Part 1 | Series Masterlist

Tony brings you back to his lab, even though he has a broken window in here. He needs to find out what you are before something bad happens, so he puts you down on an empty iron table and examines you with his hands crossed over his chest.

“Friday, is it impolite to take blood samples from an unconscious person?” Tony asks his A.I. although he doesn’t really care about it’s answer.

“Sir, I think you already know the answer,” Friday replies not wanting to respond truthfully, because she knows him and she knows he will do it anyway.

“Well thank God I’m not Rogers,” Tony remarks and takes the injection he prepared to himself while Friday was answering him.

He turns your arm towards himself and prepares it for the injection, but when he tries to inject the arm for the blood samples, the needle breaks. He makes a confused noise and tries to inject your arm. It breaks again.

“What the hell?” he mutters looking at you. You are peacefully sleeping, ignoring everything around you, your breaths steady, Tony returns your arm back to its place.

“I’m already running scans, Mr Stark. It seems that miss y/n is completely fine. No injuries, no scratches, but my system says she doesn’t exist,” Friday interjects Tony’s thoughts, and he flinches, because the A.I. startled him.

“Then what am I supposed to do?”

“Wait until she wakes up, sir?”

“Fine,” he sighs, rolling his eyes.

You wake up, feeling cold on your back you shiver, not opening your eyes yet.

You groan at the unpleasant feeling, and Tony snaps his head in your direction, wearily observing you, because he’s been sitting here watching over you for a few hours now.

“What are you?” Tony demands and you immediately open your eyes, sitting up on the table you were laying on.

Looking straight into his eyes you answer. “Human. I think.”

Then it hits you like a train. You were falling down the tower. Did Tony catch you? Is it why you’re here? But why would he ask you ‘what are you’ if he caught you?

“I was falling down, was I?” you mumble quietly. Tony almost doesn’t catch it, but nods afterwards.

“What’s your name, at least?” he asks again, now less demandingly, because of your confused look you gave him after he nodded.

“Y/n y/l/n,” you reply shyly. You are talking to Tony Stark and you haven’t fainted yet, how is that possible?

“No record of y/n y/l/n, sir,” the british voice rings through the room and you try to find the source of the sound. You’ve always wondered if there are any real speakers that Friday speaks through.

“Where are you from?” this is probably gonna be something like an interrogation.

“Earth, it should be Earth. But I suppose it’s not this Earth. It’s a different Earth. Like a different dimension. It’s like in the comics. You guys have a lot of different universes, it’s the same, isn’t it?” you ramble, but then you realize that Tony doesn’t know what you are talking about. It’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe, of course they don’t have Marvel comics here!

“Ummm?” he hums, his brow arches up, the confusion in his eyes visible.

“It’s complicated,” you state. “I just came through a weird portal and here I am.”

“Okay, so, you said you’re human, right?” he asks and you nod, humming in agreement. “Then how did you survive the fall?”

You freeze. He didn’t catch you. You fell down. You didn’t die. You are somehow alive after you fell down. How’s that possible?

“I don’t know,” you admit, shrugging.

“Is there even a way to find out?” he asks, it’s more of a question for himself, but it still makes you think. How am I alive?

“I suggest we should wait for the Avengers to come back, sir. Inform them about an invincible individual, and then find out what may her other superpowers be,” Friday speaks again, but it sounds logically. You nod, accepting her idea.

“Fine. We can wait. But ’till then, I want to know everything about you and the Earth you live in. Or you were living in?” Tony sighs and stands up. You nod while he walks up to you.

“Wait,” you suddenly stop him and he quirks his eyebrow up at you. “The Avengers. Which Avengers? I mean… as members,” you ask and Tony nods understandingly, looking at your tee.

“Cap, Nat, birdboys, Rhodey, Vision, Bucky, Wanda, and her annoying twin,” he answers your question and you look up at him, standing up from the iron table you are sitting on.

“Pietro is alive?”

“Why wouldn’t he be?”

Pietro haven’d died in here. It’s not entirely MCU. It means that maybe the Civil War happened differently. It would make sense, since Steve and Bucky are Avengers and everyone except for Thor and Bruce are here. Thor and Bruce are most likely occupied with Ragnarok and Hela.

