punch balloon

I ordered another baby gate. It probably won’t work - my kitchen table is right there and the cats will probably just jump from the table top over the stacked gates - but it’s worth a try.

On a more fun note, Ray plays peekaboo and it’s the most adorable thing ever! He especially does it after a bath - he pulls the edge of the towel over his face, then yanks it off and grins and giggles hysterically as I say, “peekaboo!”

Tonight, he even did it with his onesie while I was lotioning his skin. Then I did it with his shorts and that was even funnier!

Ray is also super into balls right now. They have the big punching balloons in his daycare classroom that his teachers say he’s fascinated with. And when I picked him up this afternoon, he was playing with a large, round bouncy ball. As I was packing up and chatting with his teacher, Ray initiated a game of catch with her - with basketball-style bounce passes! Very impressive.

I love this age… Every day is something new and fun to discover together.

The Ultimate Self-Care List

Alright, I know that I’m a study.blr with 3 followers, but just for today let’s pretend that I am a self care and fitness blogger with thousands of fans. Lately, I’ve been so stressed out about personal issues, and my relatives down in the path of Hurricane Irma (stay safe everyone) I always forget the importance of self care.. you can’t study if you don’t take the time to do basic stuff such as trimming your nails and taking some deep breaths. Self-care and nutrition effects every part of your life. (Expect these reminders from me every so often.)

The moral of the story is, when your world is going crazy, don’t just say that self care isn’t important, because otherwise you will end up like me right now, stressed out with the flu, when I should be productive.

This isn’t very original, but while I’m at it, I’m just going to list some self care ideas, big and small. If you have a free Sunday, or really any free time, just read the list and choose a few things to do. Take care of yourself. (#72 is my favorite, btw)

1) Cut your nails.

2) Do a hair mask with coconut oil.

3) Do a face mask. (Buy one, or, make one at home. One of my favorites is plain yogurt and honey)

4) You should be doing this everyday, but, meditate!

5) Take a long, warm, bath or shower. Shave, and use a brown sugar body scrub.

6) Use hand lotion.

7) Read a self-improvement book.

8) Read a fictional book.

9) Read a nonfiction book about a topic that you are interested in.

9) While we’re talking about books… grab a coffee, and visit a local library or bookstore. Just explore.

10) Listen to your favorite songs.

11) Listen to some new music.

12) Visit a local record store, and if you think socializing will help you, start a conversation with someone who is looking at the same genre as you.

13) Do a homemade pedicure or manicure.

14) Paint your nails and toenails.

15) If you have some extra money, go to the spa, get a massage, a professional facial and pedicure/manicure and anything else you’d like.

16) Try a new hairstyle.

17) If you need a trim, go to the hair salon. If you need a fresh start, get a whole new haircut.

18) Call up a friend.

19) Email a relative.

20) Look at some inspirational quotes.

21) Look at cute animal photos!

23) Volunteer.

24) Do something nice for someone else, at random.

25) Take food to a friend, neighbor, or someone random!

26) Donate money to victims of Hurricane Harvey/Irma. (Or, if you are reading this in the future, donate to the people affected by a current crisis or problem)

27) Say something nice to someone you dislike, and decide to forgive them.

28) Talk to an elderly person.

29) Talk to a toddler or kid.

30) Talk to a pet.

31) Talk to your parents or relatives.

32) Donate food to the homeless.

33) Take your dog for a walk, and spend some time with them.

34) If you don’t have a dog, spend time with your pet, even if that means just sitting next to a cage.

35) If you don’t have any pets, visit a pet store!

36) Clean, or organize a certain room or area.

37) Set a timer for ten minutes and clean/organize what you can.

38) Watch your favorite TV show.

39) Watch a new TV show or movie! (I suggest Glee, The Office, and The Good Place for shows, and Moana, Frozen, Brave for movies)

40) If you have a friend or family member in the path of Hurricane Irma, give them a call or email them. They might not answer due to being busy, but, just leave a voicemail and let them know that you are there for them.

40) Write a short story.

41) Write poetry.

42) USE CAUTION with this one, and be responsible… but, if feeling angry, destroy stuff! Pop a balloon, punch a pillow, crush some fruit, shred some paper, the possibilities are endless! Just don’t harm yourself or anyone else, don’t be TOO wasteful, and don’t do this somewhere that you would get in trouble for it.

43) Paint.

44) Draw.

45) Sculpt.

46) Dance.

47) Make Music!

48) Take online personality quizzes.

49) Just sit in silence. Get to know yourself.

50) Do a science experiment.

51) Learn about something you’ve always been interested in.

52) Learn a new skill. It could be as simple as kicking a soccer ball or as complicated as learning a new language.

