Margaret Mead once said, “Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”

This is related to what I said earlier. Schools should stop churning out kids who cannot think for themselves. We should instead teach them to question authority and be inquisitive. Explore the world beyond your horizons.

I can’t tell you what to do

Don’t wait for me to tell you what to do. I am not your boss. I am more of a mentor. I can nudge you towards a certain path, but you have to figure the rest of the way on your own. And it’s not because I’m ignoring you, it’s because you need to learn to think for yourself. You have the freedom to decide your own fate. You can choose freely what you want to do for the rest of your life. That’s a freedom that our ancestors fought many wars for us to have.

So many wonderful opportunities come to you when you’re free to think in whatever way you want. A part of me didn’t want to code apps all my life, so I started doing other things. I took up photography and making YouTube videos. I even did some acting. But I was never told to do those things. I didn’t want to be pigeonholed as a computer geek.

What’s your legacy?

So fight the status quo and take a good hard look at your life. Is what you’re doing now something you wish you were doing 10 years from now? Is this what you want people to know you by if you were to leave your legacy here today? These were the kind of questions I was asking myself when I was sitting in my office a few years ago. And I have no plans for returning there again.

This world for the past hundred or so years has become more and more industrialized. People in power seek to control you. And they do so by giving you a set course in life, making you follow a set of rules, and making you chant.

Chanting is just another method of indoctrination. They channel that inner animal instinct in you to howl when everyone else is howling. They want you to think the same way that they are thinking. They make you say the same things the rest of the group is saying. And if you don’t, they make you feel left out.

But don’t feel left out

There are many of us who don’t feel the need to be industrialized. We are individuals and we choose to think for ourselves. So break out of the mold, and do something different.