“Hey! No, no, no! I told you, I wanna know everything. That means even why you thought that Pietro is dead,” Tony declares confidently, pointing his index finger at you. “Everything.”

You sigh and get into explaining. How are you a fan of the MCU movies and all of the Avengers, and not really Avengers. How you know everything and anything about them. How a mysterious portal appeared on your backyard and you entered it, though you had some doubts.

Tony only nods at everything you say, thinking about it.

“Mhhm,” he hums. “And who is your favourite Avenger. Or maybe just your favourite person from here?” he questions, staring at you. You don’t wanna answer this. You like Tony, a lot, but when it comes to choosing favourites, your all time favourite are probably Steve, Bucky, Wanda and Nat. However, then there are characters like Pietro, Loki, him, Thor, lil’ Pete Parker, Doctor Strange and a lot of other characters. So simply, you couldn’t choose.

isn’t naturally inclined to research and learning… inclined towards control.. ignores boundaries… dictate his friends’ life… exerts influence… has only a narrow circle of friends, because that’s the only way he can keep a lid on things… desperate to maintain control…

Does PEW even realize he’s literally describing canon! Scott McCall though? 👀

Because it was PEW I knew immediately he was on Stiles’ jock, but reading it I was like… this is Scott, like 100% Scott.

He’s completely entitled to his read of Stiles, but his increasingly negative opinion is worrying. For example this:

Season 1, when presented with a change in his best friend, he immediately begins research.  Stiles isn’t naturally inclined to research and learning (that’s Lydia), Stiles is inclined towards control.  It’s why he ignores boundaries to listen in on his father’s calls, read his father’s mail, dictate his father’s diet and his friend’s life.   He gathers information obsessively because that allows him to exert influence.

He says Stiles isn’t inclined to research (which has been disproven countless times on the show, even starting with Stiles’ focused paper on circumcision, and when has Lydia researched? She’s “known” things, but they don’t go to her for that. They go to her for her intuition.), but then lists ways that Stiles researches, and then says he “gathers information” (ie… researching).

However, again we have an issue of cause and effect.  HE’s assigning near nefarious intentions to Stiles’ methodology when Stiles has clear cut reasons for doing the things he does.  He listens in on his father’s calls/reads mail/dictates his dies etc, because he already lost one parent and the other parent took a nosedive causing Stiles to have to take control to save his family.  I don’t really see evidence of him trying to control Scott’s life, but he’s definitely going to question his decisions because he almost lost his friend and he’s scared for his life.

I don’t understand the need to try and villainize someone who is clearly not a villain.  Or trying to paint someone with a conspiratorial brush that just doesn’t exist.  Stiles is nothing but open and there’s not a time when he’s gone behind anyone’s back to accomplish some goal.  Not like Scott.

Decided to throw them all in one post rather than spamming you guys with individual posts.

hi there! what's problematic about the phrase "women and femmes"? a lot of queer-identified folks i know use it a lot when referring to patriachial oppression, and at first it made sense to me but now i'm not so sure it does. thanks!!

femme is a specific identity that arose in a particular context within working-class communities in the 1930s & 40s centered around dating & having sex with other women & it’s silly to use it as a catch-all term for “feminine” (although I recognise that saying this is fighting a losing battle, lmao).

using “femme” to vaguely mean “feminine / feminine-presenting people” is 1. to misappropriate that terminology and 2. (and more importantly at this point imho) to imply that femininity or feminine presentation are hallmarks of “real” women, as positioned against gender nonconforming & butch women (who are decried for being “masculine” and therefore basically men). holding up “femininity” as a prerequisite for womanhood is, besides being flat-out misogynistic, always going to exclude and demonise lesbians (because even femmes aren’t acceptably feminine & are gender nonconforming in many aspects of their behaviour), & especially butches.

and my personal challenge to myself is how to use the box panel I drew up to present each theme!