53) Sign up for a class. (writing class, yoga class, dance class, workout class, art class, whatever. It’s up to you)

54) Paint or Draw, but don’t aim to make anything specific. Just let the pencil lead you.

55) Run to the top of a hill or out into the forest, preferably in a location without many people. When you feel like it, stop, look around, and… SCREAM AS LOUD AS YOU CAN!

56) I might have already said this, but.. go outside into nature!

57) Go outside

58) Go outside

59) Go outside

60) I cannot stress this enough… GO OUTSIDE!

61) Go for a run.

62) Workout! Strength and Cardio workouts are good for getting out anger, Yoga is relaxing, and stretching is good for really anytime.

63) This won’t work for everyone, but, play a game of your favorite sport with friends.

64) Make a new friend, whether it be online or IRL.

65) Go to the store and buy ingredients for a healthy recipe. Cook it yourself.

66) Drink WATER!

67) Eat a super-food. (Kale Chips, smoothies, and salads are easy and quick to make)

68) I recommend healthy food, but I’m a health crazy person, sooo, if you want a treat, make some cookies, cake, or another comfort food.

69) Drink something warm, for comfort. Tea is my favorite, but coffee or cocoa work too.

70) Drink something cold, to feel refreshed and energized. Lemon Water, Juice, Iced Tea and Sparkling water are good. Soda works too but it’s very sugar-y.

71) Speaking of sugar, AVOID IT. Same with saturated fat. It’s okay every so often in comfort food, but try not to eat it on a regular basis.

72) This one is my personal favorite… MESSAGE ME! I’m always here for you if you have any questions about this post or if you just need someone to chat with. As someone who has/still does struggle with anxiety and some other issues, I know how important it is to talk to someone who gets it.

73) As much as I stress not eating junk food, don’t beat yourself up over it if you eat some. As someone who has struggled with that, know that it’s not worth getting upset over.

74) Go see a therapist, or the doctor, or whoever you feel you need to see. Seriously, if you think you need it, get professional help.

75) If you’re not feeling well, look up some home remedies for your symptoms, but if worse comes to worse, go get some medicine, even if it’s just over the counter.

76) Tell yourself that you a beautiful, and write a list of five compliments about yourself.

77) If you have a girlfriend/boyfriend/partner, tell them that you love them and spend some time with them. If you aren’t to the ‘I love you’ point yet, just let them know that you appreciate them.

78) If you are single, invite friends over, (or stay home alone), eat ice cream, talk, and watch movies. Remember that you are never truly alone!

77) Remember, self care is important. You deserve to take care of yourself.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to take my own advice and drink some water. Love you all,

How to make a pumpkin head

Since I defs didn’t want to carve a real pumpkin to put on my head and get nasts pumpkin insides all over my hair I decided to paper mache one. Unfortunately there was no good tutorials anywhere so I will share my trial and error knowledge.

First I got some supplies: 1 Punch balloon (they’re rounder and larger they regular balloons), some paper mache stuff in a bag, cardboard, a glue gun, paint, sculpey clay, tape, some news paper and some water and flour mixed together.

I then put at least three - five paper mache layers of newspaper with flour water on the balloon. I also measured my head and left an opening at the bottom. (NOTE: Don’t put tape on the balloon and try to peel it off after you’re done paper macheing, RIP)

After that’s all dry I put glue gunned some cardboard onto it to give it some pumpkin like ridges.

Then I filled the gaps between the cardboard and the newspaper with the paper mache in a bag stuff. Wait for it to dry. (Note: Don’t pop balloon until the paper mache in a bag stuff is dry cause it holds a LOT of water and your paper mache project will sink, RIP) After that I popped the balloon and lightly dampened the top with a sponge and water until it was wet enough to slowly press down into more of a pumpkin shape.

After it’s all dry I taped a stem I made out of card board on the top and put another layer or two of newspaper mache over top.

More drying wait time (you can use your oven on the lowest setting to make it dry faster) then I sanded it down and cut out a face with an exacto blade.

I added a little bit of backing behind the face on the inside with the paper mache in a bag to give it more of a 3D look which wasn’t that noticeable but oh well, it kidna worked… After all that stuffs done I painted it all white otherwise the newsprint would bleed through and make my colours not as bright, I also added some sculpey clay to the brow area to give it some more emotion in which I used an iron to dry it with cause it was too late to put it in the oven with paint all over it (Note: Put clay on before painting).

I sprayed it with a sealer before painting colours on it cause I find acrylics do weird things sometimes. After it was all dry I begin to paint.

I also painted the inside a red and added a kinda head rest thing on the inside since when I pushed the top down it made an uncomfortable point at the top when putting it on your head. Then once it was all dry I sprayed it with some more sealer, added some cool stuff like stitches with some ribbon and blood which I used nail polish for a shiny effect and put in some lights which weren’t very effective when my head was in the pumpkin but that’s okay, it still looked cool.

