posted this so many times but whatever

The Evolution of Adrien’s Game

I binged a few eps of Miraculous Ladybug while I was sick today and ended up making a long-ass observation post about Gabriel as Hawkmoth (or maybe Mr. Kubdel, wtfk) instead of resting.  Because priorities.

Anyway, here’s something else I noticed that wedged itself into my brain and won’t leave.  Prepare for another long post.

In “Origins”:

  • Falls in love with a person he just met (proof he’s a Disney princess)
  • Which one?  Ladybug or Marinette?  Who knows.  He gives them both the same “oh shit, I think I’m in love” look.

In “Copycat (L'Imposteur):

  • Nino invites the girls to the movies and Marinette squeals.
  • Adrien’s reaction (half startled, half “that was cute wtf?”)

In “Timebreaker (Chronogirl)”:

  • He freaking winks at Marinette after complimenting her.
  • Oh yeah, you’re smooth -_-
  • Also, you’re a pirate.  ARGH MATEY!

See how this plays out below the cut:

THE REASON WHY THE GOOD TEEN TITANS IS NEVER COMING BACK

ive seen MANY times on my dash different posts either complaining about teen titans go ( and rightfully so tbh) or whining/begging for the original teen titans to somehow make a triumphant return

unfortunately no amount of petitions you sign, emails you send, or rants you post, will ever bring the original back bc of 1 reason:

THE CREATOR IS A FUCKING ASSHOLE

let me explain;

when i was in my starting year at SCAD i was going for animation (dropped that like a rock but thats beside the point haha). there was a special seminar at night where freshman could meet w professionals in whatever field they were planning to go to. i thought this sounded amazing bc i was so eager to learn so i went, and to my surprise i was the only student who went.

i talked to the animation and sequential art guys and it was amazing to have their complete attention!! i felt much less shy talking about how insecure i was about my art than i would have been in a group of many students.

the animation guy asked me if i knew of the show teen titans, and i said ofc and that i loved it and wished it hadnt been cancelled

and then he told me something i would never forget

“it got cancelled bc NO ONE wanted to work w the creator. it got so bad people were quitting left and right until the studio decided they had to let him go. it didnt matter how successful the show was, or how many ratings it got/fans it had. this guy was so unbearable to be around that even if his product was amazing no one wanted to be a part of it any more.

so dont feel bad about your art not being the best, if you are a kind, and genuine person then people will want to work with you. its not about how quality the end result is, its if you are a person people would enjoy being around.”

UPDATE: if u wanna talk about this personal vent that blew up send me a message, i’m not answering the anons lol. i know there are autistic people that disagree but this is directed specifically at allistic people that participate in ableism and yet do the whole meme thing and that it made me and yes, many others uncomfortable. particularly as many of the joke posts start with someone not understanding why the joke is funny, etc. if you’re not autistic however literally you can like not even interact with this post like i really do not care.

like i get the Joke or whatever but i’m here to be that annoying reminder that autism exists and all of you are complicit in ableism re: the babadook

the movie is… pretty…clearly about ableism? her son is autistic- that’s why he’s bullied, that’s why he has meltdowns and sensory issues and doesn’t pick up on social cues, that’s why he’s ‘annoying’, that’s why her sister just Hates him- and she’s your typical autism mom. she takes it all out on her son, she hates that she gave birth to a child that was fucked up and Wrong and lost her husband in the process, she doesn’t have enough ‘support’, nobody understands, etc. he’s annoying and loud and complicated and she hates him the way some of you in the audience did.

the babadook is her hatred of him, her inability to accept his autism, etc. that’s why she tries to kill him(the way so many autism moms do, the way autism speaks tries defend), that’s why she tries to physically abuse it out of him, that’s why she has to ‘feed the monster’ every so often (the way autism moms™ have their ‘mom days’ to complain about how much they can’t stand their kid, how sometimes they wish they’d never been born, how they consider drowning them in kiddie pools bc it’d be ‘kinder’, the way that famous anti-vaxxers report having to go stand in rooms and throw shit at walls to avoid hitting their kid)

it’s…really apparent to me as an autistic person and it is so many others, too? sam has to protect his mother from the babadook. he’s terrified of it (her)- the movie even makes clear that she was the one that wrote the book. she tries to kill both herself and sam (glass in the food). she becomes more and more unstable, aggressive, and violent, and sam’s response as an autistic child is to mirror what he sees. his meltdowns increase, he has less support, he spends all his time latching on to the remnants of the only person he has.

