Increasingly sensitive to the trauma heaped on Derek in his youth - frequently mentioned or added to in the show, but never directly addressed - fans began to spin new tales of his process of recovery and self-healing. Fandom’s Derek Hale learned how to trust, how to love, and how to ask for what he needed, even if it went against what he thought others wanted from him.
Stiles has simple goals in life. To successfully complete his secret radar project without getting fired, to get a cottage on the Moon, and to untangle his mess of feelings for Moon Station 3 deputy, Derek Hale. Heck, he’ll even settle for two of the three.

“Hey, Scott, so, I uh, there’s this amazingly hot guy and I’m uh, gonna spend the weekend with him but, you know, just to be careful, I’m sending you his picture, so if by some terrible chance my bloated corpse shows up sometime Monday, just, y’know pass this along to the authorities.” He pauses. “Uh. Kidding?” and then hangs up with a rush of air.“That is the worst voicemail in the history of voicemails,” Derek says.
In which Derek has been invited to the Greater Pacific Northwest Alpha Symposium (that’s not what it’s called, Stiles, stop saying that), and showing up unattached would mean an arranged marriage. When the rest of the pack objects, he agrees to let Stiles come along to pose as his mate. Derek is reasonably sure that he’s not going to make it out of this weekend alive.
Uncle Peter’s spent years regaling Derek with tales of his time as President of the Alphas. Derek’s paid close attention, because Peter’s stint as President is a pretty comprehensive guide on ‘How to Successfully Run a Fraternity into the Ground,’ so Derek plans to do the opposite of what Peter did.***A Derek POV to There is a Brotherhood. It only took a few sentences of In Other Words, Baby, Kiss Me for me to be completely hooked. The writing itself is beautiful, and the world built around these familiar characters is entirely unlike anything else I’ve read in the fandom. primulavulgarises has an effortless way of capturing the main pairing’s personalities, without sacrificing any of the side relationships. This story has one of my personal favorite portrayals of Scott - he’s capable in a way the fandom doesn’t always allow him to be (while still being adorably ridiculous at times - the packing scene is genius), and his friendship with Stiles is perfection.
I also love, love, LOVE the Earth/Moon push/pull between Stiles and Derek. It’s such a clever rethinking of that AU dance of whether to keep Derek’s identity as a werewolf intact. Here, the moon is as intrinsically tied to his blood; it’s an intriguing way of playing with that dynamic within a human context. I developed incredibly strong feelings about Derek early on, even though we don’t actually spend much time with him in the middle section of the story. Primeroseshows has such a wonderfully light touch - not smashing readers over the head with feelings and revelations, yet somehow weaving together a clear sense of who Derek is, and all the bits of him that Stiles hasn’t been reading correctly, or that he’s finally realizing he wants to explore more.
