I hope pregnant trans men are doing ok. I hope that them and their children are healthy and I really want them to know that having babies isn’t just a thing for women, and that their gender is still valid. Your kid will love you regardless of your gender identity, don’t worry about it. I hope they have a safe, healthy birth with no complications and that they recover from it well.

Ian Somerhalder Says He Threw Out Nikki Reed's Birth Control Pills And The Internet Is Not Happy
"Unbeknownst to poor Nikki, she didn’t realize that I was going to go in her purse and take out her birth control."
By Julie Gerstein

“By the way, it was the beginning of the pack, so I had to pop all those suckers out. It is a lot of work, especially after a little bit of sangria,” he continued. Somerhalder even videotaped himself throwing out the pills.

Somerhalder insisted he did it without Reed’s permission, but after having discussed with her and with friends that the couple wanted to have children. He also admitted: “Actually, now thinking about it, I guess I kind of decided [to start a family].”

Nikki Reed on Deciding to Start a Family: Husband Ian Somerhalder 'Threw Out All My Birth Control Pills'
Nikki Reed opens up about welcoming her and Ian Somerhalder’s daughter Bodhi Soleil, revealing, “I’m the real planner and I had no [birth] plan”

ian somerhalder threw out all of his wife’s birth control pills without telling her. that is… sickening. he took away her choice and decided this for the both of them. he took away her choice to put her body through a total physical and mental transformation. maybe she did want to have kids right then too, but he didn’t know because HE DIDN’T ASK HER IN THE FIRST PLACE. her initial reaction of hyperventilation was also caught on camera. and the fact that he announced this so proudly in the podcast just makes it worse.

i’m fucking disgusted. he is SCUM.

Right. Let’s get this out of the way. Kate is less than 12 weeks. 85% of miscarriages happen in the first 12 weeks and 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage. Any woman who announces a pregnancy before that mark knows that she is risking a great deal. She knows that if she has a miscarriage she will then have to tell people there won’t be a baby. Miscarriage of a wanted child is devastating. Most of you will have no idea how much it hurts, physically and emotionally, but I do. Now to have to announce that not just to family and friends but to the entire world would be a pain I would never wish on anyone. Think of the ache you felt when Zara miscarried and had to publicly announce it. Kate knows the publicity around her pregnancy will be more intense and far less sympathetic. No woman would announce a pregnancy before 12 weeks to get out of shaking hands for 90 minutes. No woman would announce a pregnancy before 12 weeks to overshadow her brother in law (which she would have done anyway with her engagement) who she has never said a bad word about and who has never said a bad word about her that was confirmed by a named source. And Kate would certainly not be so desperate to skip work or overshadow Harry if it meant she might miss out on her son’s first day of school. She is not a sociopath. She’s just a pregnant lady. The conspiracy theories are insane and ignorant of real people with real feelings, who risk a lot with this announcement.

Am I the only one that this ever happens to?

I had a first date tonight. Is it bad that all I could think about was this the entire time during the date? Honestly, this was just about all I could think about. I just wanted to know this about her…

Humans are Weird: Pregnancy

What if most alien species reproduce like avians or reptiles with large clutches of eggs which they don’t spend much time with, so the concept of raising a child inside of oneself is absolutely disgusting.

Y’xplc wandered the corridors of the ship in the middle of the night-not that it mattered in space. Most everyone was in their sleeping pods, but he heard shouts from the humans’ pod. He scuttled over as quickly as he could to investigate. There were clearly loud shouts and signs of aggression.

“I don’t want to have the baby here!” Human-Sarah cried, “In space! What if something goes wrong- what if the spaceship air hurts it. What if-”

“That won’t happen,” Jane interrupted her, “Nothing’s going to happen to the baby,” Jane soothed.

This outburst surprised Y’xplc, surely human-Sarah couldn’t be concerned. The air was kept at a stable oxygen level for most species. And there were incubators for all species, the eggs would be kept safe.

Human-Sarah had been absorbed into the crew for the most part. After a few words with Jane, the message about the shrieking had been conveyed and she had stayed quieter. Sarah even taught some of the crew-mates how to play chess. Many hours waiting in deep space were spent staring at a chess-board interspersed with some compulsory cursing as pieces were taken.

Human-Sarah had warmed up to the aliens and was friendly with everyone, though it wasn’t hard to notice how she shied away from direct contact with anyone, Jane.

However, in the recent weeks, Human-Sarah had been getting moodier. Y’xplc assumed it had something to do with the eggs. But when he went to the incubator there were not any eggs there. Perhaps the laying cycle was not going well.

Months passed and Y’xplc began to notice other things as well; human-Sarah was eating excessively and was gaining weight, a lot of weight. Progesterone levels were also increased to an unhealthy amount.

Eventually, Y’xplc contacted human-Jane about. She was under the belly of a generator fixing it with a sonic wrench.

“Human-Jane,” He asked, “Is human-Sarah ok?”

