Since my last outfit post was just very dark I tried to do the direct opposite this time and wear as many colours as I’m comfortable with. Well, I’ve managed two (￣ー￣). Went with some pastel pink and green and also took care of my outgrowth -‿◦. Well today was super chillin. Just went out to eat a lot of awesome chinese food. I’ll miss it so much when I’m back in Germany … and that’s already in three weeks ⊙︿⊙). Ok, food is quite important to me though there are so many things I’m looking forward to returning to Germany (MY FAMILY, FRIENDS… clubs with “good” music ｡♥‿♥｡!!!) that it’s not a big deal… at all ʘ‿ʘ!
Okay, I wanted to take some time with the CD before I gave my review. I preordered and received my copy in the mail this past Friday so I’ve had a few days with it to consider. I’ve pretty much listened to it front to back 5 times since it came in.
To start, there aren’t many albums that I’ll listen to from the beginning to the end. I’ll typically cherry pick a few that are my favorites at first and then let the others grow on me slowly. Sometimes a few songs on an album I won’t even listen to because I dislike them so much! Not so with the Vice Quadrant album…nope! I can honestly say that, while I have a few favorites, every song on the album is worthwhile. They all have a story to tell with beautiful, haunting, or comical lyrics that are backed by some of the most dynamic harmonies I’ve heard in a long time. The arrangements of the vocals are truly superb!
Aside from the music itself, the songs tell an incredibly imaginative narrative that will leave fans with plenty of theories. It really had ME thinking and from the blogs I’ve been looking at here on tumblr, it had many fans putting out some great questions and headcanons! I can’t wait to read with everyone has to say and perhaps we’ll see some of the repercussions of the album in the future comics? Who knows!
Anyways, here are a few of my favorites from the album so far (very hard to pick by the way):
On a Crescendo- I love the lyrics! Gorgeous “On a crescendo, now we can fly and not fall”. The movement from major to minor 3/4s of the way through is so awesome. Very catchy!
Starburner- One word- dummins…that is all
Fire Fire- Yes, if you’re familiar with the earlier works, this was one of David’s solo pieces. The way they transformed it for the trio is amazing. I loved the original but the harmonies just add a depth it didn’t have before. I think this is probably one of the fan favorites. They’ve played it at live shows before and had the fans going insane!
Over the Moon- Another one of those ‘catchy’ type of choruses! I can’t really say enough about the harmonies…am I being redundant? ‘Cause they’re seriously great…The song is swingy and reminds me a little of a 1940s style love song.
Hold Me- Currently up in music video format on YouTube (GO FIND IT). Really touching song, sad but beautiful. Isabella does a beautiful job!
I’m finishing this up by saying that buying the physical copy of the album is WORTH IT!! The art/lyric books is just WOW!!! The insert art was done by both Isabella and Sam (Rabbit and Hatchworth). Each song’s art ties directly into the story…No words for how beautifully done this was. GO BUY IT! GO BUY MULTIPLE COPIES! YOU WON’T REGRET IT!
