Transitions between the Wheel
(For the four seasons)

This is from my personal practice with observing the wheel of the year and my focus on each transition between the sabbats. I honor the current seasons in between. Each transition has it’s importance to self care and managing the home and garden. I will probably add to this later cause some paragraphs I wrote I feel like are a bit vague. Some of these transitions are not meant to be 100% literal and static but I feel like they are good areas to focus on for that moment in the year.

During the thick of winter when it’s too cold to do anything and always dark, it’s the perfect moment in the year to rest. The focus is on relaxing, taking extra time to sleep and care for the body especially to not get sick.
Winter is also ‘spa’ season because the air is so dry and harsh it’s a good time to soak in hot baths and scrub away dead skin and moisturize with protective lotion. Do not try to make new plans, yet sit home, rest and reflect.

Imbolc -> Ostara

When winter thaws it’s a great time to clean the home and prepare for spring. Personally, I also like to do a body cleanse since I tend to eat a lot of processed (yet delicious ;-;) foods all year round. This also makes up for all the heavy foods I’ve been eating since Summer (all the BBQs) to Winter comfort foods. As I clean the home and get rid of stuff that has accumulated over the year, I clean the body. Also the focus is on cleaning the home as well. Breathing in the same air, especially if its full of dust, is really unhealthy and it’s good as the days are getting a little warmer to open up the windows for a few minutes to allow in fresh air to circulate. This is also the time of year I throw out old furniture, accumulated things and rearrange furniture in the room as well.

Ostara -> Beltane

Spring is a great time to germinate sprouts along with other seeds and clean the backyard or garden to grow plants. If you like to compost it’s a time to start mixing in the vegetable/fruit/plant scraps with the soil. Spring is also a great time to sow bigger changes in life as well. Something about the warm new season brings an air of flirtatiousness and ‘socialness’ that makes it perfect for making new friends or finding a partner. (Probably because people can finally come out of hibernation). It’s also a fantastic time to work on your image and portfolio and apply for long term jobs that begin in the summer or fall. Spring is the season for new beginnings and putting long term plans into action.

Beltane -> Litha

A tradition I like to do on Beltane is repotting of plants and gardening. Repotting plants is a tradition I try to focus on every year because it’s very easy for house plants to die due to dead soil. Plus it makes the inside of the house super vibrant and lively to have fresh new soil in pots. From this point to summer solstice is the point of growth. Growth in the garden but also growth of personal goals. May and June feel like hectic months where there are so many events and opportunities to advance your work or change your social scene, that if I am not personally progressing, I focus all of my attention on my growth.

Litha -> Lughnasadh

Its the heat of summer! It’s time to get out and feel the intense hot energy and use its power to focus on goals and networking! Where I am there’s usually an exciting event every week where it’s an opportunity to make more connections and meet more friends but also since its warm and nature is so vibrant it’s time to take some days to relax and get away to enjoy the heat and life of nature. Go to the beach, go hiking, swim in a lake, sleep under the stars. Be active since the efforts will pay off.

Lughnasadh -> Mabon

This is the time you earn what you’ve sowed both literally and metaphorically. If you have a garden its the time it will start giving back. If you are an active goer of a farmers market you will notice how beautifully abundant the stands are. If in Spring you’ve sent out tons of job applications, and in Summer got the job you’ve wanted and worked hard, then by now you should start seeing some results. If there are no results being seen it’s a time for reflection and re-strategizing. There is a second chance in this time to start again before the cold and the holiday season bulldozes through.

Mabon -> Samhain

This is the time to gather and harvest. Usually family tends to gather now since it’s the holiday season. There’s not much other than gathering to be done since family and holidays are bombarding you from all sides. Also there is an abundance of food. This is great to store for the next transition which is

Samhain -> Yule

This is the moment to prepare for winter. My warddrobe completely changes here, I take up knitting projects that were abandoned last Imbolc, and I store food and herbs for the winter to use. Also making preserves from things in the garden or hand knitting clothes make great presents for the winter holidays. This is also a time to prepare the garden for hibernation. Take in potted plants, harvest the last of the herbs and food (that are not potted). Make sure plants you do not want to die have a place to chill in the house.

First, there were hot tongues and meaningless moans, anger and grudges hidden behind sex. Then, there were laughter and inside jokes, fleeting kisses and warm gazes trapped in time.
Jungkook has never known love before, but if he has to define it, he’s sure that love is everything he feels for her.

for the sake of the story, BTS’s ages are ambiguous. however, 95 line are still the same age, and jungkook/reader are the same age as well. jimin and taehyung will be in their third year of college, while jungkook and the reader in their first. hoseok and namjoon are also in their last year.
the reader/female character will always just be referred to as she/her/the girl. any other female character (the reader’s roommate) will be referred to using their name (or in this case, “her roommate”).
P.P.S. if you’ve ever read the overwhelming light surrounding us, see if you can catch my little reference ;)
P.P.P.S. thanks @sydist for reading the whole thing and sorting out the plot with me, @thules for making sure the smut’s okay, and @trbld-writer for encouraging me to write this!

