Fighter Week: New Magic Items

A list of magic weapons and items specially designed with fighters in mind.

Beacon of Heroism

Wondrous Item (neck), Rare, requires attunement by a fighter

A gold amulet with an amber gem clasped by a dragon claw. When you use your Action Surge, all enemies in a 40 ft. radius that can see you must make a CON saving throw with a DC of 15 or become blinded for 1d4 rounds.

Belt of Deflection

Wondrous Item (waist), Uncommon, requires attunement

A belt of deflection comes in three different materials, each with a slightly different property.

  • Snakeskin: The wearer has resistance to piercing damage.
  • Tiger Fur: The wearer has resistance to slashing damage.
  • Rhino Leather: The wearer has resistance to bludgeoning damage.

Cape of the Oracle

Wondrous Item (back), Rare, requires attunement

A knee-length, rectangular purple cape with intricate swirling patterns converging on a large central eye motif. The cape alerts the wearer’s intuition whenever an attack comes from their rear. Flanking attackers do not gain advantage on attack rolls against the wearer, and simply being behind the wearer does not grant advantage as if the attacker was unseen.

Deadfall Hammer

Magic Weapon (warhammer or maul), Very Rare, requires attunement

A heavy hammer with a head that looks like a giant ram’s horn, with the cross-section of the base forming the front face of the hammer. The weapon is treated as a +1 magic weapon. Whenever the attuned creature hits an enemy with the hammer, the creature must make a STR saving throw with a DC of 16 or be knocked backward 5 ft. On a critical hit, the creature is automatically knocked back 15 ft. and falls prone.

Deadweight Gloves

Wondrous Item (hands), Uncommon, requires attunement

A pair of supernaturally heavy gloves that look and feel like lead, yet are malleable as leather. While wearing the gloves, the attuned creature deals 1d6 base damage when making unarmed attacks with their fists. Also while wearing the gloves, spellcasters have a 25% chance that any spell that they cast fails. This damage does not stack with other bonuses to unarmed damage such as from a monk’s Martial Arts feature or the Tavern Brawler feat.

Energy Weapon

Magic Weapon (any), Rare

This weapon is wreathed in a set energy type chosen when the item was created. Variations include fire, cold, lightning, thunder, acid, poison, necrotic, and radiant. The energy is visible but can be dismissed as a free action. When the weapon’s wielder hits with an attack, the weapon deals a bonus 1d4 damage of the energy type.

Energy Burst Weapon

Magic Weapon (any), Very Rare

This weapon acts like an Energy Weapon (see above) but on a critical hit it deals 1d4 energy damage of the same type to all enemies within 5 ft. of the enemy struck.

Energy Blast Weapon

Magic Weapon (any), Very Rare

This weapon acts like an Energy Weapon (see above) except once per short rest, the wielder can speak the command word and use an action to fire a 60 ft. line of energy of the same energy type. Creatures in the area of effect must make a DC 14 DEX saving throw to try and dodge it. Creatures that fail their save take 8d6 energy damage or half that much damage on a successful save.

Extending Weapon

Magic Weapon (any melee), Uncommon

Once per short rest, this weapon’s range increases by 5 ft. for one round.

Gauntlets of Inevitability

Wondrous Item (hands), Rare, requires attunement

A pair of metal gauntlets studded with tiny claws on the back of the hand. They seem to guide your hands towards those trying to escape you. Creatures taking the disengage action to move outside of your threatened area still provoke an attack of opportunity as if they had not used the disengage action.

Helm of Blindsight

Wondrous Item (head), Uncommon, requires attunement

This bucket helmet has a single opal in the center of the forehead. The wearer has blindsight but only with a range of 5 ft.

Mimicfriend

Magic Weapon, Uncommon

This weapon in its basal form is a glob of silvery clay. With a command word, the wielder can cause it to change its shape into any nonmagical weapon that the wielder can imagine. Regular rules for proficiency apply when wielding a weapon. The weapon still counts as magical when taking the form of a nonmagic weapon.

