possibly mountains

Come talk to me about the finale

Like really though. Tell me what happened with my ship and with Derek.

Did Stiles really save Derek with mountain ash??

Was the Jennifer scene really upsetting :/

Were there any other Sterek moments besides the Jeep drive up, the FBI rescue teasing, and the possible-saving-with-mountain-ash moment?

I should be going to bed tbh but I need to know.

What's the difference between the Tuatha de Danann and the Sidhe?

Sídhe (pronounced ‘she’) literallly means ‘mounds’ in Irish, but is used as an abbreviated form of the Irish literary term daoine sídhe which refers to the people of the mounds. Another, less literary, term is the aos  or aos sídhe meaning the same. These are general terms for what we think of as essentially faeries or elves in Irish and Scottish folklore and mythology. I believe the use of sídhe to refer to the daoine or aos sídhe was first used by W.B. Yeats.
The aos sídhe are often thought of as being the ancient pagan ancestors and souls of the dead, or variously as being the old pagan gods themselves who diminished in size and power as time left them abandoned. Others just see them as a completely separate species.
Then there are various types that are named, such as the bean sídhe or woman of the sídhe which refers to the female spirit who screams and wails to foretell a death (particularly in the family), or the bean nighe or washerwoman who cleans the bloody clothes and armor of the dead before they die. The leanan sídhe or fairy lover is the beautiful sídhe who seduces and sometimes marries men, while the siabhra may have been a lesser spirit prone to evil and mischief. There are also cat th (fairy cat) and cu th (fairy dog) and the sluagh sídhe or the Fairy Host, which is equatable with the Wild Hunt or Furious Hoarde.

The Tuatha dé Danann is literally translated as the Tribe of (goddess) Danu. They are interpreted as the ancient supernatural and magically-gifted race that inhabited Ireland after defeating the Fir Bolg who lived there before. They inhabited Ireland until they were defeated by the invading Milesians.

Some people argue that these were the ancient Celtic deities, but this is a modern concept that we like to agree with, rather than one that is actually substantiated by history. We don’t have any proof that Prehistoric Ireland worshiped any humanoid deities. In fact, we have no evidence of humanoid archaeological finds from Irish pre-history that weren’t imported to the Island. All ancient Irish art, even religious, seems to have been composed solely of geometrical and abstract designs. Certainly the Gaulish Celts and almost as certainly the British Celts worshiped anthropomorphic deities, which possessed relatively the same names as the Irish Tuatha dé Danann, but we know that the Celtic religion differed greatly from place to place, even though the Druids themselves had a central school and power it does not mean that there were not sects of Celtic religion.
It seems almost more likely that the Irish Celts worshiped natural features such as rivers, glens, hills and mountains, possibly some life force or sense of spirit, but understood the Tuatha dé Danann as they were recorded: solely a tribe of magical ancestors, gifted in particular areas such as healing, battle, or magic. The only sources that recorded them as gods in any way were centuries after, and heavily influenced by the Roman-pagan and then Christian religious mindsets The Tuatha dé Danann were kings, queens, and heroes. Kings, queens, and heroes are not often worshiped religiously.

From the poem Lebor Gabála Érenn:

It is God who suffered them, though He restrained them

they landed with horror, with lofty deed,
in their cloud of mighty combat of spectres,
upon a mountain of Conmaicne of Connacht.

Without distinction to descerning Ireland,
Without ships, a ruthless course
the truth was not known beneath the sky of stars,
whether they were of heaven or of earth.

How are they different from the daoine or aos sídhe?
As the majority of my responses go, it depends who you ask! Some people believe(d) that the aos sídhe were later forms of the Tuatha dé Danann, others believe(d) that they are what is left of that tribe who retreated into the Otherworld or underground into the mounds after their defeat.
While the Tuatha dé Danann are referred to more mythologically and specifically, the sídhe or aos sídhe are referred to more folkloricistically and generally. Until the mid-20th century, and even still in some parts of Britain and Ireland today, it is not totally uncommon to leave offerings or gifts for the sídhe (good people, fairy folk, the folk), while worship of the Tuatha dé Danann is stranger and more pagan.

