“Tom, Tom, come over here! I want you to meet someone!” Ben calls out.

You take a deep breath, rocking on your heels. You’ve always been very insecure about, well, everything about you, thanks to your mother, and meeting new people is not one of your strong suits. Haha, suits.

A boy with brown curly hair flying everywhere is running towards Ben and me. I can’t deny, he is really cute. But he’s an Auradon boy, and I’m a girl from the Isle Of The Lost.

Once Upon a Time’s Lana Parrilla Previews Regina’s Dilemma (‘It Melts Her Heart’) and the Return of [Spoiler]

“Be careful what you wish for” applies to unexpected and improbable reunions, Once Upon a Time‘s Regina comes to learn this Sunday (ABC, 8/7c).

Having met the Wish Realm’s alive-and-well Robin of Locksley, and then convinced him to travel to Storybrooke with her, Regina’s hopes perhaps eclipse the reality of the surreal situation.

“I think she has high expectations. She really wants him to be her Robin Hood,” Lana Parrilla shared with TVLine during our visit to the set this week (where the musical episode was being filmed). “The big issue is he looks exactly like him, because he is a version of him, but he’s not real. And he isn’t Robin Hood. He’s Robin of Locksley, so Regina doesn’t even really know who this person is.”

What she does know, from spending a bit of time with him in the Wish Realm, is that this Robin is more of a scalawag. “He really is,” Parrilla notes with a laugh, before serving up an impression: “‘Give to the poor? Why would I do that?!'” But as he settles into Storybrooke, other, more obvious differences come to the fore. “He doesn’t know how to turn a light switch on!” laughs Parrilla. “But I think it’s charming, and I think she has high hopes.”

Said hopes may be fated to be dashed, however. “It’s quite confusing for Regina, because every time she looks at him, she actually puts him in Robin’s clothes, and that just like melts her heart,” Parrilla previews. “She feels like sh’es reliving that relationship all over again, but not — so it’s quite heartbreaking.”

Adding to Regina’s near-future angst, the Purely Evil Queen is set for a comeback, and that reunion sounds like a real humdinger.

Surveying the status of Regina’s doppelganger, Parrilla says, “Right now she’s a snake, but she’s not a snake for long. She comes back, and Episode 14 (airing March 26) is a big Evil Queen/Regina episode. There’s a big standoff between them, and there are a lot of words exchanged. A lot of words are exchanged! It was quite challenging, and also a lot of fun.”

For the dual role, Parrilla made sure that actresses, not just stand-ins, were hired to play opposite her, to best bring both characters to life even when all we see is their backs.

“I basically prep everything in advance — and I don’t mean memorization, I mean the physicality of it all. What I want Regina to do when I’m playing the Evil Queen, and vice versa,” she explains. “I’m very expressive with my arms, especially as the Evil Queen, so I wanted girls I could actually work opposite of and act with, and they were both really wonderful.”

As for how the duo’s next showdown plays out, Parrilla shared this: “It gets really heated, very quickly. And both of their lives are threatened.”

so uh… i have a job now i guess?

May Goals
  • 10,000-15,000 steps (I was really overshooting my goal again, I need to get more rest some days)
  • Stick to the meal plan closely until our friends fly in for Memorial Day
  • Workout 4-5 times a week
  • Log an entry in my migraine journal every day for more accurate tracking
  • Wear sunscreen every day (so far I’m sticking to this because with Tretinoin the consequences would be ever more severe)
  • Stretch every day
  • Do some more inexpensive meal preps, go back to basics for a while
  • Write two new guides/articles
  • Buy those damn shoes and throw away the old ones
  • Do more aromatherapy

How did April Go?

Below is what I wrote on April’s list

  • Stick to the meal plan leading up to Easter, then have a blast on Easter!
  • Go to the gym 4-5 times a week, working each muscle group at least once. (This went well, even with road travel)
  • 10,000-15,000 steps every day unless I can tell it’s time to become a throw pillow on my couch to recover from life. (This one I did too well, I should rest more)
  • No caffeine, as my migraine sensitivity has gone way up last month. (Uhm, we changed plans after the first week)
  • Go outside whenever the weather is permitting. (I went outside a crap ton)
  • Wear sunscreen every day. (Perfect!)
  • Make at least three new meal preps I’ve never done before. (I’d have to go back and check, but I did make new dishes this month and a used a few new ingredients)
  • Write two new guides. (Got it!)
  • Force my stubborn ass to buy a new pair of shoes. (Failed this, I really need shoes but it’s such a struggle since I don’t fit many in-store shoes)
  • Fix my desktop computer Oh, my God. Kill me. (Just needs that Windows installation)
  • Do 100 squats every day (I fell short quite a few days, but overall stuck to the challenge and more importantly have way better form now)
Drawing Process- Nico

Step 6- Base Color

This step- and most future steps are gonna be pretty geared towards CLIP Studio (the drawing software I use.)