Pauldrons of Wailing

Wondrous Item (shoulders), Rare, requires attunement by a fighter

These shoulder guards are made of iron and depict screaming ghouls with sharp teeth. When the attuned creature uses their Second Wind ability, all creatures in a 10 ft. radius must make a DC 17 WIS saving throw or become frightened for 1 round.

Rapid Weapon

Magic Weapon (any Finesse weapon), Very Rare

This weapon is bright silver and sparkles with veins of blue light. The weapon is treated as a +1 magic weapon and when the wielder lands a critical hit, the hit becomes a regular hit and then the wielder gains another attack immediately afterward against a creature within 5 ft.

Sandals of the Surging Waves

Wondrous Item (feet), Rare, requires attunement by a fighter

This set of calf-height sandals are patterned with undulating strips of tough fish leather lined with satin. When the attuned creature uses their Action Surge, an illusory surge of water follows you in your wake. Until your next turn, your movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity and creatures you pass through must make a DC 15 STR saving throw or be knocked prone.

Trueheart Crown

Wondrous Item (head), Rare, requires attunement by a fighter

A gold crown with a starburst motif at its front depicting rays of light emanating from a rearing lion. When the attuned creature heals themselves with their Second Wind ability, all allies within 20 ft. of the creature heal for an equal number of hit points.

Trifold Blades

Magic Weapon (shortsword, dagger, battleaxe), Legendary, requires attunement

This blade produces two spectral duplicates, one red and one blue, that float a few feet away from each other with a command word. The weapon itself is a +2 weapon. When the attuned creature makes an attack against a creature with the Trifold Blades, they may also choose to let the attack affect a creature to their immediate left and immediate right. The secondary attacks use the same roll as the original attack against the new targets’ AC. The shadowy blades can be withdrawn as a free action.

Wheel of Pain

Magic Weapon, Very Rare, requires attunement

This thin wheel has spikes emerging from its circumference. The wheel can be used as a martial melee weapon with 1d8 slashing base damage. The wheel can also be thrown up to 30 ft. away to deal similar base damage. Once thrown, the wheel spins wildly in place and obeys the attuned creature’s mental commands. The wheel can be moved up to 30 ft. as a bonus action on the attuned creature’s turn, attacking all creatures’ spaces it travels through. The wheel can only move in a straight line in this way. When the wheel attacks a creature in this way, it uses the attuned creature’s proficiency modifier plus their CHA modifier for the attack roll, and the CHA modifier for the damage roll. If not commanded in any way, the wheel spins in place and threatens the space it is in. The wheel will stop moving if the attuned creature wills it to stop, or after 5 rounds.

AN IDEA -

that during one of team voltron’s visit to a planet, they’re invited to the wedding of the princess who’s going to be married

and of course they say yes, but lance and keith silently suffer because seeing the other in a suit is making them weaker in the knees than usual

anyway during the ceremony the princess and the groom are married, and it’s surprisingly a little similar to a western wedding back on earth

and when it’s all done everyone claps and cheers before the married couple starts going around and talking

until finally they approach lance and keith, and the princess smiles and says, “here is my gift to you for attending my ceremony,” and presses a smooth rock with purple swirls on it into lance’s hand

cue everyone starting to screech and cheer around them, and lance and keith jump, because what the shit????

“CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WEDDING!!!” allura squeals, but it’s not even towards the princess and her husband, but to keith and lance?????

“yes, we must start planning right away!” coran says cheerfully

keith and lance look at each other before suddenly the words sank in and they went. completely red.

“WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE’RE GETTING MARRIED?!?!?!?”

bonus: turns out that on that planet, the bride would hand a stone to the couple she thought should wed next. and when she looked at lance and keith, well.

bonus bonus: lance and keith got married a year later

Hi there! I just saw your post about soulmate fic ideas and I love them too! An idea I've seen somewhere years ago is that everyone is given a necklace at a certain age and when you get closer (in distance not emotions) to your soulmate, the pendant on the necklace heats up. Maybe Bughead meet while travelling and their necklaces get really hot?

I love a good soulmate au!
***

Jughead sighed, Saturday nights were exhausting in The Southside of Riverdale. Gang meetings always took place in the sleazy beat down dive bar, with about a hundred drunken men in leather jackets trying to make sense of the latest deal they had to get done while simultaneously playing pool and hitting on the Serpent bangers. So yeah tonight had been long.

