probably my most favorite scene in the whole series... it was perfect

(for @yoituuri and @starryfeathers. I accidentally deleted this whole thing once so hopefully it doesn’t happen again/ it’s not rushed. I hope you enjoy you two, and anybody else who reads this!)

I made a post about my favorite boy Victor not too long ago, and I mentioned a shot in passing that I really loved, but because it wasn’t the focus of the post, I didn’t go into it. I would like to now. Here it is:

This is the first glimpse of Victor we get within canon. Well, beyond the opening sequence with Yuuri watching Victor skate as they grow up but I think we can all agree that was outside of canon and can be discarded here.

Anyway.

It’s a damn good first glimpse. As you’ve probably already noticed, Victor’s eyes are covered. Deliberately. Dude fuckin does a twirl and the camera is framed in such a way that we don’t get to see his eyes until he looks up for the cameras. That’s an interesting touch, for several reasons.

First, when a character’s eyes are not visible, it implies something is hidden within them. A trait, motivation, true emotions, etc etc.

Secondly, the fact that we can’t see Victor’s eyes until he turns to the cameras with that fake-ass media smile. In this scene, we’re being treated as the public. Victor is immediately hiding from us and the rest of the world. You know, something he does all the goddamn time.

Victor is scarily good at masking. For those who don’t know what I mean, masking is the act of hiding one’s true personality, desires, and/or emotions to conform to society. I mask due to past trauma. Victor masks to meet public expectation.

You’ve probably guessed already that masking is incredibly unhealthy–it’s repression, after all. If it gets bad enough, you’ll stop knowing where masking ends and you begin. Sometimes it takes me months to figure out how I feel about something because I need to sort through so many layers of masking and anxiety and doubt. It’s really difficult sometimes.

We see tons of lovely examples of Victor masking throughout the show. Here are a few off the top of my head:

(^absolutely terrified vitya trying to be smooth)

(^living up to his press image)

(^so incredibly upset on so many levels but he doesn’t dare show it)

(^pissed enough that yuuri picks up on it. and then acts dishonestly w/ yuuri by trying to come off as pleasant)

(i love that yuuri is comfortable enough by this point to call victor out on his bs. if you’re gonna get mad, get mad)

(you can actually see Victor’s hand shake if you watch the scene. boy is so pissed and he’s holding it in)

etc etc.

Victor is actually incredibly reserved in all the emotions he shows, especially if it’s anger or sadness. For most of the series, he only lets himself go in front of Yuuri or alone. Victor hides from himself, he hides from Yuuri, and it helps no one in the end.

The beach sequence, actually, is important to this idea too. As we know, Victor asks Yuuri what he wants them to be.

And then he lists off all these options before essentially asking to go out with him, but in a way that says he’s too scared to do it outright.

Now, this is partially to gauge Yuuri’s feelings towards him, but it’s also highly revealing of Victor’s self-worth. He’s willing to put on any mask, any persona to be with Yuuri. Yuuri, of course, doesn’t want this at all.

🚨 HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP ALERT!🚨

And looking at Victor’s reaction (guarded surprise)

This may be the first time Victor has been asked to just be himself.

So if Victor was a world champion at 16

(boy is 15-16 in that article)

He must have been skating for a while beforehand. We can probably approximate by saying he started competitions around the time Yuri did, which I estimate to be about 12-13. However, Victor does say this

And if we’re to believe him, 27-20=7, and therefore something happened at the age of 7 to force Victor into backing away from others and working himself to the bone. Uhm, wow. I don’t know how accurate it is to say that, but regardless, he’s been in the public eye for a long fuckin time.

Victor has spent this long fuckin time building an image: elegance, confidence, charming yet untouchable. The perfect playboy, in a way. This is the person he presents to the public. I think he’s been masking like this for so long he forgot that this isn’t who he is–Victor has the ability to be all those things, but it’s not who he is. Victor is excitable, bubbly, caring, vulnerable, depressed, lonely, hardworking…Yuuri, by asking Victor to be himself, released a metaphorical floodgate on Victor’s emotions. He’s broken that carefully crafted persona.

Victor is now publicly goofy and affectionate

(i love how he hides his face a little here…how cute and shy while showing off that he’s yuuri’s)

And can drop his composure comfortably

(also vitya always wears gloves to competitions until they get the rings and then victor keeps the gloves off completely :v)

I love that Victor’s relationship with Yuuri has allowed him to find himself again, and peel away those masks to live and breathe and love as he was always meant to.

Why Arya threatening to kill Sansa is one of my favorite scenes in Game of Thrones

Growing up, Arya was sure of two things — that Sansa hated Jon, and that Sansa always wanted to be a queen.

  • Of the Stark siblings, Sansa was the only one who treated Jon like a bastard. The others all saw him as one of them. For many years, Arya watched Sansa treat her favorite brother unkindly.
  • Sansa lied about the whole Arya-Joffrey-Nymeria-Butcher’s-Boy affair to avoid hurting her chances of becoming Joffrey’s bride. Arya watched Sansa stick to this lie, even if her retracting it could’ve saved Lady.

Arya reunited with Sansa with neither of the above in mind. She knew they’re not kids anymore. That Sansa’s brattiness has probably faded away. After all, most of their family is dead. Why should she let the past get between her and her only sister?

But then came the lords demanding that Sansa replace Jon as ruler in the North. Arya is right. It is treason for them to even suggest overthrowing their king. And they did it so bluntly too. With utter disrespect in how they voiced it.

Enter Sansa. Her reply to treason… was brief, dull, indifferent. Arya is disappointed. Arya is confused. Then her memories awaken: Sansa always hated Jon, and Sansa always wanted to be a queen. Maybe she hasn’t changed after all… It all began with that. A couple of facts Arya always knew.

Enter Littlefinger fanning the flames with Sansa’s letter to Robb. And just like that, those two facts become cemented in Arya’s mind. She now thinks it’s very likely that Sansa will betray Jon. After all, she betrayed her own father and her trueborn brother before, asking him to bend the knee to the enemy. Why not betray the bastard brother she never cared for, and to achieve a dream she’s always had?

Angry that Sansa betrayed their family and suspecting that she’s going to betray Jon, Arya confronted Sansa. Threatened her life.

There is no way, for now at least, that Arya will accept Sansa’s excuse of having written that letter under duress. To her, Sansa was either a cold-blooded traitor, or a weakling who didn’t love her family enough at best. Either way, she was disgusted with Sansa. Arya is too much like Ned, who chose dishonor then death to save his daughters. Escaping, murdering, dying… Arya thinks these are far better options than cooperating with the enemy.

In Arya’s eyes, Sansa has now become one of the Freys. Someone responsible for the death of her loved ones. Worse, someone who could still betray Jon now. Arya is not a kid anymore. She’s not about to throw another spoonful of food at Sansa. She’s a Faceless Man now. She’s going to throw her a taste of death.

I absolutely loved this scene because of how true-to-character it is. It reminds me of what Arya was like as a child… of how much of a Stark she is… of how important loyalty is to her… of how similar she is to Ned and Lyanna… of how much she loves Jon… of the fact that she’s deadly now.

Many viewers ignore how this scene is a perfect display both of who Arya has always been and who she has become. The Starks are the good guys in Game of Thrones, so they expect nothing but hugs, kisses and smiles from them.

I read the leaks about the whole season even before Episode 1 premiered. Arya and Sansa will reconcile in the end. But I don’t know why people expected everything to be smooth-sailing in Winterfell the whole season. Game of Thrones is a drama series. Of course the writers will always create drama. And this scene was one of the most honest and best-written slices of drama they have given us.

fun facts from the ‘Beyond Stranger Things’ series on netflix (spoilers!!)

Classic Duffer Brothers moments:

  • The Snow Ball was always going to be the scene they were building to the whole season, and the scene between Nancy and Dustin there was always a part of that. That scene is based off of a real life conversation Matt Duffer had with his older female cousin while he was young, in which she basically told him the same things Nancy tells Dustin
  • They originally were going to have Will (or rather, the Mind Flayer acting as Will) kill Bob in episode four, after the speech he gives about the clown scaring him as a kid. However, Sean Astin lobbied hard for Bob to have a heroic death, and the Duffers ultimately felt like episode four was too soon for Will to become fully possessed
  • The Duffer brothers were held back in kindergarten because they only hung out with each other and didn’t socialize with the other children. By the same token, the pair would spend their lunches in high school sitting by themselves eating atop their car, which informed the scene with Nancy and Jonathan eating lunch together. Originally, the scene was supposed to be set in a field

Cute Kid Stuff:

  • The kiss between Max and Lucas at the Snow Ball was Caleb McLaughlin’s first kiss, which he was initially kind of pumped for; the novelty faded, though, when they couldn’t get the timing right and had to do take after take after take, and all the extras kept applauding
  • (this is my personal favorite) Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown were more prepared for their kiss; so that Millie could have the right reaction, Finn would whisper like a ventriloquist “I’m coming in” right before he kissed her. In the finished shot, you can see his lips just barely moving as he whispers to her
  • Noah Schnapp and Millie are two of the closest friends in the cast despite almost never appearing together onscreen, and they hope they get more scenes together in future episodes
  • The purring that Dustin does throughout the season was initially improvised by Gaten Matarazzo
  • Millie loved doing scenes with David Harbour but hated the scenes where she was alone in Hopper’s cabin, just watching soaps and putting on blindfolds, she says really she felt like Eleven felt, bored and cooped-up
  • For the scenes with the pollywog, the kids acted with little rubber models of it, one of which they affectionately nicknamed “the sushi”
  • Gaten was the first child actor cast, but didn’t know that he already had the role when he went in for chemistry reads. He met Finn outside the audition waiting to go in, who apparently “looked like he was going to be sick,” and the two were so nervous that they barely spoke a word to each other
  • Millie was very motion sick on the suspended platform during the scene in which Eleven closes the gate, so she says she “channeled her vomit” into her performance
  • Shawn Levy, who directed many of the show’s episodes, says that when working with kids, you have to give directions that you would otherwise never give to adult actors; the most prominent example was when he had to say “stop slapping each other because it’s turning your faces red” – apparently the kids were playing some slapping game between takes
  • Three Musketeers is actually in Gaten’s top three favorite candies

Other Funny Tidbits:

  • Dacre Montgomery had to do costume tests in which he had to literally show off his butt to the camera so they could find the right fit of jeans
  • Joe Keery was initially jealous of the fact that Dacre’s mullet was a wig which he could take off at the end of the day whereas Joe’s was his real hair, but he says that it grew on him, though, and he was almost sad to cut it off after filming was complete
  • When asked if he thought Hopper thinks that Bob is good for Joyce, David Harbour said “absolutely not” and that he supports “Jopper,” citing that “the sex with Hopper would be much better” (Millie and Noah expressed excitement over the possibility of Joyce and Hopper getting together, which would mean that Will and Eleven would be like siblings and they’d probably get to have scenes together)
  • Randy Haven, who plays Mr. Clarke, apparently gets science questions from fans all the time, which he can never answer because he knows nothing about science
  • It was Dacre’s idea to be seductively eating a cookie during his scene with Mrs. Wheeler
  • When Nancy and Jonathan are eating breakfast with Murray and the bit of egg falls off his fork, prompting him to say “oops,” it was completely accidental & unscripted. In the scene, Nancy appears to be amused and smiling at the situation, but it’s really just Natalia Dyer breaking character and trying not to laugh

Cool Behind-the-Scenes Trivia:

  • When filming began, the season wasn’t completely written yet, so there was plenty of room for adjustment. The writers knew that the pairing of Dustin and Steve would be comedic gold, but didn’t realize the emotional element that Gaten and Joe would bring to it, leading to the writers adjusting some of the scenes between them to add more pathos
  • One of the writers of the show was visiting the set on the day of Bob’s death scene, and she just happened to be the perfect size to portray one of the demodogs, so they asked her if she wanted to the one to kill him, and she apparently loved it
  • When Joyce and Mike are showing Bob Will’s drawings, Joyce draws an X over the spot they need to find and Bob remarks, “What’s there? Pirate treasure?” This is an overt nod to The Goonies, the classic 80s movie in which Sean Astin plays a kid who goes looking for pirate treasure (It was because of The Goonies that the Duffer brothers were initially reluctant to cast Sean, as they feared he would be too distracting)
  • After Dustin ‘dies’ playing Dragon’s Lair, Lucas taunts him by saying that “Princess Daphne is still mine.” This foreshadows that Lucas ultimately ends up with Max rather than Dustin
  • When Eleven blows out the windows of Hopper’s cabin, the windows were all shattered for real, and David refused to use a stunt double
  • Dacre had Thanksgiving with the Duffers, where they listened to 80s music and brainstormed for the soundtrack
  • For the moment where Nancy stabs Will with a fire poker, they used a real poker but reused the “fake Will” dummy from season 1

anonymous asked:

You are the first and only writer I have read for this fandom. I love your work so much, I've re read all your Arrow stories twice (even the Firefly one even though I've never watched it). Do you have any favorite Olicity fics to recommend to keep me from going crazy my first hiatus? (I binged the first 4 seasons last year)

This is awesome!! Thank you! I’m super honored. And do I have recs? Oh yes, I have recs.

First rec isn’t actually a fic, it’s a resource… @theolicitylibrary. If you want recs, they’ve got ‘em. If you want a specific trope or rating or genre, they’ve got that, too. Have a hankering for a fic where Oliver and Felicity are business rivals? There’s a link for that. Where she’s the vigilante instead? There’s a link for that, too. Where one of them is a werewolf? Yup. They’re an amazing resource and you can lose days (and weeks and months) going through lists of alpha/omega tropes and rockstar AUs and friends-to-lovers fics.

