put a rainbow on it

My city put up pride flags

I just wanted to show all of you the flags that Dayton put up for pride month:

[[image: downtown Dayton Ohio. The city put up the rainbow flag, the trans* pride flag, the pansexual pride flag, the bisexual pride flag, and the asexual pride flag along with some American Flags]]

I was so excited. Apparently whoever was tasked with finding pride flags to fly did some research. Here’s a picture of the flags from a different view point:

[[image: downtown Dayton Ohio- another view of the pride flags.]]

I’m not sure what the white one with the two rings and the rainbows in it is. Does anybody know?

I’ve always wanted to talk a bit lenghtily about my opinions on fic, fic writing and the general writer-fic-reader culture and I just saw an extremely unpleasant “article” on ao3 that righeously attacks a certain genre of fanfic that I personally don’t read, nor like, but the existence of which really doesn’t bother me.

First things first, to me the positives of fanfiction vastly outnumber the negatives. I am used to living in absolute certainty that anytime I want to have fun, escape or get a little hot and bothered, there will always be fic to provide that for me. I will always, always find a fic I love. Notice I am saying fic *I* love, not, “fic that is good”. And having this certainty, I become entirely unbothered by the automatically existing other group, aka fics I don’t love.

Despite commenting on fics as much as I can, and participating in the fandom, there is still something utterly personal about fanfiction to me. It’s reading it on my phone as I’m shaky and queasy on my way to an exam, to a job interview, to an annoying doctor’s appointment. It’s loading up fics to my kindle and reading them at 3am on the plane when it kind of seems like neither time nor space are real anymore. It’s checking my ao3 subscription emails right after my alarm goes off because finding out a fave WIP updated might actually wake my brain up in a pleasant manner. I’m not exaggerating when I say I go through my life non-stop reading fics bit by bit.

What each and every one of the writers responsible for those fics gives me is priceless. And they are not even asking for a price! Just some damn decency.

The phrase “don’t like don’t read” might seem simplistic and in a way, almost illogical - except with the existence of meticulous tagging system, it becomes reality. Tags are there to warn and to entire. Writers, use them. Readers, read them. But it doesn’t stop there. It is, in fact, entirely possible to open a fic and find it wanting and still follow that directive. How? Close the damn tab. If you want to nitpick it, the phrase becomes “i have read, i haven’t liked, i have stopped reading”.

Now, we are people. We get passionate about fandoms, characters, ships, so I get that not everyone - not all the time - is capable of being so chill about being faced with something they seriously didn’t like.

Don’t inflict it on the author. And - and this is a peeve of mine - don’t passively aggresively inflict it on all the authors who might read your vague, public rant and think “is this me?” or who will add it to that ever growing list of mental barriers and doubts that we seem to be soaking up like sponges. Just tell it to a friend. Punch a pillow. Go and find a fic you love.

Remember that even though it seems your taste might be objective, or “common sense” - and this is easy to fall into especially when things like basic grammar are involved - it’s just not. Not in these cases. That description of my daily fic consumption I wrote above? That has been going on for years and years. Somewhat recently I decided to look up fics for an old ship of mine, remembering how deeply I loved them, how I reread them many times, and I was so giddy about getting to enjoy myself like that again. My reaction was a little “oh”. It was not only me whose tastes have changed, but also fandom and fic writing that has evolved, however, that doesn’t at all alter my past enjoyment. And for every fic you scoff at, there might be a reader who is at an entirely different place than you are, and is loving it. Don’t undo their support by your selfish lash out.

Bottom line, just focus on what you do. Focus on finding what you like. Support what you like. It’s not like “bad” and “good” fic are fighting for their place on the interwebs and only one can get the spot. This is not a limited space library.

If you need a more candid conversation about things like ships, characterizations and so on, turn to meta. Meta is there for people to disagree on, because meta should follow rules of logic and analysis. Fanfiction doesn’t have to.

MODELS OWN

Models Own are renown for their super cute nail polish stands, inhabited by an array colours that would put the biggest double rainbow to shame!
But the company is rapidly becoming known for much more than nail polish… Models Own have recently expanded and opened their first flagship store in Westfield Shopping Centre (Stratford, London) and filled it with a whole host of makeup products in a variety of stunning collections!!
This week I received some of their latest products and they are simply amazing!

Pictured above are 4 of their Luxestick lipsticks which come in 3 different finishes:
Creamy Matte - available in 5 shades
Velvet - available in 10 shades
Matte - available in 10 shades

I have two lipsticks in a Matte finish (pictured left) and two in the Velvet finish (pictured right).
Here are the swatches in both natural daylight and under mobile flash. You can see that the product stay true to the shade of the lipstick bullet even under the flash. Their staying power is fantastic and I had to use an oil-based remover to get them off my arm.

