Termination under new legislation carried out on woman who had unviable 18-week pregnancy and whose life was at risk.

The first legal abortion of Ireland after the passing of Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act, which was created soon after the terrible, unnecessary death of Savita Halappanavar.

However, this act allow for abortions only when a woman’s life is under threat if her pregnancy continues or if she is suicidal. Ireland has a long way to go.