But more specifically… how about I rec some authors, too? I haven’t been reading much lately - I spend all my time writing - so I’m more comfortable reccing authors I know are amazing and whose works I’m looking forward to catching up on. They’re all consistently excellent. This is by no means an all inclusive list.

@dust2dust34 - My co-writer for FiCoN and personal fav (though I admit to no small amount of bias). If you want smut and you want details and mining a scene for feelings, Bre is your girl. She has plenty of oneshots to choose from as well as some multichapter fics.

@machawicket - Look, I can’t overstate Danielle’s skills as a writer. My husband doesn’t even read my fic but he likes hers. Her writing is funny, sweet, sexy and heartbreaking in turn but it’ll never leave you unsatisfied. She’s a master.

@anthfan - Nikki is one of those writers that’s so good she makes you forget you’re reading a story, because it’s just something you’re living. It’s an experience. Her characterization is spot-on and her plots are super engaging. She writes both one-shots and longer stories. They’re all worth your time.

@hannasus - Susannah’s writing is the perfect balance of detailed exposition and tight narrative that lets you feel like you’ve experienced the whole setting in just a few lines. Add to that fully in-character characterization and interesting plots that keep you reading and you really can’t go wrong. I recommend reading her Something Like Fate series ASAP as she’s adapted it into the basis for an original novel (which she’s publishing later this year) and it may not be up on AO3 a whole lot longer.

@rosietwiggs - I can always tell Rosie’s work in just a few lines. Her narrative voice is so very distinctive and so gripping that it pulls me in effortlessly. I don’t believe she’s writing for Arrow anymore, but even her unfinished works are worth a read. I especially recommend The New Normal, Lengths and How The Mighty Fall In Love.

@supersillyanddorky06 - I’d be surprised if you hadn’t heard around about Matty’s writing because she’s right at the core of the Olicity fandom’s best known fanfics. With good reason. She’s prolific, plotty, smutty and evocative. If you have a weakness for Bratva!Oliver, I’d start here.

@jsevick - I first met Jaimie after reading her Jurassic Park AU (really!) and being both delighted and amazed that she could make it work. I’m extremely lucky to have had her help as my beta pretty much ever since. If you like my writing, she’s a big part of it (along with @alizziebyanyothername). While she hasn’t posted in a while, her stories are just fun and if you like Gilmore Girls, her Arrow AU for Gilmore Girls is a treat!

@realityisoverrated-fic - I have no idea how you would feel about Smoaking Billionaires, Anon (I personally love it), but I’ve got to very highly recommend her Infinite Love series. At 110 parts and counting, it deals extensively with Oliver, Felicity and Tommy’s family longterm, including their kids. It’s alternately hot, sweet, and heartbreaking. But, most of all, it’s just well-written and interesting. If you’re willing to read them as a triad, I cannot recommend this strongly enough.

@geneeste - I would pay for more of Caught a Long Wind. Quite literally. But, that aside, Genie is a top notch writer. Whether her one-shots, WiPs or brilliant, ongoing epic co-written work with @machawicket, everything she writes should be devoured.

@juliesioux - Julie uses the setting in a story as another character. There’s so much life to the world she puts her characters in that it practically breathes. Above that, she doesn’t shy away from hard topics. She will rush in head-first and dig deep to explore what her characters are going through. When you read her work, take her warnings seriously, but if you’re looking for a rich story to read that challenges you, she’s the perfect option to turn to.

@thatmasquedgirl - One of the most prolific Olicity fic authors (with 110 fics, including the absolute opus Technical Assistance). She’s consistently excellent, creative and she gives us as a fandom a whole lot to read. You can probably spent a huge chunk of hiatus happily buried in her work.

@entersomethingcleverhere - As a rule, I do not read first person stories. Not even when they’re published books sitting on shelves at my bookstore. I will break that rule for her writing. I like it that much. It’s heartfelt, moving, well-paced, and the connections between her characters are both real and evolving as you go.

@arrow-through-my-writers-block - Shelby is… well, she’s just fun! She’s a solid writer who never disappoints. She’s got quite a few one-shots and a few ongoing multi-chapters. She’s probably best known for Starstruck, but all of her work is worth reading.

@wagamiller - I just really love wagamiller’s work. Like a lot. There are very few authors I have on alert, but wagamiller is. Stories that make me laugh out loud are few and far between, but the 35B series surely did (as did @machawicket‘s Unbearable Hotness of Being, btw). Strong, sharp, witty writing that will leave you with a grin on your face.

@callistawolf - When I think of Callie’s work, I think of the fanfic version of sitting down with some hot cocoa and curling up with a warm blanket to watch a Hallmark Christmas special. She’s consistently excellent about finishing her work, which is lovely, and you can pretty much always count on a feel-good romantic ending.

@hopedreamlovepray - Writing one-shots that stick with your reader is hard. Keeping a story to 1-2k and still being impactful is even harder. She absolutely manages it every time. Hope27 (as she’s known on AO3, so you can find her) has something like a hundred Olicity fics. These are, in my opinion, absolutely perfect if you want to lose yourself in a story on the train to work or during your lunch hour.

@dettiot - Mel has a lot of great stories (like really great). My favorite is probably the “ink in my pen ran dry” series, but that’s a really tough call. Core Curriculum is super hot. The Felicity Stark series (crossover with Avengers-verse) is brilliant and fun and made me giddy while reading it. Beauty in the Breakdown is excellent. Jerry the EA series features one of the best takes on a relative OC I’ve read in fics. Love is Red made me squeal like a teenager with excitement (I’m not ashamed; it was warranted). And Two Men, Same Name (written with @melsanfo) is one of those that I am absolutely dying for the time to catch up on. While I’m at it, let’s rec Mel Sanfo, too. Her Masquerade is another novel-length fic absolutely worth a read. You really can’t go wrong with either of these ladies.

@ash818 - Ash is freaking awesome. So, here’s the thing. Her Legacy series is mind-blowingly good. I have to admit, I’ve only read The Man Under The Hood in the series (this is intentional, for a reason you’ll see in a moment, but you need to read all of her work ASAP, okay? You do). This series… you’ve got future, married Olicity with teenage children as they continue their mission. There’s action, plot, heartbreak, angst, love, everything you could want. It’s in first person from their son’s perspective which is something I would probably never have clicked on in the first place had it not come highly recommended, but good lord is it amazing. All of her characters have life. All of them have depth. Her OCs are fully formed and vital to the story without overshadowing characters you already know. I haven’t read the later stories because after I decided to continue on with FiCoN verse, I didn’t want to inadvertently shade my views on Olicity’s growing family and continuing mission with anything she did in her series. If anything I do happens to run parallel to her work, I want to know beyond any doubt that it’s 100% coincidence. But her stories are something I’m absolutely itching to get to read… eventually. Her writing is excellent.

@tinaday3w - I’m tempted to say “JUST READ IT” but that’s probably not enough… But really, just read it. No one does slow burn like Tina. Victorian era AU with pirate!Oliver? Yes, please. Hello. I’ll take two.

@emmilynestill - She’s just so good. And sooooo hot. I don’t know if you know this, Anon, but writing a good sex scene is hard. You don’t want your reader pulled out of the scene by wondering if a position is actually possible or when underwear came off (or if it did) or how gravity isn’t making them collapse. Like… smut is difficult. But it reads so effortlessly with Emmilyne’s writing. And, beyond that, she weaves it in beautifully with plot that keeps you wondering what’s next and emotion that builds and grows in an organic way. Orgasms and organic feelings. Honestly, what else could anyone really want?

@ruwithmeguys - Jess will gut you and leave you asking her to do it again. Indecent Proposal… just… read the warnings and be ready and read it with a lot of time on your hands and probably in chunks because ouch. But still… read it.

@academyofshipping - Sarah has this dry sense of humor that comes out in her fics that’s as clever as it is fun. Fluffy, funny, smart, cute and rich with feeling, Sarah’s writing is consistently strong.

@someonesaidcake - Felice is fantastic for completed, multichapter AU fics. She has quite a few and I’m pretty sure every single one included smut at some point (if that’s your thing) as well as plot.

And… I’ve spent like an hour and a half on this which was a lovely diversion for my day. I know I’m forgetting amazing people but I have to stop here. When in doubt, take the title of a fic you like, google that name in quotes along with “rec list” and find someone’s list where that story was included, then explore the others. Or, check the bookmarks on AO3 of an author you like, that’s a great place to mine for fics, too. And, again, I can’t rec @theolicitylibrary enough. That said… happy reading, Anon! We’ll get through this hiatus together… through fic and sheer force of will. ;-)

anonymous asked:

what's your favorite p&p adaptation?

I can’t answer this because it’s too hard so instead I’m going to tell you why all of them are awesome and why you should watch them.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

  • It’s a modern adaptation in a series so it’s got this incredible way of translating it into modern times without leaving too much plot???
  • For a webseries it’s really well produced. Acting, costumes, writing, etc. Goooood shit.
  • SISTERLY BONDS SO STRONG
  • “I dislike smiling. It contorts the face.”
  • COSTUME THEATER! Where else are you gonna get costume theater with these characters?
  • This is easily the best version of Fitz
  • POC characters, which 0% of the other adaptations can boast, except for Bride & Prejudice which is bae
  • Darcy is gr9 hi babe
  • Honestly you could just watch for Jane she is the wife of all of us what a Queen
  • Ashley Clements kills it, she’s astounding, I just adore her delivery.
  • Mary Kate Wiles manages to make Lydia likable, which is pretty much impossible.
  • This whole series is so quotable??? Like, wow????
  • That first Dizzie kiss is A++++++++ THANK YOU ACTORS FOR GIVING THAT TO US WE LOVE YOU
  • Side note, A+ for not slut shaming Lydia.
  • LOOK THIS CAST IS THE CUTEST OMFG FITZ AND GIGI AND BING ugh cutie cast
  • Takes place in the good ol’ USofA so it can also be a pretty rad on wheels social commentary

Bride & Prejudice

  • IT’S A MUSICAL VERSION OF P&P!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!
  • Aishwarya Rai is literally the most beautiful, beautiful, graceful, beautiful woman of all time, and she plays Lalita.
  • Directed/written by a husband and wife team, like, A++ let’s always watch movies written by women and directed by them
  • The Cobra Dance. Enough said.
  • NO LIFE WITHOUT WIFE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME
  • “The lesbian.”
  • I get all my dance moves from this movie; I’ve been watching it since I was a kid.
  • “It’s just like screwing a lightbulb with one hand and pettin’ the dog with the other.” D A R C Y NOOOOO
  • The commentary Lalita makes on India was really informative and the whole movie does that; I think it’s important for a person like me who lives in America and is really privileged to hear different perspectives of different countries like this. So thank you B&P for educating me on something I never would have learned about.
  • Ashanti. As herself.
  • THE COLORS AND THE CINEMATOGRAPHY !!!! OH GOD!!!!
  • The whole plane ride with Lalita and Darcy destroys my soul. Destroys it.

2005

  • Did some say sexual tension?
  • Like, oomph do these guys want to bad.
  • I need three bullet points just to talk about how much they want to bang
  • The hand flex???!!??! LORD HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL THEY TOUCH HANDS AND I AM SINNING.
  • I really liked the way Kira Knightley played Lizzy getting slighted by Darcy at the beginning. She actually seems offended. Which you don’t always see in the other versions.
  • This movie is really cool because the director purposefully shot it so that the family looked like a real family and the viewer felt like they were kinda creepin’ on the Bennets. So it’s not composed, it’s like we’re always peering around corners or over shoulders.
  • Bingley is an actual golden retriever.
  • Also the cinematography!?!?!? like the scene where they’re both dancing and nobody else is in the room? That is gr9.
  • Rain!Darcy is the greatest Darcy. Darcy should always be wet.
  • Also his voice is deep. Like the bottom of the sea. But it sees into my soul.
  • Bingley practicing his proposal on DarcY????? BROMANCE that is some goooood shit.
  • The SOUNDTRACK lord sometimes I just listen to it over and over again. Sometimes @ananbeth will text me and be like “Rachel I’m listening to the P&P soundtrack” and I have to prepare myself for her tears. I cry.
  • The house where they film Pemberley is so gorgeous? This movie is so aesthetic?
  • Darcy’s smile when he’s laughing with Lizzy could make angels sing.
  • The American ending of this movie is the greatest thing to happen to this country since Betty White, who is older than sliced bread. Like, hoooolly crap, I don’t care that it isn’t period appropriate, I will watch it 20 times over until I shrivel up into a prune of tears.
  • And one last time, for the people in the back, SEXUAL TENSION.