The winter air is colder today; Jungkook shoves his fingers into the pocket of his jeans. He quickly strides forward, breathing ragged as white mist dances before his lips; his camera slams against his chest as he breaks into a run.

He has always enjoyed winter. There’s something about the serenity of the season—a time littered with sprinkles of hope, joy, and laughter—that somehow always manages to warm his heart. His fondest memories are born during this time of year, images of a chocolate fondue, his smiling older brother, and giant Christmas presents tucked neatly into the corner of his mind.

His camera bounces as he halts abruptly, and he pushes through the doors of the coffee shop.

“Jungkookie! You’re back!”

(Not) Killing Your Darlings: Parallels Between ACD Canon and S4

I’ve slowly been working my way through a reread of the canon stories, and although I am used to finding phrases and plotlines among the stories that have been adapted within Sherlock, what surprised me towards the end of the canon is that the writers of Sherlock appear to be adapting the way the stories are written, as well. We’ve talked a lot about the idea that Mofftiss have Reichenbached the show in Series 4, but I’m beginning to think they have Case-booked it (and His Last Bowed it, a little, too). This will probably sound grim at first, but I remain an optimist when it comes to Sherlock, so bear with me. These are Princess Bride “pit of despair” times; I figure if we have to be here, we may as well look around.

As a quick reminder, Doyle published the short stories as:

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1892)
The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1894)
The Return of Sherlock Holmes (1905)
His Last Bow (1917)
The Case-book of Sherlock Holmes (1927)

I’m going to start at the end of His Last Bow and the later stories, because they best parallel Series 4, then look back very briefly.

Breaking the fourth wall

His Last Bow breaks the pattern of the Sherlock Holmes story collections in a few ways. It begins with a brief preface written by John H. Watson; he addresses the reader directly to explain that he and Holmes are still living, though ageing:

”The friends of Mr Sherlock Holmes will be glad to learn that he is still alive and well, though somewhat crippled by occasional attacks of rheumatism… Several previous experiences which have lain long in my portfolio, have been added to ‘His Last Bow’ so as to complete the volume.” (His Last Bow, preface)

… lots more under the cut.

The youthful face of the CEO stood out amongst the wrinkled frowns of everyone else in the room. You tried not to stare, or at least not let him notice you were staring. You had been working for this corporation for 3 months but you still hadn’t gotten used to the idea that Namjoon was your boss. Granted, there weren’t many CEO’s in their 20’s anyway.

But he was handsome. His dirty blonde hair always sat messily upon his head. Thick black framed glasses sat perfectly on his face while two dimples frame the sides of his perfect lips. Not that you had notice his perfect lips to begin with. Namjoon was your boss, a mantra that you had to remind yourself on a daily basis because if it weren’t for that then you would certainly be wanting to get him in the supply closet. But Namjoon was your boss.

Taking a deep breath, you started your presentation. It seemed like all the knowledge your fancy degree had given you went out the window as soon as you started to speak. You weren’t even sure if it was english, but before you knew it you had reached the last slide. Silence filled the room as the men in suits took in the last of your words. “Any questions?” you asked.

There was no response. Just pairs of empty eyes staring back at you. The overwhelming feeling of failure creeped into your bones as you stood awkwardly in place, unsure of what to do. Finally, the grumpiest of all the men raised an eyebrow and started to speak, “How is this relevant to our company? The ideas you are proposing are very provocative, but we don’t run the business this way. It seems a little out of reach, don’t you think?”

Amelia (Part 1 of 3)

Pairing: Lin-Manuel x Reader

Summary: You technically met Amy first.

Note: Untitled Garbage Mystery Fic is no longer Untitled or a Mystery!

Okay, so this was initially gonna be a small thing and then it kinda got away from me so it’s a slightly less small thing? I basically needed to write something that wasn’t academic for once in my life and then this happened (with a great deal of help from @fragmentofmymind who is the greatest and listens to me every time I hit a metaphorical writing speed bump)

It’s far from the best thing I’ve ever written but I’ve had fun in this universe so far (and hope you do too). Thanks for being patient with me, my dudes. I LOVE YOU LOTS.

Word Count: 11,336 (shout out to slow burn lmao)

There’s a quiet power in wielding a camera, a strength in the ability to either capture the world in its purest truth or manipulate it into something brand new. You had learned this at a young age, stealing your grandmother’s Polaroid camera and discovering how different the image you could create would look in different types of light and more or less motion, even if you didn’t fully understand why it worked the way that it did.

It became a part of you, filling your heart with a curiosity for telling stories through images. The photo you caught of your mother as she laughed quietly to herself in the kitchen, a snapshot of your best friend right at the moment she caught you taking it, a poorly framed photo you accidentally took of yourself while trying to change the roll of film.

It was all magical to you, and it never really stopped feeling like you’d tricked the universe into allowing such beauty to exist every time you snapped a one-of-a-kind photograph.

A camera is built out of complicated technology. The mechanics of focus and aperture, f-stops and shutter speed were more than science and math to you–they were your doorway into a new world, the look of which you got to decide.