  • Day 1 - Stars/Astrology ( I just had to use their zodiacs once we found out their Birthdays. )
  • Day 2 - First/Casual Date ( Akko couldn’t think of anything fancy so she decided to just have a date in the nearby town from Luna Nova. Also she may have under dressed a bit… )
  • Day 3 - Cuddles ( Akko slept over in Diana’s room for two days of studying and she’s being distracting. )

SiriusXM Presents Harry Styles // Hits 1

Written for the first day of Sterek Week ‘17: Alpha and Emissary! I hereby present to you 1.5k of werewolf speed dating :D

It’s that time of year again: no, not Halloween. It’s the weekend of the Great North Atlantic Supernatural Mixer.

Or, as Erica likes to call it: speed dating for overpowered Alphas and snooty Emissaries.

Derek has been going since he became an Alpha, and each and every year he came home alone again, much to the disappointment of his pack. He’s not really feeling much hope for this year either.

The connection between Alpha and Emissary is the most important one in the pack. They have to be able to trust each other implicitly as neither can just order the other into submission for the pack structure to uphold. The Alpha Emissary relationship does not have to be romantic in nature, but it often tends to be, given how close they have to be to work together seamlessly as a team.

And Derek just hasn’t ever met anyone he had been able to even remotely imagine building that kind of relationship with. There have been a few Emissaries who approached him, drawn in by the weight that the Hale name still has in the supernatural world, or by the sweet call of money. Some were obviously just after a sexual relationship, attracted to Derek’s body and not interested at all in his mind or heart. It always takes all of Derek’s control to get through the weekend without starting a feud with an easily affronted Emissary. And never has he ever felt inclined to approach anyone himself.

what kinda headcanons? I'll chuck some out see if you like any of them: klance as parents, first paladins, victuuri as an old married couple, hunk and pidge friendship, lotor's generals

All of these are rad… I think I’ll definitely have to do Hunk and Pidge as friends eventually… but for now have some Klance as parents headcanons.

  • Fun dad. King of bedtime stories and surprise tickle fights when his kids come around the corner.
  • Performing arts dad - buys all the tutus, bedazzles the tulle, helps his daughters with their makeup back stage.
  • Lets his daughters practice their makeup skills on him
  • *sneaking up on Keith after the girls have gone to bed* “Oh my god, you’ve been attacked” “Am I a pretty boy?” “Do not kiss me with thatLANCE NO! NO NO NO!”
  • Makes sunday brunch every weekend.
  • Fashion dad - “Keith don’t let them dress themselves!” “What, they look fine.” “They’re wearing plaid with polka…! Oh my god! Jeanie come here!”
  • Cries a lot. “I’m just so proud!” “Babe… they’re just graduating to middle school.”
  • Hilarious. So fantastic with kids. All of his daughter’s friends adore him. They get excited every year when career day rolls around and they know Lance is going to come in and tell some awesome stories about space.
  • “Did you meet any aliens?!” “Sure did, and I married the prettiest one.” All the kids laugh. They have no idea.
  • Rubs his scruffy cheek on his daughter’s faces.

  • Discipline dad. Genuinely terrifying. No one crosses him.
  • Soft and quiet generally. Pulls his daughters on to his lap frequently to talk about their day or lecture them about safety.
  • Lance may help his daughters with their makeup, but Keith always does their hair. Their friends are jealous of their perfect ballerina buns.
  • “Needs more glitter” - Keith, pulling out a can of glitter hairspray.
  • While the other kids might adore lance, they are in awe of Keith. He’s an urban legend. So cool! Did you know Keith rides a motorcycle and wears a leather jacket? That’s nothing, I heard he wrestled a bear with a plastic butter knife and a pencil!
  • No one plays the “My dad could beat up your dad” game with Keith’s daughters.
  • Protective dad - “Macy better watch herself, Mark! If I see her check my kid again…!” “Babe… it’s peewee hockey.”
  • When his daughters are of dating age, Keith gives the boyfriend’s THE TALK.
  • His daughters are armed and dangerous. They’ll kill you in a parking lot with just their car keys. Don’t touch them.