like it’s…idk, really uncomfortable for me to see all these allistic people first making fun of how annoying the (autistic) kid was, and misinterpreting the movie to a frankly astounding degree, and then the Joke is that straight people don’t get how he’s a ~gay icon~ (which… many of the people in the first few posts from which the meme comes were autistic…. )

idk. it’s really weird for me to see allistics carry on with this elaborate lgbt icon joke by laughing in the faces of people that don’t understand why, when half of us are autistic… being mocked for not understanding a movie…about ableism…by allistic people. the mind boggles.

i mean whatever its a joke gay babadook etc but y’all didn’t even get it the first time and you’re joyfully, self-assuredly ableist all the time so it’s really weird that this is just kind of drowning out all of the #actuallyautistic posts i was enjoying reading in the tag but i mean, allistics will be allistics, i guess

Mmk. So what if art becomes one of the Earth’s  best defences?

Let me explain. So I’m going off of the “They weren’t counting on bears” and it’s many variations and additions. So in this post, our earth flora and fauna defend us from invaders, right? Well what if aliens have a difficult time distinguishing between statues and paintings from real objects, people, animals, whatever. At least, the realistic stuff, that is.

What if the urge to create something that looks like something real, or to make mythical things seem real with marks on a page, or molded metal, or carved rock is something distinctly human. What if it’s something aliens have never encountered before?

To be fair, we are quite good at it. If you’ve ever seen images of sidewalk art that mess with distortion to create the illusion that it’s three dimensional, then you probably agree.

Maybe some kid runs behind a huge lion statue to try and avoid getting shot while running from some alien patrol, and the patrol suddenly stops in their tracks before retreating. The kid realises what happened and runs off to tell the others. Suddenly those gargoyles and winged lions protecting museums become more relevant than ever before. They become our guardians again. Artists begin to crank out statues and paint walls bursting with animals. Engineers join in the fun and work together with artists to create uncanny, moving replicas of moose, leopards, and what have you. Then they begin to make dragons, Griffins, and dinosaurs. The aliens can’t tell which are real and which are fake.

The A-mew-sing Sequel To Adrien’s Game

This time, there are only four episodes covered but a lot of pictures so I’m adding a “read more”…eventually.  Also, Ladybug is on Netflix!  Go watch.  Here we go with the next four eps!

The last time we left our boy Adrien, he was developing his flirting technique with the lovely Marinette.  Or not.  It’s fun to speculate though, right?  Right?!

…ANYway, let’s see how he tops the almost kiss.

 In “Darkblade” (Le Chevalier Noir):

  • Marinette decides to run against Chloe for class something-or-other
  • To the utter delight of 95% of the class
  • That’s right man, just play it cool…
  • CASUAL FINGER GUNS and AMBIGUOUS SUPPORT!!!

In “The Mime” (Le Mime):

  • Hey, I didn’t know y’all were gonna be here too lol!
  • Smooth move, dude.  Just play it off like you had NO IDEA.

Our cat son heats things up below the cut!

I am here for Lancelot and lemme tell you why

No, I’m not talking about true, genuine relationship-y type things.
I’m talking straight up abusive and obsessive, namely Lotor being obsessed with Lance.
I want Lotor to attack the paladins, see Lance, and throw the plan out the window because holy fuck he needs that boy now.

Please consider this:

Lance gets captured (or traded for a cease fire [the team opposed but Lance went anyways]) and taken onto a Galra ship where he gets a room with a nice bed and everything, but there’s no windows, no unlocked door. The air vents have bars in front like a jail cell. His room may be luxurious, but Lance has never fell more imprisoned.