Your hands felt most comfortable when stabilizing a camera, your eye most at home behind a viewfinder, your fingers their most graceful as you pulled focus to a new subject–

“Are you even listening to me?”

Part 1: Parties

I looked across the lush grounds of Prythian University, my cotton robe tucked tightly around the curves of my figure, and I sighed at the wonderfully gorgeous campus that swept across my view. Students walked along, talking together, backpacks strung over their shoulders and heavy books bound to their arms. Autumn kissed the trees that dotted the grounds, leaves collecting within the tracks of students’ footprints. The fall air caressed my skin blissfully and I closed my eyes.

It had been 6 months since I’d moved into Spring House. The six happiest months of my existence, probably.

Summary: Taehyung plucks up the courage to finally confess (college!au)

“I’m gonna do it.”

Jungkook nonchalantly lifts his eyes to look at Taehyung, who’s just slammed his hand on the table in front of them, determination covering every inch of his face.

“Do what?” Jungkook asks, slightly disinterested, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms over his chest, peeved at the way he’s been disturbed.

“I’m gonna tell _____ I like her.”

There’s a beat of silence before the younger bursts out laughing, heads turning towards the source of the loud raucous in the busy campus cafeteria. Taehyung watches with an unchanging expression as Jungkook wipes tears from his eyes while he struggles to catch his breath.

“You’re joking,” Jungkook says, breathless; when he sees the look on the elder’s face, his laughter dies down, face morphing into an expression of surprise. “Oh. You’re not joking.”

“Why would I joke about that?” Taehyung asks, reaching across to pick up a bunch of fries off of Jungkook’s plate; Jungkook is too shocked to even care.

“You can’t be serious, hyung.” He scoffs when he’s given no reply. “You’ve barely spoken to her. The last time you did talk to her, you said some crazy nonsense about rabbits on the moon.”

“But she actually listened to my explanation about why I think there are rabbits on the moon. Unlike you.”

“She’s Yoongi hyung’s little sister, in case you’d forgotten that small, but vital, piece of information.”

“That doesn’t bother me.”

“It should.”

“But it doesn’t.”

“I can’t believe you’re the older one,” Jungkook sighs, scratching his head with frustration. “Fine. Fine. Do whatever you wanna do. Just let me know what music you want me to play at your funeral so I can get to work on sorting out a playlist.”

A Familiar Face

Klaroline Infinity Day 7 - Ideal Endgame Scene

A year, a century, what was time to an immortal? For Caroline, forty years meant love, laughter, fear and grief. With her daughters grown, she’s ready to stop playing it safe and to go looking for the adventures the world once promised.

She had forgotten how lonely it could be, the fate of a vampire. At home, the girls knew exactly who she was and what that meant - but they couldn’t possibly understand the weight of outliving such a phase in her life. Humans went through a handful of these complete shifts, but Caroline was realizing she would have to do this over and over again until she met the wrong end of a pointy stick.

Having buried both Stefan and Alaric years before and signed the Bennett School over to Josie and Lizzie, Caroline decided to take a well deserved retirement trip around the world for her sixty-fifth birthday. She had left a week earlier, kissing the girls at the airport. “I love you, call me every day.”

“Every week,” Josie promised sternly, onlookers probably confused to see a young woman asking her mother to call every day.

Because Caroline didn’t look her nearly sixty-five years; she didn’t look a day over seventeen, and she never would. It was a realization that came in waves, one that hit her again as she flew over the Atlantic to South Africa. The list of postcards and souvenirs she had planned to buy was much too short for someone of her age, but everyone had died or moved on with their very human lives.

The girls, obviously, would receive the brunt of her gifts. Matt never cared for her messages, and Elena didn’t even know who Caroline was anymore. Some of the school’s students kept in touch, but it wasn’t the same.

She was always missing the people she loved, and she wanted someone to miss her.

Shaking her head, Caroline glanced around the plane to distract herself from the morose thoughts. Brass curls caught her attention, but she turned to her book before she could let herself wonder why.

Ice Dancing (Jimin, OC) Part 3

“Hey kiddo, time to wake up.”

Jimin ruffled his younger brother’s flop of brown hair and patted his cheek gently. The latter groaned in complaint and tried to swat his hand away; quite ungracefully as it didn’t even touch his older brother’s hand with how he was practically still half asleep.

Jimin chuckled at Jacob's—or Jay as what he’s called—attempt before shaking him a little more forcefully, causing the younger to whine in protest.

“Okay… hyung! I’m awake. Stop—“

"Are you sure? Do I need to flip you off this bed?”

Jay glared at his brother. “You’re mean.”

Jimin smirked. “You know I’m not.”

“You’re right. Tae Tae hyung said you’re evil.”

“And you believe him?”

“He says Santa really exists and that it was scientifically proven that he lives in the North Pole. Yup, Tae Tae hyung is smart!” The kid smiled lazily as he tried to keep his eyes open.

Jimin sighed amusedly before pulling the curtains aside to let in some light. It was the blue hour, just at the brink of sunrise and Jimin couldn’t really blame his brother for having a hard time waking up.