As a pair

  • Really gross. So in love. Will frequently kiss in front of their daughters to gross them out.
  • “Aren’t you glad that your dads love each other?” “Yes but can’t you just… do that in private??” “We do other things in private.” “DAD!!”
  • Birthday parties are a BIG FUCKING DEAL. Lance and Keith throw the most banging parties. Giant birthday cake by Hunk? Check. Petting zoo? Check. Water balloon fights? Check. Bonfires and smores? Check check. Funny ghost stories where the ghosts spook children with farting? … check.
  • Attend every single piano recital, ballet performance, hockey game, and school play.
  • Argue with PTA moms.
  • Whenever their daughters have a particularly awful tantrum. “You know they get this from you. This is your Galra side coming out.” “They’re adopted, lance.” “I stay by what I said”.
  • Halloween family. Lance is really into it and goes out of his way to plan and make everything, but Keith’s quietly competitive nature always gets the best of him.
  • “We’re the best looking family out tonight.” Keith whispers. Lance beams. “DAMN RIGHT!”
  • Always support each other’s decisions. They are a pair united. Their daughters tried to pull the “But papa said…!” On them once. once. It did not go well. “Lance did you agree to this?” “What?! No!”. Cue Keith’s disapproving face.
  • Build treehouses and swing sets together.
  • Fall asleep on the couch every Christmas eve after staying up til 3am wrapping presents.
  • Buy each other #1 Dad mugs.
  • Introduce themselves to their daughter’s teachers every year.
  • Keith takes Lance’s  last name.

The Situation in Catalonia right now

Ok so I think this is important.

As you may (or may not) know, Catalonia is a “Spanish province” which has been fighting for independence for many years. There have always been people opposed to this (both people living in Catalonia as people living in Spain) but the truth is, a referendum was organised today in order to vote.

Now you all know how Democracy™ works, right? The Catalans actually have THE RIGHT to vote for independence and organise a referendum for that purpose. But, the Spanish constitution doesn’t give them that power. So if the Spanish government decides that Catalunya can’t hold a referendum, that’s it. Still, a lot of Catalans feel that democracy should rule over the constitution. I mean - sure. Some people want to vote YES and others NO… and that’s okay… both options are okay… the thing is, Spain took away their - our - right to vote.

October the first (1-O) has become an historical day for Catalonia. Just last week the Guardia Civil (Spanish police) was sent in masses towards Catalunya to “control all the violence the voting would present on 1-O”. The Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont, told everyone to remain calm… we were going to vote and we were going to do so in peace. There would be no riots, no open war - just peaceful demonstrations. Spain forbade the Catalans from having the referendum and ordered the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) to see that all the schools where the votings would take place remained shut during this historical day.

The Mossos refused. Of course they did, that order wasn’t even legal. But this morning, when Catalans came to vote peacefully, the Spanish police intervened and did a few of the following things:

- Stand guard in front of schools so that no one could vote.

- March up to people who tried to vote and hurt them.

- Use weapons like rubber bullets which are ILLEGAL in Catalunya.

- Beat people up, pull their hair, throw them down stairs, send them rolling across the street and kicking them in the guts.

- Beat up old people and leave them bleeding.

And many other horrible things. This was a peaceful act of democracy from the Catalans. The Spanish police had no right to do this… No one has the right to do this ever.

The Spanish are not to blame. Their government is. Many Spaniards were horrified today when they heard about what was happening. This is bigger than the independance… it’s about the right to vote either one thing or the other without being afraid for your life.

At 8 pm the votes closed and they’re counting right now. As someone who wants independance, I sure hope the final result will be YES. But it’s going to be real scary from now on.

I wanted to spread some awareness because to be honest, no one seems to know this is even going on right now.

The results aren’t known yet but I’ll keep this updated.

The toll of wounded people is higher than the international news is telling you.

Careful with the information on American TV. Trump supports the Spanish government. Information may not be 100% accurate. Remember: the Catalans did not commit an act of violence. The Spanish government did.

nct lyrics are so intellectual like the song could just be an air horn for 4mins and the lyrics would be like Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future.[1][2][3] Time is a component quantity of various measurements used to sequence events, to compare the duration of events or the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change of quantities in material reality or in the conscious experience.[4][5][6][7] Time is often referred to as the fourth dimension, along with the three spatial dimensions.[8

ruby-orchideous  asked:

is there a sort of cheat sheet of when to use each spanish tense?

There’s not a hard and fast cheat sheet exactly, and it’s easier to understand in context and with examples but I’ll go over what I can as quickly as I can.