Lotor drops by constantly, forcing Lance to do things in exchange for his life. The Galran prince will dress up our paladin in various outfits, ranging from showy to modest. He makes him dance (I headcanon blue paladins having a history of being exceptional dancers) and, as soon as he learned Lance could, sing.
If Lance refused a request, he’d get hurt. He put up with it for a while, but soon got too annoyed. He didn’t care anymore. So what if he got hurt? It’s not like his friends were coming (casually throws in some Langst for ya [dont worry, I promise Voltron is doing all they can]).
Eventually, Lotor learned that physical pain wasn’t working anymore, so he switch to psychological. He visited less and less. He let Lance go crazy from lack of social interaction. He’d show up again weeks later, and lo and behold the blue paladin was willing to do just about anything.
Lance thrived on attention.
Lotor used it against him.
The Prince repeated the process. As time went on, Lance became more and more dependent on Lotor’s attention. The more disinterested he seemed, the greater the lengths the paladin was willing to go to.
Mental abuse turned to sexual harassment turned to reluctant - almost fearful - consent. The Prince wanted everything Lance had to offer, and he was going to take it using whatever means necessary. Out of fear of being abandoned, the paladin went with whatever Lotor demanded.

By the time Voltron rescued him, Lance could barely function without the structure Lotor gave him. He forgot how to act around so many people, far to used to being in solitude, or in the abusive presence of the prince.
Lance was never quite the same.

Edit: I’m writing this. It’s in the editing stage rn but it’ll be out soon! Edit #2: it’s here! https://helloitstrash.tumblr.com/post/161228677879/truce (I’m on mobile rip)

What do you do with Too Many Ideas Syndrome?

At first you embrace it: “I’ll never stop writing ‘cause I’ll never run out of ideas! This is awesome!!!!” And then you realize that with so many ideas, you’re going to have to pick one to run with and then it’s like uh…yeah…

Too Many Ideas

This question has given me the opportunity to bring back the cute bunny post from 2015. In it I discuss how you bounce back and forth between ideas, so take a look. It might help!

In that post I mention that it’s really a matter of going with whatever idea is most interesting to you at any given time. This could change from day to day, so one day you might work with one idea and the next you work with another. This is really basic advice, so I’m going to try to take it one step further.

Start with Your Characters

If you’re overwhelmed by how many concept/plot ideas you’ve got, make a list of each concrete idea and set it aside. Then, work on character development. Start with one key character and then work outward.

You might be wondering, how do I create characters without any kind of plot, but writers do actually do this. We’ve got questions in our inbox right now from writers that have developed characters and are stumped on the plot. So it’s definitely possible.

This key character you’re starting with? Begin by establishing aspects of them that are separate from plot, things like age, gender ID, racial/ethnic background, sexual ID, and obviously their name. Go as far as you feel compelled to go, but start with these basic facts.

Then, think about their relationships/friendships. Do they have lifelong friends they knew as children? Do they have siblings they’re close with? A parent they bond well with? Think about those they’re friendly with, and then do the same thing you did when you started with your key character - their age, gender ID, ect. ect.

Next, think about potential future relationships. These don’t have to be romantic relationships. If your key character is an artsy type, maybe you envision them clashing with someone who operates with logic and reason, and then seeing how they become friends or enemies over it. This leads you to create yet another character.

What you’re doing here is developing character dynamics. You’re thinking about who these characters are first, before you even begin to consider what will happen to them. Having a cast of characters in place before you plot anything out can immediately draw you in. As I’ve said before, this is one reason we write fanfiction. We’re attached to the established characters and we want to imagine them in new situations.

The Character Quick-Change

Grab the list you made earlier of all your plot ideas and concepts. Start casting them in roles in the ideas you’ve already come up and see how they fit. One of your ideas might be set in a fictional, fantasy world with fairies, werewolves, dragons, while another idea might be an urban fantasy where they are no magical creatures but there is magic. And maybe another idea has no magic at all. So as you plug your characters into each vastly different idea, the two start to mold each other. Your characters drive the plot, and the plot you chose will help you add deeper levels to your existing characters.

If something doesn’t feel right, move onto the next idea. Imagine your characters are standing on a stage, and you’re simply switching out the scenery and the costumes. You’re giving them opportunities to play different roles, but you’re allowing them to bring their own personalities and backgrounds to each role they take on.

Eventually you should find something that just fits. And when that happens, you keep going with it. You might run into problems as you’re writing, and you might be tempted to move onto another idea, and that’s okay! Go with your instincts and see what happens. Discipline with an idea is hard to maintain, so don’t feel guilty about it. It’s something all writers struggle with.

When it comes to frustration during the writing process, the trouble is differentiating between your idea just being dead and the typical writing problems that you’ll see with any idea. But I think that’s a whole other topic that maybe I’ll get into at a later date ;)

Writing = experimentation. Try things out and see what’s working and what isn’t. You’ll know an idea is worth exploring when it happens, because your excitement and enthusiasm will soar.