Zagrosian Lizard

Timon princeps (called the Siirt lizard or Zagrosian lizard) is a species of Timon which belongs to the family of Lacertidae, the wall lizards. This species occurs in northeastern Syria, southeastern Turkey, southwestern Iran (the central Zagros Mountains), and possibly northern Iraq. The species may not be present in northeastern Iraq, resulting in two disjunct populations.

This species is found in rocky areas in open oak woodland and shrubland, and sometimes in open grassland. The female lays between five and ten eggs. It is not present in modified habitats or close to human habitations. This species is listed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, presumed large population, and because it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a more threatened category.

Musical Screening Q&A

HUGE thanks to @jjosh-lyman / johnsfkennedys (twitter) for sending me her audio recording from the post-screening q&a. ** Please note: the first few minutes are missing and I transcribed this to the best of my abilities **

1. What’s it like working with Ginny?

Josh: It’s been… It’s been.. What has it been?

Ginny: Magical? (Audience laughs)

Josh: (laughs) It’s been magical.  No, it has, it’s been–

Ginny: The best thing that’s ever happened to you! (Audience laughs)

Josh: It’s been, it has been a magical situation. You’re working with another actor who knows you so well. You can be very vulnerable, you can be very open, you can be very brave, you can do all those kinds of things. So yeah, it’s a real gift.

Moderator: I’m feeling the feels, y’all, are you?

2. What is your favorite Disney character or movie?

Adam: This will sound phony, but it is Snow White. (Audience goes aw)

Ginny: Right answer again!

Adam: It’s true!

Josh: I’m really glad we came to you.

Adam: It was the first movie that I remember seeing as a child and it clearly made an impression.

Ginny: I really like Zootopia because of um– (Audience laughs - can’t hear the rest of her answer) An equally savvy answer would be that we’re very partial to Winnie the Pooh. Pooh was my very first boyfriend and Josh, here, read the entire first Winnie the Pooh book to my belly when I was pregnant with my eldest and that was the first movie that Oliver saw. Then we accidentally bought Sterling Holloway’s house and he was Winnie the Pooh (note: he was the voice actor), so that’s kind of a crazy story. So yeah, Pooh’s got a whole thing. There’s a whole three-line of Pooh in our lives.

Josh: Or we stalk him. (Audience laughs)

Moderator: How about you, David?

David: I am fond of Maleficent and the whole Sleeping Beauty thing.

Moderator: Eddy?

Eddy: I’m gonna go with Alice in Wonderland and just because I like it. (Audience laughs)

3. Back to the musical, even though the songs are new and original, do you take inspiration from the Disney characters the actors portray?

Adam: It’s more like we’ve taken inspiration from the way our actors have realized these characters on the show. You know, we use the disney movies and animated films as a jumping off point, but every one of them has made it their own. So when we started this process, they sat down with Alan and Michael and we really all tried to work together to tailor everything specifically to who these characters are on our show and those guys did an amazing job with the songs and these guys did alright singing them. (Audience laughs)

Eddy: The idea was each episode has the tone of the character so a Snow/Charming episode is different than a Rumple. I think Alan and Michael really captured kind of the character, they were fans of the show, and then the tone & inspiration for each one.

David: Also it was about returning to a S1 feel for all of these characters, which speaks to how we were introduced to them and what the actors brought to those characters, kinda going to really the heart of when we met them and putting it into song.

Moderator: Awesome. So deep. (Audience laughs)

4. For Josh & Ginny, if you could be any other character besides the one you play currently on OUAT, who would it be?

Josh: I’ve always said Rumplestiltskin for sure. Just because Bobby, the actor, gets to play such a huge range. I just think that would be a whole lot of fun.

Ginny: I would be Henry because I wouldn’t have to wear a wig and that would be the closest I would ever get to playing Harry Potter. (Audience laughs)

5. What’s your Disney favorite ride or attraction?

Ginny: Haunted Mansion.

Josh: Pirates.

Eddy: Pirates! Haunted Mansion too, it’s close.