Each Luxestick Lipstick retails at £7.99, but Models Own have an offer online and in-store during February where you can get a free Luxestick lipstick when you spend £10 or more. You just need to add the code LUXE10 at the checkout.

Next up are Models Owns ‘Colour Chrome Eyeshadow Kits’. When I popped in store a couple of weeks back the girls swatched these for me and I was absolutely blown away by the pigment pay-off! Much like the lipstick, I had to remove the swatches with an oil-based remover as they would not budge!

The kit comes with a little mixing tray, a primer liquid and the metallic eyeshadow. Again, 10 shades are available in this collection and I have 3 of them to show you.
The consistency is very creamy and it glides on with ease using your finger or a brush. It’s a thick medium and a little goes a long, so you can use the primer to dilute the cream but I feel the thickness adds to the intense metallic pay-off.

I have swatched the eyeshadow straight from the pot on the left, and on the right I have mixed the eyeshadow with a tiny amount of the primer. If you use too much you get more of a wishy-washy pay-off so bare that in mind.
Personally, I don’t really see the point of the primer. There wasn’t any obviously contrast with and without the primer (unless you use too much) and it lasted just the same without.
I think it’s phenomenal all on it’s own! I will definitely be stocking more of these in my kit.

Each Colour Chrome Kit retails at £14.99

The last three swatches I have to show you are from the MyShadow Cream Eyeshadow Collection. Once more there are 10 beautiful shades available in this range.
Just to clarify incase you thought I had swatched the same shade twice, I happened to chose 2 almost identical eyeshadows from this assembly. I’m quite surprised by how similar they are, in my opinion I think one should have been a bit deeper or brighter in tone to differentiate the two.

The MyShadow Cream Eyeshadows are less shiny than the Colour Chrome pots, but still have a gorgeous shimmery glow. The consistency is creamy with a smooth finish compare to the thick finish of the Chrome pots, and would go on the eyes best with your finger rather than using a brush.

Each pot retails at £6.99

Overall, I am a massive fan of these products and I am excited by what Models Own have produced for us thus far! They have hit the floor running and I look forward to seeing AND trying more from them throughout 2017!

Let me know if you have tried any of the Models Own makeup and what you think?

Rainbow Wishes

Here’s where the aesthetics start to go downhill. Stress, y’know. I made these all pretty quickly. Some of them were rushed and I tried to give every aesthetic variations in layout and in color theme. I would love to go back and try to fix these aesthetics up to make them more presentable in my eyes but I don’t have the time. As I am writing this, I have four edits to make tonight and it’s nearly 10 PM. Hopefully this is decent enough of an aesthetic for now. :)

In Chapter 61, right after Baz put out the forest fire and pulls off Simon’s cross, Simon says this:

“Then Baz looks at me like he always looks at me when he’s about to attack.”

Literally, this messes with me. Does this mean that Baz had his attack face on? Or that what Simon had always thought was Baz’s look of attack was really his look of love and lust?

like yeah we can and should tlak abotu the teams who did nothing for hockey is for everyone month but can we also talk about the teams that tried desperately to outgay each other. like the sharks kings and oilers were all like “what can’t we put a rainbow on and we’ll go from there”

The Orlando City Soccer Club’s new stadium includes a beautiful memorial honoring the victims of the massacre at Pulse. 49 seats are arranged together in a rainbow, each representing one of the victims.

“We put them in Section 12, obviously because we felt that was pertinent — it was June 12 last year when the tragedy happened,” said Phil Rawlins, the team’s founder, while standing before the purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red rows. A stamp in the center of each seat reads #OrlandoUnited.

“So they’re right here in Section 12, they’re right down by the benches. They’ll certainly be seen by everybody inside the stadium, and a very significant reminder of that day,” he said.

The seats will be a permanent memorial at the stadium. Breathtaking. (via the Huffington Post)

My delightful, my love, my life […] I’m so infinitely used to you that I now feel myself lost and empty: without you, my soul. You turn my life into something light, amazing, rainbowed–you put a glint of happiness on everything–always different: sometimes you can be smoky-pink, downy, sometimes dark, winged–and I don’t know when I love your eyes more–when they are open or shut. It’s eleven p.m. now: I’m trying with all the force of my soul to see you through space […]

The Broganes give advice

Shiro: Lance, you worry too much.

Lance: About what?

Shiro: Everything. Life is too short for someone like you to be worrying about things that will shorten it.

Lance: Fuck yeah.

Keith: Lance, you’re a little bitch.

Lance: How so?

Keith: [punches Lance in the mouth]

Lance: [starts to cry]

Keith: See? If you really want the rainbow, you’re gonna need to put up with the rain. [Keith kisses Lance]

Lance: FUCK YEAH
