pro freedom of religion

Why the Anti Hobby Lobby bullshit needs to stop. Once and for all.

There’s a few things you need to educate yourself on before you jump on the bandwagon of people who have twisted the real information to make it sound like the end of the world, when it’s absolutely not.

“Hobby Lobby is denying their employees the right to buy birth control”

“Apparently, religious freedom is having your morality forced on my health choices.”

HOBBY LOBBY IS PERSONALLY AFFECTING ME AND MY BODY EVEN THOUGH I DON’T EVEN WORK THERE AND I LIKELY DON’T EVEN SHOP THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!1!!1111

What ACTUALLY happened:
The government was trying to force Hobby Lobby to cover certain types of Birth Control that instead of preventing pregnancy, they kill the already-conceived embryo in the womb. To the owners of Hobby Lobby, this is considered abortion, which they do not support. Being forced to cover these contraceptives would mean they would have to buy these things for their employees and supply them for free. SCOTUS recently ruled this to be unconstitutional.

Why the above quotes are complete misinterpretations by uneducated people, or otherwise are flat out lies:

  1. Hobby Lobby is a small, privately owned business that the government should have no say or control over whatsoever. If they hadn’t overstepped those boundaries in the first place, we wouldn’t even be in this situation.
  2. Hobby Lobby has always been, and still pays for 16 out of the 20 required types of birth control under Obamacare. They have an objection to four of them, specifically the morning-after pills. I repeat, “HOBBY LOBBY STILL COVERS ALL BUT FOUR TYPES OF BIRTH CONTROL. FOUR.”.
  3. Most importantly, Hobby Lobby is fighting for the right not to have to buy things against their religion for their employees. That means they are NOT preventing their employees from buying the products themselves. They not BANNING their employees from getting or using birth control, and they are not taking it away from anyone.
  4. They are CERTAINLY not preventing YOU or ANYONE ELSE who is not even associated with the company from using birth control. They are NOT affecting you or your health choices. You act like Hobby Lobby is literally breaking down your door and stealing your pills.
  5. Obviously, this does not mean all the birth control in all of America is now banned. I don’t know where you people are getting this from.

So, congratulations. If you don’t work for Hobby Lobby, you are not affected in any way, and if you do work there, you just have to buy your own damn abortion pills.

STOP BELIEVING AND SPREADING LIES. I’m getting REALLY sick of hearing them.

I saw your ask about Islamophbia/Free Speech. I'd like to add that in France racist speech is punished by law. We believe in the simple fact that your freedom ends where another's person freedom begins. Not that hard to understand ffs.

Where is the justice for the people murdered and attacked and the religious centers burned and vandalized, if that’s true? Clearly racist speech is not punished by law, because Charlie Hendon was still in operation. Much of what they published was in fact racist speech… what the fuck is your definition of “racism” that you think it isn’t?

And you know what? It is hard for me to understand. It’s hard for me to understand the entire logic behind “freedom ends where another person’s freedom begins”.

Is my ability as a woman to choose to have an abortion impeded if my choice does not meet the religious ideals of a pro-choice man? His freedom of religion begins there.

As a bisexual, should I not be allowed to marry anyone I wish? It should be my freedom to do so. Why is it illegal, then?

It’s because that fucking line is so skewed and grey. Who decides where my freedom ends and another’s begins?

I’m sorry that your internalized hatred and racism is so deep-seated to the point that you’re blind.

If you are unfortunate enough to live close to a Hobby Lobby (they snuck one in here in Burbank, those dingleberried douchebags) here is a list of other hobby/craft type shops you can patronize that DO NOT shove their religious views into their employees’ health care decisions.