This is going to be very informal and possibly have some typos so bear with me.

I did a bigger post on all of this for my masterpost if you want to see a really longer and more in-depth version with more sources and posts

First, moods. Because the linguistic moods encompass different tenses and you sort of have to know them.

Indicative is honestly… so hard to describe. Because it’s really just anything that isn’t subjunctive or imperative. It’s used as basic statements that are clear and contain no doubt [subjunctive], and they’re not commands [imperative]. The indicative mood contains the majority of all the tenses you’re going to learn in Spanish. Some of these tenses are easier to understand than others.

Honestly, just think of indicative as not subjunctive and not imperative. Its characteristics are so hard to point at like “there! that’s what it is!” so it’s easier to say what it isn’t.

Anyway, here are all the tenses that show up in indicative.

  1. Present
  2. Preterite
  3. Imperfect
  4. Future
  5. Conditional
  6. The Perfect Tenses*
    Present perfect
    Future perfect
    Conditional perfect

*Perfect tenses are as indicative as you want them to be, more on that later

The subjunctive mood is used most often with the idea of doubt. That’s not all it is, but it’s doubt, subjective opinions, polite requests, contrary to fact statements, hypothetical situations.

The subjunctive is easiest to understand when it uses a compound sentence, with one subject acting on the other. For example quiero ir “I want to go” is indicative because it’s what one person wants themselves to do.

Subjunctive in its easiest to understand form is something like quiero que vayas “I want you to go” where it’s one subject acting on the other.

Subjunctive is also used in expressions like “wherever”, “whatever”, “whoever”, “whenever”, “even though”, and can sometimes be used with the words cuando and si and aunque which are a little iffy.

There are certain phrases that are subjunctive as well, but that’s a bigger thing.

  • Present subjunctive
  • Imperfect subjunctive
  • Future subjunctive [now obsolete, mostly]

Probably the easiest mood to understand. Imperative is used for commands. Affirmative ones are “do it”, negative ones are “don’t do it”.

There does exist an imperative-subjunctive hybrid known as “indirect commands” which are politer than a rough command would be. Subjunctive does polite requests where straight up imperative can sound forceful or brusque. Instead of saying something like habla “speak”, you could say que hables which is “speak” but in a politer way and can sometimes be translated as “may” like… que sean felices “may they be happy”

  • Affirmative commands
  • Negative commands

It’s so easy to understand what imperative mood is that I’m going to leave it here like this and talk about everything else instead. Affirmative and negative commands are really easy to understand.

1. Present Tense

I don’t even know how to properly explain present tense because it’s just so… present tense. It’s things that exist in the present as statements, basic facts, pretty much the same as English present tense. “I am”, “you are”, “they go”, “we see”, the most basic of the basic and it implies there is no change in them as far as it’s not happening in the past, and we’re not really discussing future.

Present tense for Spanish gets a little iffier in that it can also be used for “continuous present” and that means that the present tense can be used alongside or in place of the progressive forms.

Like nado “I’m swimming” can be used interchangeably with estoy nadando “I’m swimming”. The only real difference is that the progressive forms (-ando, -iendo, sometimes -yendo) can be used in different tenses [estaba nadando “I was swimming”] but it depends on the verb of motion… it expresses continuous motion or movement regardless.

And there are times when present tense is used for short-term future. Like voy a Italia “I’m going to Italy” is implied to be the near future while iré a Italia “I will go to Italy” in future tense expresses more long-term plans.

2. Preterite

The preterite tense [sometimes known as “simple past”] is best understood as completed actions that happened in the past that are uninterrupted. They are used for how things were in a particular moment, and is most often used in definite time phrases where you see a date or time or particular “moment” mapped out. Preterite can be a little clinical if used just by itself, but it’s best for definite facts.

3. Imperfect

The term “imperfect” means an action that is not yet completed. It’s something that was happening before something happened. You use it for narration and description, but there are certain expressions that you only use imperfect for.

For example, imperfect can carry the meaning of “used to (do something)” and that doesn’t exist in preterite. Whether you use imperfect or soler in imperfect, it’s the same general idea… iba al cine “I was going to the movies / I used to go to the movies” and solía ir al cine “I used to go to the movies” are things preterite does not express.