“Yeah… I think we need to stop hanging out with Taehyung too often.”

“That’s what he told me about you!” Jay said which made Jimin chuckle, knowing Taehyung would actually really say that to try and steal his little brother away.

“Oh yeah? But you have to admit… Hyung is cooler than Tae Tae hyung right?” Jimin said as he helped the eight-year old out of his bed and pulled him onto his feet.

There was a moment of silence.

“Are you actually thinking about this?” Jimin asked incredulously which made Jay laugh. “Why you little—“

The little boy squealed as Jimin initiated a tickle fight, attacking his sides which Jimin knew was his most vulnerable spot. Right there, Jimin forgot his problems momentarily; with the whole skating and ‘save my career’ fiasco that’s currently keeping him up at night.

With Jay, he could just be himself and not have to put up his "champion-athlete” front.

It was a few years ago when their parents passed of a terrible accident. Jimin, who was only sixteen then, was already a competitive skater in the juniors division while Jay was merely three-years-old.

Jay was so young when he was left under Jimin’s care and the older was terrified to death when he thought he would be taken away from him considering they were still both minors. But Seokjin, their amazing and most beloved cousin, had come in and took them under his wing for a few years until Jimin was old enough to take care of Jacob on his own.

With Jimin’s success in his skating career, he was able to do just that: provide a home for the both of them and even support his schooling. Jimin was basically a parent at what’s supposed to be the prime of his youth. Though he never saw it as a downside.

In fact, he didn’t mind it at all. He would rather take care of his brother than do all those things kids his age usually do: like partying or dating.

Jimin would do anything to keep his little brother with him. The only family they got was each other, after all.

He listened with a smile as Jay talked animatedly about his camping trip this weekend. They had gotten up extra early today since the bus would leave at 6 A.M. which should take them up north to a wilderness reserve. Jimin was against it at first, not wanting to have Jay so far from him but after much pleading from his little brother and assurances from his teachers that they would be completely safe, Jimin gave in and thought what kind of a brother would he be if he didn’t let him go out and explore?

He just hoped there weren’t any bears in that place.

“When you get there I want you to send me a text, okay?” Jimin said as they pulled over at the front of the school. “I know there might not be signal in the woods but before you actually go in, please let me know—”

“Yes, hyung.“ Jay huffed while rolling his eyes. Jimin had been talking nonstop during the drive even though he probably gave him the whole safety speech for the hundredth time that week. "I know I know, you even told Mr. Brown about it remember?”

Jimin sighed as he pulled out his camping bag from the trunk. He caught one of the parents looking at his car and smiled inwardly. His BMW has always been a sight for sore eyes.

“Just be careful okay?” Jimin said as he placed the hat over the little boy’s head and helped him wear his backpack.

“It’s two nights hyung.” Jay rolled his eyes and Jimin wondered if Taehyung taught him to sass like that. “The worse that could happen is that I forget to brings insect repellant.”

“You did?!”

“No. you packed it yourself remember? And a spare too on my other bag.” Jay reminded him and Jimin sighed in relief. “I’ll be back before Monday!“

"I mean it, Jay. Behave.” Jimin said before pulling him in for a bone-crushing hug. “Love you.”

“I—I can’t breathe—"

“That’s not the reply I was looking for~” Jimin teased as he hugged him tighter.

“Okay I love you too hyung—can you please let go?”

Jimin chuckled and let go eventually, patting his back. “Have fun.”

Jay tipped his hat before jogging towards the bus where the other kids were. Jimin watched him go and was surprised when just before he boarded the bus, his little brother looked back and waved goodbye with the brightest smile on his face and somehow that made Jimin feel a lot less worried knowing his brother was going to have a blast.

You're so talented and lucky to be in so many zines Andy! You wouldn't have any tips on finding and getting into zines? Always been a dream to be in one~

Oh! Well, thank you very much for your kind words! I got extremely lucky in a lot of cases, but that itself comes from throwing yourself out there and hoping the right person will see your work lol

For finding projects…there are a couple of blogs dedicated to these things like zinesubmissions and zine-scene, but sometimes you have to be on meerkat alert and just catch an application post on your feed! It might also help to search specific fandom or character/pairing tags if those are the sorts of things you’re after. Make sure your moderator seems to know what they’re doing, though - whilst the number of zines has definitely exploded in the past couple years (which is awesome!), it also means there are a lot of people who don’t have much experience and may screw you over with poor management/not compensating you properly. So be mindful! Don’t be afraid to ask questions and if your mod doesn’t seem to be transparent or have a clear plan, probably best to avoid it and find something better.

As for getting in, I can’t really help too much with that because like anyone I get rejections too! Though I can’t stress enough - firstly, you NEED to have existing zine standard artwork (or writing, if you’re a writer!) if you want a curator to even consider you in the first place. If you haven’t got any, make some. Do some full colour, page-format illustrations that showcase your ability to compose an image, your eye for colour, your ability to render things to a polished level, your ability to draw characters not just standing around but to tell a story or narrative. Try backgrounds (I’m still very guilty of avoiding them), or at least have some context to your image - don’t just draw someone standing around in blank white space without it being purposeful. I CANNOT emphasize how important this is - like, you can’t apply for something expecting to be accepted without proving you’re able to do what’s going to be required of you as an artist! I’m saying this as a curator and trust me, pretty much every other curator will say the same thing.
When you’ve got a few good examples, lump them together in another art tag or create a separate portfolio site for easy viewing if you post lots of silly sketches/doodles too (like me haha).