“What do you mean,” Jane looked up “Is she hurt?”

‘No, but she is gaining weight rapidly and it’s noticeable as well as increased progesterone level.”

“Oh,” Jane let out a rush of carbon-dioxide.
“That’s just because of the baby,” She explained

“But there are no eggs in the incubator,” Y’xplc questioned, “Are you keeping them elsewhere,”

There were a few species who liked to keep the eggs safe with their own body-heat as part of their customs.

“Eggs? What does this have to do with eggs,” Jane asked confused.
“The eggs-your offspring.”
“Y’xplc,” she garbled, “Humans are mammals we carry are babies in us.”
“What?” Y’xplc couldn’t hold back a sound of disgust.
“That’s why she’s gaining weight and eating so much, she has to feed the baby/”
“That’s like a parasite,” Y’xplc unconsciously scuttled backward.

Human Jane's eyes narrowed angrily, “Our baby is not a parasite.”

“No,” Y'xplc backtracked quickly, “Of course not.“

In the coming weeks, human Sarah’s belly swelled to unimaginable sizes and she spent most of her days lying in bed. Jane too was preoccupied with the baby and Sarah. She was reading books on human child-care almost constantly whens he wasn’t fetching Sarah food.

Most of the other aliens kept a wide berth from the baby inside of Sarah. The idea of keeping one’s young inside of themselves was absolutely disgusting.

Then one day, Y'xplc her screams from their pod.
"It’s starting,” Human-Sarah half screamed, half groaned. “the contractions."
Many hours later a squirming ball of flesh popped out of human Sarah’s reproductory region. It was tiny and delicate. It’s smooth round head. Human-Jane carefully swaddled it into a soft blanket and handed it to human-Sarah.

"Your baby. It’s a she,” Jane smiled.

“Our baby,” Human-Sarah sighed in relief. “It has your genetic code."

The baby soon became a constant on the ship. Its wails punctuated the night and were subsequently followed by either Jane or Sarah cooing and shushing before providing it with sustenance.

Y'xplc documented the babies growth and wondered why humans would give birth in such a dangerous and painful manner. Well, humans were weird.

I’m a trans woman on HRT. Can I get my partner pregnant if I stop HRT?

Someone asked us:

Hi, I am a trans woman (mtf), and have been on hrt for almost 3 years. I come from a family of very fertile males. My S.O. and I want to become pregnant. How likely is it that we might be able to make this happen? If I were to put my hormone regimen on hold for a while, would that be enough to make it happen? Or are there other things that we can do to make this work for us?

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) does typically lower sperm count. But taking a break from your hormone treatment may help your sperm count go up again. Typically, it’s recommended to stop hormones for about 3 months. However, there isn’t much research on this topic so we don’t really know how long of a break is enough to get to a sperm count where pregnancy is likely to happen. While there’s no guarantee that your sperm count will return, lots of trans women have been able to cause a pregnancy with their partner after taking a break from hormones. Some people freeze their sperm (cryopreservation) before starting hormones, but this is expensive, and doesn’t guarantee future fertility.

If you’re unsure of your sperm count and mobility after several months of not being on hormones, a semen analysis may answer some of these questions about your fertility. Some Planned Parenthood health centers offer this kind of testing, as well as urologists, reproductive endocrinologists, and other fertility specialists. You may want to consider Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) if you and your partner are having trouble getting pregnant after stopping hormones for several months, although this is expensive as well.

Real talk: fertility testing and treatment can be really expensive if your insurance doesn’t cover the cost, and finding fertility specialists knowledgeable and respectful of trans identities and health care may also be a challenge, depending on where you live. Your nearest Planned Parenthood health center may have info on good providers in your area. You can also ask the doctor or nurse you visit for HRT about your next steps and trans-friendly fertility specialists near where you live.

In the meantime, it’s a good idea for your partner to have a pre-pregnancy check up.

Best of luck!

Two expectant mothers, a turian and an asari, are both waiting for their appointments at the Citadel hospital and strike up a conversation.

The turian gapes, wide-eyed at the asari’s large bump, “You’re really gonna have your hands full. What is it, triplets? Quadruplets??”

The asari looks confused. “Erm, no it’s just the one-”

“Just one?! But….you’re so…!”

The asari laughs, “Well, I’m due any day now!”

“Well so am I! I’m not nearly-”

“Wait - you too? But…you..you don’t look…?”

The turian gestures dramatically to her own barely noticeable bump.

“Are you kidding?? I’m HUGE!”

Months later, they happen to meet again for their respective follow-up appointments, the asari now cradling her newborn in her arms.

The turian shakes her head. “Spirits, I still can’t believe it. Did that really pop out of you?”

The asari scoffs, “Well, where’s yours?”

The turian then plucks something from her cowl and holds it out in front of the asari. A tiny turian baby, no bigger than the palm of her hand, wiggles and chirps.

The asari gasps. “Goddess….it’s so teeny!!
