“Poseidon was one of the Twelve Olympians in ancient Greek religion and myth. He was god of the Sea and other waters; of earthquakes; and of horses. In pre-Olympian Bronze Age Greece, he was venerated as a chief deity at Pylos and Thebes. Poseidon was protector of seafarers, and of many Hellenic cities and colonies.”

“[Carina] is an astronomer, and she is an academic. She’s fighting for the right to study at university, because women couldn’t at that time. So she’s on her own journey - looking for the trident of Poseidon - and she has a diary with clues, and she encounters Jack Sparrow along the way, and he messes everything up. As he does. And it’s fun!”
In Greek art, Poseidon rides a chariot that was pulled by a hippocampus or by horses that could ride on the sea. He was associated with dolphins and three-pronged fish spears (tridents). In his benign aspect, Poseidon was seen as creating new islands and offering calm seas. When offended or ignored, he supposedly struck the ground with his trident and caused chaotic springs, earthquakes, drownings and shipwrecks.
Poseidon, Greek god of the sea, was one of the most powerful of all of the gods in Greek mythology. He was one of the 12 Olympian gods and goddesses who held court on Mount Olympus - the mountain of the gods. Poseidon is the son of Cronos and Rhea, and brother to Zeus, Hades, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera. He, Zeus, and Hades divided the world into three ‘territories’; Zeus ruled over the Heavens, Hades ruled over the Underworld, and Poseidon ruled over the seas. Poseidon is often associated with bulls and horses.

[The Battle of Manhattan has been underway for two days. Sally and Paul are running through the city, trying to find Percy, when they suddenly find themselves ambushed by Telkhines. The Telkhines begin to advance when the air suddenly fills with the scent of salt and Poseidon appears. Slamming his trident against the ground, the telkhines melt into seawater.]
Poseidon (turning to Sally and a faintly stunned Paul): Percy’s at the Empire State Building. I’d take you there myself, but I’m afraid I have a monster to kill-
Sally (striding towards him): Wait.
Sally: I have raised your son for sixteen years, and in that time, I have never once asked you for anything. I’m asking now. If we’re all still alive tomorrow morning, I want you to promise me that you will never do this to him again. I want you to promise me that there will be no more prophecies, that there will be no more Chosen Ones, that from now on, Percy Jackson will get to have as close to a normal life as a demigod can possibly have. You owe me that. More importantly you owe him that.
Poseidon (hesitating): Sally…
Sally (narrowing her eyes): Promise me.
Poseidon (hesitating for a moment longer before giving a short nod): …okay.