Next step is to…apply for as much as you can! You’re not going to make it into everything and honestly at this point rejection doesn’t bother me in the slightest anymore. Don’t get disheartened too fast! (And do NOT bitch/whine/complain publicly or take it personally if you don’t make it into something, that’s extremely petty). You may find that once you’ve done 1 or 2 projects you’ll find it easier to get into others because people will know you’ve been able to deliver, and weirdly I find myself in the same books as lots of people I did stuff with previously or friends/mutuals of mine! You’ll find opportunities start coming your way once you get a foot in, I think, because friends will message me if they find something cool and we’ll sign up together etc.

ALSO this is kinda obvious but…be polite/pleasant to work with! If you can’t follow basic formatting instructions or are rude/uncommunicative, it’s going to come back to bite you one day. If you deliver well, you’ll be remembered for the right reasons and vice versa (so watch out…the online art community can be small in many ways).

Finally, if nothing comes up you could always try making your own! Nothing is stopping you! Gather some friends and make a small book to get going. It’s tough but also very rewarding and you’ll have something to be proud of. 👌

ANYWAY! I am so sorry for my small essay! Again, I’m just a small fry who draws for fun, but I’ve been doing zines for 4 years and have run a few of my own so hopefully you’ll find this at least a bit helpful but I’m no expert obviously. Good luck with everything! Maybe one day we will be in something together which would be cool! 😎💪🏼🌟

First tattoo advices

One of the asks I get more often is about how to approach tattoos for the first time. What to have, where, from who, what to expect,  how to deal with the artists and more, a lot of people are still a bit scared and confused from the whole tattoo thing. Most of the time their asks can have no answer, since things like subjects, placement, paint tolerance etc. are all pretty personal. But I’ll try to put down some guidelines, mixed with personal experiences, that will hopefully help makes things less stressfull and confused at least for someone.

(pic: Rodrigo Souto at work. Black outlines are usually tattooed first, then the black shading. Colors cames last. )

Is it the right time for it?
Usually, if you are underage, you can’t get tattooed without parents permission. I suppose it changes from one country to another, depending on the laws. Legal or not, getting a tattoo when you are still really young will reveal a bad idea most of the times. Even if you get tattooed from a pro, even if your tattoos looks good, there’s a high probability your taste will change soon, and so will your life priorities.
At 14 I was impressed from Clooney’s tattoos in From Dusk Till Dawn. I was convinced a tribal bodysuit was a badass option. Then, a few times later, I thought  Tom Gugliotta’s (what was I thinking? He wasn’t even that good as a player… :D) barbed wire armband was really cool too. At eighteen I though that let an apprentice tattooer I knew doing both my arms in his kitchen for a hundred bucks was a great idea. None of that happened, lucky me. Times were different, there was no internet (I mean of course there was, but it wasn’t like it is now), the only chance to know something about tattoos were through the magazines. I had my first tattoo at 24. A bit late, I know, I’m not suggesting you to wait that much. But still, even if I had it from a really good artist and still looks good, it’s not in the style I’m into now.

Will your tattoos affect your social interactions and your career? Yes and no. The older you are, the more you know about how you’ll live your life. But being tattooed brings no more the prejudices it used to. People are slowly getting used to them. I mean, if you want to run a bank, a face tattoo will probably be still an obstacle. But if you live in a big city, probably no one will ever stare at you for a small tattoo on your arm. My first tattoo was on my shoulder/chest, it doesn’t show even if I’m wearing a t-shirt. I went for an easy to hide area mostly to show my parents how wise and focused on the future I was. It wasn’t true, of course, but it helped. ;)

Ok, so just pretend you are old and wise enough for a tattoo. Where do you start?

(pic: Portrait from Dan Molloy. If you want one, be sure to bring a reference pic that is big enough to show all the details your artist will need)

Chosing the right artist
What style are you into? It can be hard to decide at first, but the more you look at good tattoos, the more your taste for them will be defined. This can probably help too. And then you have to find the right artist.
If you want to get tattooed, no doubt this will be the biggest challenge, and probably the most important. This choice will affect not only the final result, but the whole experience. A good artist, in a safe, positive environment, will make the whole journey something you’ll like to remember.

How do you know an artist is the one? It’s hard to say. Your taste, your knowledge, needs to be trained, a lot, to be able to tell a good artist from a mediocre one. I’ve “studied” this things for years. my nerd side definitely helped, and now a few pics of someone’s works are enough for me to know if an artist is someone to consider o not. Drawing skills are a good start, but I look for someone with good taste for colors, compositions, visual art in general. Roses are usually a good test. Or woman faces. If you want to find someone good, be prepared to go through tons of crappy portfolios. Or you can drop me a line, it can be helpful too. ;)

(pic: Dane Mancini tattooing free hand. Sometime the artists can draw the whole design (or a few details of it) on the skin with a marker, following their ceativity)

The subjects and the placement
I get a lot of asks about what to get tattooed too. No one can tell you what you should wear on your skin. Look for good art, and just get inspired. And then a good artist will help you to turn your ideas into something pleasant to look and to wear.

