psalm 95:8

When I see the heavens, the work of your hands,
the moon and the stars which you arranged,
what is man that you should keep him in mind,
mortal man that you care for him?
—  From Psalm 8 and from Lauds for Saturday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time.  The optional memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary may be celebrated on days like today - a Saturday in Ordinary Time on which an optional memorial is permitted.
Psalm 8

1 God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name.

 2 Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you;
      toddlers shout the songs
   That drown out enemy talk,
      and silence atheist babble.

3-4 I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous,
      your handmade sky-jewelry,
Moon and stars mounted in their settings.
Then I look at my micro-self and wonder,
Why do you bother with us?
Why take a second look our way?

5-8 Yet we’ve so narrowly missed being gods,
      bright with Eden’s dawn light.
You put us in charge of your handcrafted world,
      repeated to us your Genesis-charge,
Made us lords of sheep and cattle,
even animals out in the wild,
   Birds flying and fish swimming,
whales singing in the ocean deeps.

 9 God, brilliant Lord,
your name echoes around the world.

-I’ve have been reminding a lot lately that God is not just this personal thing that I carry around with me. He’s the God of the universe, of all things on heaven and earth, and it’s by grace alone that he cares about me at all. I thank him again for loving a wretch like me.

Come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For He is our God,
and we are the people of His pasture,
the sheep under His care.
Today, if you hear His voice:
Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah,
as on that day at Massah in the wilderness

Psalm 8

O LORD our Governor, *
how exalted is your Name in all the world!

Out of the mouths of infants and children *
your majesty is praised above the heavens.

You have set up a stronghold against your adversaries, *
to quell the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, *
the moon and the stars you have set in their courses,

What is man that you should be mindful of him? *
the son of man that you should seek him out?

You have made him but little lower than the angels; *
you adorn him with glory and honor;

You give him mastery over the works of your hands; *
you put all things under his feet:

All sheep and oxen, *
even the wild beasts of the field,

The birds of the air, the fish of the sea, *
and whatsoever walks in the paths of the sea.

O LORD our Governor, *
how exalted is you Name in all the world!

Favourite thing

One of my favourite things to do when I come home at night, is looking up to the stars before going up the stairs to my front door.
It might look funny but I only stand there for about 10 seconds, just staring with my head all the way back.
I have lots of memories involving the stars; all good memories. I like looking up and realising that it’s all ok.
Because when I look up, I know as well, that my Father in Heaven is looking down on me. In that moment, when I see those stars, I feel how small I am, how big the world is; making it clear how MASSIVE MY GOD IS. and I then remember- it’s all about You God.

“I look up at your macro-skies, dark and enormous, your handmade sky-jewelry, moon and stars mounted in their settings. Then I look at m micro-self and wonder- why do you bother with us? Why take a second look our way?” Psalm 8:3-4 (The Message)

A psalm of David.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name
in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
Through the praise of
children and infants
you have established
a stronghold against
your enemies,
to silence the foe
and the avenger.

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind
that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care
for them?

You have made them
a little lower than the angels
and crowned them
with glory and honor.

You made them rulers
over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim
the paths of the seas.

Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name
in all the earth!

-Psalm 8

I Read This Over And Over

LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

   You have set your glory
   in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
   the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

 9 LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

-Psalm 8

“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:3-9

O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is your name in all the earth,
Who have set your glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants
You have ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies,
That You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which you have ordained,

What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him,
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen–
Even the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air,
And the fish of the sea,
That pass through the paths of the seas.

O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is your name in all the earth!

During our EM retreat, we visited this place called Dome Rock. We drove about quarter mile and hiked up around 50 yards. After all that, we were welcomed with these amazing views of the parts of Sequoia Park. Some of us (David, Abe and me) went 2 times during our visit but both of the visits were breath taking. You can sit or stand on this nature provided seats on the very edge to soak in the view.

While you’re soaking up the view, I’ve never felt so small in my life. I felt so helpless and there is nothing I can do to save myself if something were to happen.

And it was there where God reminded me of His grace. The Creator of this place, and many other places that are far greater than this, pursues me. The Creator of the universe sent me His only son to die for me. The Creator of all the creatures that are living beneath the cliff smiles grieves and dances because of me. The One that created me in His image loves me.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

What is man that you are mindful of him,

And the son of man that you care for him?

How inexplicable, how gracious, how utterly unfathomable is the love of God!
