On all of these “Good Things About 2016” posts, I haven’t once seen one about the fact that London elected Sadiq Khan as mayor, who is a practicing Muslim, the son of a Pakistani immigrant bus driver, and who grew up on a council estate - as opposed to Boris Johnson who went to Eton and Oxbridge - and who takes part in interfaith celebrations with Christian, Jewish and Sikh religious leaders, who supports LGBTQ rights even after receiving death threats for his activism, and who withstood an Islamophobic campaign from his rival to become the first Muslim mayor of any European capital city.
Do you think it would be inappropriate or offensive for a white person to wear that "racism isnt over but I'm over racism" shirt?
Find other ways to help without giving money to FCKH8.
It would be more productive if white people called other people out on their racist bullshit. From microaggressions to slurs, don’t let anything go. Use your white privilege for good.