1995 BBC

  • It’s basically the book. Like, the only difference is… well, you know. We’ll talk about later.
  • There’s so much boobs. There’s boobs everywhere. This movie is probably the reason I’m bisexual (I’m just kidding but seriously boobs.)
  • Colin. Firth. COLIN FIRTH. AS DARCY.
  • I just love the costumes, idk why, I love me an empire waist line.
  • Did I mention Colin Firth’s Darcy?
  • I really love the way Jennifer Ehle plays Lizzy’s spirit. I feel that she captures Lizzy’s spirit really beautifully; she really grabs onto her lust for life. Kira also does that, but Jennifer was my first Lizzy so she’ll always be Lizzy to me.
  • Colin Firth undresses and jumps into a lake in a white shirt.
  • COLIN FIRTH FENCING
  • Colin Firth in the bathtub
  • colin firth starring as grumpy cat.
  • Lydia is played probably closest to how the book intended her.
  • Idk why but Mr. Bennet is perfect, I love him, I am his and he is mine, he will parent me forever with lil tummy and his glasses.
  • Also this Mrs. Bennet is probs more accurate to book Mrs. Bennet but that kinda depends on how you read it.
  • THE SCENERY IS SO GORGEOUS
  • The “not at all, they were brightened by the exercise” scene is basically the reason I wake up in the morning. Darcy you have it so bad.
  • I love the way you kinda see Darcy’s transition… because you spend so much time in this universe and with the characters, Darcy’s transition goes really slowly but smoothly. It’s not too fast, it’s just perfect. I love it.
  • Meep

Bridget Jones’ Diary

  • Colin Firth’s triumphant return to grumpy cat.
  • Actual quote from Colin Firth upon returning to the set: “Surprise bitch. I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me.”
  • Bridget is all of us. She is literally a single, chubby, slightly alcoholic girl who loves Pride & Prejudice too much. Literally, there’s a bonus feature where she interviews Colin Firth about playing Mr. Darcy.
  • If you’re looking for Mr. Darcy hopping into bed with someone, watch Bridget Jones’ Diary. He says “I happen to like your wobbly bits” and that makes me happy.
  • Also I feel like you see his butt and that’s important because Mr. Darcy’s butt is very important for science.
  • The bunny scene? Mmmmmmm.
  • DARCY IN THE KITCHEN HE COOKS AND IT’S AMAZING
  • allll byyyy myyyseeellfff
  • “I like you just the way you are.”
  • Darcy and Wickham BITCH FIGHT it’s incredible and it’s raining men is playing in the background oh my god. I’m gonna go rewatch that scene right now goodbye friends.
Samurai Jack: The Case for Mature Western Animation

When critics talk about the must-see television events happening so far this year, shows like Better Call Saul, American Gods, and The Handmaiden’s Tale are often brought up. This is, of course, for good reason: each of those shows are well-crafted, hard-hitting, and intelligent stories told by visionary showrunners in wholly unique ways.

We need to start including Samurai Jack on that list.

Genndy Tartakovsky has always been a cinematic animator. His original run on Samurai Jack nearly two decades ago nearly revolutionized how children’s action cartoons could be portrayed, with his careful and brilliant use of silence and color. He would continue this artistry with his tragically-underrated science-fiction epic, Sym-Bionic Titan (hey, Toonami, how about asking for a second season of that show next, huh?).

When Samurai Jack returned this year, Tartakovsky knew that his audience was going to have grown with the character. He knew that [adult swim] would’ve allowed him to use as much profanity, gore, and sexual innuendos as your average Family Guy episode, and a lesser showrunner would’ve run with that opportunity. Instead, Tartakovsky opted to tell a more mature story in the literal sense of the word. This meant more reflection, more spiritual and emotional symbolism, more grounded stakes, and a more hardened Jack. Indeed, this is what makes a majority of the season so fascinating to watch.

During the original series on Cartoon Network, our hero was a calm, silent, confident warrior on a mission. Despite being a stranger in a strange land, he always kept his wits about him. Rarely did he lose. Watching the show as kids, we just knew that he was going to eventually make it back to the past to stop Aku.

In season five, we’re not so certain anymore. Jack is now more of a ronin, wandering the apocalyptic wasteland of Aku’s future looking for lives to save. It’s become so routine that he’s almost forgotten why he does it anymore. His mind is corrupted by vicious thoughts that constantly bombard him with self-doubt. He suffers from hallucinations of his family and loved ones suffering in the past without him. All the while, he’s being followed by the spirit of death, who is patiently waiting for Jack’s seemingly-inevitable suicide. Even with the introduction of comedic characters like Scaramouche, we’re shown immediately just how much darker this world had become.

That threat grows worse with the introduction of the Daughters of Aku, seven warriors bred specifically to kill Jack. In my opinion, the episodes surrounding their hunt and the subsequent battles were the highlight of the season, showcasing Tartakovsky’s storytelling nuances at their brightest. The action is as swift and dazzling as ever, and the use of dramatic lighting and suspenseful music is downright ingenious. Balancing the hard-hitting violence with the somber moments of fear and reflection make the battles between Jack and the Daughters some of the best directed scenes not simply in recent animated history, but in television history as a whole.

After a poignant childhood flashback of his father reluctantly slaying an army of foes, Jack comes to terms with the fact that he sometimes needs to shed human blood, despite having never done such a thing before. He slays six of the seven Daughters of Aku in a beautiful snow-covered forest (again showing us how much Tartakovsky and his team love playing with color), sparing only one of their lives. This is when we meet Ashi, who becomes the driving force of the entire season.

I was legitimately impressed with how the show handled Ashi’s transformation from brainwashed killing machine to Jack’s partner in good. Within the span of two incredibly-paced episodes, we saw her slowly peel away the layers of both who she and the “evil” samurai were. Contrasting the unforgiving violence of her upbringing to the gentleness of her former enemy causes her to question everything she knew, and interacting with Jack’s old friends from the original series solidified her stance on the matter: Jack, despite everything she knew, was a hero.

(Just an aside, seeing Ashi break lose and dance at the Rave with a big smile on her face was one of the happiest damn moments of the season for me)

A lot of people were unsure of how to interpret Ashi. I know a lot of people felt she was very sexualized throughout the series, and I felt there was a definitive lack of understanding when it came time for the character to “wash herself clean” of Aku’s influence (does it matter if she was technically naked the whole time? Can’t we just accept physical metaphors and move on?). Some didn’t like that she had to save Jack on multiple occasions, while some didn’t like the fact that she, herself, had to be saved on multiple occasions. I feel as if those people were simply looking for something to complain about, because I legitimately found Ashi to be a great character.

The episode in which she needed to take down an entire army sent to kill Jack while he was meditating his anger away and acquiring his sword is an all-timer, and probably the most Tartakovsky-esque of the season. The action sequences are as brutal as they had ever been, with bright Tarantino-styled blood spilling over the battlefield; Meanwhile, Jack’s spiritual quest for inner-peace is filled with as much stillness and restraint as the creative staff could muster. Truly the last perfect episode of the season.

I felt as if every idea and story beat Tartakovsky had planned ended up in the season in some capacity, though I felt that the pacing was forced to grow a bit rushed as the season wrapped up. The best – and most unfortunate – example of this is the finale itself.

It’s exactly how we all secretly wanted the show to end: Jack is seemingly defeated, and Aku can’t help but gloat to everyone on the planet. Right as a possessed Ashi is about to deliver the fatal blow, all of Jack’s allies rally together for a full assault on Aku’s castle (what else could’ve possibly connected all of these strange characters than the capture of their legendary savior?). Jack breaks free and assists Ashi in overcoming Aku’s demonic grasp. Upon learning that she possesses all of Aku’s abilities, she’s the one who opens up a new portal in time, allowing Jack to go back to the past and finally defeat Aku.

(In what was easily my favorite part of the finale, Jack and Ashi appear almost immediately after his original self was sent back, leaving Aku flustered, baffled, ill-prepared, and horrified. “You’re back already?!” he spits out. Jack conquers his foe easily, and while some found the final battle anti-climactic, I felt it was perfect.)

Afterwards, Jack finally returns home, Ashi by his side. A wedding is arranged immediately, and they’re ready to spend the rest of their lives together. In a dark twist that those of us familiar with time travel almost saw coming, however, Ashi disappears from existence in Jack’s arms, having never been born due to Aku never taking over the future. Jack, bitterly alone, retreats to the forest, where a ladybug (a beautiful callback to Ashi’s character arc) allows him to see the promise of what’s to come.

It all sounds so perfect. Unfortunately, everything emotional that happened in this episode had to be squeezed into the last ten minutes. This maybe could’ve worked if Tartakovsky hadn’t perfectly spaced out Jack’s inner turmoil at the beginning of the season. After such perfect reflection, I wanted to see more emotion from these last few moments. There was a lot Jack needed to react to, from all of his friends coming together to fight Aku, to Ashi finally defeating and channeling the darkness within her, to the unadulterated and enormous impact of finally returning to the past! Jack had spent over fifty years trying to get there, and we didn’t even get to see an emotional reunion with his family. That just didn’t feel right to me.

Then there’s Ashi’s disappearance. She didn’t die, she was erased from existence. After struggling with his inner demons throughout the first half of the season, I wanted to see Jack mentally and emotionally try and cope with that. After all, it wasn’t simply Ashi who vanished; it was all of his friends and allies whose lives he had touched throughout his decades in the future. All of them were gone, a curse that inevitable if Jack were to complete his mission. There is pain, horror, and guilt bursting at the seams with such an ending. We could’ve had an entire half hour dedicated to Jack accepting what he had done. It’s such a bitter, dark, and beautiful ending emotionally, and I felt the writing staff wasn’t given the time to appropriately explore it.

Still, all of the ideas were there, and Genndy ended the show on his own terms creatively. He still provided us with nine-and-a-half perfect episodes that broke the boundaries of what Western animation was capable of. It practiced restraint and patience when other action cartoons insist on doing the complete opposite. It gave us a hero plagued with inner-darkness and mental illness on a journey of self-purpose. It gave us a character with a redemption arc we never saw coming and rooted for until her tragic end. And – for me, anyway – it gave me hope for animation as a medium, that more audiences will look at this sweeping epic of a story and think “I want more.”

anonymous asked:

Can you rec any stories?

Oh boy. You better strap in, because I have read a lot of fics. Most of these will probably be Dick Grayson centric, though, so just a fair warning. I’ve seen a couple people format fic recs like this, and I really like it. I hope it’s organized enough!

Of course, you can always go through my fic recs tag, too!

The Bonds that Tie by DawnsEternalLight
Words: 59,507 (between 2 fics)
Summary: A series exploring the Batfamily growing closer together.
My Comments: Absolutely amazing and heart wrenching. The first fic in this series is finished, which is a lot more about Dick and Damian’s relationship, but the second is still ongoing, which is more about Jason and Tim. It’s a wonderful series!

To Pass Through This Night by DawnsEternalLight
Words: 4,147
Summary: When Dick was captured by the Syndicate he died, for a short period of time, but he still died. It’s a fact he kept from his closest friends and family to protect them. When Damian and Tim find out he has to face not only them, but the emotions he’s buried from the event.
My Comments: It’s a forever evil fic. Like, you don’t even know how much I love this, especially because it involves the whole family’s feelings, not just Dick’s.

Even When You’re Down by DawnsEternalLight
Words: 4,628
Summary: Jason is expecting pizza at his door, not a very sick Dick Grayson. When he can’t figure out what’s wrong with his brother he turns to the only person he can, Bruce.
My Comments: Ahhh I love sickfics so much, and this one did not disappoint! Jason and Bruce coming together to care for Dick was amazing to read! To be honest, @preciousthingsareprecious‘s fics are all amazing, and I’ve read so many of Dawn’s works. These are just my absolute favorites!

Stubborn by audreycritter
Words: 20,359 (4/4)
Summary: Dick is usually the one taking care of everyone else and he’s bad at asking for help.So bad, in fact, that he never even actually asks– but Jason shows up anyway. And then Dick returns the favor. And then they both do for Tim. And it’s just going to keep going from there. It’s probably Alfred’s fault. When your butler mom calls and says, “Go check on your brother,” you don’t argue. You just do it.
My Comments: The first chapter absolutely killed me. It’s a sickfic, with each chapter focusing on a different batkid. It’s so well written, and it’s one of my all time favorites!

The Mechanics of a Hug by incogneat-oh
Words: 4,154
Summary: “So,” Tim ventures. “It's… what, a cuddle pollen?” Bruce just shrugs. “Something like that.”
My Comments: It’s funny, it’s angsty, the dialogue is absolutely amazing, and I would recommend this author’s fics (all of them, really) a thousand times over. This one is just my absolute favorite that I’ve read a bajillion times.

World’s Apart by Fernandidilly_yo
Words: 37,169 (3/?)
Summary: Dick’s world is falling apart. With all the heroes and Batman gone, the teen thinks this is the end, that is until Dick miraculously end up in an Alternet Universe where the world is whole and there’s a family waiting for him.
My Comments: This is an AU that absolutely BREAKS MY HEART. There’s so much description and it’s such an amazing story. It has a lot of potential, and besides the occasional typos/spelling errors, it’s probably one of the best I’ve ever read. I’m looking forward to more!

Locked Away by AutumnHobbit
Words: 3,021
Summary: anonymous asked: would you consider writing dick being asked to empty jasons locker at school after jason dies?

“Uh, Wayne residence,” he said, cringing after the fact at how hoarse his voice sounded. He scrubbed a hand over his eyes in frustration.
“Um, hello. Is, um….” the female voice trailed off hesitantly. “Is Mr. Wayne available at the moment?”
“I’m afraid not,” Dick said, trying harder to channel his inner Alfred. “Can I take a message?”
“…Yes,” the woman said. “It’s….well, it pertains to his son, Jason.”
My Comments: THIS IS SO SAD. I still love it, because it shows a side of Dick that we don’t see often. We see Dick happy around his family, angry, frantic, but never this grieving boy mourning the loss of a brother, and it’s heartbreaking. There are a lot more quality fics by this author, as well.

there is a design, an alignment by irnan
Words: 584
Summary: Dick’s just had brain surgery. No wonder it hurts.
My Comments: This is so sweet. But, of course, Bruce can only seem to show affection to his kids when they’re hurt or unconscious.

exactly how this grace thing works by irnan
Words: 22,710
Summary: Dick gets de-aged. You’d think this would be a routine thing.
My Comments: Honestly, this is the fic that convinced me to stay in the fandom. It’s the fic that I will always aspire to write, quality wise. It’s an amazing piece about a de-aged Dick learning to accept the family that’s suddenly thrust onto him, and his family, in turn, learn things about him that they didn’t know before. The whole fic is amazing.