Josh: I also like Indiana Jones.

Adam: It’s a tie between Pirates and Star Tours. There’s like 94 possibilities.

(Someone said Space Mountain - can’t tell who. Maybe David.)

Eddy: The Buena Vista Commissary. There’s a salad bar like right down Dopey Ave. (Audience laughs)

6. Which characters were the most exciting to create a song for?

Josh: (clears throat loudly) Answer honestly!

Alan & Michael (note: I can’t tell which is which): I mean, Zelena was… Yeah.

Josh: Alright, nice to see you (note: I assume he gets up halfway as a joke)

A&M: We had to test you there.

Eddy: It’s hard to say who.. It’s like your favorite child.

Ginny: Us obviously. (Audience laughs)

Eddy: I think, for us, it was really just exciting to do as many as we could. You know, I think we weren’t sure how many songs we could take on, we weren’t sure we could do any of it and, you know, literally these guys wrote 7 original songs and they started meeting in December so… if you have a birthday or anniversary coming up, Alan & Michael~

Moderator: Anything to add, David?

David: Nope. (Audience laughs)

Hi Panda! I was just wondering if you think it was a plot hole when Zeno healed quickly in Sei after flying/falling to rescue yona? Since they were far away from Hiryuu, he's healing should have been slower like in Xing (fire), shouldn't it? Also, thank you for always sharing your translations :) I always love reading your thoughts on your blog!

So I got curious about this too and decided to draw a circle around Hiryuu palace bordering the area where the DWs lost all their strength near the Kai border:

We know the boy Yona&co. met in that Earth town near the border, Kalgan, was a resident of the Kai Empire, because he tells the gang his village is on the other side of the river in ch.95. If we place the limit to the DWs powers at that then this is roughly their safe area. It probably isn’t that big, as Kalgan says his family is by the river, but even if we reduce the area it would still include almost the entirety of Sei’s border with Kouka, and we know Kushibi’s fort was ~somewhere~ along it.

We know from 126 that the gang made it to Xing by following Sei’s border. Seeing as in the chapters before they stumble across Voldo they seem to be crossing a rather dangerous and mountainous area it’s safe to say the red arrow is probably roughly the direction they took. We also know the town they stayed at, San San, was close to the border, so they couldn’t have steered too far away from Kouka. It looks like they’d still be way within the range where they can move freely, so I don’t see why it would have to affect them at all in Xing, but seeing as San San doesn’t appear to be anywhere near the mountains it’s possible they travelled East, colliding with the boundaries of the Hiryuu Palace circle of influence.

It’s also interesting to bear in mind that Zeno was the only one who didn’t pass out during the altercation with the runaway Kai soldiers. Bearing in mind he’s been around for 2,000 years it’s possible he’s built up some immunity against the weakness the dragons feel when steering too far away from the palace.

I don’t think it’s a plot hole at all. Honestly, I’m more concerned about this:

How they even made it out alive from Shin-ah’s village is a complete mystery to me!! I mean, perhaps they went even further into the Kai Empire and the circle of influence is bigger than this, but still, the Seiryuu village is way out there to the Northeast…

Mind you, depending on the map it seems closer, so perhaps Kusanagi just isn’t good with maps? Either way, it would be right at the border…

Summary: You and Kili get bored, so make a bet on who can get Fili to laugh first.  The fact that he is in a meeting with all of Thorin’s advisers doesn’t make a lick of difference.

And at first, you were ecstatic, because that meant you got the whole day to spend with your betrothed, you both could cuddle up in your bed or go for a ride and picnic…but that wasn’t the case since Fili was stuck in meetings all day with Thorin. You knew Fili had duties he had to take care of since he was crown prince, but at the same time, did you really have to check your schedule to get a good cuddle from your soon-to-be husband?!

You let out a sigh as you let the book plop down in your lap, you rolled your head back to look up at the ceiling, letting out a surprised shriek when you saw a smug face looking down at you.

After Derek left Beacon Hills and the pack behind, he kept in touch with Stiles. For updates, naturally.