“Hot dog, I’m home.” He called out to the empty trailer, smiling when he head the familiar thumping of scruffy white paws, the dirty sheepdog standing before him with a goofy grin and slobbery tongue.
“Hey there boy.” Jughead pulled off the heavy leather jacket and flung it over the makeshift kitchen chair plopping down on the couch in the center of the room.

He was tired…all the time. being sixteen wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, he had more responsibilities now that his father was locked up, Jughead had been born a Serpent it was all he knew, but deep down he felt something, something no one else he knew had felt. He wanted more, wanted to be more. He had a friend Archie Andrews, he had met him at the Riverdale Public library one day when he was hiding from a particularly nasty gang fight. Archie had been researching music books and they had bonded over their mutual love for video games and their penchant for fried foods. Archie was the boy next door, bright red hair and a letterman jacket two sizes too big while the tshirt he wore under it was two sizes too small, but he was nice and he didn’t judge Jughead, and that in itself was a feat.

Jugheads fingers wandered up to the clear crystal pendent resting beneath his plain black Tshirt, it was the one thing in his life that was steady, constant, always hanging around his neck, a security blanket almost. He couldn’t believe it when Archie had shown Jughead his own pendent.

“It’s finally cooling down, I just came from Veronica’s house and it was pretty much on fire.” Archie had explained, toying with his pendent, dark purple and black swirls coursing through his.

A soulmate, Jughead squeezed his eyes shut. Archie had been the one to explain the soulmate necklace to him.

“When you find the one you’re meant to be with, the necklace glows, it gets hot, hotter than anything you’ve ever felt. But it doesn’t burn, it feels amazing, its right over your heart, it’s almost like sitting by a bonfire, you can feel the heat but it’s safe and warm”

He wanted it, deep down inside he knew someone like him would never get that, he wasn’t the soulmate type and he was certain his necklace would stay crystal clear his entire life, but… sometimes.. if he stared hard enough, he swore he could see green, he swore there were swirls of gold and meadow green. He was probably kidding himself, setting himself up for disappointment and failure. Wrapping his fingers around the pendent he felt his eyes drift closed, it had been a long day, he didn’t need to be thinking about things like soulmates and silly wishes.

****

“Dilton Doiley? Really? For Cheryl? You’re sure?” Betty was leaning forward on the lilac and lace comforter, the phone snug against her ear as Veronica spilled the gossip of the day.

“I sure am, apparently they never got close enough to each other to find out, but then today, in gym class, they got paired to be partners for tennis and you know where it goes from there, their necklaces lit up like fireworks and soon enough they had each other nearly naked on the gym floor before coach Clayton broke it up.” Veronica giggled from her end and Betty sighed dreamily.

“I’m happy for them, I think Dilton will be good for her… it’s so crazy how we’re paired in this universe..” Betty trailed off, her fingers playing with the edges of her comforter

“You’ll find him B, I promise.” Veronica soothing said, comforting her best friend.

Betty bit back the bitter tears and cleared her throat, speaking in an incredibly small voice
“I just want something like you and Archie have ya know? I just want someone to love me like that.” She whispered.

“And you will. I know you Betty Cooper and you won’t stop until you find him.” The raven haired princess spoke in a tone that left no room for argument.

“Okay Ronnie, I gotta go. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Veronica said her goodbyes before calling out for Betty one more time

“Don’t forget, tomorrow is that integration mixer with the Southside Students, I’m thinking leather pants and no shirt, what about you?” Betty could practically hear the smirk on the heiresses face.

“You’ve been watching too much Grease Ronnie.” She giggled before hanging up on her best friend.

Betty plopped down on her bed, eyes drifting closed as her hands found her pendent. she would find him, and hopefully soon because all this waiting was making her head hurt.
***

Veronica couldn’t control her laughter when Betty walked up to her locker before first period.

“What?!” Betty asked defensively.