Who We Were by ZiZzy
Words: 105,025 (33/?)
Summary: When the Graysons fell their son went to his great-uncle to be trained as a Talon. Four years later he is rescued and taken to live at Wayne Manor. But, he is not the talkative boy he once was, in fact talking at all is a bit of a problem… A series of connected oneshots about how the Batfamily is formed when the older brother is not quite who he was meant to be.The timeline of each chapter is in the A/Ns.
My Comments: It’s a little hard to get used to this fic, since most of them are read like one-shots in the same AU, but this fic destroyed me. Dick is so adorable, and he’s going through so much, and Bruce is so understanding. The last couple of chapters had me in tears.

Half Lost, Half Found by takadainmate
Words: 23,632 (4/5)
Summary: Driven underground, Batman fights to keep Nightwing alive. There is a fight. There’s always a fight.
My Comments: I always recommend this story, but it’s amazing. There’s a lot of tension between Dick and Bruce, but they have to work together in order to survive. Sadly, this fic hasn’t been updated since 2013, but it’s only the last chapter that’s missing. It’s still a great story, even without it.

Family is a Crisis by Lysical
Words: 4,172
Summary: In their family there’s always some sort of crisis going on.
“Probably a fashion crisis,” Jason muttered. “He probably dragged us all here so he could show off some chartreuse and fuchsia monstrosity.” “You aren’t making a new costume again, are you?” Damian added, nose wrinkling. “I thought we all agreed you were staying away from colors.”
My Comments: This fic is hilarious.Seriously, as much as I wish Tim was in it, too, it is the perfect sequel to the one scene at the burger joint in Batman #16.

Grade School by KagSesshlove
Words: 100,098 (13 fics)
Summary: Imagine that Damian goes to a regular school full time. And has to do things that normal grade-schoolers have to do. This is his life now: pretending to be a normal 10 year old at school all for the sake of the public. But, honestly, the public would rather he not.
My Comments: When I first found this fic, I think I started screaming at @stepichu to read it, too, I was so excited. I think I actually read it twice in one week? Please read this entire series. It’s hilarious and serious and just plain amazing. Sometimes the characterizations are a little exaggerated, but I still love it. It totally adds to the story! And the best part is that it was just completed!

the man with guns for eyes by 8sword
Words: 22,056
Summary: “Don’t blame him, little D. He gave me a choice.” “He always makes it a choice,” Damian mutters. “If you’re the one who makes the decision, it’s your fault if it’s the wrong one.” (Dick comes back from the dead.)
My Comments: Hm. Okay, on the one hand I really like reading this fic, because the boys are all forced to talk to each other and try to work things out. On the other hand, sometimes this fic leaves me reeling. There’s a lot to get through in one sitting, and sometimes I have to break it up.

With Friends Like These by ChimaeraKitten
Words: 4141
Summary: How Artemis got to know both Dick Grayson and Robin before finding out they were the same person.
My Comments: This is a YJ fic, but it’s really good. Like, I didn’t know I needed Artemis getting to know Dick Grayson so badly until I read this. There are also some other really good fics by @chimaerakitten, but this one is one that I fell in love with.

Crowded Enough by CaraLee
Words: 18,744 (15/?)
Summary: An AU built off of the titular line from the pilot episodes of Young Justice. Dick Grayson comes home from the events at CADMUS to the enjoyment of his various siblings, friends, and sibling-like people. Now extended: One chapter per episode of the first season. Plus a few extras.
My Comments: I love this so much. Each chapter is gold.

Save You by ArsenicInYourPudding
Words: 6538 (4/4)
Summary: The three times Wally West made sure Dick Grayson lived to fight another day, and the one time he didn’t have to.
My Comments: Warnings for suicidal thoughts/actions. The bromance between Dick and Wally in this is amazing, and this fic got me through some tough times. The whole thing always has my crying by the end, no matter how many times I read it.

That’s just on ao3, and it’s getting really late, so I needed to shorten this a bit. I will say that you’re welcome to look through my bookmarks on ao3 and my story favs on ff.net if you’re looking for more. There are a lot of amazing fics out there that I didn’t mention. I probably will come back to update this sooner or later.

edit because I don’t know how I forgot these:

Interval of Shadow by CaramelMachete
Words: 41,403 (15/?)
Summary: Nightwing, Robin and Red Robin take on Clayface. Nightwing does not emerge unscathed. Is this the end of Nightwing’s career? How will the rest of family react? Will Dick recover, and what should he do if he can’t?
My Comments: My goodness, this fic is honest to god amazing. It shows the struggle Dick goes through and how his family scrambles to be there for him. The interactions between everyone is so spot on, and if you haven’t read this, read it. And then come scream at me or @caramelmachete about it.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by anon_nom_nom
Words: 3,614
Summary: Prompt from yj_anon_meme:
Okay, so I always thought that the reason DCAU Dick turned into such a bitter little thing was because he only ever had Batman, and sometimes Batgirl, but he never had his Titans or his Wally or anything. So I would like so see something where Robin is starting to show early warning signs of this, maybe just frustration after a really bad night on the job in Gotham with Batman, and him actually having his team there to help him deal with it.In which Robin has a bad night, discusses poetry, and gets a massage.
My Comments: This is a YJ fic that shows the struggle that Dick goes through as a partner of Batman, and I find it super realistic. It’s really fluffy with a hint of light angst, and all of the characters are spot on.

Fear by tristen84
Words: 18,622 (6/6)
Summary: While on a stake-out together, Robin and Kid Flash have a frightening run-in with Scarecrow. Dick-Wally friendship.
My Comments: Another YJ fic. If you want Wally and Dick bromance, like, this is the fic. It’s a really good story, too, and it shows just how much both Dick and Wally care for each other. It’s a good read.

I’m probably still forgetting some, but these are all amazing, too, and please check them out!

SnK Chapter 93 Poll Results

The chapter 93 poll closed with 1,143 entries. Can I start with a wow? With so many responses, this is going to be a long one.

RATE THE CHAPTER
(1024 responses)

The Marley Files continue to grow on us. 77% of respondents rated Chapter 93 very highly.

Best chapter I’ve ever reviewed in a while. I hope next month will deliver heavy stuff.

My Jaeger reunion hype was amplified by 3000 eggplants after this chapter

Loved the diversity in the new characters. Riener is so torn mentally & emotionally. I believe few more pages on the warrior are still needed before getting back to Paradise. I sense a glimpse of hope in escaping a doomed end. somebody will live & achieve freedom. who? hard to tell.

Everybody has different opinions about the plot, but I do not think anyone can argue about the art. Love this manga. Want to see Levi again!

I never imagined I could love these characters even more. Now I do. Bravo Isayama-sensei, I never felt so hyped for this chapter for the longest time!

Stop trying to make these new kids happen, Isayama. It’s not going to happen.

My interest in the manga is reaching an all time low with this focus on Marley. And it looks like we’ll still be there next month. I’m so done.

I haven’t minded these recent chapters, but I haven’t felt like I enjoyed them since its a virtually unknown cast. I did however enjoy chapter 93!

Inside Choices: Rules of Engagement Series Finale

When Rules of Engagement: Book One launched back in September of 2016, everyone at Pixelberry was over the moon and, to be honest, pretty nervous. This was the first completely new book to come out after the initial three launch books, and we didn’t know how it would be received.

Before that, the Rules of Engagement team had spent months brainstorming, outlining, and writing the planned trilogy. The art team magicked together luxurious cruise ship art in record time. What started out as the jokingly coined “love on a boat” book transformed into a globe-trotting adventure. The series is now over, but will return for a short holiday special book titled Newlyweds. For a final look at Rules of Engagement, I interviewed a few of its writers…

The curtains have closed on the Rules of Engagement trilogy. First, I’ve gotta ask… How do you feel?

Kara: I’m sad to see the story end! I can’t believe it was just over a year ago that we came up with these characters and their stories. It’s been a crazy ride, particularly since the Rules team pushed themselves pretty hard (we launched Book 2 and 3 with no break in between, which is really hard on the team!). I’ve really come to love all of the characters, even those that seemed less lovable at the start, and it’s been such a fun product to get to explore the different voices of the siblings and their friends and love interests. I wasn’t very involved in Book 3 other than the brainstorms, so it’s been such a delightful surprise to see how the new writers have steered the ship.

Coco: It’s very nostalgic for me. Rules of Engagement was the very first series I worked on when I started working at Pixelberry, so it’s been a great cruise ship journey seeing the series through from joining in on Book One all the way to the end. We’re all headed to other exciting projects after this, but Rules and its characters will always be very special to me!

Did the series go the way you expected? Were there any surprise detours along the way?

Ariel: A huge surprise for me was liking the cousin! Her arc felt really genuine, which is part of why it was easy to understand her point of view. Playing from her perspective really helped us see the good in her, as well Chaz’s bird’s-eye view of her. He brings out the best in her, and now they’re the cutest couple!

Jennifer: This is kind of a spoiler alert for book one, but an unexpected thing that came out of Rules was tying Leo being the prince of Cordonia to the Prince in The Royal Romance. We’d always planned on doing a romantic royal adventure, but this twist wasn’t part of the original picture. Kara and I are having so much fun working together on The Royal Romance right now, and doing it this way, as a spin-off, feels so perfect.

The Rules of Engagement cruise took the crew all over the world. What was your favorite place to visit, story-wise?

Coral: Istanbul was really different art wise and provided a look into cultures we didn’t get to see much of for a lot of the cruise. It was so cool to write scenes around the architecture there and and explore what made the city special. It also might be my favorite because so many important storylines converged there, such as the cousin and bookish sister coming together to light the lantern, and being able to emotionally connect.

Coco: I absolutely loved getting to visit Iceland! The Aurora Borealis is high on my list of sights to see, and the art in that cutscene is so beautiful and colorful. It felt meaningful that we got to pair that setting with a very emotional talk between the bookish sister and Audrey that illuminates parts of Audrey’s life that we hadn’t gotten to hear about previously. My hope is that getting to travel virtually through Rules inspires people to look around their surroundings for the next adventure, even if that just means looking at your own backyard with a new perspective or curious lens!

There were plenty of plot twists, alongside heartwarming and hilarious scenes. What was your favorite moment of the whole series?

Kara: My favorite moment was when William Sloan takes you out for gelato in Italy way back in Book 1. It was one of the first dates I’ve written for Choices and I felt like I was getting to write the perfect date.

Ariel: One of my favorite moments was the scene where Chaz and the brother were shipwrecked on the island together. Every part of it was so fun from Chaz remarking on the beautiful shells to them falling in the hole. It made me laugh out loud!

Will we ever see the Rules of Engagement family again? Any plans for crossovers?

Kara: There are plans for an epilogue-style mini-book that’ll take place after a slight time jump. While the story of Rules is complete, we wanted to show what life is like off the boat for the family… and what’s next for them after the wackiness of the inheritance tasks has ended!

Coco: Yep! This shorter holiday special will explore how the family adjusts to life after the cruise, and especially how they struggle to remain close in spite of the many changes in their lives. We hope that it’ll also be fun for players to experience the romance and excitement of newlywed life!

Finally, what’s next for Team Rules of Engagement? Aside from Rules of Engagement: Newlyweds, of course.

Coral: I’m the newest member on the Rules team, so it’s really exciting to be able to keep working with a great teammate like Ariel on a new project. We have some amazing ideas we’re excited to share when the time is right!

Kara: Rules is probably the series that has had the most writers work on it over the last year. You can see that reflected in the zany humor, heartwarming sibling stories, family cultural heritage, and other elements that made it into each book. Every writer contributed something valuable and wonderful throughout this journey. Earlier on, some of the team moved off Rules to work on newer series, like LoveHacks and The Royal Romance (and another new book that’s coming soon!). Others are just now getting ready to start exciting new projects that won’t launch until next year…

Can’t wait! To those reading along, we hope you enjoyed this journey on Ember of the Sea. The holiday season is just around the corner, and the Choices team has a few surprises planned for the winter months!

Fic recs? Fic recs!

For Fandom Fic Rec Days because this is a fantastic idea. These ones will be for Voltron, but if people want fic recs for other fandoms I’ve clawed through extensively (Batman, FMA, Young Justice, One Piece) I can do those too.

(Also, sorry to any writers who aren’t tumblr-tagged. I am terrible with names and probably don’t know you’re here. But I’ve still linked to your fic profiles in this case!)

AUTHOR SHOUT-OUTS:
a.k.a. “you should read everything they do it’s all quality okay”

@maychorian Okay look, if you are in any way excited that I’m in this fandom, you owe maychorian a big ‘thank you’ since she was unwittingly the reason I decided to stick around after watching S1. Boom Crash The Sound Of My Ship was one of the first fics I found after wandering into the fandom and holds a special place in my heart to this day. I have fond memories of eating up the whole series by staying up late or sneaking chapters at work on my breaks. I once hid in my car during my lunch break to read a chapter right after it released? Recs all around, just read all her stuff.

@bosstoaster You’ve probably read BT’s stuff already because who hasn’t but I don’t care I’m reccing her stuff anyway. BT writes everything. Like, everything. With a Shiro focus primarily, but she’s got a great handle on the other characters and will tackle such an insanely crazy variety of prompts I am continually stunned by whatever is produced next. Known for making you suffer but will make you laugh or feelz too. Special shout out to Spark to Ignite which is probably my favorite. Is this cheating because it was an exchange fic for me? Hell no. This was my One Thing that I desperately wanted to see in the fandom and it was not anywhere. BT did a fantastic job making it come to life and making me suffer but I asked for it so it’s okay and I reread this one all the time.