When Stiles moves to Washington DC to start his pre-FBI program, Derek offers his help to help him move when no one else has time.

Mate For Life by xxjinchuurikixx (1/1 | 15,736 | NC17)

Stiles continues to tend for Derek through his rut.
Derek has something Stiles has to give to him. Stiles has blunt teeth.
Derek can picture those long, nimble fingers tracing over the triskele between his shoulder blades, following the swirls down to the center before he feels Stiles’ breath warm on his skin.
“You have no idea… how good this feels,” Derek sighs.

Part 2 of Our Fevered Souls

Roscoe for the Rescue, Not by Keitmeg (1/? | 6,379 | R)

“Fine, I’m getting off your property.” He lifts up and his knee cracks, “I’ll walk back, no need to worry about me walking back by myself, in the woods, in the middle of the night with possible mountain lions lurking by.”

Stiles stumbles upon a pack of Werewolves lead by Derek Hale who looks entirely human. His relationship with every one of them grows deeper because he’s still unaware of who they truly are. Stiles’ past, pains and emotions are revealed slowly throughout the story, along with how his relationship with Derek Hale becomes something more than he can understand or explain.

Learn to Control Yourself, Stiles. by Thesupermom19 (10/? | 48,831 | NR)

This is 3-month post Nogitsune Stiles, there are major changes and it doesn’t follow the show, such as: Alpha Derek, Allison is alive, Isaac didn’t leave, Jackson never left, Malia never existed simply because its Sterek. This is a story that involves Stiles as a supernatural creature (not going to say which kind), The beginning of the 3rd season never really happened for the most part, instead I have come up with all these different pack building experiences between the group of teens that are set to have taken place in that time and will be told in flashbacks. Like I said, not all events from the show have happened obviously. The pack is a lot closer in my story than the show. Scott never became alpha, they just all joined into Derek’s pack. Again, I used that as time to fill in fun pack memories and stuff. So, this is definitely not canon. Hopefully you all enjoy the changes!
It sets after Derek left the pack temporarily for unknown reasons and Stiles is dealing with a form of PTSD alone, or so he thinks. It is a budding relationship story between Stiles and Derek.

Derek’s type is a self-confident, blonde girl. Her grin is almost dangerous, her laugh’s loud, and she may seem arrogant – but if anyone has a reason to be arrogant, it’s her.
Stiles’ type is a genius, strawberry blonde girl. She looks perfect no matter the time of a day, her taste’s impeccable, she’s popular as well as respected – but taken.
They turn to each other, struggling with the choices and people around them.

I may be wrong but I really don't think Jon x Dany will die. GRRM is adamant the ending is LOTR bittersweet which was more sweet then bitter, he says I think you need to have some hope…we all yearn for happy endings in a sense. Myself, I’m attracted to the bittersweet ending. People ask me how Game of Thrones is gonna end, and I’m not gonna tell them … but I always say to expect something bittersweet in the end,” he said. “You can’t just fulfill a quest and then pretend life is perfect.” 1/2

2/2 I think the ending will have most of the remaining characters alive with the exception of cersei, Jaime, the mountain and possible Theon. I think the bitter will come, as many have said, in the effects on the crew. They’ll see and do terrible things in the Great War, they’ll loose people be forever changed most likely separated after. They will have to live in the aftermath which won’t be pretty, they have to hang people’s hearts and minds and restore hope to the seven kingdoms

I agree with you! LotR has an ending where the principle characters survive, including the central couple–Arwen and Aragorn. Aragorn reclaims his family’s throne in Gondor, his birthright which had been occupied by Denethor–a steward who was mad and undeserving.

In the end I think that what made the ending bittersweet was the loss of innocence of the hobbit characters, especially Frodo who never truly recovered from the wound the Witch-king gave him with the Morgul blade, and who left to go to the Grey Havens instead of staying among his people.

I could see similar things happening in GoT’s ending.

Jon and Dany could redeem their family’s name and stay together, even having children as Arwen and Aragorn did. But I suspect that dragons will all be dead, and King’s Landing will be destroyed. It’s likely (at least in my opinion) that they won’t rule the 7k. Neither of them.