Let’s skip fast the “should I bring the design?” part. The answer is a big no. Even if you are amazing at drawing. Even if it does have a deep meaning for you cause your best friend draws it. No. Tattoo designs are different from drawings for a ton of reasons. Let tattoo artists do their job.

When you are considering a subject, don’t fill the concept with too much stuff. I mean, you want a ship, and a lighthouse, and an anchor, and a rose. It’s already more than you need. Don’t ask the artist to add a dagger, and a dog, and your grandma’s name, and your first bike, all on the same design. The less you put into it, the more he/she will have the creative space to create something great. If you want a text, please reconsider it. And read this first.

And please, forget all the tv shows shit about how everything you get tattooed must have a sad story, a deep meaning behind it, how every detail must be symbolic and represent something.
Like if you want a rose, and you love your family, you don’t need a single petal for each brother/sister/cousin/dog. Just have a good looking, damn rose. The meaning behind it will be as strong as your intention, no matter what.

You have a sad/positive reason to get tattoed? Great. You don’t? Who cares. Tattoos looks great, and this is the only reason you need. ;)

Book for it.
If the shop is close to you, go talk them in person. Someone will take care of you. A phone call is a good idea too. Or send the shop an email. Messages on facebook are usually a bad way to get in contact with them. If you still get no answer after a reasonable time, keep trying, don’t be afraid to insist.
Sooner or later, you’ll talk with the artist. Tell him/her what you want, the mood you want your piece to have, what you would like him/her to include, what you like from his/her past works. You can bring references, if you think it would help. Bringing pics of other people’s tattoos as a reference is ok, until you just use them to explain what you want. Asking to copy someone alse’s tattoo is wrong, unethical and pretty lame.

Be prepared to tell them about size and placement. It’s ok to have clear in mind what you want, but when an artist suggest you to change something, is usually for a reason, so try to be open minded about it. Some tattoos can be completed on a single session, some will need more. You need to heal completely, before the artist can continue to work on it, so be prepared to wait at least a few weeks before you can have a new session.
Some artist will send a sketch to you days before your appointment, to check if you are ok with it. But it’s not rare to see them finish it while you are already at the shop to get tattooed. Yes, even if you booked for it months before. If you don’t like the design, just ask the artist to change it. But don’t forget they are already working for you, and don’t forget to be respectful.

(pic: Stu Padgin’s print. Go through the artists’ sketchbook if you have the chance to. They usually have tons of great designs still available)

Be ready for it.
If you have done everything as you should, you have nothing to fear about. Protect your skin from sun, a tanned, burned skin can’t be tattooed. Eat something before to start, bring something to drink, but stay away from alcohol from 24h at least. It would cause your blood vessels to dilate, and the tattoo to bleed more. The blood would make harder for the artist to work and to get the ink going deep enough to stay. Bring a friend to the shop with you only if ou really need too (you won’t, trust me), and never more than one. You want your artist to be confortable and focused while is working on you. From now on, it’s up to him/her.

“Does it hurt?”

Yes, it does. How much? It’s impossible to say. Some areas are usually more painful than others, but it depends on your skin, your muscolar conformation, your pain tolerance. Usually, it’s always a pain you can tolerate. Try to focus on your breath, and keep your body relaxed. The less you shake, the easiest will be for the artist to do his/her job. If you need a break, just ask for it.

If the pain is a serious issue for you, just don’t let it be your only concern while you are considering the placement. Of course, starting from your ribs it’s probably not a great idea, but classics spot like arms, legs, or shoulders are good under both the aesthetical and pain aspects. Even if you want a sleeve, you don’t need to plan it from the beginning. If you are not sure of how your body will react, just start with something smaller, and on a less sensitive spot.

In short:

1 - Be sure a tattoo it’s what you want, Consider your lifestile, and the one you wish to have. Keep in mind you’ll need money for it, and it will be painful. Be aware of all the negative and the positive a tattoo will bring in your life. There is nothing to be ashamed of in starting with something small, or on a hidden area, if you need to.

2 -  Don’t go for a cheap one. A tattoo it’s a life committment, and you deserve the best you can have, even if it will take time to find it. Search, get informed, define your taste. And then book with the best.

3 -  Let the artist do his/her job, but still be part of the process. Talk to your artist, let him/her involve you in the creation of your piece. Your tattoo will be meaningful and unique.

4 - Be prepared to the pain, but don’t let it scare you. Be conscious but relaxed and confident. Trust your ability to overcome pain, understand that it’s part of the process, and enjoy the experience for what it is.

5 - Take care of your skin and tattoos! Follow your artist’s instruction, keep it clean, and don’t be afraid to ask the shop for help if you think something is not as it should.