@butteredonions Where do I even START? So much good fic, guys. Onions fills my cravings for all things AU and she has such an insanely wide variety. If you like AU’s there is something there for everyone and they are always so well thought out and still fit each character so well. Also (in)famous for smol!Shiro, and I’m not actually partial to a lot of deaged!chars fics because people have a bad tendency to write toddlers and young children so innacurately, but this one is gold and so it’s great. But my personal fic shoutout is gonna go to The Throne In The Hall which is just all around amazing. Gorgeous imagery, great setting, solid plot, beautiful characterization, and badass fight scenes, this whole thing is just a delightful treat from start to finish.

@ashinan Has some great works all around and you should read it! I can’t speak for Ash’s ship fics because I’m not really into ships, but people swear by both Ghost of a King and Bombs and Bullets, so I assume they are top quality for ship stuff. Me? I’m gonna rec you all Something Strange which is the most best, shut up, I will fight you on this. Amazing piece that is the modern supernatural cryptids-and-ghosts AU I didn’t know I need until I read this. Amazing characterization and so many little details that I just love picking out of the narrative and basking in. This fic is both hilariously entertaining because of the group shenanigans and frightfully haunting because of the ghosts (pun sort of intended?) Ash has also hinted at maybe doing more for the series and I’m clawing at the walls waiting for it. Read now. Do it.

@mumblefox Rounding out the Think Tank, mumble’s work is worth checking out too! Like ash, a lot of mumble’s stuff is tagged for ships, which I don’t really do, but I absolutely adore Reconnaissance which is all I need to tell me mumble’s got top quality word weaving skills. Mumble does character dynamics wonderfully and I love watching Pidge and Keith work together in this, playing off each other both in the safe Castle environment and the heat of battle. There’s gorgeous imagery all throughout this fic and tons of little details buried in the narrative that just add so much character to the story itself. Also, I am a sucker for building any kind of alien culture or worldbuilding in general, and it’s here in spades.

GriffinRose: I don’t see this fic writer recced a lot? It’s a crying shame, they’re good at what they do. Lots of Keith-centric stuff but not necessarily in a shippy way (which is usually what I see for Keith-centric stuff), but they also tackle some other characters too! My favorite is actually Mama Holt because we see a lot of Matt and Sam hanging around the Castle with the paladins in fics but Pidge’s mom? Not so much. This is a sweet little piece that hits all my found family feels, in which Mama Holt ends up on the Castle of Lions and slowly ends up adopting absolutely everyone in it, and I love every word in it. Yes. Check out Griffin’s stuff, you won’t regret it.

INDIVIDUAL FIC RECS:

You Can’t Take the Sky From Me by isabeau225
Voltron fan? Firefly fan? This fic is the fic for you! Now a series and too damn adorable. Shiro’s not expecting any kids but somehow he just keeps getting more, and somehow he’s okay with that. Again, one of those fics that does child characters well. After I read this I squeed for half an hour and melted onto the floor.

Accepting Amelioration by XILVerify
Daemon fics are my other weakness…when handled well. The problem I see with a lot of daemon fics is that writers will include the daemons but they are there more as a prop then as another character. This fic does a GORGEOUS job of avoiding that pitfall and a BEAUTIFUL job of writing the daemon concept in space with these characters and I fell in love with it. Also has some very interesting interpretations of daemons that differ a bit from the novel, but in ways I really enjoy…like breaking some of the standards for what animals mean what personalities, or making touching another’s daemon less of a sexual interaction and more of a close trust or strong platonic bond kind of thing. Beautiful work. Check it out.

One for All, All for One by KaijuDork
Absolutely gorgeous Shiro-centric (but also team based) fic. Hurt comfort in spades as Shiro tries to help the paladins and they try to help him at the same time. Some beautiful and haunting imagery in this one. Still a WIP, but I’m hoping the writer can finish one day. I believe in you :)

Of a Sort by hameru
For the sickfic fan. Shiro is really, really sick, and the others do their best to help him out. Also a WIP but the first two chapters are just…quality sickfic and will fill all your hurt/comfort needs by themselves. (Still will be excited when/if more posts though)

Empty Spaces by Oreramar
Kind of a modern AU without the space stuff. Shiro loses his arm in an accident and things start to go downhill from there, until he unexpectedly finds the perfect new career…in daycare. Again, one of those rare fics that handles kids well (although they’re kind of there peripherally in this one), and the modern AU aspect is handled really skillfully too. Makes you feel all happy inside when you’re done reading it. The kind of fic I would love to see more extension on, although I’m content with this too.

Shadows of our Dreams by KUG
Because sometimes you just need a cuddle pile. This one fills the niche for both cute and fluffy as well as angsty and hurt comfort. If you need all kinds of feels all in one place this is your one-stop shop.

Lean on Me by GlassSoldiers
Wouldn’t be a good fic rec without a good 5 times! This is one of my faves. Shiro looking out for all his team, and his team looking out for him. I’m a big fan of this theme, obviously, so this one really hits the spot. Everyone gets a chance to shine, which is great :)

how to win friends, influence people, and form voltron by brosura
A WIP but a very worth it WIP, holy crap, read this. An AU in which Keith doesn’t get booted from the Garrison, and ends up slowly integrating with the rest of the Original Trio. Primarily Hunk’s PoV too which is awesome. Double awesome, it literally just updated as I was writing this list, which means there’s a new chapter, which means I need to find time to read it. AAAAAH.

These are amongst my favorites. Good job to everyone on the list, and thanks for making my nights and work breaks exciting, for making me stay up late to finish just ONE MORE CHAPTER, for giving me something to read while eating, for giving me something to motivate me to get my own work done, and for giving me things to look forward to after terrible days. Love you all and this fandom has been amazing to me so far. :)

What is your favorite non-Austen period novel? Movie?

Okay I’m gonna do a rundown of all my favourites because making me pick one is just mean. (Also at one point in my notes on the following books and films I just wrote “Bagels” and I can’t for the life of me think what I might have meant or autocorrected that from. Maybe a shopping list started to take form. I don’t know.)

(If the film Miss Austen Regrets and book Longbourn by Jo Baker count as non-Austen then include them.)

Films:

Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India - 2001 (Sports! High stakes! Sticking it to the Colonial Man!)

Mozart’s Sister - 2010 (Beautiful music! Gorgeous androgyny! GIRLS CAST TO PLAY THEIR ACTUAL AGE AND NOT SOME 20-SOMETHING PRETENDING TO BE FOURTEEN!)

Possession - 2002 (I’ve tried the novel, and A.S. Byatt has some beautiful prose but her structures sometimes do my head in, so never finished it. Ignore Paltrow as best you can and enjoy lush Victorian Gothic mystery and the ending is one of the most poignant things I’ve ever been pleasantly surprised with on film, and it leaves you wondering about many, many things…)

Jodhaa Akbar - 2008 (You could put Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in the worst commercial ever made and I would watch it. Costumes, scenery, and, as a friend once put it “I’m not sure how they did it, but they just had a sex scene without any sex.” Bravo.)

Water - 2005 (Deepa Mehta is such a fantastic filmmaker and I loved this whole trilogy but Water is my favourite.)

Elizabeth - 1998 & Elizabeth: The Golden Age - 2007 (The costumes! The caMERA ANGLES!!! The compli-fucking-cated mess that is Elizabeth I.)

[Okay Tumblr won’t let me embed any more trailers, but those ones are easy to find, they’re out there.]

Vatel - 2000 (Any foodie who is also a fan of The Sun King and his era will dig this one. A great score, baddie Tim Roth.)

Alternatively, in the same era: A Little Chaos - 2015. Storyline is a little weak, but it’s so beautiful and the cast is great and the M U S I C. Kate Winslet. Alan Rickman. Helen McCrory. STANLEY TUCCI.)

Also: they’re not films, but TV shows - honourable mentions to the Spanish series Gran Hotel. It’s like a good version of Downton Abbey, only sorta on crack and with a tonne more murder mysteries; and while I have some Issues with its so-called hero and some comparatively weirdo plot-points in S3, overall, it’s fantastic and I’m obssessed. Please don’t mix it up with the Italian re-make which looks horrible in every way. Like, main actors dressed in a poorly-sewn-table-cloth-bad.

And shout-out to the new CBC/Netflix series Anne. I will defend this show to the DEATH, alright? They’ve gone bolder and fresher and have managed to involve period realism in a moving way while retaining the sunshine-and-pinafores element that so many people love about L.M. Montgomery’s work. There’s heaps of women with production credits, and I think it shows. Geraldine James is already my favourite Marilla after one episode, and I feel like R.H. Thompson (HEY JASPER DALE HEEEEY!) and Amybeth McNulty are likely going to become my favourite Matthew and Anne, too. People have complained about this series going off-book and in particular some have condemned it sight-unseen because the writers/directors are putting a feminist spin on it and OH GOD THEY SAID FEMINIST QUICK WE GOTTA SET EVERYTHING ON FIRE BECAUSE CHILDHOOD IS RUINED, but honestly it’s just perky and gorgeous and scrappy and nobody can tell me to my face that Kevin Sullivan didn’t go all the fucking way off-book from the very beginning so I am not gonna sit here and insist that the Megan Fallows Anne of Green Gables was perfection which could never be improved upon because that’s just a plain lie. It was nice and it has its place but it’s time for some new blood. (And NOT the telefilms they’ve also come out with recently with Martin Sheen, bless his heart, but they took a brunette child actor and dumped an atrociously stark box of red hair-dye on her before drawing on her freckles and then telling her to please play everything theatrically to the back of the house even though there is a camera ten inches from her face.) I am HERE FOR ANNE. RIDE OR DIE.

AND NOW, FOR BOOKS!

After that you might assume my L.M. Montgomery recommendation would be Anne of Green Gables and sure I won’t say DON’T read them, but for my money the Emily of New Moon trilogy is more my jam and I wish to God and Netflix in all my prayers that there might someday be a decent adaptation of them.

I was really into Cassandra Clark’s Abbess of Meaux mystery series for a time, but then things went a bit pear-shaped in what I think was the fourth(?) book and everything was OOC and honestly I haven’t caught up on the later books after that and they seem to be self-published now but I am a sucker for nuns and mysteries so I’ll probably get back into it when I have time.

The Princess Priscilla’s Fortnight and The Solitary Summer by Elizabeth von Arnim. Vacation-reads! Beautiful prose, some wry wit, and fun hijinks. If you’ve ever wanted to run away and live in an isolated cottage in the wilderness for a little while, these are for you. [ETA: I recently got my hands on a copy of The Jasmine Farm so THANK YOU to one of you who recommended it I am loving it so far only I don’t see the appeal in Andrew so wtf Terry you can do better.]

Edward Rutherfurd’s geographical history novels–Sarum is the classic to start with, but the others I’ve read are very good, too. (London, New York, and I’m now working my way through a first-edition of Russka.)

Amy Levy. A M Y   L E V Y. Criminally under-recognized Jewish Victorian novelist and poet. Novellas Ruben Sachs and The Romance of a Shop. (RS a beautiful and bittersweet story about the conflicts between love, identity, and expectations, and some would say a response to George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda. TRoaS reading a bit like a less treacle-sweet variation on Little Women, where four sisters try to make their way in the world by setting up their own photography studio in late 19th century London.)

The Making of a Marchioness by Frances Hodgkin Burnett. Colonialist racism appears in this one, so be warned. Still the book is a THOUSAND times better than the utterly dreadful adaptation known as The Making of a Lady. Jane is better, Emily is better, Walderhurst is better, pretty much EVERYONE IS BETTER. The pacing is better. The plotting and suspense make actual sense.

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy. A classic, and the grand-daddy of every secret-identity superhero.

The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy. Like, it makes me MAD how good these books are.

And last but not least, a non-fiction selection in Vere Hodgson’s WWII diaries: Few Eggs and No Oranges. Nothing else has ever brought the experience of living (or trying to) under the shadow of the bombs and the threat of invasion quite like these diaries. Fascinating details, engagingly written, and at times a stark reminder that the Allied victory we take for granted in our history could by no means be counted on by the millions who dwelt in daily uncertainty.

Hi there! I have a genuine q. Why do you most kuro fans believe Seb and Ciel are in an intimate relationship (that's not shown explicitly to readers)? I get all the fanservice (fangirl over it tbh), but the kid -freaks- when others touch him. It's even happened with Sebastian. Yana sensei hints the cult assaulted him so all the 'don't touch me!' moments stem from that. With Ciel's visible trauma, I'm kinda scratching my head why so many people legitimately think Ciel wants to do his butler?

Hello, Anon ~

Wow, that’s a very interesting question! However, I’m afraid I cannot speak for the whole fandom, so I can only give you my personal opinion.

Definitely, one of the things that encourage the shipping is the fanservice. Yaoi fans are naturally attracted to series with two male leads, and shippers of any kind will always start shipping characters that spend a lot of time together, have a close relationship and make a lot of physical contact, as those are the things that lead to a strong bond (romantic or otherwise) in real life. So if you add some nearly sexual situations, suggestive comments and a certain amount of possessiveness, what you got is (something resembling) a relationship. It’s only natural that the fans ship it. Yet, I can see you’re hinting something deeper than a platonic relationship and, while I’m not one of those who believe that they fuck behind closed doors, there are several in-canon reasons why such a thing wouldn’t be so unlikely.

Favorite Snowbarry Fics

So I have a bit of free time before things get busy again, and being Snowbarry Trash™ I thought, What better way to spend it than rereading my favorite SB fics????? At first I compiled all the links in one place as a reference for myself, but what the heck, it won’t hurt to put these fics out there again and send the writers some love.