First off it is important to make sure your line art is secluded in its own marked folder.

Never Fill YOUR ONLY COPY OF LINE ART for your base color.

if you just HAVE to have your base colors in your line art layer ( for whatever reason you would need to do that for)- MAKE A COPY OF YOUR LINE ART and set it to invisible.

For the coloring method I am going to show you (Later on in Step 7- Basic Shading)  you NEED to have the colors filled in their own layer.

you can do them all on one layer- BUT- it will make things harder on you later on.

After I prep my folder- label it ‘color’ and add some pages im ready to start filling.

I use the ‘Paint Fill Tool’ with the ‘refer to other layers’ sub tool setting.

This way I can fill my Line Art layer without actually touching it.

Also- if you have connected all of your lines on your line art (See earlier steps) You will not need to use ‘close gap’ feature of your ‘paint fill tool’- but if your color fill seeps outside of your desired lines you need to check the box next to the words ‘Close Gap’ in the Tool Property tab.

After you check that box- the five empty boxes beside it will fill.  These boxes determine how strict your ‘close gap’ setting will be (For larger gaps, you will need more boxes filled, for small gaps- fewer filled boxes.)

All of this is depicted in the image below….

After my tools are in order- I start filling in my line art-

It is important to layer your base colors from ‘back’ to ‘front’…

For example:

clothes and hair go over the skin-

So your layers in the folder should be

HAIR (Top)

CLOTHES

SKIN (bottom)

As you may have noticed- whenever using the ‘paint fill tool’ there are always little unfilled spaces.

It is important that these empty spaces are filled in- it will be troublesome down the road if they are left alone.

this is not an unavoidable step- it is boring and tedious- but it needs to be done for the sake of your project.

You must go through the entire work closely to find everything- because I can promise you there will be a lot of unfilled spaces in there.

After the clean-up is done we need to add a ‘White Layer’- this layer if for teeth, eye whites, small accessories, and such like that.

We dont use the ‘paint fill tool’ for the white layer because

A. ‘white layer’ stuff is usually pretty small.

B. ‘White layer stuff is not always sectioned off by the line art.

This layer is placed DIRECTLY BELOW THE EYE COLOR LAYER.

Below is the image without the white

image with filled in ‘white layer…

Now we have finished the Base Colors!

This is a good save/stopping point.

This needs no prepping for Step 7- basic shading.

The day I moved in with my big bro, I had no idea he was gonna be my bro, or that he was about to change my life. All I knew was he had a sweet pad off campus that I was gonna rent a room in. When I arrived with my stuff, I thought I was hot shit. Tailored jacket, chinos, all that fucking shit. Basically the prep uniform, because I was some fucking prep who thought I knew what’s up. I even brought a whole stack of books I had that I thought would impress people with my bullshit “lifestyle”. (Can you believe I used to read? Fuck, I can’t pay attention to the words on a page for any more than 10 seconds now.) Thank Brodin my big bro saved me and showed me the way. The next morning I woke up stripped down to my underwear, with all my crap gone. I was pretty mad at my roommate but there was nothing I could do about it without any clothes on. So when he offered his baller shorts and a pair of sneakers in my size, I had no other choice but to put them on. And when I realized how fucking sweet jock gear feels on you, I knew I would never wear that fucking preppy shit ever again. Cuz I’m a fucking bro, now. I dress like a bro. Lift like a bro. Play ball like a bro. Shoot the shit like a bro. Fuck like a bro. Join us, bro.

Doodleberry Jam

The site itself is still bare bones, but I’m hard at work pulling together the “grand opening” so to speak.  The visual above is from the first month’s bit about the first Element of Art: Line.  I’ve also got to pull together the basic framework/prep for an FAQ, Submission guidelines, a general About post, etc.

If you follow the blog, you can expect to see some funky things going on while I test things, as well as seeing the aforementioned prep work go up.

Hurricane Update 1

So I’m living in Houston, which as some of you know is in the path of Hurricane Harvey. So far, so good. My neighborhood flooded last April in a tropical storm so I feel much more prepared this time. Moved all valuables to high places, stocked up on non-perishables and water, the bathtubs are filled, I’ve got batteries, and my radio and everything charged, and my first aid kit prepped.

So, basically, I can live in my house for up to two weeks with no electricity, water, or AC. I’m prepared. The rain has started, and the wind won’t get too strong where I live. The biggest danger for me is flooding.