And that’s it, I think. Don’t be afraid.It’s always worth it. ;)

When Jeff took the job with the Aces, he knew nothing about hockey beyond what he read on their Wikipedia page ten minutes before the interview.

It had been a stroke of good luck that he happened to know a friend of a friend that got somehow got his portfolio on the desk of someone important with the hockey team. The next thing he knew getting offered a job with the PR team that paid three times more than what what the newspaper could offer him.

So, Jeff moved out to Las Vegas with barely any time to pack up his belongings, and the next day, he was finishing up the last of the paper work. After the morning of grueling meetings, Jeff went to go see the team on the ice. He wanted to practice getting a few shots to get an idea of how he was going to photograph them during games. He did know how to get a good photo while the athletes were in motion, but he’d never done hockey before.

Jeff watched for a bit from the stands. The plays they were practicing were beyond his understanding, but it was fascinating to watch them skate with an unexpected grace as they chased after the puck. He got a couple of shots in and decided that they weren’t bad.

At the end of practice, Jeff started to pack up his camera when he realized that one of the guys had come up to him. The guy was still in his gear, though the helmet was tucked under an arm. His wild, blond hair was damp from sweat and pushed back carelessly. Jeff immediately recognized him as the captain, Parson.

“I don’t think I’ve seen you around here before,” Parson said thoughtfully as he assessed Jeff.

“I’m new,” he explained after he’d introduced himself.

“I know.“ Parson’s tone was innocent, but the look in his eyes suggested otherwise. “I would have noticed you.”

Jeff, for a brief moment, thought he’d misheard, but Parson smirked, and that was when Jeff knew he was in trouble.

So general advice haha

“I saw your recent post! Do you have any advice for those wanting to submit a portfolio themselves?”

I’m going to start out and say that I’m not an expert and a lot of this stuff I’m spouting is advice I’ve gotten from other sheridan/calarts students, my mentors, and personal experience. (THIS IS GONNA BE ONE HELL OF A DOOZY POST I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS HEAVY READING AND TYPOS)

Animation: Tadashi x Reader

You watch the recorded video on your cell phone for thehundredth time, for some reason hoping for a better outcome.  However, just like before, the jerk that had been standing in front of you at the time that you filmed this, steps in front of your camera, and completely blocks off what you had been filming.  With an irritated huff, you press the button to turn off the screen of your phone and toss it onto the table.  You pull out your ear buds as well; the soft buzzing that fills the café now entering your ears.  You sigh tiredly and rub your forehead.

You pick up your drawing notebook and flip through the first several pages.  Going through it fast enough, you can see the animation piece come to life.  However, it doesn’t last very long, before the pages become blank.  You only have about a quarter of the notebook filled and you only have two more weeks to fill the rest of it.  Unfortunately for you, the only reference you have for the object you’re using in your animation project is that crappy quality video on your phone.

“Are you alright?” you hear a friendly, male voice ask.

Looking up, you blush slightly when you see it’s the cute boy that sometimes works at the café. You’re pretty sure you’ve heard him be called Tadashi, but you’ve never actually met him, not counting the few times you smiled at him in passing.  “Oh! Uh, yes. I’m fine, just a little frustrated, I guess,” you respond, flustered that he’s actually talking to you.

anonymous asked:

Can you do a "If ____ was a college student" kind of thing if/when you have time? :)

oohhh i love college aus

i’ll just compress this into one post to save time haha

pls note that i’m not in college yet so some stuff might not be accurate and might not actually happen in college haha

S.Coups would be that popular sports major. He gets invited at every party and almost everyone, whether drunk or not, would be eyeing him because he looks so good. He studies hard tho like he makes sure he completes his notes before anything else (even though hangovers are the worst and he has to drag himself out of bed for his 10 am classes). An actual sweetheart if you look past the slightly cocky exterior.

Jeonghan is a literature major that has the whole campus head over heels for him. Whenever he’s walking from one class to the other, people would always come up to greet him and he’d greet back with a bright smile. He’s usually unaware of all the flirting tho so he goes about his daily life as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Probably owns a really nice car that his parents gave him as a going-away gift.

Joshua is known as that good boy who rarely drinks at parties and always has time to go to the gym seriously who even has time to go to the gym anymore? Business major who everyone likes. He plays his guitar and sings inside his dorm room and little does he know that everyone on his floor is standing outside of his door, listening to his voice. He probably gets asked to sing at parties a lot and he’s too sweet to refuse.

Jun is a theatre major who everyone just adores because he’s really handsome and acts well. He’s often designated to bring the booze to parties. Is definitely a huge flirt and always ends up making out with someone inside the bathroom. Can also be seen napping at random places around the campus. He probably sucks up to his professors a lot so he can pass his requirements a little later than everyone else.

Hoshi is that dance major that is like a fucking siren everywhere he goes. Like literally you could hear him from a mile away, together with his roommate Seokmin. Everyone likes him because he’s the life of the party and he seems to have this cheerful vibe to him. He stays up really late to work on his choreography for his final practical test. Also comes to class with a huge-ass tumbler of coffee and a bagel.