Before anything, a caveat: this is by no means a comprehensive list of all the best SB fics. There are a lot of other great fics out there. Also “favorite” here probably more accurately means “fics I reach for when I’m having a bad day,” lol. So to these writers here, THANK YOU. Your fics really get me going again. (And to other fanfic writers out there, keep writing! You’ll never know when a fic will make someone’s day a little better, as these did for me.)

The fics are below the cut, arranged alphabetically. I put in the summary and a brief gushing of what I liked about them. Happy reading, everyone! Don’t forget to give the ones you like some love!

I'm trying to find a bias in a.c.e and I was wondering if you can tell me what made you fall in love with all of them? Sorry if this seems random - you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

LIST EN I WANT TO THANK U FOR SENDING ME THIS MESSAGE BECAUSE I LITERALLY FEEL SO MANY EMOTIONS TOWARDS THESE BOYS AND I NEED AN OUTLET

Reasons why/how I fell in love with A.C.E

I’ll start with the five of them as a group and then move on to each member.

As a group:

  • They’re very? Laid back. It’s not always over the top excitement & random shenanigans with them. They have their moments where they’re very funny and goofy, but they are also very calm and peaceful too. As a whole group, I’d say they’re one of the most soft spoken groups I’ve ever been a fan of.
  • In that aspect, I feel at ease when I listen to them talk with each other. They’re very….idk how to properly explain it. They’re very chill? You can tell that they all listen to each other really well.
  • Their stage performance is no joke. The charisma they have when they perform is astounding for a rookie group. They seem to handle the nerves of going on stage really well.

Individual members under the cut because this is…gonna be a long one because the amount of love I have for these boys can’t be summarized

Hi friend TAKE TWO ON THE RIGHT BLOG THIS TIME! So I've been slowly listening to the podfic of World Ain't Ready (which is amazing, btw, go fulldaysdrive! \o/) and I have just arrived at the Coming Out Car Scene and I have a burning need to know about the offscreen moment in this universe when Enjolras first went OH NO I'M INTO HIM. I think you may have actually answered this before for someone, but I couldn't find it, so here I am asking again. :D

Heyyyy friend! :D

(oh man fulldaysdrive did such an amazing job, right??)

This week has been a little rough (nothing noteworthy, just, you know, living on the planet in 2017) so I’m gonna go ahead and take the opportunity to really luxuriate in one of my favorite topics: Teen Enjolras and his ridiculous feelings!

TOP TEN BUFFY SUMMERS SCENES ON BTVS (I know there's obviously more than ten so don't feel bad about only *listing* ten. ;)

Oh I love this! Buffy is my favorite character OF ALL TIME, so naturally I could list most of her scenes, but I managed to narrow it down to 10…plus 5! Okay I am just that pathetic that I needed 15…and a few honorable mentions. I’m sorry! I will just put them in chronological order, because ranking them would probably kill me!

1. Prophecy Girl - Buffy’s speech to Giles “Giles. I’m sixteen years old. I don’t want to die.” We had seen Buffy grapple with the balance of being a teenager and being The Slayer, but up until this point, it hadn’t been driven home completely. This scene broke it all open. It put in perspective just how young this girl is and how she was forced to give up her childhood and now, her LIFE. An extension to this scene is the way she marches off to face The Master, despite knowing she will die and then the bad ass bantering way in which she defeats him. “You’ve got fruit punch mouth.” “I may be dead, but I’m still pretty”

2. Becoming Part II -  The fight between Buffy and Joyce, “No, it doesn’t stop! It never stops! Do you think I chose to be like this? You have any idea how lonely it is? How dangerous? I would love to be upstairs, watching TV or gossiping about boys or… God, even studying! But I have to save the world. Again.” The weight of the world is on Buffy’s shoulders, as it always is, and she is pretty much losing everything. This showdown with her mom was long overdue, and the absolute heartbreak of knowing that this young woman has to endure even more suffering to save the world is unbearable. I have to include the other pinnacle moment from this episode as a Buffy fan…when Angelus is taunting Buffy, “No weapons… no friends… no hope. Take all that away and what’s left?” and Buffy simply replies “Me.” THAT is Buffy Summers. No matter what the circumstances, she is there standing between us and the forces of darkness and nothing can break her.

3. Helpless - Buffy is being drugged by Giles on behalf of The Watchers. Throughout the episode we get a chance to see how terrifying her job is without any special abilities. The moment she marches in to save her mother from a viscous, rabid vampire, with no super powers to speak of, gives me chills. She is so scared, but she is Buffy. That means she puts aside her fear and fights. It was an incredible moment which proved that Buffy did not need super powers to be a hero. It is her heart and her mind that made her strong.

4. Earshot - The speech Buffy makes to Jonathan in the tower. It was so incredibly poignant and relevant to teenagers and all humanity, really “My life happens, on occasion, to suck beyond the telling of it…sometimes more than I can handle. And it’s not just mine. Every single person down there is ignoring your pain because they’re too busy with their own. The beautiful ones, the popular ones, the guys that pick on you, everyone. If you could hear what they were feeling: the loneliness, the confusion…it looks quiet down there. It’s not. It’s deafening.” It is so profound, and it makes us all realize that we need to look beyond the surface and empathize with others and understand that we aren’t the only ones to shed tears.

5. Family - The way Buffy sticks up for Tara in this episode makes me cry every single time. Tara had just screwed up. She made a mistake that could have cost the scoobies their lives, and prior to that Buffy had already been failing to click with or really understand Tara. But she understood her in that moment. She saw a woman who was desperate to fit in and be “normal”, she saw someone who, while being different, was fighting similar demons as the rest of the scoobies. She saw a woman who was being abused by her own blood, and she stood up for her. She welcomed Tara into the family with open arms, “You want her Mr. Maclay? You can go ahead and take her. You just gotta go through me…You heard me. You want to take Tara out of here against her will? You gotta come through me.” Mr. Maclay: “You people have no right to interfere with Tara’s affairs. We are her blood kin. Who the hell are you?” Buffy replies “We’re family.” This is just so moving. Family isn’t about blood. It’s not what you’re born with. It’s what you make. Buffy is the greatest friend, and given the compassion and understanding Tara shows for Buffy when Joyce dies and when Buffy comes back from Heaven, you can really see how much this moment meant to Tara.

6. Checkpoint - The scene where Buffy confronts The Watchers Council, “I’ve had a lot of people talking at me the last few days, everyone just lining up to tell me how unimportant I am, and I finally figured out why…power. I have it. They don’t. This bothers them. Glory came to my home today…just to talk. She told me I’m a bug, I’m a flea, she could squash me in a second. Only she didn’t. She came into my home and we had what in her warped mind probably passes for a civilized conversation, Why? Because she needs something from me. Because I have power over her. You guys didn’t come all the way from England to determine whether or not I was good enough to be let back in. You came to beg me to let you back in, to give your jobs…your lives…some semblance of meaning.” Buffy coming to the realization that everyone was trying to cut her down because they were threatened and intimated by her power is amazing. She owns it so well.

7. Blood Ties - The scene in the hospital with Dawn, “It’s Summer blood. It’s just like mine. You ARE my sister.” The way Buffy assures Dawn that she IS her sister, and that she loves her, not because of her duties as The Slayer, but because of the connection she feels to her as a sister. Dawn didn’t have to start out as her family, but like with Tara, we see that origins are not something that concerns Buffy. Family is made not born.

8. Intervention - The final scene with Spike. Buffy pretends to be the bot to find out if Spike told Glory about Dawn. When she realizes he would rather die than reveal this secret, she understands for the first time that his love for her is in fact real, and she takes pity on him with the gentlest of kisses. “What you did for me and for Dawn…THAT was real. I won’t forget it.”, and she doesn’t. It is Spike that she continually trusts to protect Dawn in her absence, above all others. As a Spuffy shipper, this scene obviously is one of my favorites, but as a fan of Buffy it ranks up there too. Buffy values loyalty and with Spike she ends up finding the greatest partner in her fight. Side note: The revelation that death is Buffy’s gift and that she is so full of love that she pulls away from it are also really amazing.

10. The Gift - The whole episode really. “But you’re just a girl.” “That’s what I keep saying.” and the staunch way she fights Giles over Dawn when he dares to say Dawn is not her sister, “You’re right. She’s more than that. She’s me. The monks made her out of me. When I hold her…I feel closer to her than… It’s not just the memories they built. It’s physical. Dawn… is a part of me. The only part that I…” then later Giles says that everyone in the world will die, including Dawn, and her response is the most perfect thing, “Then the last thing she’ll see is me protecting her.”. I also really love her later speech to Giles, “I sacrificed Angel to save the world. I loved him so much, but I knew what was right. I don’t have that anymore. I don’t know how to live in this world if these are the choices, if everything gets stripped away. I don’t see the point. I just wish that…I just wish that my mom was here.” In Becoming, Buffy was able to kill Angel. It was black and white, but now the world is gray, and she is asked to kill an innocent, an innocent that she loves more than she has ever loved ANYTHING. Then of course we have the sacrifice and the speech, “"Dawn, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. But this is the work that I have to do. Tell Giles… tell Giles I figured it out. And, and I’m okay. And give my love to my friends. You have to take care of them now. You have to take care of each other. You have to be strong. Dawn, the hardest thing in this world… is to live in it. Be brave. Live. For me.” Buffy never hesitates to give her life. It’s who she is. I don;t think any scene on the series makes me cry as much as this one. The beauty that is Buffy Summers… The amount of love in her heart and the way she gives it all for the people around her… I’m going to cry now just talking about it.

11. After Life - When Buffy reveals the horrible truth to Spike, “I was happy. Wherever I was… I was happy… at peace. I knew that everyone I cared about was all right. I knew it. Time… didn’t mean anything. Nothing had form. But I was still me, you know? And I was warm. And I was loved. And I was finished. Complete. I - I don’t understand theology or dimensions, any of it really… but I think I was in heaven. And now I’m not. I was torn out of there. Pulled out, by my friends. Everything here is hard and bright and violent. Everything I feel, everything I touch. This is Hell. Just getting through the next moment, and the one after that. Knowing what I’ve lost. They can never know. Never.” The heartbreaking revelation that this hero who sacrificed herself was ripped out of the ultimate happiness and thrown back into her world of violence and death is just so painful, and it sets up the season and Buffy’s depression, perfectly. And of course, being Buffy, she is still trying to save her friends from the massive guilt and regret they would feel for what they did. Obviously, it really wasn’t Buffy’s time, and she recovers and finds the desire to live in the world again, but the pain of loss in this scene is just so intense.

12. Conversations with Dead People/End of Days - Getting to the root of Buffy feeling both superior and inferior, “I feel like I’m worse than anyone. Honestly, I’m beneath them. My friends, my boyfriends. I feel like I’m not worthy of their love. ‘Cause even though they love me, it doesn’t mean anything ‘cause their opinions don’t matter. They don’t know. They haven’t been through what I’ve been through. They’re not the slayer. I am. Sometimes I feel…this is awful…I feel like I’m better than them. Superior.” I always love the scenes when Buffy discusses what it means to be The Slayer and the complexities of it. I couple this one with the scene between Buffy and Faith in End of Days when Faith says “Me, by myself all the time. I’m looking at you, everything you have, and, I don’t know… jealous. Then there I am. Everybody’s looking to me, trusting me to lead them, and I’ve never felt so alone in my entire life. And that’s you ever day, isn’t it?” to which Buffy replies “I love my friends. I’m very grateful for them. But that’s the price…being a slayer.” Faith finally grasps the severity and pressure that rests with Buffy, and is such an honest scene and a great finale for their relationship.

13. Bring on the Night - The end speech…it is seriously one of the most epic scenes ever written. Buffy was beaten to a pulp, nearly killed, and she walks down those stairs and she faces the group with the most resolute conviction and strength that I have ever seen on my television screen and says ” I’m beyond tired. I’m beyond scared. I’m standing on the mouth of hell, and it is gonna swallow me whole. And it’ll choke on me. We’re not ready? They’re not ready. They think we’re gonna wait for the end to come, like we always do. I’m done waiting. They want an apocalypse? Oh, we’ll give ‘em one. Anyone else who wants to run, do it now. 'Cause we just became an army. We just declared war. From now on, we won’t just face our worst fears, we will seek them out. We will find them, and cut out their hearts one by one, until The First shows itself for what it really is. And I’ll kill it myself. There is only one thing on this earth more powerful than evil, and that’s us. Any questions?“ If that doesn’t make you love Buffy…if that doesn’t give you serious chills, there is something wrong with you.

14. Showtime - When Buffy faces off with the ubervamp (Chaka Khan lol) to teach the whiny potentials a lesson…it is pure genius and just SO Buffy Summers “I’m the thing that monsters have nightmares about.” All Buffy needed to find was her confidence. Whenever she sets her mind to something, she does it. It’s not about the weapons. It is all in her strength of conviction. She decided to slay the ubervamp to make a point, and she did just that. “Here endeth the lesson.”

15. Chosen - Buffy shares the power of The Slayer with all potentials. It is such a lovely and empowering moment seeing so many women finding their strength and rising up. The plan Buffy concocts and the way it is executed is so amazing. As is the way she builds the confidence of Willow and of Spike, who play key roles in the fight. The way the battle shifts according to Buffy’s state, when she is down her side starts losing. But when we see her rise up and tell the first to get out of her face, the entire game changes. Of course the moment she finally admits to herself and to Spike that she loves him, as their hands clasp in flames while she both cries and smiles is just poetry. The revelation is so true and so beautiful. And there is her smile at the very end, at the realization that she no longer has to carry the weight of the world anymore. Perfection.

