This past weekend I sold some of these hand painted wooden cigarette packs at the Pulse Art Fair in NYC.The wooden cigarette packs (top image) are from a series I made in 2008 that included hand painted packs on wood and 12 that were painted on paper (the disassembled looking ones). I’d been storing these in a box for a few years and during a recent studio visit, the curator selected them for this exhibit. It was great to hear that they were well received and to sell a few. I made so many of these back then that I got really burnt out on them (roughly 50 wooden ones and 12 paper ones) and haven’t made any since. It’s funny to think that this was the series of work I’d been making right before starting to work with Title Fight, a move that steered me back toward landscape and more figurative paintings. At the time, I was certain I’d continue making more object based work. Alas, the winds shifted, but maybe they’re bringing me back?