And that’s that!

Hope this helps some people, Enjoy!

The Magical Musical Automaton Toy Cabinet - Jean & Pierre Bellin, circa 1990.

Made of gold embellished with mother-of-pearl, enamel, and carved chalcedony and rose quartz flowers and foliage, the Bellins’ automaton opens to reveal an animated Alice and White Rabbit atop a revolving drum. The toy train circles the drum, pulling cars filled with sapphires, emeralds, and rubies; the hot air balloon also spins. The many toys in the cabinet are of enameled gold set with diamonds or carved from semiprecious stones.

I just want everyone to know that in Falsettos, Andrew Rannels, a gay man playing a gay character, got to punch a balloon version of Nancy Reagan and like

it doesn’t do much. But the symbol means a lot

“so what’s it like?”

it’s like you’re the last one dancing. it’s like the party when everyone’s leaving, or already gone. the silent red cups filled with unfinished punch, the drooping balloons and the streamers, holding onto one another and adrift in the emptiness. it’s like the world turning its back on you; not in the “i’m sorry i have to let you down” way but in the “i’m sorry we have to leave you behind” way… but i can’t tell the difference.

it’s like i’m trying to remember what it used to be like in hopeless hope that i could conjure for myself what it could have been like. and i think that’s it, really - every day, waiting in the shadows and hiding in the sunlight, one haunting: what might have been.

what might have been.

what might have been.

and in the silence that follows, i give up reaching out. it’s like the lights going out, and you’re alone in the backyard, trying to find the night sky beautiful but the way the stars look at you, the way they shine like everything is still young, finds you where it hurts.

it’s like you’ve forgotten what it’s like to smile with no weight and breathe with no mistakes and walk with no sorrow, to be so free of yourself, because now, all you know how to do is cry. and cry. and amidst the tears that blur your vision, you want to hurl what might’ve been against the wall. you want to sink onto the floor and wish for hurricanes. you want to leave, too, but your angles are forcing you to stay.

it’s like you’ve forgotten the little kid that used to live so wholly in the moment, she never saw any of it coming. she watched it slip away. it’s like the loneliness is hugging you and holding your hand and wondering why none of it’s helping but you just want its shadow off of you. and you know the kind of person loneliness is - she looks like you and tries to make you happy and when it works, she grows wings and calls herself solitude. when it doesn’t, she withers and grows claws and demands you call her abandonment.

it’s like learning to love the loneliness and learning to despise it. it’s like looking away and never turning back. one day, you just stop remembering.

Happy New Year!

This is a little early, I know.

This is my first fic in a while and I didn’t realise how much I missed writing these characters until I sat down and started doing it.

Thank you for an amazing year. I’ve had this account since like, September? And I’ve met some amazing people and had some great times with all of you. I hope you’ve had a great year and if not, I hope next year is better in every way possible. I love you all so much. Hope you enjoy the fic.

Happy New Year everybody!<3

The stress was over. Beth and Hannah finally had everything in place. The snack table was full and there was plenty of booze for everybody to drink. Josh was in charge of the music and he had his iPod in the docking station in wait.

New Year was always a tense time. Josh and his sister always wanted to make sure everything was perfect for their friends. Something to remember. With their parents being away for the New Year they had gone even bigger with plans. There was more balloons, streamers, punch bowls. Josh had even cleaned the spare rooms incase people got lucky. Yeah, New Year had to be good.

As the guests started to arrive, the music had gotten louder and drinks started sloshing over the cups rather than being poured into the cups. No one seemed to mind, or even notice really.

“Hey, pornstars!” Josh greeted his friends; Jess, Mike, Emily, Matt and Ashley had all arrived together having squeezed in Matt’s car who was this year’s designated driver. Not that anyone ever drove home after a Washington Party.

“Pornstars?” Jess asked, her eyebrow raised in amusement as she gave Josh a quick squeeze in greeting.

Mike wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her to him, his other hand extending out to Josh in a fist bump for Josh. “Hey bro, watch it.” His tone was teasing, a smirk on his face. “That’s my girl.”

Emily scoffed and grabbed Matt by his letter jacket, not even acknowledging Josh. Matt waved awkwardly before following suit, an apologetic look on his face. “Catch you guys for beers soon?”

“Where’s Chris?” Ashley asked, almost a little too eagerly. She realised how she sounded and blushed a little, her eyes glancing around the room. “I mean, er…he said he was here…?”

Josh just chuckled and waved her in the direction of the kitchen. “Your prince awaits.” He bowed down low, his arm still extending towards the kitchen for Ashley to follow.

Ashley bit down on her lip and followed Josh’s extended arm, muttering a quick “shut up” as she shuffled away from the group.