And as an afterthought, here’s another post that might be useful to you: Focusing on One Project.

Sugar Baby In Their 20s : Things To Remember

Unfortunately unlike a lot of you super young and smart sugar babies out there, I didn’t start sugaring until last year at the age of 23. I don’t know what the age limit is or if there is one but I do often get anxiety about it.
This week was spring break and I had a sugar date EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I was completely having fun and relaxing. I still have 3 more to go. One tonight, two Sunday and one Monday night. Unfortunately, in the sugaring world, you have to come back to reality.

1) If you’re a sugar baby student, don’t forget to be a student.

As much fun as I’ve had over the last week of spring break, I did NOT want to focus on homework, I wanted to fantasies my next date with Feline Felix (he’s on Monday :)) However, if you tell your daddies you’ll still be in school for another two years, don’t make it four. Make sure you get your assignments in, get a good grade on your tests and if you have to, TELL YOUR SUGAR DADDY TO WAIT UNTIL YOUR TESTS ARE DONE.
I have done this many more times than not. Your sugar daddy SHOULD respect and applaud you for having your head straight in your studies.

2) Save.

Anyone that knows my blog well, I do give tips and tricks about how to fake your expensive wardrobe for cheap. “Be $mart In Your Wardrobe” posts if you were wondering. Always save though. Your sugar daddy can drop you like a hat at any time for whatever reason. Have money saved for a rainy day for rent, tuition, whatever.  If you can, have a day job so you don’t have a blank in your resume for 2 years for sugaring. You’ll thank me later.

3) Learn.

Your daddies have a world wind of experience under their belts. They became successful for a reason, why not make yourself successful too? If you’re going out with a doctor, or an attorney and your degree is going in that direction, make sure to use him as a reference to get a good job after school. Mr. Limelight has tons of connections that I could use from knowing him. Don’t ever end on bad terms and hang on to his number.

4) You’re not in your 20s forever.

Keep this in mind always. You’re not going to able to sugar for the rest of your life. If you do, kudos to you. Make sure you have that degree, that house, that dream and never let go of the site of that.

ON THE FLIP SIDE :)

HAVE FUN! You’re not in your 20s forever and you may not ever get to experience these things ever again. Take it while you can!

Hope this helps.

“Let’s go, baby”

I usually don’t do this kind of thing, but I’m itching inside while reading some stuff, and I just really want to put this out there…

Jungkook and Jimin have a close and special relationship. End point.

See, the thing about the recent event is that, no matter the circumstances, it doesn’t matter if he was quoting a k-drama (as I’ve seen some people attempting to point out, which… Sorry, it’s nice to think about stuff from different perspectives and in an unbiased way, but I just think it was a stupid thing to try and compare to, lmao. Especially if none of them have ever mentioned watching it, so…), what matters is that Jungkook is still younger than Jimin, and therefore, this is uncommon behaviour.

Oh but he could have been joking around”, see, if he’s joking around, he’s still playing with hierarchy. He owes his hyungs respect, and if he’s gone and called Jimin “baby” even if as a joke, it’s because Jimin let him, or if he was opposed to it, Jimin would’ve scolded him immediately, and he didn’t.

IN FACT! Jimin didn’t even flinch. He didn’t react. Jimin reacted to it as naturally as the speed of which the pet name came out of Jungkook’s mouth. It was normal for both of them. The act itself is bold. What’s so difficult to understand?

Oh, but he could’ve been talking to Taehyung!”

Sorry but no, Jungkook wasn’t talking to Taehyung. Taehyung was right beside him, and when he spoke, he spoke louder and looked behind him - precisely at where Jimin was standing - to speak. If he was speaking to Taehyung, he wouldn’t need to look behind him, to where Jimin was. He would plainly and simply look beside him, where Taehyung was, which was much simpler and easier to do. Also, it was Jimin who was ‘holding them back’ because he was the one taking pictures and taking his time when both Jungkook and Taehyung were already ready to go. So, yes, he talked to Jimin.

And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but no, he was not talking to or about the ocean. I mean??? Do I even need to go there? Yeah, I thought so.

Thing is: Why is it so hard for some people to just accept the fact that Jungkook acts in a certain way with Jimin that:

- Is uncommon in between boys in Korea;

- Is uncommon when HE is the youngest in the pair. Jungkook is the maknae, he is Jimin’s dongsaeng. Jungkook is in (technically) a lower position in relation to Jimin.