Another common one is that when you’re talking about time in the past I’m pretty sure it’s always imperfect; era la una “it was 1 o’clock”, eran las dos “it was 2 o’clock” etc.

Imperfect can be used for interruptions [interruptions are usually preterite] where… iba al cine cuando empezó a llover “I was going to the movies when it started to rain”. Multiple imperfect tenses mean it’s an uninterrupted narrative, iba al cine, estaba lloviendo, eran las dos y decidí almorzar antes “I was going to the movies, it was raining, it was 2 o’clock, and I decided to eat lunch before”

You run into some iffy territory with expressions like the weather or tener expressions, where usually it would be tenía hambre “I was hungry” but then maybe eran las dos y tuve hambre “it was 2 o’clock and I was feeling hungry (at that time)”.

Same thing with weather, hacía frío “it was cold” and then hizo mucho frío ayer “it was really cold yesterday”

A lot of people struggle with imperfect and preterite but together they’re the past tenses.

4. Future

The future tense is pretty self-explanatory, things happening in the future or the faraway future. It does get translated as “shall” in some contexts, so the Ten Commandments for example take future tense no matarás “thou shalt not kill”.

5. Conditional

You use this for a future where it’s not exactly certain but you’re more certain than uncertain. It’s not used by all people all the time, and in some places conditional isn’t used at all. But you see it used mostly with imperfect subjunctive, or an implied one.

It would be something like… no lo haría (si lo supiera) “I wouldn’t have done it (if I had known)”

Conditional requires that something happen before it can happen, so it’s something like a sure hypothetical. Like an “if I were in that position, I would feel this way”

When not used with imperfect subjunctive, it gets used most often with poder and deber in the sense of podría “might (do something)” and debería “should (do something)”

6. The Perfect Tenses

Using haber you can make things “perfect”. If the “imperfect” tense is things that have not been completed, “perfect” is things that have been.

This is like… “I have done”, “I have seen”, “I have gotten”… and it requires some conjugation of haber along with a past participle.

It can exist in indicative or subjunctive, but not imperative. You might see he visto “I’ve seen” or espero que hayas visto “I hope you’ve seen”.

haber is the same thing when you say hay “there is/there are”, or había “there was/there were”

Side Note: haber does conjugate to the preterite tense… hube, hubiste, hubo, hubieron, hubimos but you’re not likely to see it. You might see it used was “there was/were” but rarely.

The difference is that había is more common, and hubo is drastic and only shows up in the event of an emergency so you see it more in news reports.

Like… había lluvia “there was rain” is normal… hubo lluvia “there was rain” makes it sound like a really strong downpour just messed you up. You would normally see it as hubo un accidente “there was an accident”, hubo un terremoto “there was an earthquake”, hubo un diluvio “there was a flood”… not really the everyday kind of thing.

Present subjunctive

Subjunctive happening in the present. These are things like polite requests, doubts, subjective emotions that are happening in the present. These aren’t so clearly defined as I’m putting them, but they help as far as examples.

Polite request: quiero que pongas la mesa “I want you to set the table”

Doubt: dudo que llueva “I doubt it will rain”, no creo que llueva “I don’t believe it will rain”, no pienso que llueva “I don’t think it will rain”, no estoy seguro/a (de) que llueva “I’m not sure if it’ll rain”

Subjective emotions: es importante que vengas “it’s important you come”, es probable que vengas “you’ll probably come”, me alegro (de) que te guste “I’m glad you like it”, me molesta que no me escuchen “it annoys me that they don’t listen”, no me importa lo que digan “I don’t care what they say”

You also get the “whatever”, “whenever” things I mentioned like haz lo que quieras “do whatever you want”

Imperfect subjunctive

You can pretty much divide this into subjunctive in the past and subjunctive in the future. The past is pretty much like present subjunctive just… in the past.

Note: There are 2 forms of imperfect subjunctive. That did mean something in the past, but today it’s really up to you which form you use. Latin America favors the endings of -ara/-iera, Spain prefers -ase/-iese

Again, in older stuff it does mean something different if you see llamara as opposed to llamase, but today not always.

