pursuit of Happiness

The sun is perfect and you woke this morning. You have enough language in your mouth to be understood. You have a name, and someone wants to call it. Five fingers on your hand and someone wants to hold it. If we just start there, every beautiful thing that has and will ever exist is possible. If we start there, everything, for a moment, is right in the world.

When it seems like no one takes you seriously, that doesn’t mean God doesn’t see your worth right where you are.

When it seems like others think less of you because of where you work, where you’re from, or what situation you’re in, that doesn’t mean God thinks less of you.

When it seems like others are progressing and you’re stuck in the same place, that doesn’t mean that it’s time to give up. Why? Because of this:

Stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.“ - 1 Corinthians 15:58

Whether you’re fixing coffees at your local coffee shop, filling out job or scholarship applications, or you’re a nurse, a lawyer, or an entrepreneur, you have an opportunity every single day to do what you do for the Lord.

People will always have their opinions of you, and there will always be those who don’t see or appreciate your worth or what you have to offer, but you can’t let affect what you have to offer the Lord: your ability and your desire to serve others and bring glory to Him in everything you do.

So whatever your dreams are, whatever things you desire for the future, don’t be discouraged of who’s not listening. Don’t give up on serving the Lord because you weren’t appreciated in the past. Take those frustrations to the feet of Jesus, lay them there, and leave them there. Ask the Lord to give you the strength to have an outlook on your job, your dreams, and whatever else you’re pursuing that reflects Him. Also, surround yourself with people who are doing the same. Surround yourself with people whose work isn’t just about making money or achieving fame, but about serving the Lord in every single aspect of their lives.

Kindness isn’t inherent. Kindness is a choice. When you choose to be kind, recognize the power you hold in each situation to continuously be kind. One isn’t born evil or good. Each moment shapes our actions and allows us the opportunity to further grow and blossom to become better than we were yesterday. And when you stop criticizing, stop blaming, stop looking outward, and start searching inward, you will find there are endless opportunities to practice kindness. Never stop seeking. Do good.

To the heart in you, don’t be afraid to feel. To the sun in you, don’t be afraid to shine. To the love in you, don’t be afraid to heal. To the ocean in you, don’t be afraid to rage. To the silence in you, don’t be afraid to break.

Friendly reminder to check you’re not holding tension in your body. Let your shoulders drop, unclench your hands and jaw. Take a deep breath. Much better.