So yeah, I managed to leave off a ton of scenes I love like the way Buffy chooses Xander/Willow as her friends in Welcome to the Hellmouth when she could have picked the in crowd. There is the wonderful scene in The Prom when her peers recognize her for everything she does or the way she finds her strength again in season 4’s “The Freshman”. There’s also the moments of her teaching Dawn and the potentials how to fight and the way she goes into the vineyard to face Caleb alone in Touched. Not to mention the scenes in season 7 where she champions for Spike now that he has a soul or the scenes in Wrecked/Same Time Same Place where she accepts Willow despite her magic issues, first helping her with the addiction then literally giving Willow her power to help her heal. Gosh there are just so many. This is why Buffy Summers is by far the most brilliant, amazing, loyal, strong, courageous, and complex character ever created.

Summary: After dating for almost 3 years, the armiys and Yoongi’s label have found out about your relationship. Now you have to deal with it in your extraordinarily normal life.

It was a supreme blessing that he had the next day off of performing. I knew later in the day Yoongi had to film some things for V Live and such, but he said I could tag along for those. I woke up first and it was about an hour before our alarm was set for. I wriggled out of his grasp and stood up, stretching as soon as my feet hit the carpeted floor. I tiptoed across the room to the mini fridge to search for possibly something to eat. I obviously knew he didn’t because he leaned on his bandmates for that. Hmm. That was a good idea. I was gonna go mooch.

I was just in one of his shirts at this point, so I pulled on the black robe he had so graciously hung in the closet and made sure to tighten it. I slipped on his slippers that were sizes too big on me and made sure to grab a room card. Surely one of the other boys rooms had to be close to here, so I guess I’d just- guess. I didn’t even bother trying to be quiet when leaving because I knew nothing could possibly wake him up when he knew he didn’t need to be.

I walked right across the hall to room 23 and knocked lightly on the door. When I heard movement in the room signifying someone was awake, I knocked a little bit louder. “(Y/N)?” I heard Jin’s accent clear as day. He opened the door and pulled me into a hug. “It’s good to see the reason I’m stuck sharing a room with Jimin.” I laughed. It would be just like Yoongi to request the solo room when it wasn’t his turn.

I ran over to Jimin who was sitting in a chair and basically tackled him. He laughed into whatever phone call he was in. “Yes, Alicia, she’s here and she’s okay. She’s also crushing my ribcage.” Leave it to them to be on the phone already. The two had become best friends since our first meeting and were inseparable even if they were countries apart. Most of the time I felt like I had two kids when I was around them together. Even the kind Jimin became a little demon with some pushing from the devil on his shoulder. “I’m gonna come see you during my break so we can see Guardians. You already saw it? Too bad, we’re going again. Haha, see ya.” Then he hung up and gave me a big squeeze.

“What are you guys doing today?” I asked, standing up and sitting onto one of their beds. It was made so I figured it was Jimin’s. Jin sat on the unmade one. Ahh, I was right.

“Well, we have filming later. I thought you guys were going to the movies?” Jimin asked, standing up and walking over to their fridge. He knew me too well, it was gross. “Iced Tea and frosted flakes good? We have milk too.”

“Yes, please. And something for the beast.”

“He’d be pissed if you ate and didn’t get him food.” Jin laughed. Jimin walked over with a handful of food and passed it over to me.

“Can one of you grab my keycard and swipe it for me? I’m not gonna be able to get it out with all of this food in my hands.” I stood up and Jimin grabbed it for me. “After you.” I chided and kicked the door open with my foot and he skipped over it holding the single card. I really should have had him carry the assorted breakfast packs and I just should have walked light of weight but I could never think that far ahead.

As I turned out the door, I dropped all of the food that Jimin had given me. There was my boyfriend standing in the doorway with a towel just sinking below his waistline as he pulled a cart of room service breakfast into the room. He winked at me and slipped into the room, dropping the towel outside of the door. Jimins sighed as he passed me up the keycard and he bent down to pick up all of the goods. “Prissy prissy, Yoongi…” He mumbled as I tightened the string wrapped around me on his robe.

“Sorry for being a pain in the ass!” I called and I jogged back to the room and let myself inside. “Please tell me you put on boxers.” I spoke as I didn’t even look in his direction but instead at all of the food he had ordered.

“You don’t wanna suck my cock for breakfast?” he teased, wrapping his arms around me and slipping off my robe. Before I could even protest he put one of his shirts over me and bent down to step my legs into a pair of panties. That means he definitely went into my suitcase and saw how much shit I packed. He was silently judging me and I knew it.

“Shut up.” I playfully hit his thigh and felt the fabric. Thank god. I leaned up and gave him a quick kiss. “Why are you awake?” I started to make a plate of food from the buffet he had ordered.

“We have a showtime to catch in an hour and a half. I gotta be ready.” He took the first plate I made, as expected, so then I began to make my own.

“Yoongi, I don’t understand Korean.”

“Lucky for you, you already saw it.”

The movie was great again and I stopped my complaining as soon as the trailers began, However, I found myself distracted. I could feel the eyes on the back of my head and it seemed that Yoongi was basically immune. He’d picked the best theater around and it just happened to be about an hour away from where he had to film. I had decided to tag along and chill behind the scenes but as my phone charged in the black van, I checked twitter. He was asleep on me, so it was okay.

“I knew it.” The whisper was soft.

There was a thread all throughout my mentions of the girl who was sat behind the ‘power couple’ at the movies. She’d started with that she wasn’t sure at first that it was him and I. He had a hat on, so she couldn’t see his hair color in the dark theater. Then he made some snarky comment and stared at me for my reaction. Then when I had turned to him, she’d caught a glimpse of my face and knew it. She put the thread in English and it was so broken, but I had the gist of it.

She had literally written down every detail of our date and it was almost terrifying. She wrote about how we shared the same drink and how during really funny moments Yoongi would lean over and translate for me. Every time I responded with I know and he just shrugged it off and continued to do it. She wrote about how he grabbed my hand a lot and rubbed over it with his thumb when our fingers weren’t laced together. She wrote about how I wouldn’t let him eat the popcorn before the trailers because I complained that he would eat it all before the movie even started. Then he bitched and bitched, but gave in. She wrote about how in love we seemed. How happy he was. How proud she was of him for being able to come out about the girl he loves and being confident with her. Confident about me.

I couldn’t decide if I should show him, but I knew that the boys would show him later so I didn’t bother. I kept glancing at him as he slept across my lap. His black jacket was unzipped, showing his plain white tee that he managed to make look like it was all that above his black jeans and black boots. His hat was on my head, the one with the rings on it, my favorite. He crinkled his nose every few moments and turned his head over and over. Everytime I fixed his hair because I knew it would bother me if it wasn’t perfect. He always appreciated that. Waking up with styled to perfection hair by yours truly. It was something so stupid, but he expected it at this point.

I was just in awe that he had dyed it mint green again. My favorite just to make sure this vacation with me was perfect. It’s like he knew I would come see him early and knowing him he did it while I was on my flight over. He was just so- exceptional. He made this whole distance thing easy and it was hard.

The worst was when it came to explaining him to my family. He’d met a good amount of them at this point, but at first they were very uneasy with it. My cousins would go on and on about how he was probably fucking someone else while he was on tour and my aunts and uncles thought I was crazy and joking for the first half a year of dating him. My grandmother was the only one who was so happy for me and filled with joy about me finding someone to love. Even if he was gone most of the time.

The first time I had mentioned meeting my family to Yoongi, he laughed his fucking ass off. He thought it was hilarious how I wanted them to meet him simply out of pettiness because they didn’t believe me. He declined and told me to ask him again when I wasn’t caught up in proving myself, but he swore up and down that he wanted to. I always believed him and there was never a doubt in my mind about that.

He first met them at my cousin’s wedding. I knew it was safe to bring him to this because nobody in my family had any clue about BTS or K-pop for that matter. He’d flew in early the morning of and had helped me do my hair. I was going to wear a dress, but he came in clutch with that too. He’d shown up with a silver and black dress that was very classy. Although, I was nothing compared to him. At this time he had black hair and he was dressed in Gucci just so I could show him off. He would never admit to me why he wore such an expensive suit, but I knew that was why. We always clicked over being petty.

I was knocked out of my thoughts by a familiar song. It was a Star Wars song, the Imperial March. I looked around in confusion only to see Yoongi’s phone lighting up. I shook my leg a little bit and leaned down to his ear. “Bear, you’re getting a call.” I nudged. He waved me off. “Honey beaaaaaar.” I dragged it out and he sat up. He kept his eyes closed and his face looked angry. Before he picked up the call I noticed that it was from skull emoji, skull emoji, skull emoji. So it was his label.

He answered and spoke with a nasty tone. I could only understand one thing of all of the shit he said in the 30 second phone call and it was “I’m on my way.” He angrily hung up the phone while I could hear another voice yelling coming through it and he store into my eyes. He reached his hand up and pinched my cheek then laid his head on my shoulder. He was gonna do this?

“What happened? Are you late for filming?” I shrugged my shoulder so he would get the message to sit up and look at me. He did.

“Nah, I thought that too. They’re mad I didn’t tell them I flew you out here and that I took my girlfriend on a date. Funny, isn’t it?” I felt an overwhelming feeling of regret run through me. So he’d gotten torn up because I wasn’t able to handle something. I suddenly felt his hand on mine rubbing around it and he peaked up to give me a small kiss. “Stop taking the weight of my job onto your shoulders. Forget all that shit and pay attention to me. I’m a bit of a narcissist so I’ll need it.”

I broke into full blown laughter and pulled him into another kiss. It ended there, along with him being conscious enough to speak to me. It baffled me how quickly he fell asleep after boasting about his own life. He was just so- cute. And he knew it too.

I ended up mostly on my phone as they filmed a gayo. I liked to watch them so I truthfully didn’t pay attention so I could be surprised later on. They were all so full of life in them and even excited to film them from what I overheard. I got lost in the world of memes and music until I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up from my screen to see one of the group’s managers. Great.

He motioned me to follow him and I did with the fakest smile I owned on. He led me out of the recording area and in the hallway. Then down it to an office. “Hey, how are you?” I was fake as hell, but I had to impress. Apparently, this was my boss too. I couldn’t help but to laugh at that one. Chul Bak was the name on the door. Ahh, this was one of their publicity people.

“I’m doing good. I see you and Suga are- doing good.” His sincerity was as real as mine. The higher ups never liked dealing with me too much. It wasn’t because I was this terrible person, but more of they didn’t like the idea of me. The idea that their precious Suga was in love with some normal American girl from New York.

“Better than ever.” I was snarky with that one, I didn’t mean to be. I just couldn’t help it. The amount of times this man and all of the others had begged me and bribed me to leave the love of my life was insane. Now, I guessed they were mad I was in Korea and not wallowing away in my hole of a town after their stunt.

“Suga invited you to set? And you two went out? Do you know how bad that-” I wasn’t in the mood.

“Do you know how bad it is for me that you tweeted out my job address? I can’t even do my fucking job.” I snapped. He was here to get mad at me for living my life when his team literally disrupted my alone life. They drove me to be in Korea for the final two days of the tour. They did this to me and he had the audacity to make me feel guilty about spending time with Yoongi.

He was silent for a moment. “Yes, we apologize for that. It was unprofessional.”

“And so is this meeting.”

Then I walked out of the room. Then down the hallway and out the door to the lot of studios outside. I was taking deep breaths and my exhales lasted forever. The door that had slammed behind me moments earlier opened again and slammed behind whoever walked out. I heard a huffing of breath and knew it had followed me.

“I figured you’d lose your cool.” he began. I crossed my arms and didn’t even turn to face him. “Listen here you little bitch.” Wasn’t surprised. Out of the building, off of the books. He wanted this. “You need to get off whatever high horse you’re on and stop mooching off of my group. You’re ruining them. I don’t care how much their little fans like you or anything, we don’t like you. We matter. We don’t give a flying fuck if you make Min Yoongi happy, we just care that he’s working and you’re a distraction.”

He paused for dramatic effect. “He doesn’t love you. He loves rebelling, darling. He’s the underground rapper bad boy that’s soft at heart. And he’s using you for attention. He’s an actor, an idol. His job is fooling the world and you’re just apart of it. So do yourself a favor and take these tickets.” He placed them by my feet. “And take that car over there and leave. Block his number and leave.”

Then he left me. The moment I was alone I sunk onto the pavement and sat on the curb. I didn’t believe him in any sense, but I couldn’t find any words to spite him with. All I could find was myself slowly breaking down from the stress and from being screamed at for simply existing. My hysterical crying began and my face was red from anger. If it could have turned blue, it would of too. Then maybe I’d be purple in this situation.

I was never this emotional. I had never cried as much as I had lately due to this shit going on. I was always strong and he fell in love with strong. The stringy mess I had been portraying myself of for the past 2 weeks was pathetic and I felt pathetic. Y/N Y/L/N was a strong woman who didn’t rely on anyone else for the majority of her life and it can’t end now.

Except for the fact that I was broke and I wanted to the pity. I wanted to be taken care of and to rely on another person instead of pulling myself back together again with shitty dollar store tape. I couldn’t do it alone anymore. I reached behind myself and tore up the ticket he left. Fuck that guy.

I dialed the number I knew by heart. I just couldn’t go back in there now. I took a large sniff to try to hide that I’d been crying before he picked up. “Hey!” he was out of breath. “Where’d ya’ go?”