Requests: quería que pusieras la mesa “I wanted you to set the table”, me exigieron que dijera algo “they demanded that I say something”

Doubt: no estaba seguro/a (de) que lloviera “I wasn’t sure it would rain”

Subjective emotions: era muy improbable (de) que estuviera aquí "it was really unlikely that he/she would be here”

You get into murkier water with hypothetical situations and contrary to fact statements which tend to show up with conditional. These are most like when English says “was” and “were” like “even if it was” or “if I were”.

Hypothetical situations:

no se despertaría aunque cayera una bomba “he/she wouldn’t wake up even if a bomb fell”

Contrary to fact statements:

si fuera rico/a, viajaría  “if I were rich, I would travel”

Future subjunctive

Honestly don’t worry about future subjunctive so much. It only really shows up now in older works or in contracts as si fuere menester “in the event of”. It’s not impossible to see it, but it’s something you see more in older things and is largely obsolete now… it looks like imperfect subjunctive, just with -e endings

Almost all of its functions were given to the imperfect subjunctive which is why it gets used for subjunctive in the past and future

Conjugation Cheat Sheet

Present subjunctive and imperative forms (a lot of time; there are exceptions and irregularities) take their forms from present tense yo forms. Irregularities on the yo form usually exist there too.

Imperfect subjunctive and future subjunctive forms take their conjugational forms from preterite tense 3rd person (for the most part)

Future (indicative) tense and conditional (for the most part with some very notable exceptions) will be the infinitive form just with an accented ending and have the fewest irregular forms of pretty much any tense… hablar goes to… hablaré and hablaría etc.

Let’s Talk About Tina Goldstein

So lately I have been hearing people talk about how boring Tina was as a character and it absolutely blows my mind that so many people think this when I immediately thought she was one of the most well-developed and interesting characters of the movie. Since so many people seem to be of the same mindset about her character, I feel that I need to remain people of a few key things and point a few other things out.

Allow me to present the facts:

1. Tina is part of the law enforcement in the 1920s, and seems to be quite good at her job

Although it is evident that the magical community in America at this time displays less gender discrimination than the non-magical community, the fact that she became Auror is a feat of its own. We know from the Harry Potter series that becoming an Auror required extensive training and top marks in school, so this means that Tina is not only at least a decent student, but a highly trained wizard. She also seems to have been doing her job for quite some time, which means that she has experience. Another thing to note is that, even after she was removed from her Auror position, she still felt comfortable enough to approach her higher-ups when she took Newt to MACUSA. I mean, she literally walked straight up to Graves and the president of the American Wizarding Community and started talking. Although she was turned away, the fact that she felt comfortable enough to approach them indicates that prior to her removal, she was respected and treated as an equal. If that isn’t the case, her boldness in speaking to Piquery shows that she is very brave and has a heart to do the right thing. By Tina’s attempts to keep doing her job even after she has been fired, we can see that she both loves her job and knows that she needs to do the right thing, even when there are restrictions in the way.

2. Tina fought Grindlewald

I would like to start off by saying: WHY AREN’T MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THIS.

I mean, come on. Tina went up against freaking Grindlewald one-on-one and held her own up until the point that he threw a freaking car at her. The fact that she was able to engage in a duel with him and nearly be successful in at least subduing him shows that Tina is indeed a powerful duelist and wizard as a whole. Grindlewald was considered the most powerful dark wizard besides Voldemort, and she actually faced him. Although she didn’t know Graves was actually Grindlewald, Tina had to have known that Graves was a powerful wizard from working with him, and the fact that she stood up to him is another show of her bravery.

3. Tina is occasionally emotionally vulnerable

So often in pop culture we define a strong female character as one who shows zero emotion and refuses to be scared, sad, or any emotion thereof. As stated in points 1 and 2, we already know that Tina is a badass, but the true depth of her character lies in that she is capable of kicking butt, but she also is not afraid to show when she is scared. In the scene where Tina and Newt are in the Death Chamber, Tina is visibly afraid and does not seem to make any attempt to hide it. Again, we later see that she is frightened when the lights go out in the street, and once more when she is facing Credence as the Obscurus. Besides fear, she displays a wide variety of other emotions throughout the movie, such as hope, calm, happiness, giddiness, embarrassment, annoyance, fondness, etc. Athough I am all for snarky females who don’t give a dang, Tina’s ability to show emotion is a breath of fresh air.

