Separation

Something Tom said on facebook this morning reminded me of what I was thinking about last night: “Sin does not separate you from God. Not a single thing in this universe or in any realm can separate you from Him.”

In fact in RS (Religious Studies, I live in the UK and it’s part of the National Curriculum), and also in Churches, we are taught that there is a gulf between us and God. That gulf is sin. Jesus made a way across the gulf.

Trouble is, we have a skewed view of this. All we see is the gulf. We feel that when we sin, our Jesus bridge is removed and we can’t get to God, or the bridge is a little wobbly. It’s not true.
If I do something wrong, I always feel like I have to apologise to God (fair enough) but I also always feel further away from him, like I’ve taken a few steps back.

But I was thinking about this, and that is a lie. Nothing we can do, changes who God is or how much he loves us. Romans 8 talks about how all the things that can’t separate us from God. It specifically reminds us that we are not under the rule of flesh, but under God.

Awesome. Something we have to accept for ourselves. (But even if we can’t, our unbelief can’t even separate us from God! And that’s amazing!)

If anyone wants to ask me any questions or wants prayer or a chat, I’m always around.