Wonwoo is an art major who seems really dark and brooding at first but he’s actually really nice. His art is A++ and people are amazed at how good he is. He’s also part of the soccer team. He skates around campus with headphones stuck in his ears and his bag slung over one shoulder and people are like immediately drawn in with his rebellious appearance.

Woozi is a music production and engineering major who literally lives off of coffee. He looks like he could throw punches at anyone who comes near him so most people steer clear. He looks stressed and tired 24/7 but honestly he’s grown accustomed to the demands of his classes, it’s just that his face is now permanently fucked up he’s still very cute tho. Doesn’t have a lot of friends but would attend a party if it meant drinking and leaving behind his schoolwork for a few hours.

DK is roommates with Hoshi and is an education major. His smile could brighten up even the most stressed out students’ day and he’s considered as the actual personification of the sun. Randomly brings in food for everyone in his class. He and Hoshi are almost always causing trouble but they don’t care because it entertains people and they’re all about that.

Mingyu is an advertising major who uses his knack for drawing to make great designs for his ad portfolios. Honestly, people are amazed at how fast he can doodle. He seems like that student who doesn’t really care about anything and who’s just here to party but he surprises everyone by getting high marks on his finals. He’s probably that guy who dances on tables during parties and ends up knocked out on the couch the next day.

The8 is a psychology major, which seems fitting because he’d rather sit back and observe his surroundings. He spends most of his free time sitting outside while reading a book and people are so captivated by him because ‘wow he looks like such an innocent angel-puppy hybrid how can someone be that adorable’. He’s on the cheerleading squad though and he often blows people away with his badass flips and dancing.

Seungkwan is a pre-med student who everyone likes because he’s funny and is always sassing his professors back. People are amazed at how he manages to stay cheerful despite having a heavier work load with his pre-med classes and all but he just goes ‘well i can’t afford to look stressed eyebags and wrinkles are a no-no’. He’s actually very keen on helping people in any way he can because he was taught by his mother to be selfless.

Vernon is a film major who everyone thinks is high 90% of the time. He’s not though, he’s just really deep in thought lmao. He’s also best friends with Seungkwan. (How that happened, nobody really knows). He’s really passionate about his filmmaking and he’s always in the library reading up on theories about film and film techniques and the history of film. He’s usually reserved but Seungkwan often drags him out to parties and introduces him to people.

Dino is a broadcast communications major who’s studying to become a DJ. He’s actually already a DJ at the college radio and because of his energetic persona, he’s instantly a favorite of his listeners. He’s young, but this doesn’t stop him from working hard as seen by the many sleepless nights he spends in the booth, making the perfect mix for his shift the next day. And yes, he’s always being invited to DJ at parties.

anonymousstonerchick  asked:

Erica, how did you get your start? And how did you end up working with Justin and Dan? If you don't mind me asking

I can’t remember if I’ve ever told this story or not, so HERE WE GO (this is long).

So, in 2011, during my Junior year of college (SCAD), I obtained an internship at Nickelodeon. I flew out to LA for 4 months, met a bunch of awesome people, and flew back to continue my schooling. I kept in touch with a lot of my fellow “Nickterns,” and after graduating, reached out to them to see if anybody was living in LA and had a couch I could crash on while looking for a job. My friend Alexis graciously opened her doors to me, so I flew out and moved in with her.

I got a job at the local Starbucks to pay the bills and I spent pretty much every day online emailing and applying for boarding jobs. For a little while, I was able to do some freelance storyboarding for an advertising agent. Random commercials here and there. It wasn’t what I wanted to be doing, but it was experience, and stuff to put in my portfolio. I continued applying, and after about 5 months of being in LA, Alexis told me about an alumni email she received from UCLA telling her that a place called Starburns Industries was hiring for a new show called “Rick and Morty.” No one had ever heard of either, but I didn’t care, as I was in no place to be picky, and once I saw Dan Harmon’s name attached, as well as the “guy who voices Lemongrab,” I knew it was probably legit. I sent my resume and portfolio.

About a week later, I got an email reply saying that they liked my work and wanted to give me a storyboard test. I was pumped! They sent over the pilot for me to watch, designs, and script for the test. I had a week to complete it. I sent it back to them, and soon after, got an email saying that they loved my test, and asked me to come in for an interview. I went in and met with the supervising director, Pete Michels. Everyone there was so nice, but I was so, so nervous. When I left, I knew that I wanted it more than anything.

The wait was awful. I’m sure it was only a few weeks, but it felt like years. Then one day, I got a call from the producer, Mike Mendel. He said they were all onboard and deadpan asked me why no one had hired me yet. I said I didn’t know. Haha. He then said that he was nervous to give me a storyboarding position outright, since it was my first job, but asked if I’d be interested in taking a storyboard revisionist position. I said yes, of course!! I couldn’t believe it. He then said that I’d have to meet and talk to Justin Roiland before it was finalized. I went, met Justin, we got along great, and that was that! A couple weeks later, I had my first real animation job: Rick and Morty season 1.
