“Tina,” Graves sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. “What, in the name of God, are you doing half naked in my office?”

“Take off your clothes!” Newt yells. “Now, Tina! QUICKLY!”

“And then he ran into my wand. He ran into my wand ten times.”

“Gellert, please.”

“Are you courting me?” Graves asks, incredulous. “Do you know who I am?”

“Sir,” Tina’s voice is soft, broken. “There’s been… an accident.”

“Newt? Why is there a mermaid in the bathtub? I need to get ready for the MACUSA’s annual end of the year ceremony, Newt. Newt get that mermaid out of the bathroom. Newt.”

“If I take into account their glares and raised wands, I’d say that they want to kill you,” Graves says. Credence smiles dangerously.

“They wouldn’t be the first. Let them come. I’m not helpless anymore.”

“You are, without a doubt, the worst criminal I have ever heard of,” Seraphina muses.

“But you have heard of me.”

“Can we not do this now?”

“Yes we can and yes we will,” Newt growls. “You’ve been putting this off, again and again and I am frankly tired of you playing hide and seek like we’re five years old instead of grown adults.”

“This is a stakeout. We’re on a mission.”

“I care more about saving this relationship than the fucking mission.”

“Aren’t you supposed to do my biding?” Graves asks, incredulous.

“Not interested, thanks. However, your cat looks cute, so I think I’m gonna stick around.”

“I can’t believe you summoned a demon into our apartment, Tina. What will Mrs Esposito say?”

“He’s cute?” Tina says weakly, staring at the man-demon-thing with curly hair and freckles currently sleeping on their sofa.

He’s a demon.”

“Let go of me,” Credence snarls. “Let go of me or I swear I will kill you.”

“With what? You’re unharmed. You don’t have a wand.”

“Ahah, very funny. I didn’t know you were capable of humor, Madam President.”

Silence.

“You are joking, right?”

“You’re fired, Mr Graves.”

“Is that a phoenix?”

“Yes.”

“Why is there a phoenix flying around in the office, burning my paperwork?”

“It hatched this morning,” Newt says, cooing at the bird. “Come see mummy. Here. Good.”

“You know what I need? I need a good, old fashioned banging,” Tina slurs, taking off her shirt and stumbling around the room drunkenly until she finally falls on the bed.

“While I’m not sure who you are or what you are doing in my tent,” a British voice replies, turning on the light, “I’m sure I could help you with that.”

Tina yells.

“I’m not usually so straightforward,” Seraphina says, “but I’ll be damned if you aren’t the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever met in the entirety of my lesbian life. Can I get your number?”

The blond waitress - Queenie, her name tag reads- blushes prettily. “U-uh, I, I mean… Sure. Yeah. I won’t be able to text back until 7 though.”

“That’s fine. Holy shit.” Seraphina takes a sip and burns her tongue in the process. “Thanks for the coffee.”

‘Why won’t you answer me, Clay?’ you muttered under your breath. Since you came back from your late-night adventure you tried to reach your best friend, but he wasn’t answering. Clay always knew what to do. He was the calm one. He was always the one with a plan. With a way out. While you were surrounded with chaos. And ‘idiot’ was engraved on your forehead. As if on cue, your phone started buzzing and Clay’s name appeared on your screen.

‘Why weren’t you responding?’ you muttered. Instead of Clay, you heard other people mumbling words you couldn’t quite understand and the aggravating sound of a coffee machine in the process of making coffee which made you realise Clay was in the middle of one of his tutoring sessions at Baristas, the most popular coffee shop on campus.

Cafe Perko

Location: 753 Rue Villeray, Montréal

Metro Station: Jean Talon

Hello lovely people!!! I have finished finals and am currently in my summer semester (already, I know). I’ve been in the process of also applying to almost a 100 internship positions for Fall 2017 as a “software engineer intern”. It’s been hard. It’s been tiring. Exciting, but energy sucking. What could possibly help me in these stressful times? What could possibly fuel me up to be motivated and alert in my job application process?

You guessed it. Coffee.

I came here last weekend and it was a true refresher. My cousin drove us in this lovely spot in Villeray since she wanted to work on her writing (she’s amazing by the way, you should check out her poetry on her account @doekent ).

