Jane Austen is such a brilliant author and I love her to bits!!
I haven’t got all of her books yet but God am I working on it!!
Pride and Prejudice.
Sense and Sensibility.
~By Jane Austin )
“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.”
I’m so angry. Why is Pride and prejudice not a more popular love story than Romeo and Juliet??!?!?!? It has actual character development and growth and the romantic leads know each other for months before falling in love! And they can’t stand eachother at first and they actually find out about eachothers past and hopes and dreams and things they enjoy. And they’re sassy and Darcy is a total dork who doesn’t know how to talk to people and then there’s Bingley and Jane!
The “love at first sight where (one of) the families dissaproves but they fall in love anyway” story except they actually spend time together and go past the “hey you’re hot” stage.
Also! It was published in 1813! And there’s strong female characters who are faced with the issue of losing everything if they don’t get married before their father dies and yet they (elizabeth) refuse! They are not treated as lesser and the men do their best (it’s okay Darcy you’re trying) to charm the women.
And then there’s Wickham! The stupid ass of a soldier who took advantage of teenage girls who in this society need a husband. He’s forced to marry Lydia as to not ruin any other girls reputations. Not quite the best form of punishment but at least he was held accountable for his actions which for the time was a big deal.
Lastly everyone is just so sassy and beautifully written like…
“My courage always rises with every attempt to intimidate me.”— Elizabeth Bennet
“Do not consider me now as an elegant female intending to plague you, but as a rational creature speaking the truth from her heart.” — Elizabeth Bennet
“I could easily forgive his pride, if he had not mortified mine.” — Elizabeth Bennet,
“What a delightful library you have at Pemberley, Mr. Darcy!” “It ought to be good,” he replied, “it has been the work of many generations.” -mr Darcy
“May i present Mrs Bennet, Miss Bennet Miss Bennet and Miss Bennet"
“Are we to recieve all the bloody Bennets in the county?” -Caroline Bingly (possibly from the movie only but i haven’t read the book since i was in 4th grade so i can’t remember but i don’t care i love it!)
I just have a lot of Pride and Prejudice feelings… also i want to marry Mr Darcy.