Jimin doting on Jungkook, or any of the hyungs really, is common behaviour because Jungkook is the baby, he is the youngest. They will dote on him.

But the fact that some of the shit Junkook says (like speaking informally, calling Jimin princess, manggaetteok, baby) is not normal for the YOUNGEST to say/call/tell to his ELDER, and that is what is so telling.

It’s not the pet names themselves, it’s the fact that they’ve acquired such intimacy and comfort with each other that Jimin lets him do it and get away with it. And not only that, but Jimin is also comfortable with it. If he wasn’t so, he would’ve stopped Jungkook a long time ago.

So really, the main point here is: the things that Jungkook does to Jimin, he doesn’t do to any of his other hyungs, and the things he does to Jimin, they’re uncommon. It’s a breach in hierarchy, and this is what’s shocking and this, per se, is what speaks so loud about their dynamics and relationship. They’re close. Maybe the closest in the band, and no one can deny it.

I’m not making any assumptions in here, see? I’m just plainly stating facts. For Jungkook to be able to do such thing is because Jimin lets him. And for Jimin to let him, it’s because they’re close. End point.

I have no idea if they are dating or not, I don’t even feel comfortable saying it, this is not even what this post is about.

What I’m trying to say here and I’m rambling is just that I don’t get people being so salty and annoying over facts and why people keep trying to deny facts. They are close. Jikook are close, and that’s it. Just get over it.

Even if as a joke, even if as a quote, it’s still the dongsaeng calling his hyung baby. It’s the act. It’s the dynamics. @satellite-jeon has spoken about this so many times now, and she explained it well enough in her last post

So, please. I’m not trying to prove shit with this, I’m just trying to say that Jimin and Jungkook have a special relationship. Be it platonic, be it romantic, be it professional, be it whatever. They have something special.

Just get over it.

I’m sure my shitty banner is really giving you faith in my editing skills

hi guys

so yesterday I hit 4k and uh, first things first, how? when I started this blog three-ish months ago I never could have imagined this. I’m honestly shocked that anyone enjoys my content and puts up with my whining. you guys are all amazing and I love you guys so much. this fandom has been so welcoming to me and I’m infinitely grateful for everyone who follows me, interacts with my posts, or has been a friend to me (wow there, sap, calm down) 💛

anyway, I figured that to celebrate, since I didn’t do anything for 3k (sdfghjkl sorry) I could do some url edits.

how to get one

  • you mbf me
  • reblog this post
  • have a phan-related url (sorry ily all)
  • send me an ask with your favourite colours

extra shit rubbish:

I’ll try to do them all/as many as possible but there’s a (relatively strong) chance that I only do those I’m inspired by, sorry. these make take a (long) while to finish because I have this, plus 100 days of London flat memories, plus real life stuff like school and yeah. blacklist “callie does url edits” if you don’t wanna see them. also I’m gonna be using these mostly as practice to improve my editing so don’t expect to be amazed.

and yeah. i love you guys 💛

happy birthday kiiboy!! i love u a lot even though most of the time i make fun of ur lack of parts!!!

Alpaca Obsession

While we don’t play D&D very much anymore; our very first campaign- where only 2/6 people had played before - was a bit rocky for the first few games, but as we played more and more our characters developed and we learned wtf we were doing and we got pretty far through an actual story.

So we had stopped at a snowy village; where my half-elf rouge had quite a bit of money saved up; as she would steal from the monk every chance she got and she wanted to spend it on something stupid;

Rouge (me) ooc: I roll to steal all of (monk’s) gold.
DM: okay…(monk) roll perception to catch her
*monk rolled low to my high roll*
DM: you steal all of his gold
Me ooc: okay; I go over to a merchant and I want to buy a pet
DM: uhm…they have a couple donkeys that carry items
Rouge: Do you have any alpacas
DM: no just donkeys
Rouge: okay how much for a donkey
DM: 350 gold pieces

while that was steep for the other players - I actually managed to have that much from many swiped pockets over the course of our whole game up to that point

Me ooc: okay, I buy a donkey and pray to my goddess to turn it into an alpaca.  How high is that?
DM: High

I proceeded to roll a nat 20, and had +3 in whatever check my DM said I had to do (it was a long time ago; so little details are fuzzy)

My previously useless donkey turned into an alpaca with stats and attacks because it had been blessed by my goddess.  DM was not happy.

Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin

So I’ve touched on this briefly in the past, though not really in a full post.

Ok, Ravenclaws are most likely to be confused with Slytherins, but slytherins tend to be confused with either ravenclaws or gryffindors, depending on their individual choices in values and how to accomplish their goals.  Keeping this in mind, I’m going to address the group of slytherins who appear more ravenclaw, because for this post, we don’t care about the gryffindor ones.  Take Draco Malfoy vs. Horace Slughorn.  One appears more gryffindor and one appears more ravenclaw.  You’d never mistype Draco as a ravenclaw, it just wouldn’t happen.

1. Bluntness: Both of these houses are known for being rather blunt, though it tends to be in different ways.  For the most part, being insulted by a ravenclaw is unintentional, because they’re just saying what’s true, but slytherins have a better feel for people and what IS insulting, so though you’re less likely to be insulted by a slytherin, when you’re insulted, it’s probably not accidental.  For a ravenclaw, bluntness is natural because reality itself is blunt and they are a bit more textbook style (well, your nose is rather large for your face, which causes, as an offset, to have your eyes look smaller).  Slytherin, though this only occurs when they dislike you, finds a way to shred you with their words, because they no longer care what you think of them (You’re right, I don’t think he likes you.  It’s probably because of your nose; it’s giant.).

2. Action Orientation: One of the biggest ways to tell these two houses apart is where their focus really lies.  Ravenclaw is perfectly happy with a life of speculation, of discussions, of theory, a world where there are no right answers.  This aggravates Slytherin, since their main trait is ambition, which is all about doing, and affecting change, and things that are tangible.  Slytherin doesn’t like to go off half-cocked without a plan of some sort, which is how they’re different from gryffindor, who just jumps in (more raw emotions), but once they have some form of something to go on, they act, because the action is the goal for them and the data collection is just in pursuit of the goal.  For ravenclaw, the goal is the data collection, so after they learn, and think, and understand in theory, they learn, and think, and discuss, and understand some more because that is what gives them fulfillment while slytherin is in a corner ripping its hair out.

3. Indifference vs manipulation: when a ravenclaw is discussing an idea with you, it’s all about theory and openmindedness.  Let’s argue this, ok, now let’s argue this, yay, this is fun! When a slytherin wants to discuss something with you, you should be getting slightly nervous, because what they appear like a ravenclaw, indifferent about all of the options, just going for fun, but they really have a personal agenda that they’re trying to push, and they just are fantastic with twisting ideas around.  Ravenclaw twists by going ‘ooh, but what if we did this’, and it’s strictly playful, but slytherin goes ‘oh, so if they is this, then this must be this, and therefore this, so why didn’t you draw this conclusion?’.  Slytherin is leading you while ravenclaw just wants things to run their course.

4. passive vs run you over: though it is commonly thought hufflepuff, it is ravenclaw that is the least confrontational house.  Their nature is live and let live, because they want to share experiences and knowledge in a non-critical way where everything is equally valid.  Because of this, it’s rare you’ll have a ravenclaw tell you you are wrong.  Maybe you’re doing something wrong, but you are not wrong, because who are they to decide what opinion is right when theirs is also just an opinion.  Ravenclaw rudeness tends to be a little more accidental than the other houses, because they really don’t moralize.  Slytherin, well, here’s where it gets a bit of the reputation for being an ass.  They’re aggressive by nature, but not the gryffindor openness with feelings and aggression, more passive aggressive.  Gryffindor might punch you or run you over, but slytherin would rather let things sit for a while, but in the meantime, they’ve shut down your entire life and gotten you bulldozed by like 12 people.  Still, slytherins take a lot of shit before they really get angry, because to have a legit emotion is…. time consuming and inconvenient.  Both rarely get angry or whatever you want to call it at someone, but ravenclaw sorta distances themselves, and slytherin almost gets personally offended.

5. image contentiousness:  *sigh* why does this post make slytherins sound like utter drama queens?  Oh yes, they are.  Slytherins often have this feeling that they’re a product they need to sell, and people’s perceptions play into that, so many of the choices they make are somehow about how they’ll be seen and interpreted.  That skirt?  Well it’s symbolic.  Like no joke.  I literally took years picking a ring, a piece of jewelry with my initials carved into it because, years from now, if I’m refined into a symbol, it’ll be that (like the phantom of the opera and the rose / mask (another super dramatic slytherin)).  Ravenclaw, not so much.  It’s just not where their focus lies.  This skirt?  I thought it looked nice or/it’s comfy.

