What advice would you give a college aged lesbian who's considering converting to Islam? It all feels so overwhelming and I don't know where to even start, not to mention I don't want to offend anyone.

Get to know Islam, read the Qur'an, learn what Islam is all about.

Remember that everyone has different interpretations and one line in the Qur'an can be perceived in hundreds of different ways by different people so I suggest you read it yourself and try to understand the religion yourself and find out what it means to you. Especially as a lesbian, you’ll hear so many people tell you that being gay is unlawful/haram because of some allegory they supposedly read in the Qur'an when in fact it’s just their homophobic and bigoted interpretations that deducted it in that way.

If you do decide to convert, what you should always keep in mind is you shouldn’t dress in a certain way or celebrate a certain thing because you want to be recognized as a Muslim by other people, you should do it because of your love for God. Islam is not about praying 5 times a day/wearing a hijab/etc, Islam is about your relationship with Allah SWT

All in all, Im wishing you the best of luck, you have my support! ❤️

Here are some pretty great posts filled with resources and tips that could help:

I am the person who fell for Islam from her Muslim boyfriend. He knows about me wanting to convert but I haven't told him that I want to now start becoming more religious and I don't know what is stopping me.

Hello sister

Thank you for getting in touch.

There are certain things that we have seen so far that make people postpone their shahadah.

The most common one is “the fear of adapting to the faith and to the community”

After comes “the fear of what would my parents say?”

After the feeling of “Am I good enough? I have so many sins in my past”

You can add:

“I dont speak Arabic”
“Would I have to wear hijab?”
“There is no mosque in my area”
“I am gay, how would the community treat me?”

When people come to us with all those concerns we ask them one question:

“Do you believe that there is only One God and that Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the final Prophet?”

If the answer is “YES” it means your heart has already reverted and you can say your shahadah and learn everything along the way. The simple answer to all those concerns is:

GO slowly. Dont do any dramatic changes in your life style. Accept Islam and work your way up slowly. Islam is a life long journey on which we mature each day.

People think that they have to know everything before they say the shahadah. It was not the case in Prophet’s (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) time. The companions accepted Islam and learnt along the way.

Please give this a serious thought and try to ask yourself which of these common fears is stoping you. If you want send me an IM and we will try to figure it our together insha'Allah. I will also send you all the ISLAM 101 info you might need to the beginning.

#prophet_Muhammad

40 days after Ashura (20th safar)

Imam Sajjad(a.s.) was about 22 or 23 years old when the sad event of Karbala occured. Since Allah(swt) mentions in his holy Book that this world cannot survive for a moment if there is no Masoom “Imam” present at all times, Allah(swt) arranged it such that Imam Sajjad(a.s.) became severly ill during that battle and could not participate as a warrior. He asked the permission to fight in the battle but Imam Hussain(a.s.) told him that he had been assigned a different type of “Jihad” that was to start after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain(a.s.) - namely leading the women and children of the household of Prophet Mohammad(pbuh&hf) into the bazars and courts of Kufa and Damascus. Imam Sajjad(a.s.) was made a prisoner of war together with the whole family of the Prophet Mohammad(pbuh&hf). It was at this time that he was given the responsibility of Imamate and his was one of the most difficult times when any Imam was given this responsibility. Truly speaking, for him, it would have been very easy to die on the battle field as a martyr than to be taken as prisoner of war and see all the insult and humiliations thrown on him and on the womenfolk of the house of the Prophet. However, he did what Allah wished him to do.

After the martyrdom of Imam Hussain(a.s.), the survival of Islam depended on Imam Zainul Abideen(a.s.), and that also at a tender age of 22. He had a very hard job of letting the world know the mission of Imam Hussain(a.s.) and exposing the evil intentions of Yazid and the Bani Umayyah.
The army of Yazid treated him very badly by putting him in heavy chains. As a prisoner of war, he was made to travel on the open back of a camel in burning sunshine from Kerbala to Kufa and then from Kufa to Shaam (Damascus) - a distance of about 750 kilometres. Sometimes, he would be made to walk on the burning sands of the desert. This was not all. Women and children of the family of the Prophet Muhammad(pbuh&hf), too, were hand-cuffed and treated like they were slaves. The daughters of Imam Ali(a.s.) and Bibi Fatima(s.a.) were treated worse than criminals, their Hijabs were taken away from them.