Veronica settled finally and looked up at Betty out of breath
“It’s nothing, it’s just.., everyone agreed to dress a little more scandalous today, in honor of the Southside coming and you…. I didn’t even know something could be that white”

Betty looked down at her baby blue dress, the skirt grazing mid thigh, her bare arms covered by an impeccable, wrinkle free white cardigan, she wore tiny nude ballet flats and a simple gold chain on her wrist.

“I wore my hair down.” Betty tried, her hands coming up to touch the tips, she wrapped her arms around herself self consciously when she spotted all the girls in mini skirts and tube tops.

Veronica’s eyes softened and she squeezed Betty’s forearm
“You look beautiful, you always do. I’m just teasing, you know that.” She kissed her best friends cheek and Betty smiled.

Suddenly Archie came running through the halls, his eyes set on The two girls as he swooped in, pressing a kiss to Veronica’s cheek. Betty glanced down at their necklaces, feeling the familiar ache of jealousy as they glowed beautifully.

“They’re here! I saw a bunch of bikes pull up, you’re gonna love Jughead guys, he’s so funny man and he’s totally cool.” Archie rambled on and Veronica shot Betty an “is my boyfriend in love with another boy?” look.

Betty rolled her eyes and watched as the Southside teens started filing in, each one bigger and scarier then the last. Betty’s guard went up instantly and she ducked behind Veronica.

“There he is! Jughead! Hey man! Over here!”
Archie was waving to a leather jacket wearing boy in the back, Betty couldnt make out his face but she knew the prominent S on his back meant that he was a Serpent, she had written a research paper on why Serpents should be treated equal and as normal as everyone else in Riverdale. The whole Serpent culture amazed her.

He was walking towards them and Betty could just make out stormy, raindrop blue eyes. Something in her stomach twisted and she stepped closer, trying to get a better look.

Suddenly he had stopped in his tracks, His fingers instantly coming up to grip the necklace hanging on the black string around his neck, Betty did the same and as the two stared at each other a gradual heat was rising in the crystal pendent. A series of blue and black swirls racing through her pendent while his had Gold and green.

He walked closer to her, the pendent becoming unbearably hot but it didn’t bother either of them, Betty could vaguely hear the frantic whispers of Veronica behind her.

They were standing chest to chest at this point and cautiously Betty reached her hand out, stopping quickly and looking the dark haired boy in the eyes, silently asking for permission. He nodded slowly, what she didn’t know was that she could do anything in the world to him and he would just nod. She had him. That was it, he was hers now.

As soon as her tiny fingers brushed the pendent a shining bright light illuminated both of their necklaces, an almost primal growl came from deep inside Jugheads chest as his hands gripped The perfect and proper blondes waist

“Finally.” He whispered before dropping his lips to hers.

She followed with equal fervor, her hands winding in his hair as he held her tight to his chest. After what felt like hours they finally pulled apart.

Neither of the teens said anything until Betty broke the silence

“Betty Cooper, my names Betty Cooper and I guess I’m your soulmate.” Her smile was perfect and her fingers were still playing with the now filled pendent.

Jughead laughed heartily, his own long, slender fingers coming up to play with her necklace
“Can’t believe I got someone like you, you’re pretty as a picture Betty Cooper. I’m Jughead Jones and I am so happy you’re my soulmate.” He smirked crookedly before dropping his lips to hers.

The necklace pressed against each other as a warm glow of sunshine bathed the teens in light. They still had so much to learn about one another but right here, soft white cardigan pressed against worn black leather

They might just be okay.

Anxious, desperate, panicked
The day was drenched in a silvery grey mist that seemed unable to clear. It blanketed the city around you, snaking through streets and alleys, finding the cracks and crevices of every building, overflowing into any space it could find. It made you feel restless, itchy, like you were waiting for something to happen.

It had been two weeks since you last spoke to Bucky, the only communication in that time was a photo he texted you, of a deep red sunrise illuminating the craggy black rocks of a mountain range. You didn’t know where, or what he was doing, but he liked to send you pictures when he could. He said sunrises always reminded him of you - a beautiful vision that made him open his eyes and keep moving forward. That evening, you responded with a picture of a dazzling sunset, swirls of purple and orange painting the sky. You said sunsets always reminded you of him - an explosion of wild colour and brilliant light, a perfect end to the day.
