who were under this century old curse have come back victorious. There’s this hope that we can all get out of this awful mess too.

The Right Call: Yale Removes My Racist Ancestor’s Name From Campus
I am a black student who fought to scrub “Calhoun” from a Yale residence. I didn’t know I was his descendant.
By Tobias Holden

read this. it’s short but it’s powerful, and it brings up excellent points on memory, preservation, and how we talk about history.

I love you all

I wanted to come on and just say that I love you all and I’m so proud of you for staying alive, life is really hard it’s scary, it makes us feel lonely.
I’m proud of;
-those who are facing abusive parents / relationships. (Please, tell somebody, it’s scary, get help from friends, get help from anyone, just don’t let them hurt you anymore)
-those who are going through their life with maybe only a few friends.
-anyone that gets up and manages through the day with a disorder or illness.
-those who are on medications for their illness (good for you for remembering to take your meds)
-those who hear voices (it’s going to be okay, I promise, put on some music okay? Listen to white noise, do what you need to do okay?)
-anyone in the lgbtq community, yet have parents who are against it (keep going, don’t let them shame you for who you are.)
-any victims of any sort of harassment, (it’s going to be okay, stay somewhere you feel safe. It’s all going to be okay)
-those who are called racist names (don’t let them label you, you’re much more than they can see.)
-those living in a war zones (it will end, it may take some time but it will come to an end, stay strong)
-those who work more than 1 job to earn money for themselves and/or family.
-those in college or university (post secondary is stressful, keep going, your education is very important)
-anyone struggling with the loss of a loved one (take breaks, stay healthy, you will be okay, I promise)
-everyone.

You’re all so strong, I adore and admire your strength. Keep going. It will all be okay.