In the courts of Ibn-e-Ziyad and Yazid, Imam Sajjad(a.s.) gave lion-hearted lectures and presented the true Islam to the listeners and introduced himself and his accompanying members as the descendents of the Prophet Mohammad(pbuh&hf) and the leaders appointed by Allah(swt). His lectures had such an impact on the listeners that despite several attempts to kill him inside the court of both Yazid and Ibn-e-Ziyad could not materialize. Bibi Zainab(s.a.) and other women of the household of Prophet Mohammad(pbuh&hf) became the frontline protectors and were backed by the people in the court of Yazid who had still left some shame in them.

The effect of the speech was so powerful that everybody in the Mosque began to weep and to blame Yazid. Yazid was afraid that if the Imam continued his speech, there would be a revolution and revolt. At the same time Yazid could not stop the Imam and get him down from the Mimber. He therefore ordered a “Muazzin” to give Azan, knowing that this would automatically cut the Imam’s speech. But he underestimated the Imam’s bravery and intelligence. The Imam stopped his speech but did not get down from the Mimber. When the Muazzin said “ Allahu Akber” the Imam testified Allah’s greatness. When the Muazzin said, “Ash hadu anna Muhammaddan Rasulullah”, the Imam stopped the Muazzin from going any further. He then turned to Yezid and asked him.

“Tell me o Yazid, was Muhammad(pbuh&hf) your grandfather or mine? If you say he was your grandfather it will be an open lie and if you say he was my grandfather then why have you killed his son and imprisoned his family? Why have you killed my father and brought his women and children to this city as prisoners?” Yazid had no reply to give.

Yazid had to free the Imam(a.s.) out of fear of his own rulership, therefore, Imam(a.s.) was still not completely safe from his evil designs even upon reaching back to Madina. Once in Madina, Imam(a.s.) gathered the people and told them the horrifying stories of Karbala and informed them that his father Imam Hussain(a.s.) and his companions were martyred and his family members were made prisoners and were taken from one city to another and branded as traitors.
***
One of the most heart breaking stories I remember every Muharam & Safar is the story of imam al Sajjad (as) when he returned to Karbala. He had to bury the corpses of his father, his brothers (including his baby brother Ali al Asghar), his uncle, his cousins, his friends and his father’s friends… all on his own. As he was gathering the body parts of his beloved father imam Al Hussain (as), he saw a finger was cut off from him. This was done so they could steal his father’s ring! How inhuman and barbaric could one be?

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon.

Now is the time to revive it.

Well… she looks beautiful ~♡

It’s the beginning of the new Islamic year so..

Happy New Hijri Year to everyone ~♡

Note: Hijri is derived from Arabic word Hijrah, which means migration. In the religious context, it specifically refers to the migration of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) more than 14 centuries ago.

Just a thought

Here is one of the most common misunderstandings I see in people who are considering reverting to Islam:

Islam was completed in 23 years. Allah sent the Qur'an part by part and over time…one of the wisdoms behind this was that Allah wanted to change the society slowly. That is why dramatic rules such as forbidding alcohol and wearing hijab came in Madinah time which is after 13+ years of Prophecy. Most companions of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) did not know all the rules of islam at the beginning. They accepted that there is only one God and Prophet Mohammad is the final prophet. Learning the rules and practicing came after. I see most people think that you have to know everything in order to take shahadah which was not the case during Prophet’s time. Taking shahadah and learning along the way was the correct way. You cant know everything about islam and you cant digest it at once…Going slowly is crucial. However, going slowly does not mean postponing the shahadah. You believe in the shahadah, say it and learn and then start practicing.

Here is a point that might help you:

When Qur'an mentions the believers, it says:

“those who believe and do good, righteous deeds” (Asr 3)

Allah never just says: THOSE WHO BELIEVE…

Always adds after “And DO GOOD and RIGHTEOUS DEEEDS

But look at the order tho:

First Belief
Then Good deeds

This shows us that one HAS to first establish the belief and then worry about doing good deeds as salah, not sinning etc.

Here is the question for you:

Do you believe there is only one God and Prophet Mohammad is the final prophet?

If the answer to this question is YES, it mean your heart is ready to say the shahadah.

And Allah knows best

Who is Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him? من هو محمّد، صل الله عليه وسلّم؟

anonymous asked:

hi there,, why would a girl even want to be muslim, I see muslim women all the time in my city wearing all black, gloves veil headscarf, the works. why on earth would i want that for myself? for my daughter?

Hello there,

Thank you for getting in touch. You asked the million dollar question. May I change it a little bit though? “Why would a PERSON even want to be muslim” would be a better version of your question because Islam does not differentiate between men and women when it comes to faith. I am assuming you asked this question to me with a positive intention of learning, not accusing or blaming the faith of billions of people.