What I think will happen is that each kingdom will rule itself by a person who has proven themselves in the war. Sansa will rule the North, for example. Yara will rule the Iron Islands.

Like Frodo, Jon will always bear the scars he got from his brothers’ betrayal and he and Dany will always be haunted by the people and things they’ve lost. Like Frodo, I think Arya may leave to explore whatever lies west of Westeros.

This would allow our principle characters to live but it isn’t a “Disney” ending and there is still the bitterness of everything they’ve lost, the departure of magic from the world, the physical and emotional scars of the war, etc.

You fiddled with your pocket knife, flicking it open, then shutting it. Flick. Shut. Flick. Shut. Flick. Shut. Flick. Shut. “Do you mind?” You looked over at Tony. “Sorry…” You then began turning the knife around in your hand, watching as Tony looked over the computer.

You bit the inside of your cheek as Tony screwed the bolts back onto the laptop. “Yeah, you broke it.” You groaned loudly. “No!” Tony nodded his head. “Afraid so.” You slumped into the seat. “Bucky is going to kill me!” Tony slid the computer back over to you. “Sorry, kid. Nothing more I can do for you.”

“What if I went and bought a new one. Could you transfer the drive thingy over?” Tony shook his head. “No. I can’t transfer the hard drive over. You spilled mountain dew all in it. It’s ruined.” You slipped from the chair and slid to the floor. “It was nice knowing you, Tony. I always liked you. Say nice things about me at my funeral.”

Tony stood over you. “Let Steve know you’re going to die. He’ll be upset if he doesn’t get a goodbye.”

You held Bucky’s laptop in your hand as you walked your way to his room. Every time you said goodbye to someone they would look at you confusedly. But none the less, hug you back.

You stood outside of Bucky’s door and knocked. *Knock, knock-knock-knock, knock-knock.* “Come in!” You slowly opened the door and stepped into Bucky’s dark bedroom.

“We’re you sleeping? I can come back another time.” Bucky sat up, running his metal hand through his hair.  “No. I was just laying awake. You’re fine.”

Bucky reaches over and flicked his bedside lamp on. “You here to bring my laptop back?” You nodded your head. “You get your homework done?” You nodded your head.

You did get your homework done, you just thought since you had his laptop overnight you could watch some Netflix, drink some mountain dew and chill for the rest of the night. Which is exactly what he told you not to do with his laptop. “Homework. That’s it. Got it! You have to get a new one because of all of your tomfooleries you did with your old one.

“What are you doing all the way over there? Come here.” Bucky said, patting the space next to him. You just leaned against the closed door.

“What’s going on?” You bit your lip. “I have to tell you something.” Bucky titled his head. “What?” You took a deep breath. “You have to promise not to get mad.” Bucky raised a brow, waiting. “I might have, possibly, could have spilled mountain dew all over your computer and broke it. I’m so sorry please don’t kill me.”

Bucky just stared at you for a long moment. “Was while you were doing your homework?” You shook your head. “Were you watching Netflix?” You nodded your head. Bucky slowly got up and walked over to you. If you could’ve pressed yourself any further into the door, you would’ve.

Bucky grabbed his laptop from your hand and opened it. He pressed the button. The stupid thing powered up. Bucky looked over at you, raising his eyebrows. You stared at the loading screen, shocked. How was it booting up? You looked up at Bucky with a sheepish smile. “Just kidding?”

Bucky shook his head, closed the top and tossed it on his bed. Placing his hands on either side of your head, he leaned forward. “So did you or did you not spill soda on my computer?” You gulped.

“I did. But Tony told me he couldn’t fix it or put your drive thingy into a new one! I don’t know why it’s working now!” Bucky smiled. “I had Tony back my stuff up on a new computer.” You looked at him dumbfounded. “W-What?”

“I knew the chances of you dropping it or spilling something on it were high, so I asked him to make a backup computer. Hopefully, this taught you to be more careful with other people’s stuff.”

