Favourite YA fantasy series

1. Fire and Thorns series by Rae Carson

This is such a good series - the characters, the plot and the worldbuilding are great. The growth the heroine shows throughout the series is brilliant. She starts of fat, lazy and insecure, and it’s brilliant seeing her transform into a strong heroine. Another highlight is the romance, there’s no insta-love or excessive angst - it’s just a sweet and lovely relationship.

2. Graceling Realm series by Kristen Cashore

The series can be read as stand alone’s - the books are only loosely connected. The most enjoyable element of the series for me is the cool powers that the characters have, it makes things far more exciting. The plots are all engrossing, there’s a lot of action and there’s plenty of romance.

3. Seraphina series by Rachel Hartman

I love books with dragons, in Seraphina there’s a bit of a twist to the dragons. They’re not passionate or fiery, they’re actually quite cold, logical and emotionless. I’m not fond of the heroine or the love interest all that much but I do love the world building and the conflict between the dragons and humans.

4. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

I have a love/hate relationship with the series. It’s mostly entertaining but they are parts that drag. What I love most about the series is the arrogant heroine, most heroines tend to be insecure or modest and they’ve become boring. So it’s a refreshing change to read a heroine who is confident and cocky.