So here are some of the things that came to my mind:

Islam is the final version of God’s message. The same message that Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon all of them) brought. Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the final Prophet God sent to human kind. So what is this message?

Believing there is only one God!

So, what would happen if you believe in this message?

When you worship one God, you will be saved from worshiping endless Gods such as: Worshiping people, power, your desires, fame, money, etc (We can talk about this in detail later)

When you become Muslim you will find the actual REASON OF YOUR CREATION which every human being has been trying to find throughout the history:

I have not created the jinn and humankind but to (know and) worship Me (exclusively). (Holy Qur'an, adh-Dhariyat 56)

When you become Muslim you will find THE way for FULFILLMENT. A sense of happiness and fulfillment that you would never find in material things:

Be aware that it is in the remembrance of, and whole-hearted devotion to, God that hearts find rest and contentment. (Holy Qur'an, ar-R'ad 28)

When you become Muslim you will learn how to deal with DIFFICULTIES OF YOUR LIFE:

Those who, when a disaster befalls them, say, “Surely we belong to God (as His creatures and servants), and surely to Him we are bound to return. ” (And they act accordingly. ) (Holy Qur'an, al-Baqarah 156)

When you become Muslim you will have a PERSPECTIVE that will keep you calm in any situation by trusting God:

No affliction occurs on the earth (such as droughts, famines, or earthquakes), or in your own persons (such as diseases, damages to your property, or the loss of loved ones), but it is recorded in a Book before We bring it into existence doing so is surely easy for God. So that you may not grieve for what has escaped you, nor exult because of what God has granted you: God does not love anyone proud and boastful (Holy Qur'an, al-Hadid 22-23)

When you become a Muslim you will know that THIS life IS NOT it. There is AFTERLIFE coming after this. And believing in this will give you THE comfort you have never imagined before:

And the present, worldly life is nothing but a play and pastime, and better is the abode of the Hereafter for those who keep from disobedience to God in reverence for Him and piety. Will you not, then, reason and understand? (Holy Qur'an, al-An'am 32)

I can keep going but it has been a long answer already.

Oh, btw about your remarks on women’ dress style: I am a male, it is not my business to comment on how women should dress. YOUR CHOICE. The Qur'an gives a guideline about how to dress so you develop your own style, which would be YOUR CHOICE. Dressing in a certain way is not a requirement in Islam as long as you meet the requirements of the Qur'an

O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. (Holy Qur'an, al-Ahzab 59)

And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment (Holy Qur'an, an-Nur 31)

Wish you all the best,

Before judging a Muslim be fair and:
قبل أن تحكم علي أي مسلم كن محايد:
1-Listen to this person, and watch his doings.
1- أسمع منه هو شخصياً ، أستمع الي أفكاره ومعتقداته ولاحظ أفعله.
2-Compare his ideas and teachings with what is Islam and Prophet Mohammad PBUH ordered.
2-قم بمقارنة أفكاره ومعتقداته بما دعا له الإسلام.
3-If you think that his thoughts are typical to that of Islam and Prophet Mohammad PBUH, and then compare them with his doings; is he applying these teachings?
3- إذا تطابقت أفكاره ومعتقداته مع ما دعا له الإسلام فأنظر إلي أفعاله، هل هي متطابقة مع أفكاره
4-If he is applying these teachings and sayings, so for sure represents Islam, if not then he calls himself a Muslim but doesn’t represent Islam.
4- إذا كانت أفعاله تطابق أفكاره ومعتقداته فهو يمثل الإسلام، إذا كانت تتناقض فهو يدعي أنه مسلم ولكن لا يمثل الإسلام

Just a reminder

You dont have to be a specific race or ethnicity or of some background or anything to become a Muslim/Muslimah. You don’t have to have a “clean record”. You don’t need to know or be fluent in Arabic. You don’t have to know all the rules. Its not “appropriation”. Its not “disrespectful”. Islam is a universal religion. Everyone is welcomed. Ask yourself:

“Do you believe that there is only one God and Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the final Prophet?”

If the answer is yes…you are ready :) Learning and practicing will come later.

I am looking for them to tell them that I love them.

A library belonging to a Greek Orthodox priest was torched in Tripoli, Lebanon, last week, according to Agence France-Presse. Around two-thirds of the 80,000 books reportedly were destroyed. An unnamed “security source” told the news agency that the fire was started the day after “a pamphlet was discovered inside one of the books at the library that was insulting to Islam and the Prophet Mohammad [PBUH].” The priest, Father Ibrahim Sarouj, told a Lebanese newspaper that he forgives the arsonists, saying, “I am looking for them to tell them that I love them.”