You just stared at him and crossed your arms. “SO both of you knew and let me think I was going to die at the hands of boyfriend all to teach me a lesson?!” Bucky nodded his head.

“Yes.” You shoved Bucky, well tried to shove Bucky away from you. “Will you move!? I want to leave!” You said, placing your hands on his chest and shoving, kinda, again. Bucky smirked at you.

“You’re mad at me? I should be the one mad at you! You ruin my perfectly good computer!” You folded your arms again and looked away from him. “What am I getting the silent treatment now?”

You refused to look at him. Bucky leaned further in. “Come on. Don’t be mad at me. I’m not mad at you.” He nuzzled his nose against your jaw. You still didn’t budge. Light kisses were feathered up your face. Still nothing.

Bucky gently gripped your chin in his mental hand, turning your face towards him. You closed your eyes and refused to look at him. “Come on, Doll…” He peppered your face in kisses.

His other hand moved to your hip, pulled your flush against him. “Doll, you can’t be mad at me for teaching you a lesson….It just isn’t right.” You scoffed. He kissed your neck, his metal hand moved down to your hip, tightening just enough to make you yelp.

Suddenly the door jumped behind you, Bucky instantly leaned away from the door and you. “Lady, Y/N! Your new device is here!” You smiled and threw open the door, nearly hitting Bucky in the face. Thor was standing there, holding a large brown box. You took it from him and squealed.

You were laying on Bucky’s bed while you finished setting your new computer up. Bucky was sitting next to you, still trying to get your attention. “You’re really not going to talk to me? You do realize that I should be the one doing this?”

You connected your laptop to the wifi and smiled hugely, ignoring his words. Bucky leaned back and grabbed your hips, pulling you up and into his lap. You squirmed around, arms reaching for your laptop.

“Stop moving and look at me.” He grabbed your chin and made you look at him. “I’m sorry. Is that what you wanted to hear?” You smiled. “Yes, it is.” Bucky leaned forward and kissed you. “I am sorry too. I didn’t mean to spill soda on it.” You said, frowning.

“I got you something for that.” Bucky leaned down and opened his nightstand drawer. He handed you a small gift bag. You looked at him questionably. “Go on. Open it.” You opened that bag and laughed. “A cup with a top?” Bucky nodded his head. “It said it won’t spill. So you can drink your mountain dew and watch Netflix.”

You kissed him. “Thanks.” He kept his arms wrapped around your waist as you set the gift aside and grabbed your computer. You snuggled into his chest and typed in Netflix. “What do you want to watch?”

The Case of the Missing Gem Location

[Not spoilers for the show, but possible spoilers for the Art Book ahead]

What is this?

It can’t be the Lunar Sea Spire:

It also can’t be the Communications Hub:

It is currently the only diagram from It Could’ve Been Great that hasn’t been seen in the show, or even hinted at.

So where is it?

From what we can tell, it is surrounded by mountains, possibly placing it in a valley somewhere.

This diagram shows us all the structures that were “originally built on Earth” by Homeworld.

Some of these locations have been semi-officially confirmed (sort of) by the art book:

Ignoring some oddities due to this likely being concept art rather than a finalized, 100% canon map (like the spot where Ocean Gem took place being marked on the Moon Base computer for some reason), it does narrow us down to a location: South America (or Pangea as it’s apparently called in SU).

You see, every location on the show, regardless of whether or not it’s position makes sense, is marked on this map, and the dots on this map all match up with dots of the Moon Base map (regardless of whether or not it makes sense, again).

The only one NOT on the art book map is the dot in South America. Now, you may think that’s Centipeetle’s ship, but that’s much north, as shown in Friend Ship:

And, going by both the Art Book and the Moon Base Map, the South America Dot is located right between two mountain ranges (they’re far apart, yes, but the other diagrams simplified and squished down their respective locations)

So what is it?

Since it’s relatively close to Centi’s ship, my guess is that it’s some sort of landing complex for incoming and outgoing ships, with the spire being essentially like an air traffic control tower and the two diamond-shaped things next to it being landing beacons.

Or maybe I’m dead wrong lol