In contrast to other coffee shops in Montreal, I hadn’t heard of Perko too much. I had stumbled upon it on a few posts on Instagram but hadn’t noticed any hype. So why did we go? By the time she picked me up it was around 5 and almost all coffee shops close early - except Perko, which closed at 9. So we went for it. And I’m VERY glad we did.

This is how you discover hidden gems. And it is the best feeling. Stepping inside this relatively big coffee shop, I immediately noticed the one table that was open. The place was packed. We bolted for the one table. The picture I took and posted above is from right before their closing time and does not represent the amount of people that fills the cafe on their regular times.

The space was gorgeously decorated and felt almost home-like. There were cute signs and sayings all over the place. The baristas were very nice too.

I ordered a latte (obviously) and my cousin ordered a chai latte. Both were very delicious and my latte definitely fuelled me up and motivated me to continue writing my cover letters.

One thing I noticed was that there were a lot of kids and babies around. Some really loud… I wondered why there were so many babies in this one coffee shop. I got my answer when I saw that Perko had a little section for kids where they put many baby toys and couches for parents to relax on. I found it very cute and inviting for families. There were also changing tables in the bathrooms.

Another cool aspect about Perko is that it’s a student friendly coffee shop. There are many plugs, AMAZING wifi, a room you can rent (I think for 10$/hour) to study in… and they even have a PRINTER. Isn’t that unusually cool? And very nice of them? You can donate some money if you do print but they’ve made it completely free which is… amazing. And generous.

In conclusion: I got a lot of work done here. I loved the vibe of the cafe, I loved the coffee, I loved the people, I loved everything about it. I will definitely go back. And you should too!!!

Can you give me an example of eating with a 80/20 split?

Sure! What I ate today is actually a pretty good example (go me🙂). I really just think of the 80/20 balance generally, but you could also literally calculate what 20% of your daily or weekly intake goal is and then aim to keep your treats within that. Totally up to you.

80% healthy/whole/unprocessed:
Banana, pasta salad, chicken with sweet potato wedges, blueberry oatmeal cups

20% treats/processed/whatever:
Creamer in my coffee, BBQ sauce, a cookie

I ate 2000+ calories today so that actually might work out to be more like a 90/10 split, but hopefully you get the general idea!

AMBER.

Long + Short
211 Parnell Rd, Auckland, NZ

What made you fall in love with coffee?
A whole list of things. The flavour, the nostalgia associated with my childhood and my dad’s love for coffee, the vibe of being in a cafe, and the process of grabbing a coffee on the way to an 8am lecture. Ultimately it’s the excitement of making coffee that has really drawn me in. I still find it so fun.

What’s your go-to coffee preparation method?
At home it’s a V60 because it’s easy and tastes delicious (also I’m the biggest fan of soft brews). At work it’s my Moccamaster - it makes a large batch of filter coffee and you can’t argue with refills of a damn good batch brew.

Who’s the most fascinating person coffee has connected you with?
I once met an Australian theatre star - he was on tour with his show in Auckland and was wearing a giant fur hat. I can’t remember his name but he was the most flamboyant, interesting and theatrical man I’ve ever met.

Outside of making coffee, what are you passionate about?
Music, the ocean, art, adventure, film - pretty much anything and everything, I am endlessly fascinated by the world.

Where do you get your caffeine fix on your days off?
It depends on who I’m with and where I am. One of my flatmates works at Ceremony in Grafton so my friends and I often head there on a Saturday. My favourite place of all time was Good One but it’s closed now, so I can’t wait for Coffee Supreme to do something new in Auckland. I’m a big fan of Camper too.

How has being a barista impacted your work as an artist/musician?
My cafe is pretty chill so it has definitely created a place for my mind to wander and be inspired, particularly by the music we play. I’ve gotten to meet so many cool musicians and on a practical level, being a barista is my source of income to fund my own music-making.

What’s next for you?
I have no idea. Hopefully travel, more coffee and a lot more music-making - something that I can share with the rest of the world.

If you could have coffee with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Damn, this is hard. Probably Wes Anderson. Or Prince. Or both at the same time. And maybe Audrey Hepburn as well. Oh, and John Hughes who directed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which is my favourite film.