4. Tina calmed down Credence

And it would have worked too, if it weren’t for MACUSA’s interference. The fact that she was able to get Credence to trust her and listen to her shows a different depth of character that really doesn’t require explanation.

(side note: the fact that Tina is able to clam things down like Newt does with his animals really connects these two characters. Just sayin.)

5. Tina has a very close connection with her sister

The relationship between the Goldstein sisters is another thing we could microanalyze, but I think that their closeness is generally fascinating, even from a distance. For one, Tina does not really seem to envy her sister in any way, despite the fact that Queenie is a Legilimens and would have fit the “perfect beauty” of the time period. Tina does make a little quip once, but for the most part, Tina seems comfortable with who she is. Queenie also doesn’t seem to display any jealousy towards Tina, who is a powerful duelist and, as mentioned in point 1, seemingly well respected with higher-ups up until the point of her removal. Besides not showing jealousy, Tina looks out for her sister both physically and emotionally (as shown by her not wanting Queenie to get attached to Jacob when he will need to be obliterated). The sisters display a huge level of trust between the two of them throughout the whole movie, with their closeness being built on the fact that they raised each other after their parents’ passing. The fact that Tina is the older sister also shows that she probably grew up a bit too fast, and knows how to take care of herself.

Thus, I am continually confused by people who thought Tina was a boring or underdeveloped character when she is, in fact, a powerful duelist, a brave-hearted Auror, in touch with her emotions, a loving sister, a person who wants to do the right thing, and a generally caring person. Besides this, I thought she was funny at points, and Katherine Waterston did a wonderful job portraying this character. I think that J.K. Rowling left Tina plenty of room to grow and develop, and I look forward to seeing the role that she plays in future movies.

There are a lot more things I could have brought up, but this post was getting long. Feel free to add your own thoughts.

Homie out.

Do you have any Shisui headcanons?

(Happy!AU again bc I want to and you can’t stop me.)

- Voted Most Likely to Die Before Puberty 12 years running.

- Only Child™

-  Eternal Child™

- Also scary as fuck

- (It’s a delicate balance.)

- Found out that his grandfather shagged the Nidaime and didn’t know whether to be jealous or horrified.

- Decided it was something to aspire to instead.

- Kushina was his jounin instructor. It was the best/worst decision Sarutobi ever made and he Regrets.

- Once planned out an elaborate mission in order to spy on the men’s baths, more for the challenge than anything, and entirely forgot that he could just walk in through the front door.

- Tried the same on the women’s baths only to be found by Kushina.

- Will never try that again. Ever.

- Makes a game out of terrifying as many enemies as he can before he kills them. Itachi loves him, but he is Suffering.

- Had a brief period where he was crushing ridiculously hard on Orochimaru and spent a week in the depths of the library, finding the weirdest, most obscure jutsus just to impress him.

- Does not talk about it.

- On an entirely unrelated note, Sasuke has so much blackmail on him he could probably take over Fire Country.

- The human incarnation of the Uchiha tendency to be Extra Stupid around pretty, powerful people.

- Generally known as That One Uchiha in other villages. Everyone has a story about meeting him. Most involve bloodshed and terror. A few involve flailing but are generally laughed at.

- Sets Itachi up on dates whenever the opportunity even vaguely presents itself.

- #1 reason Itachi does not want to leave the house. He used to be twitchy about enemies everywhere, now he’s paranoid that he’ll somehow end up on a blind date the minute he sets foot outside.

- Has been in ANBU since he was 14 and will probably stay in it until he dies.

- (Largely because he read the burnout statistics and his entire existence can be summed up as “Shisui no.” “Shisui YES”)

- Hokage candidate.

- When the other villages find out there’s a mass wave of panic.

- Sarutobi Laughs. Finally a chance to inflict Shisui on other people.

- It works beautifully.

- (Well. Not for the Hokage’s guards. But Tenzo has only tried to murder him twice this week, so that’s probably progress.)