“I’m uh-” I sounded sadder than I wanted too. “Needed fresh air, might be getting sick . It was stuffy in the-”

“You sound stuffy. “ he sighed, “What exit did you go out of? I’ll be there in 5 to go back to the hotel. I guess I can pack up the buffet to go…”

“I don’t want to ruin your set snacks.” Guilt.

“Nah, we can both enjoy it. Go to the car, actually. It’ll be easier. Don’t rub your eyes, they’ll be puffy all night.” Then he hung up with a quick love you before I could even respond. Always knew the way to my heart.

Then to the car I went. I was pretty sure he had no clue what had just happened to me and I was stuck on telling him or not. He’d just get angry and he had a temper most of the time. Then I’d end up apologizing and he’d get madder because I had no real right to be mad when I was the victim. Somewhere inside of me, I figured he’d know.

Minutes later when he got into the car, he knew. He totally knew. He was hysterical laughing. “So this guy that I’d only seen from a distance came up to me and apologized for my loss right-” he was speaking while chewing as well.

“Ah man.” I took a bite of the food. He had gotten a little bit of everything, but half the plate was mac and cheese. My favorite on set snack.

“And I was like what loss? What do you mean? And he was like ‘oh I saw Y/N outside and she was leaving with plane tickets without you’ and I was like huh?? Okay??? Alright. Then I told Namjoon to fire him because I didn’t want to deal with it anymore. I was in awe that he had said that to me, but what did he say to you?”

“I don’t think Nam can fire him, Yoos.” I looked at him and laughed. I was depressed before, but he always cheered me up. If I was his sun, he was mine too. We were both suns in this alternate universe I seemed to be living in. “He said you didn’t care about me.” He waved it off, almost choking from laughter and the food in his mouth.  “And he called me a bitch.” Then he stopped and swallowed whatever he had shoved down his tiny throat.

“He called you a name?” He put the plate down on the seat behind us and moved closer to me. His hand was rubbing my back while the other whipped out his phone and dialed a number. He never really liked to go above his leaders head so any bitching was done to Namjoon. It wasn’t like he didn’t know where to go, but he almost felt let it was disrespectful in a way.

“Hey, RM!” He started bright and cheery, which was different from the furious vibe he was giving off. “Yeah, I was totally serious before, you really need to fire that dude. He was lying and shit, yeah. But he fucking called her a bitch? You better talk to someone because if I ever see that man again I’ll probably beat the shit out of him and if he gets a punch in he’ll fuck up my face and it’ll be your fault that you made me talk to them. Thanks, bro. See you tomorrow.”

He smirked at me and stuck out his tongue, then his face became more compassionate than earlier. His hand was still on my back and he wrapped it around me and tugged me a bit closer. “That was hot, right?”

I sighed. “Whatever you say, stinky.” I leaned my head against his chest and I felt him sigh.. His eyes watched me and his now free hand went to my messy hair and combed through it. “Sorry if it’s knotty.” He laughed, it was always knotty. My hair sucked.

His phone made a bubble popping noise. His annoying text tone. His hand was out of my hair and right with his best friend. “The boys wanna know if you wanna get dinner tonight? They’re sad because they didn’t see you.”

“Yeah, of course. Do you have to come?” He scoffed, clearly offended. “I’m kidding, you baby. You can come, but do we have to go somewhere nice? You guys have a habit of taking me to places I can’t afford or even dress nice enough to belong in.”

“I’ll dress you, feed you, and impress you, just like I’ll do with our kids one day. Don’t call me a baby if it’s not in a hot way, c’mon.” He moved away from me and stretched, getting ready for his hundredth nap of the day. If anyone had a problem, it was him. Then there he was, on top of me again. He was passed out within moments, but his head was directly on my- you know- and I couldn’t move him. I was ready to die.

Once we got back to the hotel, I was the one to pass out while Yoongi slipped out of the room for some shopping for me. He had ripped open my luggage to see if I had anything suitable and I wasn’t quite sure why he looked. Of course I didn’t. He really wanted to have more faith in me than he should have.

Then I woke up to the most beautiful dress I had ever seen hanging on the wall in front of the bed. I shot up in shock and almost levitated towards it. The price tag was ripped off onto the ground. Clever of him, he knew if I saw the price I’d return it automatically, which could only mean it was expensive. Before even touching the beautiful gold champagne colored dress in front of me, I bent over and picked it up.

“Herve Leger Iman.” I read out loud, my voice was drowned out by the noise of running water in the bathroom. “Never heard of th- woah. Yoongi!” I yelled, bursting into the bathroom. “You spent 1,350 dollars on a dress for a dinner with your band?!”

His laughed echoed. “It’s a very nice dress, oh thank you Yoongi! I love you so so much!” he mocked me in a tone that sounded nothing like me. “And I love the other dress you got me for the concert tomorrow! I’m so glad you make sure I’m dressed nicely to be seen out in public with the idol Min Yoongi! You are so talented!” His voice became normal as he turned off that water. “Is what I expected. Now, go get dressed.”

Without a word, I walked out and stripped on my way to the dress. It was a beautiful metallic gold champagne, which was different than the mostly black dresses he bought me. It had a low, sweetheart neckline and tapered straps. Now, fully naked, I went into my suitcase to find the perfect beige bra and matching panties. With that, I scrambled for deodorant and pulled his big robe on again so I could do my makeup without destroying the beauty (and money) in front of me.

Even though this dinner was some fancy thing, I was far from it. My hair and makeup were boring, even though my dress was extravagant. I was feeling confident, however. I got my winged eyeliner right on the first shot. My hair wasn’t frizzy either, it must be the new country giving me good luck for once. I curled it with my wand and used a light amount of hairspray so it would hold in place for the night and I could just re-curl it tomorrow for their show.

“Yoongi!” I called for him as I unzipped the dress and stepped into it, “I need help with the zipper!” I held it up as I walked towards the bathroom door, banging on it. “C’mon, don’t make me go across the hall.”

No response. I groaned and grabbed a key card. I paraded out into the hallway, holding up my beautiful dress and banged on Room 23. Nobody answered the door there either, so I tried Room 21.

“Hello?” There was an unfamiliar voice as the door creaked open. “You’re the girl that ran into me last night!”

I stood in embarrassment. “Uh, sorry- I got the wrong room-”

His eyes were dark as he stepped towards me and I stepped in the opposite direction, my hand clenching tighter on the grip of my dress. “I mean, I’d let you run into me again, if you want that… I see you’re half undressed already.”

I always thought when I was faced with a situation I could get out of, I’d run away. That I wouldn’t stop like a deer in the headlights. It always seemed like such a weird thing when on tv or in a movie that a person would stop when faced with a situation they could have easily run from. Like a car coming at you from a farther distance or a man with a knife in front of you. Or this man.

This would have probably been the moment I would have died if a half dressed Jin didn’t run into the hallway moments after my perfuse banging on the door to pull me back into their room.

“Was I frozen?” I asked, barely understanding what had happened moments earlier. “Was I almost jus-”

“Yeah.” Jin’s voice was sullen and he zipped up the back of my dress without me even asking. He buttoned his pants and extended an arm towards me, which I gladly took. When we stepped back out into the hallway, the door for Room 21 was closed. I let myself back into my room and we gave each other silent nods. Jin and I had always been close. He always vibed as my other brother figure and I absolutely loved him for that.

Yoongi was standing in the center of the room, slipping to his shoes. “Where’d you go?” he asked, walking over to a mirror.

I cleared my throat, “I need the zipper pulled up, so I could put on my shoes. Jin… Jin helped me.” I wasn’t gonna tell him. I didn’t wanna ruin this night and make him stay in or get arrested. I’d be hated even more and my wings were perfect today, so I didn’t need it.

He ran over to the closet and I swear it was the fasted I’d ever seen him move. “You look amazing in that, but imagine how amazing you’ll look tomorrow in this!” He pulled out another dress and held it in front of his big gummy smile. Man, did he love spoiling me. He also loved making me embarrassed and he knew buying me things did just that. Especially if they brought attention to me, like this one would.

I knew that dress he was holding, It was a Monique Lhuillier Illusion Dress. It was almost 4,000 dollars and I’d pointed it out a few weeks ago to him, saying how beautiful and vibrant it was. Along with expensive. The color was what really intrigued me; It was called gunmetal. It was a midi dress with sequins. The color was a silver, blackish color with an illusion neckline. It was breathtaking and attention-stealing.

“And I got you these white heels to wear with it from payless.” He snorted. “I really went all out on those, let me tell you.” He hung the dress back up and I walked over to him in his Saint Laurent jacket and wrapped my arms around him. The two fabrics meeting was a harsh feeling, but I squeezed him as hard as I could.

“I love you.” I mused, looking up at his button face. He leaned down and kissed me then mocked me by repeating my words in his stupid voice. I just smiled instead of responding with something snarky as I pulled away. “Where are the shoes for this dress? I’d wear those white ones, but it would look super weird.”

He froze. “I may have forgotten to get you shoes for that dress.” We both took deep breaths and sharply exhaled at the same time. “…Are you gonna wear your converse.”

“I’m gonna wear my converse.” I spoke over the end of his sentence and his face was simply buried in his hands. Leave it to us to make a fancy dinner even better. Oh, twitter was gonna be fun tomorrow.

Of course, they were all dressed to the nine’s. They had all seemed to dress like they were headed to some award show tonight, but in reality it was a fancy dinner that I had deemed the pre end of tour dinner. They’d have another one of these tomorrow and knowing them it would be at some low scale place. They were chill guys for such ‘important’ people.

Being around the seven of them was always a joy. The absolute love and friendship they had for each other was so impressive. Especially the fact that they weren’t sick of each other yet. I’d seen them have their tiny arguments, but they always went back to being best friends in minutes. Back to being brothers in almost an instant.

They were the goofiest guys I’d ever been around and the most embarrassing people I could be with in public. For guys that were always in the back of someone’s mind and their vision in public, they were loud and obnoxious. We were at one of the fanciest restaurants around and they had just been told to quiet down and to please stop flinging food. They weren’t doing it to be rude. They just got so caught up in each other and being happy.

The waiter was completely starstruck when he first walked over to the table. He couldn’t believe all of BTS was out together and came to his job. Neither could his manager and neither could any of the waitstaff when they all gathered around. They were fawning over the boys and just in awe. Eventually, I asked Yoongi to ask them if they wanted me to take a picture of all of them with the boys.

When he asked, I could almost see them crying.  They were all eager, but I could tell none of them wanted to be that guy who asked for the picture. I was handed up 12 different phones and took about 5 pictures on each of them to be courteous. They all kept saying thank you in english and I couldn’t do anything except smile and nod my head to show that it was no problem at all.

Jungkook and I had ended up in an intense conversation about video games. Tae kept trying to butt in, but the younger one kept pushing him out. He kept calling him Gucci and shoving his face away. It was hysterical. Kook was to my left, while Yoongi was on my right. His hand was on my thigh 90% of the night, rubbing around it just for some kind of skin on skin. I had shook him off when he tried to hold my hand because he was sweaty and I didn’t need that right now.

“Stop kicking him out of the conversation, Kook. He knows his stuff too.” I finally defended the fashion forward man. “Who have you mained lately?”

Tae looked like he was extremely confused when I actually asked him a direct question. “Uh, uh, uh Reaper!” he yelled out, causing a large laugh from all 3 of us. “Yeah, Reaper!”

“You really know your stuff!” Jungkook said extremely sarcastically while mocking his hyungs exact tone over and over. What a kid.

“The question we’re all dying to know the answer to-” I heard Hoseok loud and clear from next to my boyfriend. “Why are you wearing converse?” We all erupted into laughter as Yoongi’s head clunked onto the table next to his plate.

“That would be my fault.” He lifted his hand into the air, waving it while wiggling his fingers. “It blanked on my mind when I saw this dress.” He sat back up and ran his hand, open palmed up my side. All the way to my shoulder and then back down to my thigh, not breaking contact. “Suddenly I had other things in my head than shoes.”

They all made wooing noises and I couldn’t help except to sigh and blush. For the quiet one, he was never too shy about his- personal life. At least, with them most of the time. The other part was him being extremely secretive and that was his favorite type of lifestyle. The lonely one.

Well, it used to be.

'Orphan Black' Creators Break Down the Helena Flashback Episode
SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you have already watched Saturday’s “One Fettered Slave” episode of Orphan Black. The penultimate episode of Orphan Black moved our story forward by once again lookin…

The penultimate episode of Orphan Black moved our story forward by once again looking back — this time providing a flashback episode for Helena to give us intel as to what turned her into a clone-killing assassin. That backstory was juxtaposed with a modern day escape plan to get Helena out of the clutches of the phony P.T Westmoreland and Neolution — an escape plan that was complicated by Helena going into labor.

With only one episode left to go, we spoke to Orphan Black creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson to get the inside scoop on this latest hour — which also included yet another death of a clone.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Here we are with the penultimate episode ofOrphan Black and you give us a big flashback download episode for Helena. Why do it and why do it here, so close to the end?

GRAEME MANSON: We really talked a lot about bringing the original twin clones back together — that’s Sarah and Helena — so the episode is really driving them back together after Mrs. S’s death, and this year we wanted to do these deeper episodes where we dive deep into the characters and maybe reveal something to the audience that they didn’t know about them. And we figured that Helena was the perfect one to really start to climax the whole series really, and to bring her closer to her sisters and to bring her a little closer to the Clone Club, who seem to love Helena so much.

JOHN FAWCETT: We’d always talked about Helena’s backstory and how she grew up with the nuns and how she was trained by the Proletheans to kill, and we always knew that if we were going to do flashbacks for Helena that those were the things that we really wanted to illustrate, and so it’s really exciting that we finally wound up with a Helena centric episode that we could do it in.
