CAMELOT had its Broadway premiere at the Majestic Theatre this day 56 years ago on 3 December, 1960. In honour here is a rare pic of a backstage visit paid by one Queen to another.
“NEW YORK A Pair of Queens: Farah (L) of Iran and Julie Andrews, the Guenevere of Broadway’s CAMELOT, get together backstage after a performance of the hit musical. The Iranian Queen was in New York while the Shah was touring US military bases. Note ‘royal’ similarity in position of hands.” (UPI TELEPHOTO, 15 Apr. 1962).
When Todd comes to rescue Dirk from Blackwing (and he WILL damnit) Dirk’s gonna hug him.
Todd won’t expect it, of course. When Dirk sees him, he’ll hug Todd so hard the guy gets swept off his feet, and for a second Todd will just stand there with wide eyes, and with Dirk clinging to him like a lanky baby monkey. It’ll take him a few seconds to hug Dirk back, but when he does he’ll hug him just as tightly as he’s being hugged by Dirk.
Time becomes obsolete for the two of them, which is unhelpful for Farah as she’s up to her neck in soldiers who she’s just BARELY managing to keep off of Todd and Dirk. Eventually, as sweet as the moment is, she has to break them apart because,
“Guys, I hate to ruin the moment but we’re kinD OF UNDER PRESSURE HERE-!”