6. openness with thoughts: another really big indicator of these two is how open they are with honest sharing.  Ravenclaw tends to be more free about their thoughts and feelings, accepting others and if you’ve asked, why shouldn’t they be honest?  Slytherin, playing into perceptions, tends to be very internally opinionated, rarely externally sharing, because they’re forming an image they don’t want tarnished.  Luna vs Draco:  I am going to tell you honestly what I think and I don’t care if you agree because this is what I believe. OR I want to be a professional quidditch player but my father and everyone else expects me to work in the ministry because I am a Malfoy, so I will never express that thought

natalie-j-cross  asked:

Just wondering, how do you manage to stay motivated? I always struggle to do so. Thanks!

Honestly speaking, I really struggled with staying motivated in my final two years at uni. Basically, this gif was an accurate representation of how I felt up until graduation:

[assuming that I got out of bed at all. tbh. you can track some of it here.]

Here’s a few things that helped me stay somewhat motivated aka:

“mate, teach me how to give a shit about my studies”

1. Start small.

Sometimes, its just a matter of momentum. Start with a small task for the day. Something that can be completed in 10-20 minutes. Knock off the easiest things on your list of things to do. That way, even if your arvo falls into an endless pit of procrastination, you’

2. Target your study method.

I think one of the strongest demotivators was studying for long hours and then failing to get the results I wanted. On my lowest days my thought process would be something along the lines of, “what’s the point of studying this - heck, I’ll just do as poorly as last time.”

The only way to get over that was to target my study for the examination at hand. I saved a lot of time whilst achieving decent grades. Two birds, one stone.

3. Shake things up

Study the same shit but in a different way. Whether that be writing notecards, finding videos online, group study, drawing up some mindmaps, screaming it at the mirror.

4. Look for inspirational shit

Whether it be something related to your field of study or not. It might be as simple as going on a youtube spiral on an aspect of your field of study, or finding an aspirational figure.

If you’re the type that responds to motivational quotes - great! Print out great A3 sizes of motivational quotes and plaster them all over your study space.

Personally, I respond better to the the dry humour sarcastic motivation. In that respect, #reallawblr and @lawschoolruinedme were very much my sources of inspiration.

TL;DR find what inspires you.

5. Fuck it all

Look, sometimes you need a break from studying in order to get back into studying. Kinda like those long term old-couple relationships you see in tv soap operas where the biggest plot point of the season is “oh, I’m so bored of my long term partner, how will I ever keep this relationship alive!” (bad analogy, but i feel like this is a good time to admit that I’m running on 2 hours sleep here).

Remind yourself of who you are outside of your school/university life. You are much much more than the sum of your academic achievements.

….to be frank, I found that I needed to take a small break from studying in order to be motivated ‘to’ study. That includes pursuing interests outside my academic life - catching up with friends, tv shows, heck even doing physical exercise.

Heck, you might even find a new hobby! I got into hockey due to a procrastination spiral. 4 months on and I’m a frickin’ hockey nerd. And i live in Australia, where there’s hardly any ice/snow to speak of.

And that may mean stop trying so hard to find motivation. Because that may be exhausting. While I know many people turn to studyblr as a source of motivation, I’ll admit there was a long period where I just had to avoid studyblr. Because it was draining to come home to posts about pens/study/stationery/TIPSFORA4.0GPA or whatever. After a 10 hour stint of study, the last thing I wanted to do was to spend my free time talking about studying lmfao.

My ramblings aside, here’s a list of ‘targeted’ tips that may help with those motivation levels!!

All the best hun!

How to “kill” the “middle stage”

I asked @y3lir-europe if i can write a 2nd part to this post  and he accepted, so thank you again. He focused on the fact that you need to learn more vocabulary and also the importance of recognizing what weaknesses you have, so i won’t cover that in my post. However, i’ll add some strategies and i’ll also add some suggestions on how to choose the right kind of vocabulary.

For the 2nd point of his post:

Start figuring out what you know and don’t know and want to know. Similar to a pros and cons list you are acknowledging what you can already do in your language, what you don’t know, and what you want to know. That way you can smoothly go into learning.