There was no denying who everyone would be kissing for their midnight kiss. Chris and Ashley would be in a small corner, probably dancing around the subject before finally kissing at midnight. Then there was Emily and Matt. Mike and Jess were an item, much to Hannah’s dismay, so they would be kissing. Beth had her eyes on some girl in her English class.

That left Josh.

Josh had a plan in his head to get Sam to be his midnight kiss this year. The past couple of years he had planned it to be Sam, but before he could get to her she was always with some guy, locking lips with him at midnight. Josh had ended up with whatever desperate girl that was following him that was left. Last year he had to kiss Chris. It was definitely an experience.

This year it was going to happen. It had felt for a while that he and Sam had some connection. Even Hannah and Beth had said so, hinting at the possible romance and the notion that Sam might have feelings for him that she might soon be acting on. It had been months since they had told him this and he as sick of waiting around. Honestly, it was doing nothing for his anxiety. Instead of moping around, he wanted it to work. It had to work.

When Sam had arrived, Josh bounded towards her a grin on his face. “Hey there.” He held on tightly to his red cup, trying not to lose the grip from his already shaky hands from the alcohol; he didn’t want anything to ruin her dress which was such a nice shade of blue.

Sam laughed and took the cup from his hand, seeing the look of concentration on his face from trying to hold it steady. “Hey there yourself,” She took a sip from it, her eyes glancing at Josh innocently, hoping he didn’t mind her stealing some of his drink. “Good party so far?” She was always late.

Josh nodded his head, watching as Sam took the cup away from her face and noticed that her lips were painted a deep red which complimented her pale skin so nicely. Clearing his throat, he rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah, not too bad actually.” He nodded his head again and took the cup back from Sam. “Want me to get you your own drink?”

Sam just grinned at him and looped her arm through his, letting him lead her to the kitchen, her head resting on his shoulder just a little, but enough for Josh to notice how close they were and be able to smell her shampoo from all the way up there.

inside the kitchen, Chris and Ashley were in a deep discussion about something. Josh could swear Ashley was flirting, giggling at almost everything Chris was saying which wasn’t something that normally occured.

“Think they’re actually trying to get somewhere tonight?” Sam whispered in his ear, making him jump a little and pulled him away from his train of thoughts. “They are very cute together.”

Josh just shrugged and watched Sam pour her drink. “I dunno.” He glanced back at Chris and Ashley, who hadn’t even noticed that they had people in the same room as them. “I hope it’s soon though, I can’t deal with the constant pining anymore.” Josh shook his head as he poured Sam a mix of vodka and lemonade. “It’s getting out of hand.”

As Sam took the drink from Josh she nodded once, taking a long gulp of the drink, half of the contents already gone. “Woah there, Sammy,” Josh commented, laughing as he took a sip of his own drink. “You going hard tonight?”

Josh didn’t know that Sam had a similar plan to his. Except while he was feeling confident, she felt a little nervous. Beth and Hannah were in on the plan. She was going to kiss Josh at midnight. She had to. They had been dancing around each other for months on the subject and Sam was beginning to feel just as bad as Chris and Ashley. She was a confident person sure, but Josh had some kind of hold on her. If she didn’t do anything now, she would regret it.

As the pair left the kitchen, their drinks refilled, someone had shouted that the countdown for midnight was going to be starting soon. This sent Sam and Josh into a small state of panic. Their plans had worked with sticking together, but what now if the other didn’t want to be kissed?

Josh looked down at Sam who was staring into her cup, not speaking a single word. “You, er…” Josh’s words trailed off as he realised he didn’t know what to say right now.

From the corner of his eye Josh saw Mike and Jess, their arms wrapped around each other. Not far from them was Emily and Matt who actually looked happy and excited about the new year coming in.

Sam brought Josh out of his trance, taking his hand in hers as she smiled up at him. “Five.”

He took a deep breath.

This was going to happen.

“Three. Two.”

No time like the present, right?

Josh pulled Sam to him, his lips connecting with hers, pressing against each other gently. It was everything they had expected it to be. They could taste the alcohol on each other’s breath and everyone kept jumping against them, getting excited about the new year. But they didn’t move.

Pulling apart, Josh smiled down at Sam and ran a hand up and down her arm affectionately. “Happy new year, Sammy.”

I woke up
after passing out
after smoking up
after coming down
from the wa-wa sound
induced by nitrous filled punch balloons

I woke up
after snorting lines of ketamine
coupled with hits of acid and ecstasy

I woke up
after seven people died
from shooting heroin into their veins

I woke up
in a folding camp chair
with a hand wrapped around
a bag of weed
stuffed in my pocket
to a booming voice
telling me I was going to jail.

and I thanked god when they put on the cuffs
that I was one of the lucky ones that woke up