A pros and cons list is an amazing idea and after you are done, you just have to think of ways how to solve that.

Since many people don’t feel motivated to do so because they will get out of their comfort zone and they want more like a book or a person to tell them what to do and how, i’ll make a motivational part at the end of this post.

Number3: Vocabulary!!!! Seriously, even though you are past the beginning level the real reason you are stuck is because you need more to work with. Try learning more advanced vocabulary. Medical terms, organs/bones, space, etc.

He is right here. However, you already know around 2.000 words so you will be wondering how you decide what to learn. Easy, you are going to use your preferences. Let’s say you’re a Harry Potter fan, can you talk about wizards, unicorns, dragons, magic? Then next week you focus only on this kind of vocabulary. Let’s think of other situations, you like makeup/cars/books, can you talk about them? And not in general “i like red cars”, i mean, talking about parts of the cars/books, what you’re doing with that makeup like blending and so on. Think what you usually like talking about and then make a list with what kind of vocabulary you need, in this way, you learn words that interest you not only random advanced vocabulary.

Number 4: Be creative. Try to learn how to play with the words you know. Learn how to speak in sarcasm, or with idioms. Learn some metaphors and similes. Try to find fun ways to use your language.

He’s right again, this is the time when you can start learning idioms! If you write “idioms in language” you will probably get a long list with suggestions. Make a course on memrise or quizlet, learn what interests you out of all these idioms.

Here i’m done with quoting y3lir and start writing my ideas.

Goals

Do you have a goal in your target language? Goals as “i want to be fluent” won’t work. Why? They are vague, so little details, you need something specific like “i want to be C1 by the end of the year”. After you have a goal, set some tiny ones like “i want to read 1 comic in Spanish by the end of the week”, “i want to understand what this songs says in 2 days” or maybe “i want to have a conversation for 10 minutes with an advanced learner/native”. Don’t forget to celebrate these mini goals, they will give you some motivation.

Variety

You got used to a routine by now. You probably have your favourite method of studying like duolingo, memrise, classes etc. You’re in a comfort zone and that won’t help you at all. I love and envy those people who have Nth days on duolingo, they can do something which i don’t, maintain a routine. However, i respect those people who give no damn about having a certain number of days on duolingo and memrise. They can’t use only those methods, they prefer variety and that’s helpful because they don’t get in a comfy zone. Now, if you really like the green owl, don’t give up at it. Keep duolingo and memrise in your routine but add something that will spice up your schedule. Add some activities that you haven’t tried before or you haven’t focused on them much. Talk to someone in your target language for 5 minutes, read a comic/book/story, play word games, watch a movie, write a short story, look around and name what you see and so. Have at least 1 activity that will be changed daily and that focuses on your weak spots.

Competition

Have you ever been around someone who is better than you at something? In such moments i want to improve, to be just as good if not better. I know that they worked a lot to be so good at that something and i want to do the same. Try to study with someone who is better than you at a language, or just talk to someone who is. Not only that they might motivate you a lot, but they can also correct your mistakes and maybe suggest you some solutions, they have been there already.

Challenge yourself

You might understimate yourself. Set a goal or a challenge that you think it’s difficult to achieve and try to finish what you are going to start. You might think that reading an entire book is difficult, then choose a story/comic/fanfic/article and read that. Next time, you choose another story/comic/fanfic/article and so on until you gain enough confidence and you can start reading that scary book.

Motivation

At the beginning of this post, i said something about a game. I can’t focus on tasks for a long time because i get easily bored and many people just hate to have a routine so i thought that a rewarding system will work. “You want something? You should study for it.” that’s what i had in mind when i came up with this game.

Basically, whatever you want (book, chocolate, a trip to Sweden, shoes etc.) has a number of points. I thought that 50pts should be the smallest amount of points for something. And there’s no “the highest amount of pts” thing.

Let’s say you want a book, that’s 250pts. (you set the points, but try not to be too harsh with yourself, you want to get motivated, not to study until you die). In order to get that book you decide to learn 10 new words (10*10=100 pts), to read 2 pages from a book and to write down the unknown words (25*2= 50pts), to watch a movie in your target language (50pts) and to learn 5 idioms (5*25=125) and you got 325 pts, you get your book and next time when you want something you already have 75pts.
